AN: Thanks once again for everyones reviews! So pleased you are all (well most of you) enjoying it! I know some have said they don't feel H&E would divorce but this is fanfiction and anything goes, there are many of fic's that I do not believe would happen however I can appreciate the effort put into the story for the writer to create that from their own imagination.
Also to the guest reviewer who feels the time jumps are getting confusing, I do apologise, I am trying to be as detailed with them as I can and I am updating far more frequently so that you can get the image better, there is not many time jumps coming up now, it's more a case of going through things chronologically. However, as you reviewed on guest I cannot message you to discuss the following; If you feel this is 'Drawn out' and 'Boring' and do not feel Henry would go to such lengths all because of Dimitri then I have three suggestions; One, come off guest so we can discuss like adults Two; Perhaps appreciate the length and detail of the fic, continue reading it and don't view it as 'boring' and maybe you'll see that there becomes far more than 'Just Dimitri' (which was a huge act of betrayal and ignited a discussion of divorce in the show) or Three; Stop reading. Any option is fine by me.
To all my readers please keep reading/reviewing it inspires me so much, my inbox is always open for any discussion (here or twitter). And to those of my readers who write - Keep writing! I see so many negative comments and there is no need for it so if you have received one then please ignore it. You're doing something you love snd it's fan FICTION! anything goes. If it were meant to be true they'd call it fanFACT.
Happy Reading!
Thanks. Enjoy :)
Chapter Twenty Four - Confessions Part III
A few days had passed and before Elizabeth knew it she was sitting in the back of her motorcade trying to muster up the energy to walk into the hospital for her routine check up. In some ways it had felt like just a few seconds ago she was sitting in Dr Sherman's office telling her about the appointment 'at the end of the week' and now she was here, however; in so many other ways the remainder of the week had felt like an eternity. The anguish among the family home consumed her like a thick smog and she was sure she wouldn't make It to the end of the week at some points. She inhaled sharply and swallowed hard, upon her slow exhale she pulled the door handle towards her and opened the door, stepping out of the vehicle. She took a quick glance around, smiling softly to her DS agents before walking into the building before her.
Elizabeth anxiously sat waiting to be called, her leg bounced up and down as the nerves within her attempted to find some way of escape. She fiddled with her fingers in her lap muttering nothing to herself in an attempt to pass the time. The sound of a door opening in the distance made her lift her head, praying silently it was her doctor, but it wasn't.
'Henry?' She quizzed
'You didn't think I'd let you do this alone did you?' He offered a soft open reply, she smiled genuinely, it was the first time he had spoken to her calmly in days. Her eyes flickered as she watched him take a seat next to her. A silence fell between them, many words desperate to be exchanged, but held back by fear. She returned her gaze to her lap and continued to bounce her legs, she pushed her teeth together hard and attempted to hold her breath for a few seconds, her mind in overdrive.
'It's ok' he soothed, instinctively placing a loving hand upon her knee, slowly caressing her skin and watching as her shoulders dropped and her legs slowed down, eventually coming to a stop. 'You're not alone in any of this Elizabeth, no matter what, I will always show up for you' his loving words tumbled down to her ears. She bit her lip and held back her tears as she looked up at him. Words evaded her, she battled within herself to lean upon him, her heart desperate to cuddle into his side, but her head giving her every reason not to. Her lips parted to speakā¦
'Elizabeth McCord' the doctor called, she flicked her head and stood up nodding firmly, she glanced back and watched as Henry remained sat down, she cleared her through and smiled at him
'You coming?' It was a simple combination of words, but one that held a gesture so meaningful. Henry rose to his feet and placed his hand on the small of her back, following her into the appointment.
'Please take a seat' the doctor gestured and waited for them both to sit before addressing them. 'So, Elizabeth I have good news'
'Oh thank god' she let out a hurried breath causing both Henry and the doctor to chuckle
'I have just reviewed your recent tests and they're all positive, your wounds have healed very well, I am particularly impressed with the fracture within your hip, it's fully healed which is very positive. Are you in pain with it at all?' He asked
'No, no-' she paused. '- Well, sometimes If I lay on my right side at night it hurts, and I feel quite achy in the morning, but I've been sleeping on my left to try and resolve that, which is ok' She explained. At first Henry was shocked she was opening up, but then he realised it was more of an explanation to him, a reason as to why she constantly slept with her back to him of late, suddenly things were making a little more sense to him.
'It's not surprising the majority of your injuries were to the right of your body, but I would hope in time the aches relieve themselves. Now, the wound on your thigh, when was the last time it was looked at?' He asked, Elizabeth attempted to recall a time, knowing that it hadn't been checked by anyone other than herself in weeks.
'Few days I think' she lied and the doctor nodded.
'May I see it?' She nodded hesitantly and slowly stood up. She began to unbutton her trousers and the reality hit her that Henry was in the room, a wave of anxiety spread through her, unsure of what to do she looked over to him for guidance, or was it to check he wasn't looking? She wasn't so sure of herself anymore, all she knew was that she didn't know what to do, she didn't have the confidence to undress in front of her husband anymore. Her anxiety was quickly replaced with sadness, how did it all come to this.
Henry noticed her glance and averted his gaze, he began reading the book titles upon the shelf and pushed himself to focus on anything other than his broken wife. He swallowed hard and kept his composure whilst silently kicking himself for breaking her.
The doctor had a look at her thigh and after a few minutes gestured for her to get dressed again, she quickly buttoned herself up and rushed into her seat, somehow feeling less vulnerable there. Henry cleared his throat and returned his gaze back to the doctor.
'So Elizabeth, that wound needs tending too, it still hasn't healed well. Now I know you had an extensive operation so it will take longer than the rest but I think you need to increase your wound care routine. I am going to prescribe you some stronger ointment for It, can you make sure you rub it in thoroughly twice a day, morning and night, and then I would like you to cover it fully. I'll give you some dressings. If you struggle it may be worth asking Dr McCord if he can help, especially with the dressings, it needs to be secure to promote healing.' He explained and they both silently nodded.
Now, how is your memory?I've had good reports from Dr Sherman, and the tests you have completed show things are very well. But how do you feel?'
'Good, I think. I am confident that most of the events which I had forgotten have been restored, I certainly feel the emotions of them' she chuckled and awkwardly glanced at Henry.
'Dr McCord, what's your opinion?' He asked
\Well, I can't vouch for her work, but within her personal life I'd have to agree, I don't think there is anything she isn't aware of, I think she has done extremely well' he beamed proudly and nodded firmly in her direction.
'Very well, I will arrange an appointment for you in a few more weeks Elizabeth to check on your thigh wound, but other than that I am very happy with the progress you have made, if you have any concerns please do contact me and let me know.' He smiled and she nodded 'Do you have any questions?' He asked, she hesitated and attempted to be discreet about her question given she wasn't alone in the room.
'I've nearly ran out of my previous prescription, could I have some more?' She bit her lip nervously, Henry's ears picked up as he hadn't realised she was on any routine medication he looked across to the doctor who was typing on his computer, pulling up her records.
'Do you mean the anti anxiety medication we gave you a while back?' He asked and she almost choked on the air within the room.
"Y..Yes' she admitted shyly
'Of course, I will add it to the prescription, does Dr Sherman know that you're struggling with your anxiety?'
Henry looked over to her desperately wanting answers from her.
'I have told her, but she is very good at what she does so I am sure she is aware' she attempted to brush It off but neither of the men in the room were having it.
'I'll drop an email to Dr Sherman' the doctor explained and Elizabeth stood up, rolling her eyes like a child. She took the prescriptions from the doctor and thanked him, before swiftly exiting the room, Henry hot on her heels.
As she reached the motorcade she almost threw herself inside, her body yearning for privacy. She rested her head back and squeezed her eyes shut trying to ignore the harsh stares of her husband who had decided to join her. She raised her hand to her face and pinched either side of her face with her thumb and finger.
'Not now Henry' she mumbled
'I wasn't going to say a thing' he resorted and she snapped her eyes open lifting her head to him
'Oh really, I find that hard to believe' she snapped at him
'Elizabeth really, shouting is not going to do us any favours' he sighed 'But I do want to talk to you'
'I think we're beyond talking don't you?' She resorted
'Don't do that, do not make it impossible to communicate with you' he gritted his teeth
'I don't want to talk Henry' she looked out the window away from him, pushing back tears as she felt ashamed of herself. Henry sighed heavily and shook his head, he wasn't having it. He moved across the seats and pulled her in for a hug, refusing to let her go.
She fell into him and nuzzled her head into the crook of his neck, her tears falling onto him as she succumbed to his loving embrace. He placed his hand on the back of her head and one around her back, softly rubbing his thumb in circular motions in an attempt to calm her. She sniffled and pulled herself back, her face inches from his.
'I'm a mess Henry' she cried. A sympathetic smile fell on his lips as he thought about what to say. He looked at the window and noticed they had pulled up outside the state department. She looked behind her and sighed.
'Go to work and distract yourself, and when you come home I'll be there, if you want that is' She chewed her lip and nodded.
'Thank you, for today' she smiled
'Go save the world' he teased and she chuckled before exiting the motorcade, leaving Henry alone with a million thoughts.
