Chapter 12
Solana Vakarian
September 4th, 2190
I sat at a small patio table outside my favorite diner, my meal half-eaten and forgotten on the plate, and my kava cool to the touch. I was zoned out, staring straight ahead, battling the thoughts racing around in my head, paying no mind to the pedestrians walking by.
"Hey, Sol. What's up?" Garrus said, pulling out the chair and sitting down.
I blinked myself back into the present. "Hey. Sorry, I didn't see you come in."
"No worries, I was just on my way to Dad's to pick up Gaius and Octavia," Garrus sat back in the chair, relaxing before noticing how troubled I was. "Is something wrong?"
I pushed my food around with a talon, "... I need advice." I paused for a second, expecting teasing from my older brother, but it never came. Garrus sat very still, his face very serious, waiting for me to elaborate. "Sentia asked me to move in."
"I'm not sure what you want me to tell you, Sol."
"I want you to tell me it's okay to do it…." I replied, fighting back a keen.
"Why wouldn't it be? You love her. She loves you. I don't see the problem here."
"It just… makes it so official. How do I know she is the one for me? How did you know Amelia was for you?"
Garrus sighed, staying silent for a minute. "It isn't something you can quantify. You just know. Ten years ago, if you told me what my life would be like now, I'd escort you to the medbay for a brain scan, and now, I don't want to think about who I'd be without her." I was silent in thought for a moment, "She is good for you, and I think you are good for her. If you want to spend the rest of your life with her, do everything you can to make it happen."
My subharmonics broke, and I let out a quiet whimper. "Thanks, Garrus."
"Anytime, Sol." He placed his hand atop mine, giving it a light squeeze, "I'm proud of you."
