Another chapter finished and it's about a week late but it's better than nothing. I don't know how long this story will be honestly. I have a lot more to explore within this world. I did take a break with my vacation and didn't end up writing anything until I got back. I posted a one-shot that I'm proud of, if you have free time, please check it out. So back to our lovebirds.
"I think we should get out of the house." Blaine said happily, clapping his hands together. He had completed Kurt's morning vitals, and everything looked good. Kurt's medicine regime had been decreased since the side effects were affecting Kurt more than the treatment was.
It was a good sign, but part of Blaine was scared. If he did manage to 'cure' Kurt of whatever his condition was, wouldn't that mean Blaine's time at the Hummel-Hudson's was over?
It's not like he could stick around forever as Kurt's personal doctor, no matter how much they paid him. He couldn't just hang around once Kurt got better, he wouldn't be needed. The thought scared him, the idea of not being needed by Kurt. However, it made him happy to think Kurt didn't have to suffer any more.
Kurt's words would still linger in Blaine's mind. '... why I fell in love with him in the first place...' He never mentioned the interaction since that day. Even if Kurt felt the same before, it didn't mean he still felt that way. Their relationship had teetered on the fine line between professional and personal. Blaine knew better than to completely cross over. He could be Kurt's friend again perhaps. It was close enough without either of them getting hurt.
All signs pointed to Kurt returning his feelings, the kiss when they were younger and the obvious confession, but he needed to focus on the main point and not the silly feelings he had. Kurt was dying and Blaine was in charge of treating him. It wouldn't do either of them any good if Blaine neglected his duties to chase some teenage fantasy. Still, it pained Blaine to think of his life without Kurt again.
Maybe once he solved the medical mystery, then it was time to confess his feelings. He didn't have much to lose anymore. Maybe they could finally be together? Maybe there would still be a reason for Blaine to stay. Nothing could be decided until Kurt was healed.
Blaine made the agreement with Burt and Carole that he would stay as long as he was needed for Kurt's health. It's not that he wanted his time with them to end quickly, but he wanted Kurt's pain to stop as soon as possible. Kurt had already made such incredible progress than he had made in years within these short weeks. With how things were looking, it would only be a month or so before Kurt was healed so to speak.
They just finished breakfast and Blaine had a surprise plan for the rest of the day. He had spoken to Burt and Carole about it, making sure to get their approval and not overstep.
Apart from their daily walks, Blaine knew Kurt needed something more to motivate him. He knew Burt's concern with Kurt locked away at home. It's not that Kurt couldn't leave, he could even drive himself if he wanted to, it was that Kurt wouldn't leave.
Sure, Kurt would accompany Blaine to the monthly farmers market after much nagging on Blaine's part. Kurt really took the opportunity to spend even more time with him. He loved their car rides the most. It was a flashback to the past when they would get out of the house to get time to themselves. The best part about the drive were the duets they had. Something about their voices just blended perfectly together. It was unknown to each other, but they both thought it was a sign they were meant to be together.
"Is this where you kidnap me?" Kurt joked, looking up from his book. He was sprawled on the couch with some romance novel in his hand. Reading had been a huge escape for him just as music had been. It allowed him to live different lives and travel to worlds far away from his own. It allowed him to forget about his life and take the form in another one.
Blaine nodded with a huge grin on his face. No words needed to be said for Kurt to know that today was accounted for. He knew better than to resist Blaine's charge. Last time Blaine had suggested they go somewhere and Kurt denied the experience, Blaine had tricked Kurt with plans for a shopping spree. When in reality, Blaine was taking him to the beach. Kurt had no time to pack the essentials and ended up stuck on a sandy beach with his best pants and favorite shoes ruined. Luckily, Blaine packed sunscreen or else Kurt would have been a lobster.
That day was still one of Kurt's favorites, not that he would care to admit it to Blaine. He spent the day soaking up the sun on a comfy blanket. Blaine brought Kurt a swimsuit to join him and while Kurt did have to change into them due to his soiled pants, he refused getting into the water. Instead, he watched Blaine have the time of his life swimming with the shallow waves. It was like watching a dog playing in water and Kurt loved every second.
This friendship is what he missed. Things have gotten easier, and Kurt felt better with every moment they spent together. They were practically joined at the hip once the awkwardness faded. It was like old times, but it was better because they didn't need to hide anything. Well, everything but their feelings for each other. Kurt was still too fragile to handle it all and Blaine didn't want to ruin anything. They had just gotten each other back and it was going to take time to heal their wounds and their relationship.
Kurt closed his book and sighed. "Can I at least use the bathroom before we leave this time?" He said, standing up and giving Blaine a questioning look. He was trying to read him to get any hint. Blaine had a simple outfit on, and Kurt was impressed how someone with plain black jeans and a red polo could look so amazing. Yes, it was Blaine after all but if anyone else were wearing the exact outfit then Kurt would imagine they were dressed for a shift at Target.
With the beach incident, Kurt ended up running to the bathroom once they arrived at the beach. It should have been a sign of the trip because Kurt had tiptoed around the bonfire pits only to trip and fall into it. Blaine bit back his laugh and helped Kurt up to reveal the giant charcoal splotches all over Kurt's white jeans. Kurt rushed to the bathroom, grumbling as he entered. A scream was heard and before Blaine could run in, Kurt had exited with a defeated look on his face. It turns out that some children thought it would be hilarious to build a giant sandcastle with paint in the men's bathroom. Kurt had run into it in his rush and his jeans and shoes were covered in red and blue paint.
"It's been two months since the beach incident, Kurt. I thought you forgave me already." Blaine pleaded, giving Kurt his bed puppy dog impression. "Besides, you had fun on that trip, and you know it. I remember you scarfed down those smores I made." He teased. "But don't you worry, delicious food is included this time." He followed Kurt towards their bedrooms.
"I'm giving you an hour to pack. The only hint you're getting is that music is involved." Blaine told the other before disappearing into his bedroom, leaving the door open. "Oh, I'd tell you to wear something nice but that's something that comes naturally to you." He called out.
Kurt furrowed his brows as he stood at Blaine's bedroom door. Blaine was rummaging through a fully packed suitcase and humming softly to himself. "How long is this trip? You look like you packed hair gel for weeks." He said, peeking into the suitcase. He had no idea where they were going with the wide arrangement of outfits he spotted.
"Now you're exaggerating. It's no more than I would use for a few days." Blaine clarified, holding up a tub of hair gel. "Go get packing. Some casual clothes, comfy ones since we'll be walking. It'll be 3 days or so. Depends how long it takes for us to get there. Plus, if you would like to stay longer, we can do that as well."
"Okay, I'm trusting you, Blaine. This trip needs to be a thousand times better than the last one. You owe me." Kurt quipped before heading to his own bedroom. He pulled out his suitcase and beelined to the bathroom to gather his essentials. He could not be without his skincare.
After about a half hour later, Blaine peered his head into Kurt's bedroom. Kurt was holding two practically identical shirts in each hand, mumbling to himself. "How is it going?" He said in a sing-song voice. He plopped himself on Kurt's bed, swinging his legs off the edge.
"There are too many options, Blaine. I don't even know where we're going. I don't want to be overdressed." Kurt stressed, letting out a frustrated sigh. "I really don't want to be underdressed. Which is better?" He said, holding up two blue shirts.
"I'm not going to lie. They look the same." Blaine started, giving Kurt a sincere look. "I'd go with the purple short sleeved button-up you have instead. Your arms look amazing in that." He said before his eyes widened and a blush formed on his cheeks.
Kurt did a double take at Blaine as he listened. Blaine noticed his arms and thought they were amazing. This couldn't be real. Friends say that all the time. That had to be the case. "It's the workouts you have me on, Blaine. I'm no longer that baby penguin anymore." He joked in his attempt to break the silence.
Blaine had added a weekly gym workout for Kurt. It wasn't strenuous but just something extra to help raise Kurt's strength. They had decided that Mondays were upper body days and Wednesdays were lower days. Blaine joined Kurt on the workout plan, however, his sets were more intense. He was used to working out, boxing to be exact. It helped him take out his frustration and he didn't mind the glorious results it had for his body. They both could tell that they were reaping the benefits of the workouts. Nothing over the top but enough to accentuate their natural beauty.
"That is a term I haven't heard in a while. You're my precious baby penguin." Blaine chuckled. "I still can't believe Burt had to give us that talk like that." He continued with his cheeks still pink from the lingering blush.
He remembered the day they coined that term. They were both fourteen years old and Blaine had slept over like he usually did. Except in this case Blaine had fallen asleep in Kurt's bed after a movie marathon. It was all innocent, of course. However, Burt had decided to walk in while the boys were changing. They never thought anything of it, they had known each other since they were young, and it was nothing new. Burt clearly thought the opposite when he walked into Kurt's bedroom to both young men in their underwear.
"It's not like we knew anything back then. I do appreciate Burt taking the time to talk to us separately." Blaine mentioned, laying back onto the bed as he thought about the memory.
"You knew more than I did. Remember when we were watching that movie and I had to ask you what was happening. Never have I ever been that embarrassed." Kurt revealed, grabbing a few more clothing items from his closet. "I still think the touch of the fingertips is as sexy as things get. It's about being intimate, not just getting off."
"What would you know about getting off?" Blaine toyed. He was testing the waters to see how comfortable their friendship had grown.
Kurt could feel the heat on his face as a deep red blush formed. "More than before, Blaine. I've been single for as long as I can remember. Now get your mind out of the gutter and help me close this suitcase." He motioned to his overfilled suitcase.
"I'm just curious. I know Ohio doesn't have many options. Let alone your condition getting in the way of romance." Blaine explained, hopping off the bed to help press down the suitcase as Kurt zipped it up. "I want you to get everything you dreamed of. I really do. And I know I wasn't much help being glued to your hip. I probably had boys running away when we were younger."
"I don't think it was our assumed relationship they were running from, Blaine." Kurt said as he set the suitcase on the ground. He sat on the bed, letting out a sigh as he landed down. He had worked up a sweat packing. He usually got winded quite easily but with the workouts, he had better control. "Besides we didn't have anyone nearly as interesting around us."
Blaine moved to lay beside him, resting on his side with his elbow propped up to look at him. "We always had and will have each other."
So the next chapter with be Klaine off to their mystery trip. Any guesses? I'm going to have the chapter posted by this weekend. I have part of it written already so it should be on time. Thank you for all the support.
