Chapter 1
My name is Lily Evans Potter, and today is the most beautiful day of my life.
Today, I saved my son. Today, I gave hundreds of people a night of calm, of joy. Today, I sacrificed myself.
This isn't sad. When I last looked at my son, it was my whole life I saw, reflected in his eyes. Like a mirror. Like a hope.
I'm not sad to die. I've had a wonderful life. I know my sacrifice was
selfish. That some people still needed me. But above all things, they
needed my son. They needed Harry Potter.
However, at the moment the sun set to let this Halloween night take his
place, I knew it was time for me to accomplish this ultimate act of
love, to let my son take my place. To save the world. Even for a split
second.
I will never regret this Halloween night.
Because before the sun sets, I've had a wonderful life.
