Chapter 26: Spike's Birthday
The six were warned that it wasn't going to be a good week for Twilight and Spike. They were told that it was the anniversary week of well… getting sent back in time.
However it wasn't just the anniversary, although in the sense that due to math involved it really wasn't.
But at the same time it was also due to the placement of the original timeline.
But yeah due to the fact that day they got sent back in time was the same day that Spike would have been born it was a conflicting time for Spike.
But still he was laying on his bed in his depression .
However there was always someone to help Spike during the week.
Upstairs the door opened up.
"Welcome to the library." Said Izuku then he saw it was Ember.
"Hey! Spike is here, right?" asked Ember.
"Yes but I don't know…" said Izuku.
"It's fine…" said Ember taking out duct tape from somewhere .
"What?" asked Izuku.
She went down stairs.
OF course Spike was still laying on his bed depressed.
That was when Ember kicked the door open.
"Can we please not do this year?" asked Spike.
"Yeah… no…" said Ember getting the tape ready.
Upstairs they all heard the sounds of a struggle and several minute later Ember came up with a tapped up and gagged Spike (with tape of course).
Izuku was about to help Spike, but Starlight magically stopped him.
"Izuku… he needs this…" said Starlight.
However Spike just gave all of them a look of betrayal as the female dragon carried him out .
"Are you sure he'll be fine…" said Izuku.
"This happens every year." Said Starlight, "He's always in a better mood when he comes back…"
Sometime later Spike was finally free from the duct tape .
"Really?" asked Spike, "Duct tape this year?"
"Remember what happened when I used the unbreakable diamond filament tether…" said Ember with her eye twitching.
"It was so delicious." Said Spike drooling a little.
Ember laughed.
"So… this is your second to last birthday… you have the Elements of Harmony… why are you still depressed?" asked Ember.
"There's so many reasons…" sighed Spike.
"Like how you're going to die in like a year…" said Ember.
Spike didn't say anything.
(Flashback)
It has been a few days since they were trapped in the past.
Spike had come to a decision. And of course he talked to Twilight about his decision .
"Are you sure you want to do this?" asked Twilight, "I mean remember what happened the last time you met with Dragons."
"I know… but I need this… this isn't because I don't feel like a real dragon because I was raised by Ponies… I need this because I don't know even know if I'm a real anything…" said Spike.
Twilight sighed at this.
"I will come back…" said Spike.
"I know…" said Twilight.
Spike just needed to find himself, and he knew the truth.
He would come home one day…
He just need time to process the fact that was a magical creation that Twilight accidentally brought to life.
He then shuddered.
"You thought about it again… didn't you." Said Twilight.
"Yeah…" sighed Spike.
And so Spike went on his journey to find himself.
Going deep into the dragon lands.
During the journey from where they could tell it was he was a worried for a bit about running into those teenaged dragons from before… but then he remembered that they would be the same age at this point due to time travel.
"Wow… that's going to be weird now that I think about it…" mumbled Spike.
When he made it began to explore the area of the Dragon Lands.
He began to look around and that was when he saw a bunch of dragons his age (and even recognized them as the ones he knew from the original timeline) but also noticed a blue dragon.
"Look I don't have that kind of power!" said the blue dragon who was a girl from what Spike could tell.
"Oh come on, you're the Dragon Lord's daughter." Said Garble.
"Yeah, but I wouldn't be able to do stuff like that." Said the blue dragon rolling her eyes, "So stop trying to get me to do things like that!"
Spike jumped in.
"Hey! You heard the lady!" yelled Spike.
All of the dragons looked at him.
"Who are you!" demanded Garble.
"I have never seen him around here." Said one of Garble's lackies.
"Oh… I'm from Ponyville." Said Spike.
The boy dragons started to laugh .
"Oh you're from the Namby Pamby Pony Lands." Laughed Garble.
The blue dragon looked at Spike.
"You grew up with Ponies…" said the blue dragon .
"Yeah…" squad Spike.
"So you wouldn't know who I am…" said the Blue Dragon.
"Should I?" asked Spike.
The blue dragon began to drag him away.
"What?' asked Spike .
"Look I'd rather hang out with a dragon who doesn't now who I am than dragons who want to hang out with me just because of who my dad is." Muttered the Dragon.
"But aren't you going to make fun of me because I was raised by ponies." Said Spike.
"My father fears no dragon…" said the dragon, "But he does fear the Pony Princess who can control the sun and moon…"
Spike was about to say something but then realized.
"You know what… that's fair…" said Spike.
Considering he knew what magic could do he knew that tit made sense to fear Princess Celestia.
"I do personally know her…" said Spike with a shrug, "She's really nice…"
The dragon laughed .
"Ember…" said Ember, "Bratty daughter of the Dragon Lord."
"Spike… raised by ponies, including Princess Celestia…" said Spike.
"So I guess we're on equal ground then…" responded Ember.
"I guess…" said Spike.
"So if you were raised by Ponies… what are you doing here?" asked Ember.
"Oh trying to find myself… weird stuff happened to me recently, and I don't want to talk to talk about it…" said Spike.
"Good because I don't want to listen." Muttered Ember .
"Yeah… I kind of figured…" said Spike.
"Good…" said Ember, "Come on… if you have nowhere to stay… I'll show you some caves that I know that are abandoned…"
"Awesome!" said Spike.
"Just a word of warning… they might be smelly and have some left over from the dragons who left." Said Ember.
"That's fine…" said Spike.
She showed him various caves, thankfully there was one that wouldn't take that much cleaning that Spike claimed as his own.
It was still kind of gross but still…
Though out the months, Spike mostly hung with Ember though he did baby sit the babies sometimes, as it was a job very few wanted to do… but Spike didn't mind and because of that he had won over many young dragon's parents…
One of them being Garble's little sister who he actually along with greatly.
It was kind of weird…
He also had some Deja-vu involved that Dragon named Cackle and Derpy (they were the clumsy weird looking dragon… that always caused problems).
He had gotten closer to Ember during that time, while she was abrasive towards him. She was a good friend.
Of course he also exchanged letters with Twilight on occasion. Though he was surprised about the whole finding Starlight and befriending her.
If anything she had gotten to the root of Starlight's problems and prevented her from ever building Our Town.
While he was having an okay time in the Dragon Lands, he was starting to miss Equestria.
Though a part of him wanted to tell Ember why he needed to go the Dragon Lands.
"Ember…" said Spike, "I'm planning to go back to Equestria soon."
"So I guess you're starting to feel like a real dragon…" said Ember.
"Equestria is still my home and I miss Twilight…" said Spike.
"It's fine…' said Ember, "I won't miss you…"
Spike laughed knowing she was lying.
"But you're a good friend so I think I want to let you know the truth." Said Spike.
"What truth…" said Ember.
"Okay… there's two weird stories about me…" said Spike, "The first is that I'm a time traveler."
"What?" asked Ember.
"It's true." Said Spike who told Ember the story how he and Twilight got stranded.
"Whoa… that is so weird… but considering what I heard about magic… I can buy it…" said Ember.
"Thanks…" sighed Spike.
After all Twilight had her confidants about the whole time travel thing he should have his own.
However he felt like that she should know.
"You know how everybody often mock me for not being a real dragon." Said Spike.
Ember rolled her eyes.
"Just because you were raised by Ponies doesn't make you one…" said Ember.
"That's not what I mean…" sighed Spike.
"What do you mean?" asked Ember.
"I'm a magically created dragon…" said Spike.
"Wait… what?" asked Ember.
He explained to her in the original timeline (and that the altered timeline made sure he wasn't born in this one) and that thanks the power surge Twilight magicked him into existence when it was meant to be a test to deal with a no win situation.
"So you were hatched form a dummy egg when a very powerful unicorns magic went amuck?" asked Ember.
"Yeah…" sighed Spike, "A lot of the time I shudder thinking about it… but telling you just feels right… I guess I needed someone to know… besides Twilight and Princess Celestia."
"That whole thing doesn't sound too bad…" said Ember.
"IT doesn't sound like that… but when you think about it like I have…" said Spike, "I mean… am I a real dragon… am I really alive… what am I really?"
"Okay… okay… I get it… and that sounds awful…" said Ember.
"Yeah…" sighed Spike.
"If you go through the Molt… then you'll know your psychically a real dragon…" said Ember.
"Yeah… you got a point…" said Spike.
He had seen a couple other dragons go through the molt.
He knew that Ponies wouldn't kick him out when he went through it… he thought it was a compulsory thing when a dragon goes through but it turns out it's a "You're old enough now to live on your own" thing with dragons .
"Hey you think your Princess will let me visit you?" asked Ember.
"Hey you have to ask your dad." Said Spike .
"Touché…" said Ember.
And so Spike went back to Equestria and reunited with Twilight.
Though the first time he saw Ember when after he went through the Molt, she did tell him this…
"So at least you know you're a real dragon physically…" said Ember.
"Yeah…" laughed Spike.
(End of Flashback)
Both Ember and Spike watched the sun set.
"So… still have an Existential Crisis when trying to tell someone about your hatching?" said Ember.
Spike shuddered.
"Seriously you'd think you'd tell someone who aren't from this world." Said Ember.
"I want to tell Izuku and Tenya… but it's still hard to…" said Spike.
"Is that because they play your nerd game?" asked Ember.
"Yeah…" said Spike blushing.
Ember snorted.
"They aren't going to die because the timeline gets reset?" asked Ember.
"Nope, we still have no idea if they'll remember…" said Spike.
"How do you know they're not going to die…" said Ember.
"Discord told Twilight and did something that proved to her that he was being honest." Explained Spike.
"I guess if you believe him…" said Ember, "And yet... you believe someone named Discord."
"He's going to remember everything and if he's lying he's going to pay…" said Spike who was clearly trying not to laugh.
"Okay… I get the feeling you know what you're talking about…" said /Ember.
"Of course I do…" said Spike.
"Hey…" said Ember, "I know you're going to get erased… but that means I probably will too."
"Yeah…" said Spike, "At the best it will be like you never knew me…"
"So let's just enjoy the time we have left." Said Ember .
"Yeah…" said Spike.
"I'm totally going to crash at your place for a while during the migration." Said Ember, "Because I know it's going over Ponyville this year."
"I kind of figured…" laughed Spike.
Ember looked at Spike and blushed a look before looking at the sky.
"Happy birthday by the way." Said Ember .
"Thanks…" said Spike.
Back at the library.
"Wait… it's also Spike's birthday?" asked Ochaco surprised.
"Yeah… he doesn't really like celebrating it…" explained Sunburst.
"We think it has something to do with the fact that he was never born in this timeline…" said Starlight.
"How was not born?" asked Ochaco.
"His egg probably broke or something due to the timeline change." Muttered Katsuki rolling his eyes.
"That actually makes some sense…" said Shoto.
"We shouldn't say anything when he gets back." Said Tenya.
Though for some reason Izuku had gotten the feeling that wasn't it but decided to ignore it.
"So yeah… Ember is the only one that can get him to actually do something… even if it means she has to kidnap him…" said Starlight.
"That's weird…" said Ochaco.
"Yeah… but it works." Said Starlight.
The others realized that she had something of a point.
Still… Spike was working through some things… and they knew this and it was a lot… But they were wrong about why he was down…
But still his friendship with Ember was clearly deeper than they initially thought… which was nicer than they thought…
Next Time: It's time for another holiday that's similar to earth... this time a Christmas like holiday... and somehow for once nothing crazy happens... no really... seriously it's just a nice holiday... really... so yeah...
