Chapter 4: Baxter Settling In
Hello and welcome to a new chapter that ties to this story and not to the plot of Gravity Falls. This is going to be Baxter's first day at the Hazbin Hotel and at the Mystery Shack.
It's going to be a short one so don't be too disappointed.
Anyone knows that feeling of waking up in a soft cozy bed in the morning and not waking up on a hard and cramp floor? Well that's how it felt for Baxter waking up in his own room at the Hazbin Hotel the next morning.
Looking around the room, it took a moment for Baxter to realize that he's in one of the many rooms in Charlie's hotel and not in the crazy old man's lake monster robot.
Getting out of bed, Baxter went over to the closet and pull out a bathrobe to wear over his borrowed night clothes. Charlie was kind enough to lend him some spare clothes until his were washed and dry in the night so that they'll be ready in the morning, and when Baxter opens the door one of Charlie's demon helpers, Razzle, hands him his now fresh clean clothes. "Thank you, please tell Charlie I really appreciate it." Said Baxter as he takes his clothes to his room and came back with a reasonable tip, before shutting the door.
Once he was dressed, Baxter made his way down to the main Lobby where everyone, minus Stan and Soos, is hanging out and having bit of last call for breakfast while Charlie was waiting for him. "Oh, good morning Baxter. Hope you slept well, I'd save you some breakfast." Charlie shows him to the table that is set up for him. "Thank you, miss Charlie."
Taking his seat, Baxter ask her, "I must thank you again, Charlie. I don't know what would have happen while I was stuck in this town in a robot monster with a kooky old man." "Try not to think about it, for today. We're going to get ready for work, while each of us will explain as best as we can to you one at a time." Said Charlie, "But is it really okay to let these kids here to know about us demons existing?" Baxter asked while looking very concern about the twins being here with them.
But no one was worried, "Bax, don't sweat it. They were there when it happened and found us." Angel explained partly of what happened, "It's true. The ground was shaking, and the skies turned stormy. But then it just suddenly stopped, and when we headed back to the shack, this hotel was standing here." Dipper cleared out the rest of what happened. "And since we've landed on Stan's property line, the old man lied to a butch of tourist that the hotel is part of his attraction." Said Vaggie.
Baxter understood from yesterday's even that Stan Pines owns a tourist attraction, The Mystery Shack, and that the Hotel was only a few yards away. "For the time being." Charlie starts off, "Dipper and Mabel's great Uncle Stan made a deal with us. We kept our deed to the Hotel in exchange for work at his tourist attraction and their services at our hotel."
"But what about my stay? I don't have enough to pay for the whole summer." Baxter said in concerned worried, Charlie rest a hand on his shoulder, "You could help around our hotel and at the shack as payment and as for the room you're free to sign up for our redemption program. We offer a free room for first time patients." Baxter looks up at Charlie, "This is... too good to be true." Was his reply, "Do take your time to think it over." Said Charlie, "In the meantime, why don't you hang out with us and see how we do work around here just to get the feel of it and think of where you can help out."
Mabel cuts chimes in, "Plus we can show you around town and do some shopping!" everyone turns to the beaker design sweater wearing girl, "Mabel, we already have enough stuff already." Said Dipper, "I just thought that Baxter would like to have more clothes? Plus, I kind of need more yarn, different colors of yarn, only five or six." Mabel explains her idea.
Everyone shrugged and voiced their comments saying, "It's true, I do need some extra clothes." "I don't see any harm in that." "Okay, but not a whole lot though."
And so, Dipper and Mabel took Baxter through town that morning run.
Time Skip
It was 2 in the afternoon when the trio came back, the trip into town wasn't bad to what Baxter thought it would be. He found some clothing that he likes, vintage yet modern, and that he and Dipper both enjoy science. Though it was hard to find some actual beakers and chemical formulas from the periodic table, so it's best to work with what they got. And Mabel showed him the fun of art, though it wasn't really his thing, but he couldn't deny that using science to make art is fun and showing Mabel that it's also fun made this day a pleasant one.
Now Baxter is helping with Soos with some new attractions to make them more interesting by mixing with some Compressed CO2 and add water in a cup or bucket. In other words, dry ice in water makes fake fog. "Dude, this science-y stuff is awesome!" Said Soos as he puts the finishing touches to the water monster sprite, "Well, I'm glad I can be of use here." "There's always a place for everyone here at the Mystery Shack, Dawg." Said Soos as he smiles to Baxter, who then says, "Though, I do wish to create more experiments." "I'm sure you'll get the chance." Soos reassures him, thinking that the experiments are more for the shack. When in reality, Baxter was thinking of them being more of a deadly toxic poison. But due to the hotel's policy, he can't make any deadly chemicals that could kill people or the forest.
Not to mention with children so close, and noises all around, it would be impossible to get any work done. Soon Baxter was remembering his conversation he had back at the cave and with Charlie yesterday.
Niffty finding him in a small section of the robot, finding out that the people who found him are from hell too, except for Soos, Dipper and Mabel, and that princess of hell is here too. And the night after the fishing boat ride, Charlie told him last night after dinner, "I know today came and went so fast, but this hotel project of yours. Do you really think sinners would be able to be redeemed?" Charlie gave him a thoughtful and kind look and said, "I do believe everyone deserves a second chance to prove that they can do better." 'Even for someone like me?' he thought, and afterwards he was escorted to his new room for the night.
Coming out of his memory lane, Baxter look to see the time is now 4:00 p.m. Which means it was "Closing time! Do-doo-doo." Soos announces, as he starts putting most of the materials of fake attractions away. Baxter helps out by taking his chemicals and equipment back to his room locked and key, safe, secured and far away from troublemakers like Angel or Mabel. Baxter did hear from Vaggie that Angel likes to pull pranks and Dipper told that Mabel can be a very hyperactive girl who makes a juice out of everything that is cute, fun, and sweet. So, with his chemicals out in the open it'll be chaos for everyone if they do get their hands on them.
When dinner time came, Alastor was making everyone Crawfish Étouffée and Stan was making some kind of side dish salads. While they were busy getting food ready in the kitchen, Baxter walks over to Charlie, who was playing a little board game with the twins, "Charlie, may I talk to you for a moment?" Baxter asked, "Sure." She got up from her seat and said to Dipper and Mabel, "I'll be right back, don't move my piece." And walks over to the corner with Baxter, "So, what do you want to talk about?" Charlie asked.
Baxter breaths in and out, before saying something that took Charlie by surprise.
"I would like to sign up for your rehabilitation program."
It was the best day for everyone.
I did say it was short, I was hoping to have it done and posted yesterday but that didn't happen do to some writer's block and assignments to work on for college classes.
Crawfish Étouffée - is a dish found in both Cajun and Creole cuisine typically served with shellfish over rice.
I'm glad to know that you guys are really loving this story, and you are throwing some ideas for how the story should or could go. But remember, I'M the one in control. I'M the one who writes the story. And most importantly, I AM the one who decides what to do with the plot of the story.
But I do like a few of your suggestions, and just to let you know. What I write could be what I have already had in mind to put down and that some of you might have had the same idea as me.
So until then, Ja ne.
