Note; the characters are around 16/17. (Casper about 17, Thatch about 17.)

Also, this takes place after the Glasses fic, and before the Babysitting fic.

The class was sent on a "expedition" for the lesson today. The class was split up into teams of two and sent out to search the island for specific items, each team being given a basket and a list. Normally, Casper would team up with Ra and Mantha, but Mr burns refused to let Thatch be on a team of one.

The last time he let a student go off on his own, he went missing. Alder and Dash gave Burns such a chewing out for it.

It had taken three days and six search parties to find Mosshead…

So, Thatch and Casper found themselves out in the woods having to search for what they were 99% sure was just ingredients to some dragon strew. (to clarify a stew for a dragon, not made of dragons. This is Mr Burns, not Chase Young.)

Thatch crossed his arms and leaned on a tree. "This is stupid."

Casper sighed; "So I guess you're gonna just let me do all the gathering, huh?"

"Yep." The vampire answered dryly.

Casper sighed again in annoyance, kneeling down to pick up a mushroom. After placing it in his basket and standing back up, he smiled.

"Actually, I kind of like this assignment. I like plants and gardening." He looked around for more of the items on the list.

"Whatever." Thatch answered rudely.

The ghost frowned again. It seemed that Thatch wasn't even going to chat with him.

Casper continued gathering items, the vampire following him boredly. It took a bit of searching, but they finally came across a clearing containing the last item; Blood blossoms. The little meadow contained dozens of blood blossom bushes, the rose like plants looking rather pretty against their black thorned bushes.

"Ok, Thatch, you're going to have to gather these last plants."

The vampire looked over with a scowl. "Why can't you get them?"

"Because their blood blossoms, they release vapors into the air that can kill phantoms in large doses. And that's a whole field of them. I'm already standing closer than I'd like…" Casper explained, getting a little tired about Thatch's attitude.

"So I guess you ghosts have your own kind of garlic, huh? Alright, give me the scissor thingies." The vampire huffed as he walked over.

"Sheers."

"Whatever."

Thatch took the basket and walked into the meadow and began cutting some flowers…or at least he tried. The stems of the flowers were very tough; it was like trying to cut through a tree branch…with kiddy scissors.

"Damn, couldn't you have brought something tougher these these?" The vampire snapped over his shoulder at the other.

"Those were the ones that Burns passed out!" Casper shouted back.

Thatch finally managed to cut one off, he stuck the flower in his jacket pocket and then tossed the jacket into the basket.

"Why'd you do that?" the ghost raised a brow?

"You said the fumes were deadly to you." The vampire shrugged, as if it were obvious.

The vampire picked up a rock and started sharpening the scissors on it. There was no way he was gonna get anymore flowers with them being this dull.

Suddenly a thorned vine wrapped around Thatchs wrist and started trying to pull him into the thicket. He yelped in surprise and dropped the sheers. He grimaced as the thorns drew blood.

"Thatch!" Casper rushed over and started trying to get the vine off of him, but the plant was latched on tight.

The ghost grabbed the vine and proceeded to freeze it solid. It shattered as Thatch pulled on it again. They stumbled back and onto the ground.

Casper felt so woozy, and his body started to hurt all over. Just then another vine came out of the bush and wrapped around the ghosts leg, and started to pull him into the thicket.

"Crap!" Thatch looked around frantically for a weapon. He leapt for the sheers and proceeded to repeatedly stab the vine with them. After a couple of stabs, the vine ripped. He quickly grabbed Casper and ran.

Thatch leaned the ghost against a tree, he was still unconscious. The vampire turned his attention to the others leg, which still had what was left of the vine wrapped around it, the thorns drawing blue blood. He carefully unwrapped it and then tossed it aside.

"Casper, wake up." He started shaking the ghost's shoulders. "Come on, wake up!"

Casper started to stir and opened his eyes groggily. Thatch leaned back and sighed in relief. The

"What happ-" the ghost started to move, but leaned back with a pained hiss as the injury finally hit him.

They sat there a moment and absorbed what just happened.

"Thank you…" The vampire mumbled tiredly.

"Huh?" Casper looked over and raised a brow.

"For freezing the vine…thanks…"

The ghost looked sadly at the ground. "I'm pretty sure I just made it worse…I fainted from the fumes and you had to save me…"

"Well…I still mean it...thanks…" Thatch mumbled tiredly. He then turned his attention back to the others leg. "Shit…you need a hospital." He grimaced.

Casper looked at his leg for a moment. "Yeah…probably." He responded tiredly. The ghost then noticed Thatchs wrist. "You're hurt too.." he pointed at it.

The vampire looked at his wrist, it was bleeding and still had a bit of vine wrapped around it. He grimaced and unwrapped it from his arm, throwing it with the other discarded vine.

"Ok, let's get going then." Thatch got up from the ground, he was rather surprised to see Casper trying to stand up as well. "What are you doing?!" the vampire hissed at him.

"Well I got to get up, I'm too light headed to fly. I have to walk, how else-" the ghost was cut off as Thatch very literally swept him off his feet. He blushed wildly.

The vampire rolled his eyes. "Moron, I wasn't going to make you walk."

"Oh…" Casper peeped, internally panicking. He felt like he was full of butterflies.

Thatch began heading back to the school, he tried to run but it hurt Caspers leg too much, so he was forced to take his time. Thatch didn't seem too bothered about carrying the ghost, meanwhile Casper was having an internal panic attack.

"This is fine, this is fine, this is fine, this is fine-" Casper told himself. Then the vampire adjusted his hold on him, making the ghost lean on him more. "NOT FINE, NOT FINE-"

"So was that plant also a blood blossom?" Thatch asked.

Casper snapped to attention "Uh, I'm not sure. I've never heard of one being able to do that, but with magic plants, who knows."

It was just then that the ghost fully realized what had happened. He had almost died…again. And Thatch, a bully who seeming hated him, saved him. He had saved his life. Afterlife? unlife? Whatever, the point is, Thatch cares. At least a little bit.

Casper suddenly felt very giggly and very happy. The ghost looked up at the vampire smittenly. Maybe it was just the blood loss, but Thatch looked kind of cute. Casper had thought that when he saw the other wearing glasses, but even without them he was still pretty good looking.

Thatch adjusted his hold on the ghost again, bouncing him a bit as he did. It would have hurt his leg, if he hadn't enjoyed it a little too much…

"Sorry, I'm not used to carrying people..." The vampire muttered sheepishly.

"It's ok." Casper answered quietly, still very smitten. "And please do that again~" he giggled to himself.

Yep, definitely a little out of it from the blood loss.

"Are you ok?" You're acting a little weird all the sudden." The vampire raised a brow.

Casper snapped out of it and smiled sheepishly. "I'm just tired."

There was a moment of silence

"You know…It's kind of weird that Mr Burns put Blood Blossoms on our list. The group with a ghost in it…" Thatch spoke up, sounding a bit uneasy.

"Yeah…he likely didn't know." The ghost answered quietly.

"He's a science teacher."

"He also doesn't understand a lick of human biology."

"True, but still. You think maybe he did it on purpose?" the vampire raised a brow.

Casper thought about for a moment before chuckling.

"I'm serious!" Thatch snapped.

"I know, but…I'm not worth the effort. It would be really risky to try and kill a student, and I'm simply not worth the stress." The ghost chuckled with a bittersweet smile.

"I'm not worth the effort.." Thatch frowned and suddenly felt bad, but he shook it off. He was a tough scary vampire. Vampires didn't feel compassion, and he sure as hell didn't care for this little, sweet, adorable phantom in his arms. Nope, didn't care at all. No cares or feelings what so ever. As sure as da nile was a river in Russia...

Eventually they got to the school, Alder and Dash were waiting on the steps, looking rather displeased. Casper had expected Thatch to set him down on the steps, but he didn't.

"Where have you two been?! You were supposed to be here 30 minutes ago!" Dash snapped.

"We got attacked by some monster plant!" Thatch snapped.

"Oh, really? Have any evidence?" Dash smirked.

Casper frowned and glared at the ground. He didnt think he could hate somebody, but Dash made him question that sometimes.

"Yeah, his messed up leg!" the vampire growled, and adjusted his hold on the phantom so the wound was actually visible.

The headmaster cringed. "Owch." Alder muttered.

"Well, I suppose that is definitely proof…" Dash added. "Ok, take him to the nurse."

Thatch looked shocked, and then angry. "The nurse?! He needs a hospital!"

"Don't be stupid. Ghosts heal incredibly fast, he'll be fine by tomorrow." Dash assured.

"His leg is a trypophobias worst nightmare!"

"We said take him to the nurse, now do it or we'll give you a week's detention for arguing!" Dash snapped back.

Thatch snapped his jaw shut and glared at the headmaster.

"Fine." The vampire growled through clenched teeth.

"That's a good student, now run along." Dash waved him off and headed back to his office.

Thatch walked up the stairs and into the building to find Mantha, Ra, Slither, Dummy Girl, and a few other students, waiting for them. They all approached.

"Why are you holding that los-" Dummy Girl stopped mid-sentence when she saw the state of Caspers leg. "Oh…my god…" She muttered with a freaked out expression.

"Casper!" Mantha yelled with worry as she and Ra ran over. "What did you do to him!" She snapped at Thatch, who looked very pissed off at the implication.

"I didn't do this! If I had, I wouldn't be carrying him!" the vampire hissed.

"Mantha, I'm fine, honest." Casper muttered tiredly.

"No, no you're not." She looked at him with extreme worry.

"Where are you taking him anyways?" Ra raised a brow with worry.

"To the docks, then Cap can take him to a hospital." Thatch answered a matter of factly, then he headed for said docs, Mantha and Ra following behind.

"Alder and Dash said to take me to the nurse." The ghost muttered.

"I am. Hospitals have nurses." The vampire dead panned.

"You're going to get in trouble."

"It's what I live for." Thatch responded simply. "Besides, those two can go suck a dick." He muttered coldly.

"Language." Casper scolded quietly.

"I guess in their case it would have to be plural." Ra added with a laugh, earning a snicker from Thatch.

The ghost groaned in annoyance. "Don't encourage him."

Soon enough they got down to the docks, and explained the situation to Cappy.

The vampire set Casper down on one of the benches. The ghost felt bizarrely cold all of the sudden…he missed being held…

Mantha and Ra sat down next to Casper, him sandwiched in between them. Thatch sort of looked like he was lost.

"I guess, you two can manage this…" He frowned. "I guess I'll just…go" Thatch mumbled hesitantly.

"Wait!" Casper grabbed the vampires arm, who turned and looked at him. The ghost blushed and realized he needed an excuse. "Your wrist, you should let a doctor look at it."

"Yeah, it could get infected." Mantha added.

"I'll go to the nurse, it'll be fine." Thatch shrugged it off and started to leave.

He gave a slight wave as he turned around, and left the ship.
