Chemistry, or Chemistry?
a/n: sorry for the wait whoever requested this.
TW: homephobic slur (only once and the character is put in their place) and the last 'scene' there is a sick character. Sorry if autocorrect did me dirty or if there are any spelling mistakes lol
Kara and Alex got off the bus and made their way to the front entrance. "I can't believe mom wouldn't let me drive to school," Alex complained.
"She said you could drive at the start of the next school year," Kara explained for the umpteenth time that week. "She's paid for me and you to use the bus. So use it,"
Kara then walked ahead to meet Winn leaving Alex at the front door, holding her bag by one strap. Alex sighed and gripped her bag strap tighter. What a day this was going to be.
Alex sat down in the lesson and her head immediately got rested on her hand. What a bore. Who even liked science? Alex preferred languages. All of Alex's sciences teachers said she excelled at the lesson — her biology teacher said she particularly better in that area.
"Ms Danvers!" came the loud and sharp voice of Mr Tackley. She snapped out of her day dream and heard the class snigger — she caught Kara's eye and found her sister was trying not to laugh.
"Hello.." Alex replied nervously.
Mr Tackley sighed and rubbed his face. "What I was saying, Alex, was that we are going to be doing a five week long experiment. This requires lab partners. You will pull your partners name out of the hat. In alphabetical order…" Alex groaned; what twat was she going to be partnered with.
"Danvers, Alex."
Alex walked over and pulled out paper from the hat, she unfolded it and read out a name of a person she couldn't remember. "Erm, Maggie Sawyer?" she saw a tan girl lift her head up from the desk and then walk over and sit in the empty seat next to Alex. "Hi,"
"Hey,"
"Danvers, Kara."
Alex watched Kara walk up to the front and yank a white slip out the hat. A grin formed on her face. "Winn!"
"Oh how convenient," scoffed the brunette.
"Why, who's Winn?" Maggie asked. Alex jumped slightly as she forgot Maggie was even there.
"Oh. Just Kara's best friend. They've been best friends since Kara first moved here," she grumbled. Why couldn't she have been paired with Josie? Maggie must have sensed that Alex didn't want to speak so she just nodded and turned attention back to the teacher.
"We have to research for this so who wants to come to who's house?" Maggie asked as the bell rung. She flung her bag on her back and straitened her jacket before looking at Alex, her head tilting up slightly.
Alex looked thoughtful. "Your house? It's just that I don't want Kara interrupting us every three seconds," Maggie nodded and then walked off while Alex lingered for Kara. They had most their lessons together and it was history next. Kara finally finished packing up and made her way over to the door. "Took you long enough," she muttered.
"Sorry. I couldn't find my pen," Kara replied breathlessly and with a flustered face. Alex rolled her eyes and the sisters walked off.
Four Days Later
"Ahh! My head hurts," complained Maggie. They were laying on the floor in Maggie's bedroom. Alex had to admit, her bedroom looked really nice. There was a cream carpet with a crimson carpet under her desk and next her bed. Her bed was a simple single bed but it had two sets of drawers under the bed.
On the walls, it was a nice pale blue with white lines going down it. There was a bookshelf with binders and a box — Alex didn't know what was in it but on the front of the box was a heart coloured in purple pencil.
Alex looked at her from under her eyelashes and found herself studying the other girl. The way her dimples became more pronounced when she smiled, usually at something on her phone. The way her eyes lit up even more than usual when she laughed, how Maggie can make you laugh with one sentence.
"We can stop, if you want. We've been working on this for, like, three hours now. Why don't we… get a snack and watch a film?" Alex suggested. Maggie stretched and yawned before nodding her head.
"Yeaaah. Why not?" they got up and shut all the books before putting them in a pile at the end of Maggie's bed. They got downstairs and found Gabby on the sofa, watching tv.
"Hey Aunt Gabby," Maggie greeted — Gabriela wasn't in when the girls got in from school.
"Hi Mags. Hi Alex,"
"Hi Miss Sawyer," Alex greeted politely.
"Alex, please, call me Gabby. Or at least Gabriela," the older woman said with a smile.
Alex nodded tentatively, "Okay, thanks… Gabby,"
Maggie had made her way into the kitchen while the little conversation was going down and Alex quickly made her way over. She didn't realise Maggie had turned around and they clashed into each other causing Maggie to drop the two bags of sweets. "Ah!" she yelled in surprise, flinching back. Both girls looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"I am so sorry," Alex said while laughing. They picked the sweets up and ran upstairs while causally pushing each other into the wall.
( Gabby smiled as she saw her niece having fun for the first time in around 3 years. )
"So, what do you want to watch?" asked Maggie as she bounced onto the bed. She budged up to the wall and Alex gingerly crawled next to her.
"I'm not bothered, to be honest. Me and Kara are watching That's so Raven but I can't watch it without her," Alex replied. Maggie nodded and made a noise of acknowledgment. She looked through the tv.
"Phineas and Ferb?"
"Sure. Why not?" Alex replied with a smile.
Throughout the whole thing, Alex found herself glancing at Maggie through the corner of her eye every few minutes. Maggie laughed at something the evil guy said ( Alex wasn't paying attention ) and Alex almost combusted at the sight it made.
Maggie was so beautiful.
Wait… where did that come from?
Why did she feel all these things for someone she had only really known for just under a week. When did she start to feel more than friendship for Maggie? When did she start to feel more than friendship for Maggie? What did this mean?
Alex forgot she was staring at Maggie so she was startled out of her day dream when her eyes made connection with Maggie's. She startled and turned to look at the tv.
"Where you staring at me?" asked Maggie with a teasing tone and a smirk. Alex turned red.
"N- n- no," she shook her head adamantly. Maggie laughed and nudged Alex with her shoulder.
"It's fine. I know I'm amazing," Maggie joked.
"Haha ," Alex replied weakly.
Oh dear god.
Over the past few days, Alex noticed that she had become increasingly infatuated with her new science partner. The first thought in a morning was Maggie and her last thought before she went to bed was Maggie. She also noticed that even she went over to Maggie's house for homework? They would spend more time on her bed watching tv together ( well, Alex would always look at Maggie so there wasn't much tv watching on her half ) than actually working.
"This week guys. This week we will be doing the test and then evaluation of your work," called Mr Tackley as everyone stiffened their things in their bags. Nobody was really listening because it was now Friday lunch time.
As usual, Alex wait for Kara. Only this time, Maggie waited too.
"And you're sure they won't mind," Maggie asked for the fifth time since science started.
"I am positive," Alex groaned. Maggie nodded and shivered her hands in her pocket. Alex turned and saw Kara heading for them with another girl trailing behind. There was another kid in their class?
The four walked down the corridors and into the upperclass canteen. The Danvers siblings ( plus mystery girl and Maggie ) all found their table. Sat at it was Winn, James and Lucy.
"Hey guys," Kara greeted with a grin.
"Hi Kara. Lena," they replied. Alex was confused now. How did they know Lena?
"This is Maggie," Alex said as they all sat down.
"Hi," Maggie said with a smile.
"Question: who is Lena and why am I only meeting her now?" Alex asked quickly, she wanted to get that out 30 seconds ago.
"Lena is my friend and you have just met her because you've been spending the past three weeks with Maggie. Every waking minute, might I add, and you're never home until after dinner. That's why you haven't met her," Kara replied. Alex thought she looked upset and kicked herself. Of course. It would seem like Alex was pulling away because even the brunette could admit she had been spending a lot of time with Maggie. She can't even remember the last sister night they had.
"I'm sorry Kara. How about a sister night on Saturday?" Kara grinned and nodded. They then dug in.
Kara and Alex sat in their makeshift pillow-fort that Saturday night with the flashlights and snacks and laptop along with sleeping bag. "Tell me about Lena," Alex said.
Kara smiled and Alex could see she was picturing the raven haired girl. "Well, her name is Lena Luthor—"
Alex turned sharply to look at her. "Luthor? Kara! Are you out of your damn mind?! Her brother nearly killed your cousin no more than seven months ago!" Kara winced because Alex was shouting and she was basically right next to her.
"Lena isn't like her family Alex," Kara argued.
"Hmph. I warned you," she grumbled.
"Okay, whatever. Anyway. She is amazing. So intelligent and caring," she said. Alex could literally see her anime counterpart and her heart-eyes. "Tell me about Maggie. You have basically lost touch with reality ever since Tackley gave us the assignment,"
Alex thought back to these past few weeks with Maggie. How they laughed and watched films and how they played games on Maggie's Nintendo DS. They have been amazing.
"When she smiles, she has these deep dimples and her smile really shows off her pearl white teeth. Her eyes are like hot chocolate and—"
"Alex Danvers. Are you in love?" Kara interrupted.
"What? No! Kara, what the hell. I don't like girls that way," Alex snapped. Kara looked back a little and then snuggled deeper into her sleeping bag.
"Oh," she said in a small voice. "Okay. I- I think a i'm going to go to sleep now though Alex. Busy day tomorrow," she then turned over leaving Alex to groan and make silent expressions.
She'd fluffed that one up, that's for sure.
Alex sat in her seat and rested her head on her hands. She was startled when a bag slammed on the desk. It was followed by a chuckle. "Did I scare you Danvers?" Maggie asked in amusement.
"Pssh, no!" she replied while turning red.
"Uhhuh. I believe you Danvers," Maggie replied with a smirk. Truth was, Alex was shattered. After what Kara said the night before, she hadn't been able to sleep. Does she like Maggie?
That's the question that has been in her head for 2 days. 48 hours. 2,880 minutes and 172,800 seconds.
Alex turned her head to look at the teacher but she caught Kara's eye. She was smirking and inclined her head in Maggie's direction. Alex glared at her.
"Alex…" Maggie whispered. She turned her head and saw Maggie look to see if the teacher was looking. "Want to come over to my house this weekend?" she asked.
Alex grew a grin and nodded her head, "Of course," she replied as if it was obvious. It's been a month since fate assigned them partners and she's only ever been to Maggie's house a handful of times. She'd noticed that Maggie had been a little withdrawn the past few weeks, avoiding talking about her family, so it was nice to get the offer.
Maggie got her key out of her bag and unlocked the door. As usual, Gabby wasn't home so after taking a plate and putting a few snacks on it, they headed upstairs. "So, what we doing today? Film? Never have I ever? Uno? Sna-" Alex was cut off when a pair of lips pressed against hers. She was taken by surprise but melted into the kiss, her hand even came up to cradle Maggie's cheek. Despite having only made out a couple times, she found this quite easy. Alex even pinned the smaller girl to the wall and pressed against her.
When they both needed air, they slowly unlatched their lips and stared at each other; catching their breath with smiley faces. "Wow," Alex muttered.
"Yeah, wow." Maggie repeated, just as out of breath as Alex, if not more because she anxious Alex would reject her. They stared at each other then, Maggie still leaning on the wall and Alex with her hand on the wall. "So…" Maggie whispered.
"So…" Alex went to kiss her again but they heard a banging on the door. Maggie furrowed her brow and stood up straight. Her and Alex made their hair a tad bit better before walking downstairs and to the door. Maggie opened it and in came a man that was slightly taller than the two girls. He was in jeans and a basketball tshirt with a jacket, he was slumbling a little. Maggie looked like she knew him and the man was actively avoiding looking at her.
"Dad… what are you doing here?" she asked cautiously.
"Where's Gabriela?" he asked gruffly.
"Erm, I- I don't know. She should be home soon though," Maggie replied, her face showed shock and… sadness? Truth be told, Alex had never met Maggie's dad. Hadn't even heard her mention him — or her mom.
"Mmm. Who's this?" he asked, pointing harshly to Alex.
"Oh, erm… she's erm… well-" she stumbled on her words and started fidgeting with her hands.
"Hi. I'm Alex Danvers," Alex said and she held out her hand. The man merely scoffed at it and turned to face his daughter.
"Is she another dyke? When are you going to learn Maggie; it's unnatural!" he all but yelled. Maggie flinched back and lowered her head.
"Hey! Don't you dare speak to her like that you bastard!" Alex snapped, moving in front of Maggie. The man sneered.
"Whatever. She'll learn one day," he walked to the fridge and nicked a bottle of beer before storming out the house and slamming the door shut. Maggie started to cry as the noise of the door silenced. Alex held her close and rubbed up and down her back.
"Sssh. It's okay," she whispered, stroking through her hair. Maggie clutched onto her and so Alex brought them over to the sofa and sat down. Maggie out her head on her lap and faced Alex. The taller girl casually raked her hand through Maggie's hair and rubbed her back.
When Gabby got in ( 10 minutes later ) she found Alex staring lovingly at her fast-asleep niece. As Gabby got closer, she saw her puffy eyes and tear tracks on her skin and looked questionly at Alex.
"I think her dad showed up. Said somethings," Alex said with a shrug, she was still going over things. Gabby sighed and walked even closer. She knelt down and kissed Maggie's head causing the girl to stir and turn around on Maggie's lap ( so she was facing the wall ).
"Are you okay?" Gabby asked.
"Mhmm. Why wouldn't I be?" she asked. Gabby looked at her knowingly. "I- I really like her, Gabby. Like, really like her. Then her dad came storming in shouting this and that and I'm scared she'll back off, you know? Build a wall," Alex confessed.
"Then I guess me and you will have to help hey, eh?" Alex smiled and nodded before looking at Maggie again.

The next day at school, Maggie couldn't see either Danvers Sister. It got her worried and anxious. What if Alex was avoiding her? After the shit-show that went down at her house, no wonder Alex doesn't want anything to do with her.
"Miss Sawyer. Am I boring you?" Mrs Chelsea asked. Maggie snapped back and looked at the teacher.
"Huh? No," Maggie replied; correction, yes.
"What did I just say?" she challenged.
"…Am I boring you?"
Maggie sighed and walked out of the classroom, a green slip clutched in her hand. She got her phone out:
[ You ] Alex? You ok?
How come you aren't at school
You or little Danvers aren't here
Is it […]
She deleted that last bit and shoved her phone in her pocket.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
"I'll get it!" Kara yelled. She floated to the stairs before running down them. Opening the door, she saw Maggie. The girl was wearing a jacket that looked a little big and her hands were shoved in her jeans pocket. "Hi Maggie. Alex is in her bedroom," Kara said.
"Why weren't you at school all week?" she asked.
"I didn't want to leave Alex alone," the girl replied. She then walked off. Maggie nodded jerkily and slowly made her way to the stairs. She then ran up them and knocked on Alex's bedroom door.
"Yeah?" she heard a quiet call from inside.
"It's me,"
"Come in," Maggie walked in and saw Alex bundled in bed with something paused on her laptop. "Hi Mags," Alex sounded awful. She looked really tired and her throat was all raspy.
"You look like crap Danvers," Maggie commented. Alex let out a chuckle that sounded raspy and painful. Alex patted the bed and Maggie crawled in. Alex wrapped her arm around her moved a bowl that was next to her further to the wall so they could both fit in comfortably.
"I got food poisoning," she explained. "And a cold,"
"Ouch," Maggie winced. Alex nodded with a sarcastic smile before closing her eyes and turning her head to the bowl. After a few, she turned back to Maggie. "So this is why you haven't been at school all week,"
Alex nodded her head slowly. "Yes. I have been spewing my guts… literally, I- I'm not actually sure they're there anymore," Maggie laughed and kissed her cheek. Alex blushed.
"I'm sorry about my dad Alex. I- I hope he hasn't put you off me," Maggie said quietly. Alex scoffed and hissed her cheek.
"He's just a dickhead in a looooong line of dickheads. He's the first for me, but he won't be the last. And for you, know you'll always have me to have your back. Forever and always," Maggie grinned and kissed Alex deeply; who cares if she's sick. One day they were going to say vows to each other. One of them was In sickness and in health, all she was doing is fufilling them a little earlier.
Alex pushed her away and threw up in the bowl. Maggie rubbed her back and whispered to her when she was dry heaving. "Sssh. It's okay. Deep breath," she comforted. Alex's eyes watered and when she was done and sat there panting; her head hanging over the bowl. Kara came rushing upstairs.
"Alex? Are you okay," she asked. Maggie was rubbing her back so Kara got some tissue and a glass of water before handing it to the tanned girl. Alex leaned backwards and rested her head on Maggie's chest. Kara gave her a kiss on the head and took the bowl, leaving them alone.
Once she had cleaned up around her mouth and taken a sip of water, Maggie ran her hand through her hair.
"Sorry,"
"De nada mi amor," Maggie whispered. Alex smiled sleepily.
"Your voice is pretty," she said. Maggie chuckled and rested her head on Alex's. "I think I love you Maggie Sawyer,"
"I think I love you too Alex Danvers. Go sleep mi amor. I'll be here when you wake up," Maggie coaxed softly.
"Oh…-kay… mi …'mor," she mumbled.

I hope that was good. It's been sitting on Word for ages now only half complete. I tried finishing it like a-thousand words ago but I kept on writing. I really liked this one.
