"Wow, you look so pretty darling." Lillian complimented, smiling at her daughter. Lena smiled back and hesitated before wrapping Lillian in a quick hug. Surprised, Lillian didn't react in time, and Lena had pulled away before anything was processed.

"Fank'oo mummy," Lena said shyly, playing with her hands. Lillian nodded and gently turned Lena around. Once that was done, she got up on her knees and pulled the bobble out of Lena's black hair, and grabbed the brush. She felt Lena tense but, then again, what kid loved their hair being brushed? The amount of things they get up to during the day, their hair is bound to be knotty.

"Sit still baby," Lillian said softly, gently turning Lena's head to the right so she could brush it right.

"S- s- sorry m- mummy," stammered Lena, now sitting almost like a statue. Stupid Lena, mummy was being nice and you just ruined it!

Lillian almost felt the fear and sighed. If this went on any longer, she was going to cry herself. How could she do this to her baby girl? Watching Lena grow up with these harsh expectations on her. Having to no-doubt rely on friends or the maids for help regarding changes as she got older as she had no mother figure. She doubted Lex was taught anything about that stuff, so he was out the window. She highly doubted Lionel - despite his love for her - took time to talk to her about these things.

"Hey, hey. It's okay Lena. I'm not mad. Promise," Lillian said softly, wrapping her arms around Lena's front and bringing her in for a hug. She held Lena's wrists with care, a slight ploy so she could feel her pulse.

Her heart shattered when she felt it pulsing fast.

Faster than it should for a- a little girl Lena's height, size and age!

It shows how truly scared her Lena is. How scared she is of one of the people that should be protecting her.

"Pinky swear promise?" Lena asked, her voice cracking. She turned around and looked at Lillian with a small pout and shiny eyes. "With a cake on top?" Liliana smiled and nodded.

"I pinky swear promise with two cakes on top," Lillian answered, kissing Lena's nose. Lena grinned, showing off her white teeth with her two front teeth missing. "How about, I put your hair in a bun or whatever you like… you go run to my bedroom and we can watch a film?" suggested Lillian.

"Yeah!" Lena answered. Lillian could see the ice slowly melting between them but she knew that they had a lot to go. They were nowhere near a real bond a mother should have with their child. They weren't even close. Lena would still choose that blond woman over her anyday, however it was something. Something she would happily take!
