Tony had been tossing and turning for hours. Everytime he closed his eyes he heard Angela saying that she couldn't stay and watch Singing In The Rain with him because she had a date with Andy. It had broken his heart seeing her leave to go spend time with another man. But, he told himself it wasn't anything less than he deserved considering all he had put her through the last few months.

What had he been thinking these past months? He still didn't understand. Maybe he never would. All he knew was that he missed her. He missed how they used to be. He missed how they would talk about their day over a cup of tea. But they hadn't done that in months. Ever since…well it was obvious the last time they did. Before he had upended their relationship over another woman. A woman he knew from the start he would never have any feelings for.

How could he when he already had feelings for Angela?

He finally realized he wasn't going to get any sleep that night so he decided to go downstairs and make some tea. He got up and headed downstairs and entered the kitchen. He filled the tea pot and turned on the burner and waited for the water to heat up.

Angela had done everything she could think of to fall asleep. She had taken a warm bath, she had counted sheep, she had done some stretches but nothing seemed to work. She finally realized it was futile. She was tired but her mind was racing over everything that had happened that day. Tony had broken up with Kathleen! She couldn't believe it when he told her. She thought for sure that their relationship was becoming much more serious considering the fact that he had met her Father. When she found out she felt like someone had punched her in the stomach. There was only one reason you introduced the person you are dating to your parents. And the mere thought had caused a shiver to go through her.

But, instead they had broken up. Because of college, work, and 'things.' 'Things' Her heart had lifted slightly when he had said that and glanced in her direction. But a few moments later she had to break his when she told him that she couldn't stay and watch Singing In The Rain because she had a date with Andy. She hated doing so but it had been the only fair thing she could do.

She decided to give up trying to get some sleep and decided to go downstairs and have some tea. But, thinking of tea only reminded her of Tony and their late night talks. She missed them. She missed catching up on their respective days. They hadn't done it in months. Ever since…well she didn't want to think about that.

It was much too painful.

She got up and went downstairs and entered the kitchen where she saw Tony standing by the stove.

"Tony!"

Tony turned around. He couldn't believe she was here. He had just been thinking about how much he had missed talking with her over a cup of tea and here she was. Was this just a coincidence or fate?

Angela couldn't believe he was here. She had just been thinking about how much she had missed going over their day over a cup of tea. And here he was. Was some higher power at work here?

"Hi Angela. I guess neither one of us could sleep." he chuckled nervously.

"I guess not." she smiled.

At that moment the teapot whistled and Tony removed it from the burner.

"Would you like some tea?"

"That is actually what I came down for."

"Me too. Great minds huh?"

"It seems like it." She walked over and grabbed two mugs from the cupboard while he grabbed two tea bags from the canister. They each fixed their own cup and sat down at the table.

For a few minutes they sat in silence sipping their tea. They had both missed doing this and didn't want anything to spoil the peace they both felt at the moment. A peace that had been ripped from them because of a stupid decision he had made. A peace he was determined they would get back again.

"You know I've missed this."

"I have too."

"Yeah, I was just thinking about all those nights we would spend over a cup of tea talking about our day."

"So was I. "

"Yeah, it's been a long time."

"It has." she said quietly not wanting to think or even mention why.

He nodded. There was no reason to remind either one of them about the last time they had shared a cup of tea together. They both knew since it had been such an awkward and painful time in their lives.

"So how was your date with Andy?"

"It was good." And it had been. But, she had spent the night thinking of Tony. She had hated herself and knew it wasn't fair to Andy but she couldn't help herself. She was so relieved. She had felt like a giant weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

"That's good. I'm glad you had a good time."

"Thanks."

"You're welcome."

"Tony.."

"Angela.."

They both laughed and he mentioned for her to go first.

"I guess I just wanted to know if you're really okay. I know breaking up with someone hurts so I just want you to know that I'm here."

She wanted to let him know that she was here. After all the crap he had put her through. After he had basically thrown the relationship they had been building in the garbage because he couldn't face up to his feelings for her. She tells him that she is here for him.

After he had broken her heart she was still here for him.

"Actually Angela, I'm not doing so well."

"You're not?"

"No, in fact I'm miserable."

That was the last thing she expected or wanted to hear. She had been hoping he would have said he felt relief. She knew she was being selfish and unfair but knowing that he felt miserable about breaking up with Kathleen cut her to the core.

"Oh well. Then maybe you could call Kathleen later and talk things over?" While it pained her to suggest it she hated seeing him so down. And if getting back with Kathleen would make him happy, well she would deal with it.

"No, Angela, I'm not miserable because of Kathleen. I know breaking up with her was the right thing to do. I'm miserable because of you. "

"Me?"

"Yes, I know I've hurt you. I know I've screwed up."

"Tony, there's something I need to ask you."

"Okay, What is it?"

"Why?"

He didn't need to ask her what she meant. He had been thinking about why ever since he had started dating Kathleen.

"Angela, I know we have never talked about it after that night in your office. We just let it sit there like the elephant in the room. And I have spent many days and nights wondering about why I had done what I did. And the thing is I guess I'm scared."

"You're scared?"

"Yes, of our relationship changing. "

"Our relationship has been changing for years."

"You're right. We're not the same people we used to be."

"Far from it."

"Yeah, I know I told you in Jamaica that I've thought of us getting married…"

"That's what I don't understand. If you thought of us getting married then how could you?" she felt her eyes filling with tears. He noticed and got up and tore off a couple pieces of paper towels and handed them to her. She nodded her thanks and he sat back down.

"Angela, I wish I could give you an answer. I wish I could say something that would make you feel better. But, I guess it was like I said. I'm scared. Our relationship is the most special thing in the world to me. And if we took the next step and it didn't work out it would destroy me."

"So you decided to sleep with Kathleen and then tell me that you didn't know if it was over with her?!" she asked, her eyes flashing.

He nodded. "And instead I risked what we had been building. I risked it all over another woman. And now you're dating Andy and I have no one to blame but myself."

Angela sighed. She wanted to assure him that he was wrong but the truth was he wasn't. If he hadn't started dating Kathleen she wouldn't be dating Andy now. They both knew they were in the place they were because of the choice he had made months earlier in the hotel room. There was nothing they could do about it, The past was the past. All they could do now was see what the future held.

"So, I guess you spent the evening watching Singing In The Rain?"

"Actually, I didn't. I just wasn't in the mood anymore."

"Would you like to watch it now?"

He looked at her in astonishment. "Really? I mean it's late."

"You're right it is. But, neither one of us can sleep so why not?"

"Okay, sure let's go." He grabbed both of their mugs and rinsed them out and put them in the dishwasher.

"So shall we?" he smiled.

She smiled back and went into the living room.

"One day at a time Micelli. One day at a time." he told himself and followed her into the living room.
