Wow, I've never written two chapters in a day but I felt really motivated for some reason. I'm completely shocked that people are actually reading this but thank you for the support.
A loud car horn was the first thing Blaine heard when he woke up from a restless sleep.
"Blaine, the moving van is here! Go get ready. The movers will start loading your boxes soon.." Blaine's mom yelled from the otherside of his bedroom door, knocking on the door before walking away.
Blaine signed and slowly sat up from the air mattress he slept on. His bed and bedroom furniture were packed away and sent to the new house last week. He rubbed his eyes and yawned, regretfully welcoming the day he was dreading. Moving day. His father had gotten a promotion and they had to move closer to headquarters.
He glanced at the clock on his nightstand and read 9:00AM in big red numbers. At least it was early and he had time to stop by the Hummel residence before they had to leave. His parents said they needed to be on the road by noon. Blaine insisted on driving himself later today so he could spend more time with Kurt. His parents had a solution to that, which was to hire car movers for his car and his mother's.
Blaine reluctantly stood up and headed into his bathroom. He stared at himself and wondered why couldn't he be older so he had the right to stay. He hated the idea of leaving, moving to a new area and being the new kid. At sixteen years old, he knew it would be hard to fit in at a new high school. He hated the idea of leaving Kurt.
"Okay, be strong. Remember Courage." Blaine told himself. He selected his morning playlist and moved to turn on the shower. He hummed to himself, trying to let the music distract him as he showered from the horror of today. The day that he would leave his best friend.
He stepped out of the shower and fell into his normal routine. Hairdry hair, gel, brush teeth, get dressed and sing obnoxiously while completing every task. He fixed his bowtie and his look was complete.
He looked around his room with a frown. This was the only home that he had known. Sure, he moved to Lima when he was merely three years old from Westerville, but he didn't remember that place.
He grabbed a few light boxes and headed downstairs.
"Good morning, honey." Blaine's mom greeted. "You can place those by the front door. The movers will get them."
"I'm going to go over to the Hummel's for breakfast and I'll be back before noon." Blaine said, quickly rushing out the front door before his mother could argue. They could manage with him being gone for a few hours since Blaine's mom insisted the movers load the boxes.
The Hummel's house was just next door and Blaine was welcomed like family. In fact, Blaine felt more at home in their house than his own. He hated the idea that this would be his last breakfast with them and that he had to break the news. His parents insisted that he wait till the day of to tell them, basically threatened.
Blaine opened the back gate and entered the backyard. "Good morning, Carole." Blaine said with a smile as he saw her setting the table.
"Good morning, sweetheart." Carole said, giving Blaine a hug. "We hope you're hungry. Kurt went a bit crazy with the brunch feast this morning."
Burt walked outside holding multiple trays of food. All the classic breakfast foods. "It's a good thing we have Finn or most of this would go to waste. That boy is like a vacuum." He said with a laugh. "I hope you brought your appetite. Kurt went on a cooking frenzy."
"Enough mocking me. We are going to have a nice breakfast." Kurt said, walking out with a pitcher of orange juice. He had on an apron over his usual skinny jeans and button up shirt. Blaine always thought Kurt could wear anything and still pull it off. "Especially you, our guest of honor." Kurt pulled out a chair and motioned for Blaine to sit. Everyone sat at their usual seats.
Blaine gulped at Kurt's comment. He didn't want to break their hearts. "Actually, I need to tell you all something." He said, wiping his palms on his pants. He could feel them already start to sweat.
"Why so serious, Blaine?" Finn asked as he took his seat. He reached for a waffle and was met with Kurt's hand slapping it away, "Not yet."
Blaine took a deep breath. "Well, first of all I wanted to tell you all sooner but my parents made me promise to wait. They really didn't want anyone to know until now." He started, feeling sweat start to run down his neck. He really hated this. "I don't know how to say this..."
Finn interrupted him, "Man, if you're going to say you're gay, you already..."
"I'm moving." Blaine exclaimed. "I'm moving at noon. I wish I would have told you all earlier but my parents would have done something about it." He added.
Everyone was in shock and it was silent for a few moments.
Kurt's eyes widened in horror at the news. "You're kidding. You have to be." Blaine shook his head and looked down. "What kind of best friend tells their best friend they are moving within hours?"
Blaine felt so small and was ready to run home. He knew it, they hated him. Kurt hated him. He motioned to walk back home and stopped when he heard a voice. "Blaine, come here son."
It was Burt. Blaine turned to look at them and Burt had his arms open to welcome him into a hug. "We're going to miss you, kiddo." He said pulling Blaine into an embrace.
"Oh I'm sure I'll be missing you all more." Blaine said, looking at them with a sad smile. He looked at them as if he were talking a mental picture.
"Man, I'm going to miss you. You'll still be in our time zone so don't forget that Thursday's are our Halo nights, dude." Finn said, in a muffled voice from the waffle he was eating. "I'm going to need all the help I can get now that Puck has leveled up."
Blaine laughed and nodded. "Count me in. Puck needs to taste his own medicine with those aliens."
Kurt rolled his eyes, "Enough of this video game talk. You're leaving? Like actually moving away." Blaine nodded, "I'm moving to Michigan and at noon I have to be back home for the drive there."
Kurt couldn't believe what he was hearing, what he was feeling. Blaine was leaving him. He wanted to run, cry, be angry at Blaine, but what would that do? If there is anything he learned from his mother's passing, it was that time was precious. It wasn't worth being mad at Blaine if this was the last time he would see him. He shuddered at the thought.
"Well, we'll have this breakfast in honor of Blaine. " Burt cleared his throat and grabbed his glass. "Blaine, you've always been a son to me. It's a shock that you're moving but we can't do anything about that now. I'm going to miss you when you're in Michigan. Remember that you're always welcomed here and if you need anything, and I mean anything. You can always stop by or give us a call. I'm here for you." He said, raising his glass.
"I guess it's my turn." Carole said, standing up. "Blaine, you've been part of this family way before me and Finn joined. And to piggyback off of Burt, you're a son to me. When I married Burt, I didn't just get Kurt but I got you as well." She sniffed and grabbed her napkin to wipe her nose. "We will always be there for you, sweetheart. You're family." She moved to hug Blaine and sat down.
Finn was halfway not so secretly scarfing down on a muffin when Kurt elbowed him for his turn. "Yeah... uh... dude we're going to miss you." Finn muffled before swallowing the rest of the bite of muffin and cleared his throat. "You're my brother, man. But not like how Kurt is my brother because my mom married Burt, you know. You're like my friend brother, my brother friend.."
"Okay, thank you for those kind words, Finn. You can stop and swallow instead of continuing to chew like a madman." Kurt said, clapping his hands together. "Blaine, as you know I will never say goodbye to you. You're my best friend and we will talk about this like we always do. We're inseparable."
"Yeah, you two had diapers full of sand any time you had a playdate." Burt laughed. "I could never get you two out of the damn sandbox."
Blaine laughed at the memory. "That would be the only time you would catch Kurt playing with dirt."
Kurt laughed, "Yeah and those were the times before Blaine discovered his father's hair gel at seven years old." Everyone laughed at the comment and Blaine frowned. "Hey, it's still a good look," sticking his tongue out at him.
"Anyway, it's bittersweet to bid farewell to a member of this family. But you know, you could always stay in our guest room." Kurt pleaded.
Blaine sent him a remorseful look. "You know I would if I could. I don't want to leave as much as you all want me to stay. I love you all. You're my family and I will miss you more than you know." He admitted, holding back the tears that threatened to fill his eyes. "But enough of this, we can't have Kurt's delicious feast go to waste."
They all raised their glasses, "To Blaine!" The Hummel's declared.
Breakfast started off silent but grew into feeling like any other with them exchanging stories and witty remarks. They all knew better than to waste what little time they had left with Blaine
Blaine smiled as he looked around the table. They were right, they were family and he would definitely miss them. He felt extremely guilty for keeping this secret but it was better than what would have happened if he told.
Once breakfast was over, Carole shooed Blaine and Kurt away but made Finn stay to help. They all could feel the time clicking away faster than normal, faster to the inevitable.
Blaine sat down on the grass and laid down. He looked up at the sky. "I can't believe this is the last time I'll be over." He sighed, watching the clouds float by.
Kurt laid beside him, his arm brushed against Blaine's. He stayed silent, not sure what to say. What do you say when your best friend is leaving and you can't do anything to stop it. He signed and closed his eyes. This move couldn't have come at a worst time. Ever since Blaine and Kurt were young, they both knew that they were gay. Kurt was the first to realize it when he was 3 and all he wanted was to play dress up with his mother's clothes. Blaine, however, took a few more years to realize it. But what they both didn't know was how they felt for each other.
If Blaine was oblivious to his own sexuality for years, then he was even more so to Kurt's feelings for him. That lingering crush that Kurt has had since they were twelve. It's funny to think that they were painfully oblivious to each other's feelings but didn't want to risk the friendship they had for the possibility of having more.
Kurt turned to his side and looked over at Blaine. He knew it wasn't worth it to confess like he had been planning to for months, who was he kidding, years now. He stared at the beautiful boy across from him. He couldn't risk their last day together, last hours together being the worst with his confession. He bit his lip and nudged his way to hugging Blaine's chest. "I meant what I said, I'm never saying goodbye to you." He whispered.
Blaine returned the hug and closed his eyes. He breathed in the smell of Kurt's shampoo and smiled. "No one is making you. I'm taking this as I will see you soon." He enjoyed the embrace and treasured it. This would be the last time he held the one he loves. Of course, he couldn't admit to Kurt his feelings. Especially with the move. It wouldn't be fair to either of them.
They both just laid there, soaking in the comfort of each other's presence while they still could. After a few moments, they met eyes. Blaine knew it was now or never and knew if he didn't he would regret it. He looked into Kurt's gorgeous blue eyes and leaned down, pressing his lips to Kurt's.
Kurt let out a shaky breath, feeling Blaine's lips against his own. Once again he was caught in shock but before he could do anything he was startled by the sound of a car horn.
"Blaine! It's time!"
Blaine pulled away and looked over at his watch. 12:00PM. Those numbers taunted him. How could this be it, his last moment with Kurt? The boy to whom he spent almost every moment he could since he was three. Well, as much time as he could spare before his parents called him home. They were never fond of their friendship and Blaine knew why.
"I'm never saying goodbye to you, Blaine."
Blaine woke up in a panic. He raised a hand to his lips and could hear Kurt's words clear as day. He replayed that day in his head after all these years. What if he tried harder to stay? Would he have still been as miserable as he has been all these years? All he wanted was to be with Kurt. He had tried every opportunity to go back. He tried driving down and ended up with a flat tire only miles away from his house. He has tried emailing, calling and texting Kurt but all efforts were met with silence. He sent letters to Kurt and the Hummel's but no reply. His parents halted any idea he had to visit the Hummel's. After a while, all that one way communication had Blaine exhausted. Why was it so hard to reach him? They were in the same country. Blaine would have been told if they changed their numbers or moved. He still had the same numbers and address since the move. But nothing from them.
It made Blaine jaded. How could they claim to love someone as family and completely block them out. All his efforts to waste. How could Kurt forget about him?
Blaine eventually gave up and followed whatever plan his parents wanted, there wasn't a point to fighting it. He couldn't be happy without Kurt in his life. He poured himself into his studies and ended up graduating early. The thought that he could go to college in Ohio was lost, what was the point if he had no one there? Besides, his parents were adamant about him attending Harvard, his father's alma mater.
Despite the jadeness, Blaine still tried to keep tabs on the Hummel's over the years. Nothing came up in his searches. It wasn't until he graduated medical school that in his job searching he was contacted by the last person he thought he would hear from again. Burt Hummel.
So this was a longer chapter and it was indeed a flashback on Blaine's moving day. Please tell me what you think! I will be back with more soon!
