A/N: In Wizards at War, Dairine's emerald was hung on 'a single sentence of the Speech' , but DD never told us what the sentence was. This scene in Wizards at War inspired this story:
There, around her neck, where it would stay, was the fat, round, gleaming emerald threaded on a single sentence in the Speech. It was not until a little earlier, when Dairine had had a moment by herself, that she'd had time to read what that sentence was. She was determined not to think about it now. She'd just cry again.
Wizards at War, page 541
Dairine was on the moon again, in the exact spot where Roshaun had disappeared. She was thinking of how he'd looked when she had last seen him, glowing with light that few, even wizards could control. Suddenly remembering something that had been niggling at her earlier, she pulled the emerald off. There, in the Speech, the one language that could not be lied in, were these words: The one who bears this jewel holds the love of the Sun King. Thinking of him, and what she was going to say to his parents on Wellakh, Dairine cried, in huge wracking sobs that shook her to the very core of her being.
And you know what happens after that...
Also, this is my 1st fanfic. This scene came to me while my dad was driving me home from the library and I just had to write it down. No one else, as far as I know, has written about this. Hope you liked it!
Oh, and I looked up Roshaun's name on Google. It means shining light… Appropriate for a sun king, no? And Dairine is from the Irish daire which means fruitful or fertile.
