Past is Prologue:
Alarms rang throughout the newly submerged city-ship of Atlantis. It had been a century since the war against the Wraith began and not only had the Lanteans been pushed back to Atlantis but were overwhelmed to the point that the high council had declared the war to be lost and order all Lanteans to gather at Atlantis so they could abandon the Pegasus galaxy. As the evacuations began Janus sighed knowing that there was nothing to be done for Atlantis and Pegasus other than the failsafes he programmed into the cities computers ahead of time. He prepared to leave through the Stargate as his mind went briefly to the small group ready to leave after the group inbound to Terra had evacuated. This group was inbound to a planet in a different quadrant of the Milky Way galaxy, they called this planet Caliburn. The two brothers who led this group: Jacob and Wilhelm, had convinced the high council to take their subordinates to Caliburn instead of Terra so they could pursue research into potential means of combating the Wraith so that either the Lanteans or, if the worst came to pass, their human descendents could one day reclaim both Atlantis and Pegasus from the worst mistake they as a species had made.
The younger brother, Wilhelm, had already achieved enhanced abilities that could be only referred to as magic and was planning to give the seed of Caliburn the ability to use this upon their twelfth year of life. The elder brother had also achieved a means of defense against not just Wraith feeding but other forms of physical damage as well which he called aura. The brothers and their group would be taking with them four artifacts crafted by the first Lanteans when they were preparing to journey to Pegasus nearly a millennium ago when Terra was the only world populated by their people also referred to as Alterans. These artifacts were first used to seed life through the Alteran worlds in the MIlky Way and then their worlds in Pegasus when Atlantis was first built, now those four artifacts would be going to Caliburn.
"Janus" the leader of the high council called breaking Janus out of his thoughts "It's time to leave" Janus nodded in acknowledgment and gave a respectful nod to the brothers and their group before following his brothers and sisters to Terra in sorrow of the suffering that the Wraith would surely bring to the Pegasus galaxy in the years to follow.
Thousands of years later
A young boy fled into the woods of Patch as a massive Grimm attack took the island by surprise. His name was Drake Rose and he had been out training in hand to hand fighting with his mother, Summer Rose, when the attack began. Desperately trying to make his way home as his mother held back the attack he made sure his aura was raised. It was unusual for someone as young as he was to have their aura unlocked being only eleven years old (traditionally he would have had his aura unlocked at twelve and started at Signal when he was fourteen) his cousin, Yang Xiao-Long was only six and his sister Ruby Rose had just turned three. However, due to him being a genius determined to do everything he could to help others he was already in accelerated courses and was well into his second year at Signal, at his present course he would be Beacon's youngest student around the time he was fifteen if not younger.
He cursed himself for leaving his weapon at home as his mother had insisted he needed to be sure he could defend himself without it. In Summer's defense, she couldn't have known about this attack. Suddenly a beowolf hurled itself at Drake who jumped to the side to avoid it only for the ground beneath him to collapse. As Drake braced himself he was able to quickly get to his feet after landing at the bottom of the sinkhole, unfortunately the beowolf fell in with him. Drake saw that he was in a tunnel and ran away from the beowolf, he was good with his weapon but hadn't quite gotten the hang of fighting hand to hand yet. As he continued along the tunnel he noticed a fork ahead, running down the right side and into a side corridor on the left. Tripping on a stalagmite he felt the palm of his hand push down on a button as he hit the floor, a flash of light shined and the beowolf caught up only to find that his prey had vanished.
Meanwhile in the ascended plane, Janus walked up to Wilhelm and Jacob as they witnessed the events on Patch.
"I see one of the Tau'ri has discovered the device the two of you used to flee Aegis after the rebellion of Salem" Janus spoke as he shook his head at the thought of that woman "damn witch is an Ori in all but official status."
"We repurposed the same potentia that I had used when creating the Grimm pools to make our final leave of the planet" Wilhelm sighed remembering his greatest failure. The Grimm had originally been intended to act as a disposable horde to be used for rapid deployment against the Wraith (both on land and to beam aboard their warships), due to an incident that killed the Lanteans that went to Caliburn along with the brothers the Grimm pools spread rapidly and it was only thanks to a defense field powered by a separate potentia that the Grimm were contained in the land of darkness until the day that Salem attempted to usurp the brothers. When Wilhelm destroyed the rebels he depleted that potentia so he could lock the part of the Tau'ri genome that was capable of using magic down so that the only way it could be usable would be either transference, inheritance through specific bloodlines (which wouldn't be possible unless someone who could use magic had children of their own), or through the same natural progression that Wilhelm had initially discovered the power with during the war in Pegasus.
"The potentia powering the device we used to flee to Terra was depleted after my direct descendent pressed that button. Until the Tau'ri living on both Terra and Caliburn, or Earth and Remnant as they are now known, discover each other. Drake Rose is stranded on our former capital world." Jacob reported as the three of them continued to watch the universe in their immortal forms.
A few brief notes, first John Sheppard is being replaced with Drake Rose. In this story Qrow Branwen is married to Summer Rose and they have Drake and Ruby eight years apart from each other. The events of Volume 3 of RWBY won't take place until Team RWBY's second Vytal festival during their third year. Finally, while first contact between Remnant and Earth will be public knowledge to Remnant when it eventually happens, Earth's general population will not be made aware until The Siege takes place.
