Since U Been Gone

It's been five weeks since dream couple Alex and Maggie (dubbed Sanvers by the SuperFriends) broke up. On the outside, Alex looks like she's amazing; like, yeah, I broke up with my fiancée and it hurts but I'm fine.

That's not what it's like on the inside.

On the inside she is doubting whether or not she made the right decision. Was kids really worth giving up all she had with Maggie? Maggie was her Lois to Clark. Maggie was the shiny stars. Maggie was Alex's world (after Kara of course). However, she knew that deep down if she had stayed with Maggie and given up her dreams of being a mom, then somewhere along the road she would have hated her; she would rather this than hate her. Anyway.

"Alex, it's game night!" protested Kara (in her Supergirl suit so she had to be a little quiet when talking about her afternoon plans) in the conference room of the DEO base. "You can't skip out," Alex couldn't look at her sister when she replied.

"I know, and I'm sorry Kara, but I'm really wiped. I just want to go home and get some sleep," Alex replied. She then turned her computer off and walked away from the Kryptipnian.

"Liar," mumbled Kara in sadness. She heard Alex's heart speed up and she had been smelling whiskey on her sister all week. On Sunday when she popped round to her apartment the smell was so strong on her enhanced nose she almost puked. Sighing, Kara walked away feeling dejected.

She had to help her sister.

She couldn't let her break down again.

Not like last time.

-THIS IS KRYPTO THE LINE DOG-

Alex unlocked her apartment and threw her coat on the table. She then unholstered her gun and dropped it on top. As Alex turned, she saw a T-shirt on the floor. It was almost under her bed to it wasn't usual she hadn't seen it before. It was the same T-shirt Maggie wore the first night she slept over. Alex woke up to her making breakfast.

"It's called happiness Danvers, get used to it," Maggie had said with her dimpled grin. Alex had gotten used to it. She loved the happiness…. She loved loves Maggie; and nothing is going to change that.

Alex held back a tear as she grabbed a bottle of bourbon from her cupboard and poured a full glass of it. Not like the centermeters people usual pour in them cups. She filled it up to just over the halfway point.

And then she drank it in one without taking a breath; impressive huh? Nope. This had been the theme for days.

Alex then lost herself in the drinks again.

This time there was no J'onn to help her.

There was no coming back from boken.

Her second chance had already happened and people don't really get third chances. She was lucky to get a second chance and that was because of her dad. She took a swig from the bottle. Her dad. Wow, Alex mused, my life is a frickin film.

Alien sister.

Secretive Mom.

Works for a secret government agency.

Dad went missing and returned as a DOUBLE AGENT.

Destructive tendencies.

Horrible life choices from 17-23.

Her boss is a freaking Alien himself.

Alex rubbed her face and brought her hand threw her hair as she finished the bottle.

(F) Kara

-Alex I know you aren't asleep

-I can hear your heartbeat

-and I can see u

Alex made a show at the door of opening a can of laga and taking a gulp.

(F) Kara

-Alex please don't do this. I know you're hurting and I know you miss her but don't throw your life away over this. I'm sure that you'll find somebody else that will love you and want the same things as you.

-Please Alex, let me in!

Alex rolled her eyes and stumbled slightly over to the door where Kara was. Kara came barroling in and hugged her. Alex pushed her away.

"What do you want Kara?" Alex asked coldly as she took another sip. Kara clenched her jaw and took the van before drinking it all in one go— she winced at the bitter taste and wondered how humans drank it. "Hey. Bitch," Alex mumbled.

Kara made her sit down. "Alex. Look at me and talk to me," Kara pleaded. Alex looked in her sisters eyes. "I'll call Eliza," she threatened.

Alex let out a breathy chuckle and closed her eyes. She let the breeze from her open window ("Alex! You're as bad as Kara. She leaves her door unlocked and you leave your windows wide open!" Maggie berated one night. "Maggie, we are three floors up. Nobody is breaking into my apartment," laughed Alex. "That's what's everyone says," Maggie retorted. "I am not everyone Maggie Sawyer," Alex said as she gently pressed her lips to Maggie's. Maggie stared in Alex's eyes and muttered under breath, "You Danvers girls are gonna be the death of me,") engulf her and she promptly got that memory put of her head.

"Alex, let me help you. Please. You're always looking out for me so let me do it for you," Kara said, she moved closer and grabbed her sisters hands. Alex pulled them out of Kara's reach and stood up.

"You can't help Kara. Unless you can go back in time ("Kal actually did that once," Kara mumbled under her breath) and stop me from breaking up with her; which you can't," Alex yelled. "This isn't something you can punch, Kara. You can't blow my feelings for Maggie away. You can't freeze them and you sure as hell can't incinerate them or fly them away. These are human feelings that are resolved anyway we can," Alez went to find more drinks.

Kara frowned. "What's that meant to mean Alex?" she asked perplexed.

"What I mean is that you wouldn't understand how I feel, Kara. You wouldn't. I am a human and I can't fly to get rid of my problems. If I did that then I wouldn't be alive anymore. If I did that then I would be a disappointment to Mom and I would leave you! So, yeah, I drown myself in alcohol. Yeah I shut everyone out. But I can't get rid of my feelings like a fricking Vampire. Okay. Not like you," she snapped. Kara didn't know what to say.

"I don't get rid of my feelings when I get this sad Alex," Kara said.

"Yes, yes you do. When Mon-El died you shut everyone out and you stopped being Kara Danvers. You were Kara Zor-El, Supergirl. You said to me that if Maggie went then I would be in the bar; drunk. You were right. I said you were. You just go all Alien on us," Alex responded as she drank some more.

"You don't mean that. I am as human as anyone when it comes to my emotions. You know this," Kara said. "I know you don't mean it because when you are hurt or drunk or both you lash out. And that's what you're doing now," Alex scoffed.

"Are you adding 'shrink' to your CV? I wouldn't if I were you, you'll just advise your clients to fill the atmosphere with whatever their partner is allergic too," Alex laughed but it sounded hollow. Kara stared at Alex, she tried to keep the tears at bay but this wasn't her Alex. This wasn't her sister. "Nothing to say Kara? Why don't you leave?" Kara stood her ground and walked over to each other

"Because, like Bill Withers sang," Kara said, "Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow, but, if we are wise., we know that there's always tomorrow, lean on me, when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on... For it won't be long, till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on, please swallow your pride, if I have things you need to borrow, for no one can fill, those of your needs that you won't let show, you just call on me brother sister

"That's not the-" interrupted Alex, she was trying to ward of a huge smile that was coming. She felt so stupid for whats he said to Kara and made a note to do something for her tomorrow— if she remembered.

"I know," Kara interjected with a soft smile. She walked close and gently pulled Alex into a Kryptonian Cuddle, "when you need a hand, we all need somebody to lean on," she finished the song on a gentle note.

"That was cute," Alex said as she tried not to break down. Kara heard the slight waver in her voice and held on, she pressed a sisterly kiss on Alex's forehead and continued to hug her distraughted sister. "I can't do this Kar," she cried.

"Shh. Yes you can because you are amazing. And I will always be there for you," Kara comforted. "We all will,"

Alex then broke down. She started to sob and cling to her sister so Kara brought them to the floor and Alex cried for all she could have had. She cried for her failed relationship. She cried for the third chance that has been handed her.

She cried for Maggie.

For her dad.

Kara took it all. She took all her harsh words and her destructive behavior and she took it all with a smile and a song. "I love you Kara. So much," sobbed Alex.

"I love you too Lexie," Kara said, using a nickname she hasn't used in years. Alex soon passed out from exhaustion and emotional feelings, you know what I mean.

-THIS IS KRYPTO AGAIN-

Over in Gotham, Maggie wasn't doing any better. Worst part was that she didn't have any friends. She wasn't friends with the resident vigilante in this city.

She was just Maggie.

Detective Maggie Sawyer. Not Detective Maggie Sawyer-Danvers… or whatever way round she would have had it.

All because I was too scared of hurting a hyperthetical child like my parents did me, she thought bitterly in the bar. She downed the shot of bourbon and ordered another. She didn't have work for the next two days. Mines well make the most of it.
