I want to apologize for the 4 month wait. The rumors of where season 14 was headed made it hard for me to write. I am in no way over the shocking decision but I will continue with this story to keep their love alive.

Amy was flipping through a wedding magazine she picked up in the grocery store line. She felt overwhelmed by all the choices. She originally let Lisa make most of the decisions when she was engaged to Caleb. Heck, even he had picked a fall wedding. Now that she thought about it she really didn't decide anything other then saying yes. Which even back then she knew in the back of her mind was a mistake. Her heart had always belonged to Ty. Even when he wasn't in the picture anymore. He had ruined her for other guys. She sighed as she put the magazine back as the line moved closer to finally getting to check out. Everyone had been so busy lately, summer always was busy around the ranch. So she got stuck doing the grocery run. Not that she minded. It was more the waiting and time it took to do it. "Amy?" She heard behind her and turned toward the voice. She quickly stuffed her hands into her pockets as Caleb came closer. "What are you doing here?"
"Shopping, like everyone else." She answered pointing to her cart but then regretted it.
Caleb looked between her cart and the magazine half falling out of the rack. He cracked a sideways smile. "I just got back from the cirit. Be in town for a few days if you want to get together." He said.
"Um, yeah. Sure, maybe. I have a few client horses I'm working with. And the cattle drive is coming up. So..." She trailed off.
"Sure." Caleb nodded.
Amy turned around at the sound of the cashier. She started putting the food on the belt and reached for her wallet. She closed her eyes tightly just for a second as she remembered her ring now on full display. "Here you go." She said as she handed the money to the cashier never daring to look back over her shoulder at Caleb. She took her change and quickly grabbed the two bags.
"Amy?" She heard Caleb and stopped forcing herself to turn around. "Congratulations." There was a touch of sadness in his voice as he smiled.
Amy forced a smile self consciously touching the ring. "I didn't want you to find out this way."
"I always knew there'd be someone else. You and me just weren't meant to be. It's okay."
"Thank you, really." She turned to step away but glanced back as he was putting his food out. "What I had with you was special. Don't ever forget that." She smiled this time for real.
Caleb's smile grew as well. "I would love to grab, we can talk. Catch up. Ty too." He said as Amy nodded before leaving the store.

As if the day was just out to get her she stopped her dad across the street. He jumped out of his truck and was talking with another rancher. She glanced around quickly before she darted quickly to Jack's truck parked just down the street hoping to avoid him. As she was trying to sneak to the passenger side of Jack's truck undetected she slammed into someone. The one bag falling from her hands. Lisa was staring at her. "Honey, you gotta watch where your walking." She laughed it off adjusting her purse then picking up the bag of groceries.
"Sorry, Lisa. It's just been a day." She faked a smile which Lisa noticed.
"I'm sorry honey. Anything you want to talk about?"
"I'd love to but my dad is over there and I'd like to go unseen if I can." She pointed his direction with her head.
"I totally understand." She said. Placing a hand on her shoulder she led her away from the truck. "Why don't we take my car back to Fairfield. We can grab a coffee there and talk."
Amy nodded cracking a smile. The pair walked down the sidewalk and away from Tim toward Lisa's car.

Lisa sat a steaming cup of coffee on the desk in front of Amy. Lisa said across from her on the counter of the desk. "So what's up sweetheart?" She asked kindly in only the way she did. It always made Amy smile. She was so happy her grandfather had found someone to be with. To love and share his day with. That's the way Amy felt about Ty. In fact she thinks there might have been a connection from the moment she met him but denied it not wanting to upset her already broken heart.
Amy looked up at Lisa warming her hands on the coffee cup. "I don't know where to start." She sighed.
"Okay, let's start with your dad. Why were you avoiding him?"
"I just can't seem to bring myself to tell him Ty proposed. I keep having these moments of panic. Like he's going to treat me like he did Lou." Amy's eyes were red with unshed tears.
"Honey, you know that's not true. He learnt his lesson with your sister. And I know he likes Ty in his own way. Sure he's going to be shocked but he knows you're dating and you're not rushing down the aisle." Lisa smiled warmly at her.
Amy nodded hugging her coffee cup for dear life. "I ran into Caleb at the store. He saw the ring."
"Oh?" Was all Lisa could say unsure of her granddaughter's feelings toward that situation.
"I don't think I'm handling this very well." She sighed.
"There is no right or wrong way. You have a past. Just like everybody else. Caleb is your friend. You have both worked through you picking Ty over him. I'm sure he was surprised to learn of the engagement but deep down I bet he knew it was a possibility." She patted her knee.
"You can't tell Ty that I am having second thoughts." She blurted out ashamed.
"It's not second thoughts if you love him."
"I do. Of course I do."
"Then don't be afraid to feel that way." Lisa said proudly. "You are allowed to be happy."

After Lisa had dropped Amy back off uptown to grab the truck the two followed each other back to the ranch. Amy had felt a little better about things but couldn't shake the feeling she was somehow betraying Ty by not being excited to share their news. As soon as she pulled the truck up to the house she hopped out and took off toward the barn. Jack met Lisa to help her with the bags she was juggling. "Why is she in such a hurry?"
"Young love." Lisa handed him a bag.
Jack smiled. "I knew those two would end up together.
"You did not. Don't go taking credit." She poked at him. "She was avoiding Tim."
"Oh boy!" He huffed. "What did he do now?"
"Nothing yet." Jack shook his head as they climbed the stairs.

Amy darted into the barn and collided with Ty who's school books hit the floor on impact. "Where you off to in a hurry?" He laughed bending down to grab them. When he stood back up he caught Amy's expression. "What's going on?"
"You were in Calgary?" She pointed to his books.
"Yeah, look I was going to talk to you about my decision but I had to jump on it." He shifted the books in his arms.
"Right, no. I get it. Uh...so you decided on becoming a mechanic?" She peered at the book showing.
"I did. Jack kinda got in my head about having a degree or trade or something. And I figured why not. Plus if I might get more hours with Gus at the garage if I have it." He smiled. "Back to what you were running about?" He said touching Amy's forearm.
"Oh, yeah. Well, I just..." She trailed off avoiding eye contact. She had been so set on telling him everything but now she was having trouble. Not wanting to break his happiness. "Lisa said it's supper. I was just excited to see you." She partly lied.
"Well, I'm happy to see you too. But you better be more careful next time." He chuckled. "I'll meet you at the house once I put these away."
"Okay." She said, forcing a smile. She turned around and started back toward the house. "Ty?" She said turning around.
"Yeah?"
"I ran into Caleb." She bit her bottom lip.
"Okay?" Ty wasn't sure he was understanding where it was going.
Amy hesitated losing any bit of confidence she had ten seconds ago. Ty stepped closer, the books no longer in his hands. "I...he..." She felt flushed, almost embarrassed.
Ty folded his arms starting to get her hesitation. His mind feeling the dread and seeing the slight glimmer of guilt on her face. "Just tell me." It came out a little harsher then he intended. His face softened and he stepped closer to her to grab her hand. Offering a bit of reassurance and understanding.
"I tried hiding the ring but he seen it. Then I almost ran into my dad and he is coming for dinner. But he doesn't know yet." She rambled off so quickly it took Ty a second to process and respond.
"So, Caleb knows? But not your dad." Amy nodded. "So...you don't want me to mention it at dinner?" He was trying to understand.
"I'm happy. I am. I can't wait to marry you. But today I just froze."
Ty took her in his arms. "I get it. Your dad can be a bit extreme."
"It wasn't just him." Amy said pushing herself out of Ty's grib feeling as if she didn't deserve it. "I didn't want Caleb to know. And I'm not entirely sure why. I'm just..." She trailed off holding herself tightly with her arms.
Ty took a minute to think over his response. "So the only people you've bragged to is Jack, Lisa and now Caleb?" He asked.
Amy nodded. "We agreed not to tell Lou until we see her next month."
"True, but...I just thought you'd have told someone else. I get Caleb is your ex but your friends. You didn't even tell Ashley or Mallory?" Amy shook her head. "Look I won't tell your dad. In fact I won't mention it to anyone." Ty said, fighting his disappointment. Biting his tongue on asking if she was ashamed of him or their relationship. She loved him, she did. He knew that. But it was hard they didn't appear to share the same joy.
