Webhead volume 32
'i can't believe I'm graduating high school at the end of the week! Where does the time go?! George was promoted back to captain after what happened, I've been keeping my distance though. It's better this way.'
In the middle of June at midtown high it's the last day of classes for the year, seniors graduation ceremony is at the end of the week. The day has only just begun but after first period ends for our arachnid based hero his teacher calls him over. 'he's probably gonna tell at me and tell me I'm not able to graduate.' "mister parker both you and miss stacy were once my best students but over the past two years something changed in you and you became one of my worst, you tested my patience time and time again. You also impressed me many times over, I'll remember you as one of my favorite students and I know you'll go on to do great things Peter." The history professor said to the young man before him, whom had assumed Mister warren downright hated but apparently didn't. 'i always thought mister warren had it in for me but I guess he was just looking for me to live up to my potential…'
During the first half of that school day a red headed girl with jade green eyes is sitting in the office across town of the New York City bulletin, she tried the bugle and the globe but jameson was just a dick and the globe told her to get some old school experience first so here she is at a dying newspaper business waiting to see if she can do just that. After about another minute an older african american man with glasses, a bit of a beard and dressed in a nice dress shirt and tie walks over to her. "Mary jane watson? I'm ben urich, I'll be your papa bear around here. You'll be acting more like an intern than a cub but welcome to the bulletin."
By lunch harrys curiosity on the ginger girls whereabouts had reached an all time high but the girl just plopped her tray down at their usual table like nothing out of the ordinary. The lunch table was made up of flash, Liz, glory, kong, jessica, Cindy, harry, gwen, Peter and now MJ herself, many of which were discussing where they'll be in the fall. "Am I the only one here that's gonna be in england?" Jess questioned a bit timidly, it seems she's finally learned to not be so blunt and hostile all the time. Apparently glory and kong will be going to ohio state, Cindy was going to UCLA. "I thought I'd join Liz at ESU at least for a semester first before maybe going into the army." Eugene flash thompson declared to the table of soon to be graduates. With all the different schools mentioned gwen spoke up about the inevitable. "With so many of us going to different schools all over I guess that's it for the mary janes…?" As she drooped her head down somberly but MJ didn't seem too bothered even though the band was originally her idea.
Over at the police station it was a mess, over the last few weeks both yuri and george have been trying to filter out the kingpins corruption the best they could but no matter what they couldn't get over jeans' death. "Stacy?" The middle aged asian chief called out to the recently reappointed captain "you've always believed in what Spider-man is doing no matter how much I was on your ass about it. How come?" Yuri questioned desperately to try and figure out where she stands now on the masked crusader. "I trust the kid, I truly believe he's helping this city and feel it's my responsibility to do what I can for him. What's bringing this on yuri?" The gruff cop that's been through hell asked sensing her struggle. "I'm just not sure what to think anymore george….. about Spider-man." She told him before heading off elsewhere.
The bell had rung, the school year was over and Peter parker was officially done with high school but as he, harry and gwen were leaving the building together they ran into their younger friend miles morales. "So you guys are really moving on huh… I'll tell you it's gonna be really weird next year without you but hey let's keep in touch, maybe hang out over the summer or something?" The sophomore soon to be junior suggested to his older friends. It was Peter who spoke up for the others in response "of course buddy, we'll always be friends miles." But almost immediately after peter's phone rang with a video call from the bugle 'the bugle is calling me? I guess I still have a job then…' "uhhh… hello?" He answered hesitantly "PARKER! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN LATELY?! NEVERMIND THAT YOU'VE GOT CHECKS WAITING HERE BUT FIRST THINGS FIRST YOU NEED TO HEAD OVER TO THE RAFT AND MEET UP WITH LEEDS! APPARENTLY SOMETHING BIG IS GOING ON DOWN THERE!" beep beep beep. When pete tried to leave for his new assignment harry stopped him "need some backup buddy?" The young osborn was honestly pretty sick of Peter always sidelining him. "For now this is a job for Peter parker but I'll call you if anything changes" he told his wealthy best friend and super hero partner before giving gwen a kiss and heading off.
When Peter got to the raft the only thing going on was the transfer of several prisoners into the facility courtesy of oscorp…. 'oh no.' Peter was frantically searching through the crowd looking for his jerky co worker but found not just ned but betty and even eddie for some reason. The older disheveled man's face lit up in amazement and confusion "pete you squirt! What are you doing here?! I thought jameson fired you a few months ago?" "Well if he did he unfired me bro. What's been going on with you eddie? We've never really gotten the chance to catch up." "Yeah sorry about that. I've been in a tough spot for a while and after you told me what happened to your uncle… I guess it was just too much but I stop by and we'll catch up soon." The older man told his old nerdy friend before Peter separated himself from the bugle group and called george up. "Captain we may have trouble. Dock ock, electro, sandman, rhino, shocker, and vulture were just transferred to the raft by OSCORP." "Thanks for the heads up kid. I'm on my way over, if osborn's involved this is definitely gonna be trouble." The cop dad to his girlfriend told him before hanging up.
Sure enough less than five minutes later the green goblin flew in dropping bombs all over, freeing the sinister six prisoners and inciting a riot among the entire facility before taking off again. Once he's managed to change into his suit in the chaos he lands in front of the prison that's definitely seen better days just as a squad car pulls up behind him containing captain george stacy and chief yuri watanabe. The woman gets out of the car drawing her gun before looking over at george and reluctantly deciding against her typical instinctual action. "Go. Do what you need to do Spider-man." She told him, almost smiling at him while saying it. With the chiefs blessing Spidey swung in webbing up any random prisoners he passed by on his way to where the sinister six were: the very center of the prison.
While the other five were just standing behind doc ock the short and stout former teacher was talking to what looked like the goblin 'so that's where you flew off to norman.' "while we're grateful for the early release, I do not take orders from anyone!" The scientist with the metal arms fused to him spoke with disgust to the green and purple maniac. "Oh no no no no doctor. I'm not truly giving you orders, merrily an invitation to go forth and cause as much chaos as possible particular against a certain red and blue pest. Hhaaahahaha!" The goblin laughed before flying off again. It was then our hero decided to start taking the six down, it didn't go as planned. By the time he got the sinister six down to the manageable three: doc ock, sandman and rhino, he had already taken down shocker and vulture with little effort but electro was harder, he was practically exhausted and his suit was very very torn up. Just as octavius had the super powered teen hoisted up in his tentacles mask torn apart with his black eye and bloody mouth showing the goblin knight as he was called by the media flew in to help finish off the remaining three villains. "I thought you were gonna call me if anything happened here! I got these guys dude! Go find my father! Go!" Harry screamed out to his friend both in anger and desperation.
After Spidey was in the prison for a substantial amount of time without any word george decided something was wrong and he needed to help so he went in after him much to the chiefs protests. After a while of navigating the likely to be debunked prison he stumbled upon the fight the webhead was having with the gruesome green goblin, but when the lunatic threw a pumpkin bomb headed straight for some unconscious prison guards george rushed over to save them in a split second, barely avoiding getting blown up himself. He was however thrown across the room into a wall from the blasts impact being so close. "Oh boy look who it is! Captain george stacy! You know I'm the reason your wife died georgy and now I get to kill you too! After all you really do like the stacy family don't you? Pete." The goblin taunted turning towards the wall crawler for the last part, finally revealing he knows the truth. Now with all cards on the table the goblin throws a pumpkin bomb that turns into some restraint device at the hero as long sharp metal blades shoot out the front of his glider. "Hey norman! I never really liked you, even before you went nuts and framed me. I always thought you were an arrogant dickhead with no concern for other people except now you're just a madman in high tech gear!" Captain stacy called out from his prone position against the wall sitting on the prison floor, clearly trying to distract the crazed CEO while Spider-man has a chance to escape the goblins device but unfortunately before he could get out norman rams the gliders blades right into georges' abdomen.
"Nooooooo! Captain stacy!?" The hero screamed out as he ripped the restraints off with such raw intensity, he lunges forward towards the goblin knocking him off the glider and seemingly unconscious. George is still alive but barely "Peter….?" "I'm right here sir…. You're… you're gonna be ok… I'm gonna get you outta here… I'm gonna get you help." He tells the greying cop mostly out of denial as he starts to try and pick up his bleeding and broken form "Peter stop it. We both know this is it." "Why'd you do it sir? He was going to kill me, why would you put yourself in the firing zone like that?" "Like you say: with great power comes great responsibility. I couldn't just wait outside while you fought in here, it was my responsibility to help. Take care of gwen, she's gonna need you even if she tries to push you away." The man says to our broken and miserable hero before taking his last breaths. "Aaawwwwww so sad, Gwen's gonna be awfully lonely without her dear old daddy around. Hey I know let's go pay her a visit right now! That way she won't have to miss him for long!" The goblin suddenly taunted while standing behind the web swinger fully conscious having watched the whole scene that just took place with twisted amusement.
Before the goblin had a chance to do anything else Peter turns around and just starts beating on him over and over again without restraint or mercy, backing him up against the opposite wall while continuing to pummel his stupid green rubber face mask that is until harry flew into the room having finally subdued the last half of the sinester six. "Spider-man stop! Please stop hitting him! You're going to kill him! Peter!" The young osborn called out as he desperately tried to pull his best friend away from his villainous father. Peter pointed over to captain stacy's dead body in the corner "look at what your father did harry! I'm sorry but there's nothing left of him in there anymore he's not your dad anymore! just a monster." "No! You said we'd help him! You promised me that you wouldn't let anything happen to him!" The wealthy young man screamed out despite the genuine anger he had towards norman for all he's done. While Peter and harry were arguing the goblin remotely called his glider to blow through all three of them together but 'spider sense' "harry look out!" He bellowed while driving towards him pushing them both out of the way, but not norman…. "Dad! Nooo!" He cried out in anguish before turning his fury upon his friend "what did you do?! We could have saved him! Go. Just leave us be. Goooooo!" He snapped as the battered hero finally did what he was asked.
By the time Spidey made it back outside the ransacked prison word of georges fate had already reached the chief, she was waiting by the entrance when the torn up and bleeding red and blue hero limped up towards her. Once he was able to stand up on his feet again yuri looked out at the scene before her finally making a decision. "I know it's been a rough night but it could have been much worse if not for you, you saved a lot of people here tonight, you contained the prisoners, you brought down the goblin. I have to admit I was wrong about you Spider-man and I'd be glad to have your help going forward." She told him as she meant every word before he found the strength to salute before swinging away.
Georges funeral was on that Wednesday, while normans is Thursday. At captain stacy's funeral gwen had broken down and unleashed several months worth of pent up anger at what's happened to her life "I know you want to help, I can see that but after everything… my dad… I just can't deal with it right now. We're done I'm sorry" she told him before storming away in tears. 'no matter what I do, no matter who I save the ones that matter to me will always be the ones I fail. Because of me both gwen and harry have to go on without a father."
The next day normans funeral was restricted to just harry and bernard houseman but Peter showed up anyway. "Hey harry. How you holding up?" He asked his friend with genuine sympathy despite normans criminal madness. "You killed my father Peter. From this day forward we are enemies, remember I know everything about you" the osborn heir stated coldly with practically zero emotion to his former friend. After losing what seems like everything Peter went to visit his uncle's grave to vent and determine if being spider-man is even worth all the pain it brings "I don't know what I'm doing uncle ben! Everyone I've tried to help just gets killed or hates me, sometimes I think all this would be easier if you were here but that's my fault too! I know with great power comes great responsibility but all it's done is bring me pain, this power, this responsibility it's just a curse. You understand right?" But at that exact moment it started to storm "please uncle ben I don't think I can do this anymore!" But the weather was only getting worse, he wasn't sure yet if he was going to quit or not but first he had a house call to make regardless.
Fisk tower, crime central headquarters of wilson fisk the kingpin of crime. Fisk was sitting at his desk looking at one of the many computer monitors in front of him when suddenly as he looks up Spider-man is standing before him, still in his nearly destroyed red and navy blue suit. "You planned this all didn't you.?" He asked the crime lord but In a tone of voice more like a statement than a question "in a perfect world you would have taken EACH OTHER out but this world is not perfect. Alas now with osborn's madness out of the way I'm once again free to run my empire, including my most recent acquisition: oscorp, that is if you'll consider coming to work for me….?" The large criminal exposited but of course our hero stood his ground deciding no matter what happens he can't ever quit. "I will never work for you. You will never control me kingpin NEVER!" He told him getting right up in his face before swinging away.
The following afternoon was graduation, everyone in his class showed up except harry. Everyone's name was called and they all went up to receive the diplomas, after the ceremony gwen was avoiding him, talking with Jessica and MJ. 'i guess she really meant it when she said it was over, why's MJ looking at me like that? It's almost like she's blaming me for georges' death too….' at that moment flash came up from behind and bare hugged the skinny hero "parker! I know we'll probably see each other in the fall but just in case we don't I want to say that I was a real dick to you for way too long but I'm glad we've gotten past it this year. Hey where's osborn today? And why'd gwen dump you out of nowhere? It's her dad isn't it? Don't worry Parker it's just the stages of grief right? Eventually you two will find your way back to each other. Later bro!" He went on before suddenly leaving waving as he did such. The only person left to come up to him at graduation was the woman who raised him since he was a toddler, his dear aunt may. "I'm so proud of you! If only ben or your parents could have seen this." She said the last part in a manner that was almost bitter, grabbing her face the young graduate told his aunt "hey look at me. As far as I'm concerned you and uncle ben are my parents so don't feel for a second like you're just a cheap replacement. I told you before aunt may YOU ARE my mother."
Later that night while sitting in his room in the rundown rented townhouse in queens Peter got a call on his spider phone from chief yuri watanabe, apparently Spider-man was no longer a wanted criminal and there's a new case the chief wants his spidery assistance with. "I'll be right there chief!" He tells her eagerly before swinging off in a newly made bright red and bright blue suit as opposed to the darker more burgundy and navy blue of his old suit. It's a brand new day for the city and our hero and despite all the recent tragedies things can only go up from here.
A/N: well there you have it: the season one finale of webhead. A lot will change Next season going forward but some things will still be about the same. I have big plans for this story despite how drunk I am when writing it. Until next time true believers!
