Chapter 71.

Mike was still in pain an hour later. Harvey had thought that the kid would fall asleep, but he hadn't. They hadn't talked that much more, but Harvey could tell that Mike was still awake, because he once in a while squirmed a little, and moved the hot water bottle to different places along his chest. Harvey wished that it was more he could do, but he couldn't figure out something else than just sit here together with the kid.

"No. It will probably pass soon." Mike had said when Harvey asked him about it.

"But you shouldn't be in pain like this."

"I don't want to go to the hospital though." Mike said.

"They would help you though." Harvey argued.

"You can help me."

"No, not like they can."

"Whatever." Mike closed his eyes as a way of end the conversation and Harvey kind of wanted to slap him a bit. Not that adding more pain would be a good idea.

Mike wouldn't move at all and moaned as Harvey had to get off the bed, for a quick trip to the bathroom. When Harvey got back, he forced Mike to take another pain killer and reheated the hot water bottle for him. Mike slept some while Harvey worked from the desk in his room. When the younger man was awake, he just laid where he was and stared out into the room. He barely answered when Harvey spoke to him. It just sucked to see him in pain like that. If Harvey had gotten to decide he would have taken the man to the hospital, but for now he felt like he needed to respect the man's wishes.

It was of course hard to see Mike like this though. Later that evening Harvey tried to get Mike to eat dinner, but he wouldn't. No matter how much Harvey tried Mike refused.

"I'm not going to eat, Harvey. I'm in a little bit of pain right now." Mike said with a strained voice. "I' not hungry."

"I know that, you've told me. But all you had today is some yoghurt so I'm going to need you to eat some more."

"You can't force me." Mike muttered and buried his head into the pillows. After that he ignored everything that Harvey was saying. Harvey tried to offer up different meal suggestions, offered to order anything he wanted, but Mike declined everything and asked to be left alone.

"Okay, kid." Harvey sighed. "I'll be back soon."

Mike didn't answer him, just stayed in the same position, curled up under the cover and three blankets. He was still so cold.

Harvey decided to place a call to Mike's doctor and check to see if there was anything him or they could do for the kid. He didn't get much news though, the only thing he was told was that if Mike's pain didn't lessen, he should bring Mike to the hospital. It wasn't what Harvey wanted to hear, but what else could he do. He also didn't get any useful explanation from the doctor about what was causing Mike's pain. Just that they thought that it was normal cancer pain or side effects. Side effects of what, had Harvey asked, but didn't get much of an answer.

The next time Harvey went back to Mike he was in the same position as before. His face was mostly hidden along the pillows, but Harvey could tell that he was awake.

"Hi Mike." He said and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Hi Harvey."

"Still bad?"

"Yes."

"Anything I can do for you?" Harvey asked and hoped that Mike would say yes. He couldn't do nothing anymore.

"I need to go to the bathroom." Mike whispered.

"Do you want me to help you?"

"Yes…"

"Okay." Harvey hesitated just a little bit, but then started to pull the blankets off Mike. Mike didn't move, so Harvey grabbed his shoulder.

"I'm just going to sit you up, okay."

He waited until Mike nodded and then maneuvered him upright. Mike groaned and swore and bent forwards. Harvey was holding him up with both hands on his shoulders. For a while Mike just hang in his grip like he was trying to collect himself. Eventually he started to move around to get his feet on the ground. Harvey steadied him with an arm around his shoulder. Mike moaned in pain and kept his arms pressed against his chest.

"You ready to stand?" Harvey asked, even though he wanted to put the kid down again.

"Y-yeah."

"Okay, here we go." Harvey said and then heaved Mike up to his feet. It didn't work out that well, Mike moaned, and his knees buckled, and he tumbled int Harvey's chest when his legs couldn't carry him. Harvey kept him upright though.

"Ow, ow, ow… It hurts." Mike mumbled as he fought to keep himself standing.

"You are okay." Harvey said. "You ready?"

"Yeah." Mike mumbled and stumbled a little forward.

They slowly made their way to the bathroom, and Harvey let the kid be there by himself after getting Mike to promise that he could handle it. He went and got the wheelchair after that. They should have used it from the beginning.

Mike was pale and sweaty when Harvey came to get him. He was shaking a bit and still curled up around himself. Harvey pushed the wheelchair up to him and helped him sit down on it. He then pushed Mike back to the bedroom and helped him back onto the bed. Mike didn't say a word, just moaned when Harvey maneuvered him.

He put the blankets back over Mike and placed the hot water bottle on his chest. Mike had his eyes pressed closed.

"Mike, I want you to take this and drink a little." Harvey said and held out a cup with Mike's usual pills and some water.

Mike opened his eyes and looked at Harvey's hand. He shook his head and turned away. Harvey clenched his teeth together and closed his eyes for a moment.

"Mike, you know that you have to take these."

Mike didn't react.

"Mike, come on. We'll do it quick." Harvey tried again.

Mike turned his head towards him then. "Okay…" He whispered.

"I'm just going to rise the bed a little."

Mike moaned again as he did.

"Okay. I'll help you. It's bad this time huh? If it gets much worse, Mike, I'm going to take you to the hospital no matter what you say. I don't like to see you like this, you know."

He helped Mike with the pills by giving him a few at the time, then putting the glass of water to his lips. Mike had all of them without complaining, but Harvey could tell that he was fighting, that he was in pain.

"Oh Mike." Harvey sighed. "I'll be right back." He went to get some supplies and went back to the kid. Mike was looking towards him when he came back.

"I'm staying with you. Don't worry." He said and sat down. He carefully wiped Mike's face with the wet cloth he had gotten. Mike closed his eyes and remained silent. Harvey stayed with him the entire night.

Adam came over the next morning and Harvey felt relieved that the nurse was going to come and help him assess Mike. He would be able to tell if the situation was bad enough to warrant a visit to the hospital. Mike was still in pain in the morning and it just sucked. Why couldn't the kid catch a break? What was wrong with him?

Harvey sat down on a chair in Mike's room as Adam checked Mike over. Mike remained silent, he only answered with yes or no. He wanted to stay in the same curled up position and didn't like it when Adam wanted for him to sit up straighter so he could listen to his lungs.

"He hasn't been in this much pain for this long period of time." Harvey said.

Adam nodded as he started to check Mike's blood pressure. He squeezed Mike's shoulder when he let out a groan. "Sorry, man. I'll leave you alone soon."

"So, you don't think he needs to go to the hospital?" Harvey pressed.

"Not at the moment." Adam concluded. "I think it will pass with rest and medication. Or what do you say Mike?"

"Yeah…" Mike mumbled and closed his eyes, apparently done with this now. He said that he was cold.

Harvey wasn't satisfied but had to leave it alone for now. Mike was in pain, cold and looked exhausted after a restless night, so Harvey felt that he had to let him be, at least while it seemed like he wasn't in any danger.

Adam assured him that he would look out for Mike, so Harvey could go to work. Harvey felt kind of bad about leaving the kid when he looked like he did now. Before he left, he tried to talk to Mike about it, because he didn't want to leave if Mike wasn't okay with it. But he had a hard time getting any contact with Mike, at least not any sensible contact. Mike just hummed something and didn't look at him. Harvey put a hand on his head for a moment and then left for work.

He had two meetings scheduled for the day, but had a hard time concentrating. He found himself thinking about Mike while the client talked and had to ask her to repeat herself. He apologized and she didn't seem to notice how distracted he was. Mike was laying at home in pain, while he was here doing…what? He didn't even know. He had an urge to just stand up and leave but didn't. Mike wouldn't want him to do that.

Donna noticed that something was wrong though and came inside his office as soon as the last client had left.

"Harvey, what's wrong?" She asked. "Is it Mike?"

"No, Donna. Nothing is wrong." He said but that didn't convince her.

"I can see that it is something. Tell me. How is he?"

Harvey sighed before he answered.

"I don't know, Donna. He's in a lot of pain right now. And he complains that he is cold all the time."

"Oh…" She said and sat down in front of him. "Is it anything I can do?"

"Maybe you could come and sit with him. I'm sure he would appreciate that."

"Of course."

They agreed that she would come over tomorrow and Harvey went home after that. He wouldn't get much done here anyway. He placed a call to Adam in the car on his way home, but the nurse didn't answer. Harvey got worried immediately. Had something happened? But the next minute he got a text from Adam saying that Mike was sleeping, and that he couldn't talk.

Harvey was quiet when he stepped into his condo and made his way over to Mike's room. To his surprise he found Adam sitting on the bed with Mike sprawled out on his lap. Mike never used to seek comfort from the nurse, but now he was laying on the man's lap. Harvey clenched his teeth when he understood that it must have been bad. He wondered if Mike had wanted him there. Had he called out for him?

"Hi Harvey." Adam whispered and Harvey felt a little stupid when he realized that he had just been standing there. "He fell asleep an hour ago. I think that pain had lessened a little."

"That's good." Harvey whispered back. "I'll… I'll be out here if you need me." He left the room again. There wasn't much he could do here anyway.

Adam was scheduled to stay until late this evening, but Harvey thought that he might send him home earlier. He didn't feel like working, and if he was honest, he couldn't think of anything else to do now. This had been his life for so long now. Mike and work, it was all he spent his time on. Maybe he should take the opportunity to hit the gym now when he had some time on his hands. But what if Mike woke up while he was away?

Harvey eventually decided to go for a run and clear his head and get a bit of energy. He managed to get Mike out of his head for a bit, besides, he knew that he could trust Adam to look after Mike.

The younger man was still sleeping when Harvey got back and still laying on Adam's lap. Harvey wasn't sure why it bothered him that Mike was doing that.

"Has he eaten anything today?" Harvey asked.

"A little. He had some tea, yoghurt and some fruit, but he doesn't really have that much of an appetite." Adam said. "You should get something into him before he sleeps for the night."

Harvey nodded and went to take a shower. When he got back Mike was awake and Adam was trying to get him to take a few pills. Mike was reluctant to pretty much everything. He didn't want to move, didn't want anything to drink and didn't want the pills. He took them though eventually. Harvey could see how he tense he was and how much effort it took him to lift his head enough to be able to drink. He did not look forward to his task of getting Mike to eat dinner.

Adam left thirty minutes later since his shift was over and Harvey took his place in Mike's room. He had made them dinner and brought it over to the kids' room, so that Mike wouldn't have to get out of bed.

"It's time to eat Mike." He said and was ignored.

"Do you want me to help you?" Harvey said and took a bite from his own plate.

"No…" Mike mumbled. "Not hungry."

"That's too bad. You need to eat something anyway."

"No." Mike said.

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes, Mike."

Mike glared at him now and Harvey smirked.

"You are no fun."

"Well, that wasn't really what I was aiming for anyway."

"Fine. You won't leave me alone until I eat, so…"

"I'm afraid you are right. Here we go."

Harvey helped Mike to eat and he was satisfied that the kid had half his portion. It was more than he had hoped for.

"How are you feeling?" Harvey asked when he didn't want to force Mike to eat anymore.

"Terrific. Been in bed all day. It's great." Mike forced a smiled.

"Yeah, you're pretty lazy."

"I prefer spoiled."

"You're that too." Harvey lightly hit him.

Mike closed his eyes but smiled.

"How is the pain?" Harvey asked.

"Manageable."

"You want me to reheat the water bottle?"

"Yeah. I'm cold."

Harvey watched him for a moment, he suspected that Mike was in more pain then he let on. But at least he was joking around and making an effort. That was something.

"Thank you." Mike whispered as Harvey helped him to put the hot water bottle over his chest.

Harvey sighed. "You're welcome. Get some rest."

"I'll try."

"You want another blanket?"

"Yes."

Harvey spent an hour or so in the kids' room and only left after Mike started lightly snoring. He turned on the baby monitor, fixed the blanket and went to bed. He got to sleep about three hours before something woke him, or not something, Mike.

The younger man had folded himself in half and was pressing his arms across his chest. He was moaning in pain and Harvey hated it. Mike was shaking and sweating, and Harvey had a hard time getting through to him. He tried to speak to him, to get him to look at him but Mike just moaned and moved away from his hands.

"Mike, I want you to take the pills. You will feel better. Mike?" He tried, but it was like Mike couldn't hear him. Harvey hesitated as he tried to figure out his next move. Should he just take the kid to the hospital? He knew that Mike wouldn't want that, but they would help him. He would get stronger meds than Harvey could offer him. He decided to try and get Mike to take the pain pills first and if it wasn't better within the hour, they would go.

"Mike, I'm going to sit you up so that you can take the painkillers." Harvey warned, before he rose the bed, grabbed Mike, and heaved him upright. He felt how Mike weakly resisted him and heard him groan, but he couldn't care about that right now.

"Open your mouth."

When Mike didn't, Harvey grabbed his jaw and bent it open and stuffed two pills in Mike's mouth. He brought a glass of water up to the kids lips and tipped it upwards. Half of the content ended up on Mike's chest, but at least he swallowed the pills.

"Good job." Harvey told him. He grabbed some paper and wiped Mike's face clean from water and his tears. "It'll be better soon. I'll make sure of it."

Mike took no notice of him and when Harvey let his head go, he rolled it around on the pillow as if he was trying to get away. He kept moaning and panting. It was just terrible.

When Harvey was sure that Mike wouldn't fall off the bed, he went to reheat the hot water bottle again. He had to bend Mike's arms away to be able to place it back on his chest.

"It will help. You will be better soon. Just hang in there." Harvey kept talking to him, hoping that it would help somehow.

Mike suddenly coughed and his head turned towards Harvey. He tried to say something, but Harvey couldn't make it out what it was. He asked, but Mike just shook his head.

"I didn't get that Mike."

"I…I…I'll throw up." Mike eventually got out.

Oh shit. Harvey was right on time to avoid having to do emergency laundry. He held on to Mike as he threw up. He wiped Mike's face yet again. He felt like wiping his own face as well. He was done with this now.

"You know what, we are going to the hospital. I'm calling us a cab." Harvey decided. Enough was enough.

"No…" Mike said, but Harvey ignored him and called.

"I don't…" Mike was saying, but Harvey interrupted him.

"I'm not going to sit here and watch you in this much pain, when there is something we can do about it, Mike. So, this is happening."

-SUITS-

Mike felt like screaming when Harvey started to rise the bed, so that he was forced up to sitting. He didn't want to move.

"Mike, I'm going to turn you to your side." Harvey told him and then he did just that. He groaned and kept his eyes closed. He let Harvey maneuver him so that he had his legs on the side of the bed. Harvey put shoes on his feet and wanted him to put on another sweater, Mike refused to comply though and Harvey soon gave up.

"Let's just stay here." Mike tried.

"No, Mike." Harvey said and wanted him to stand up.

"No…I can't walk." Mike said.

"Yes, you can. I'll help you."

Getting out of the condo and down in the elevator and into a cab, felt like it took ages. He had trouble walking upright and was fairly sure that he kept making these pathetic sounds all the way down. This went by in kind of a blur, kind of like he was in a tunnel and everything passed him too quickly on each side. He wanted to tell Harvey about it but didn't really have much control over himself.

The car ride wasn't that good either. He was in so much pain that it felt like his chest was tearing itself into pieces. He was sitting bent forward with his eyes closed and might have been mumbling to himself. He knew Harvey was there too. Harvey patted his back sometimes and he said things. Mike couldn't understand it though. He should understand.

A lot of noise and movement met them when they got to the hospital. Mike wished they could turn around. He wanted to scream as they had him to lay down on a gurney, laying straight on his back hurt and he wanted to curl up again. They were preventing him from doing that though.

"It's okay Mike." Someone was saying next to him. Not someone, Harvey. Harvey was walking next to them.

They had him in a room and moved him onto a bed. Harvey was there. Mike just laid there. Someone was talking next to him, wanted him to look, took hold of his arm. He let everything happen, it wasn't much more he could do. He was in pain, felt exhausted and cold. He wished it would stop.

He didn't know how much time passed or what was going on around him, but soon he started to feel a little better. The pain started to lessen, and he felt himself slip away. For just a moment he tried to fight it, but then felt a hand along his cheek. When he looked up, all he saw was Harvey's face.

"Go to sleep." Harvey was saying. Mike was pretty sure that he smiled. Then he closed his eyes.

He didn't know for how long he was asleep, or if he even slept. He felt confused about that, and a lot of other things, when he opened his eyes again. He looked around a little and saw that Harvey was sitting next to him as usual. Harvey was always there. Mike felt like smiling.

"Are you awake again?" Harvey asked when he saw that Mike was awake.

"No. I sleep with my eyes open."

"Shut up." Harvey shook his head. "Are you still in pain?"

"No. I don't think so." Mike mumbled. "It feels heavy."

"Heavy? What's heavy?"

Mike sighed. "I don't know."

He pulled his blanket a little higher up. He felt cold. He told Harvey that.

"Cold and heavy. Alright. It's better than before at least. You should go back to sleep. It's like three in the morning."

Mike blinked a bit towards him. "What about you?"

"What do you mean?"

"You should sleep too."

"I wish I could. I'll sleep after you go to sleep."

Mike stared at him. He felt a bit stupid when he couldn't really follow what Harvey was saying. His brained was a little fried. "I'm cold." He said. He saw that Harvey nodded and looked around the room. Then he stood up.

"I'll see if I can do something about that. Wait here."

Mike rolled his eyes at him and didn't answer. Where would he go?

He couldn't understand why he felt so cold. What was wrong with him? He brought up a hand to his forehead to see if he had a fever. But it didn't feel like he did. His hand felt cold though. He wanted another blanket. Where was Harvey? He called for him, and Harvey showed up the next minute.

"You can't scream like that Mike, it's the middle of the night. I couldn't find any blankets."

"What? Okay. B-but I'm cold though." He said. "I'm cold."

"I know, I know." Harvey walked up to him. "I'm sorry, kid." Harvey stroked his arm up and down.

"Th-that doesn't help." Mike groaned and curled up even more. He was shaking and his teeth clattered.

"Try to relax." Harvey said. He was still stroking Mike's arm.

He couldn't relax. He felt like crying. He was tired. He wanted help.

"Harvey…" He whispered.

"Yeah." Harvey sighed next to him. "I tried to find a blanket Mike, but I couldn't. The nurses were busy too. So, I don't have anything for you."

"But I'm cold." Mike said again. He couldn't help it. His brain couldn't come up with anything else at the moment.

"I know you are." Harvey said. He sighed again. "You know what? We can always try body heat."

Mike looked at him as Harvey started to climb up on the bed next to him.

"Sit up, Mike. Come here."

Harvey maneuvered him around so that Mike was laying almost on his chest. Harvey pulled the blanket back over him and then wrapped both arms around his back.

"You can't complain now." He muttered. "The things I do for you."

Mike was quiet and stayed where he was. It wasn't that comfortable, but Harvey was warm below him. He could feel Harvey's jaw against the top of his head. He closed his eyes. He should sleep.

He woke up from Harvey moving.

"Shit. Did I wake you?" Harvey said when he moved a little. "I was going to just slid out underneath you. So much for that. I just need to go to the bathroom Mike. I can't wait any longer."

Mike chuckled and moved a little more so that Harvey could get of the bed. The other man quickly disappeared, and Mike closed his eyes again. He was just going to sleep a little more.

The next time he woke up a nurse was there to check him. He let him do whatever he wanted to get it over quicker. Harvey was sitting on a chair to the side, he looked tired.

"Are you still cold?" Harvey asked. "I had them put another blanket on you."

"I'm alright." Mike said.

"That's good. Are you in pain then?"

"A little."

"Okay."

They waited after that. Breakfast came. Another nurse stopped by, the doctor would be there soon, they were told. When the doctor arrived, a discussion followed about dozes of medication, pain relief and whether they could go back home or not. Mike didn't take part in the discussion. He let Harvey handle all of that. Whatever they wanted to do, as long as Harvey was fine with it, Mike was too. He trusted Harvey.

Apparently, they thought that he was okay to go home, because they did. Harvey told him something about that they were going to adjust his medication again, he shouldn't have to be in pain like that again. That was good.

He felt a little out of it but didn't know why. Harvey didn't talk that much in the car on their way home. Adam was waiting for them when they arrived. He was actually standing in the entrance of the building and came up to them as they stepped out of the car.

"Mike, listen. Follow Adam upstairs and head to bed. I'll have to go to the office for a while."

"But for how long?" Mike asked and felt how Adam took a hold of his arm.

"Just a few hours. I have a partner meeting again. Go with Adam."

Mike shook his head. "You look tired." He said.

Harvey smiled a little. "Yeah, I am. You kept me up all night."

"Yeah… Sorry Harvey."

"Don't worry about it."

Mike smiled too and then he went with Adam as Harvey got back into the car.

-SUITS-

Harvey smiled when he looked out the car window. Mike had been pretty out of it. He had looked like he hadn't understood a word Harvey had been saying to him, but at least he seemed otherwise fine. He hadn't been in so much pain today, and he was able to walk by himself. Some sleep would probably set him straight again.

Sleep would really be nice. He dragged a hand over his eyes. He realized now that he probably should have gone with Mike and Adam upstairs and changed. But he had a spare suit at the office. Besides, he would be late to the meeting if he had gone with them up. He felt slightly guilty for going to work when Mike just had been at the hospital, but the kid had seemed fine. He shouldn't feel guilty. Mike had smiled.

Donna greeted him when he walked up towards his office. She stood up and studied him with raised eyebrows.

"What happened to you? Were you mugged?" She asked.

"Good morning to you to." Harvey muttered and passed her, she followed him.

"No, Harvey what happened? The partner meeting starts in fifteen minutes. Is Mike okay?"

"Mike is okay. We spent the night at the hospital, but he is home now. I came straight from there. I need to go and change."

She stood in his way though. "Why were you at the hospital? What happened?"

"He was in a lot of pain, so I took him there. They helped him and now he's home with Adam. Donna, I really need to freshen up."

She took a step to let him though. "You should be home too, Harvey. You look exhausted."

She was probably right. He was exhausted. When he had changed and looked himself in the bathroom mirror, he could understand the look she had given him. He looked terrible and should have shaved. But he had missed so many meetings, so he was going to go on this one.

Jessica also gave him a look when he walked into the conference room and took a seat, but he ignored her. The meeting started. Most of the points were news to Harvey since he didn't spend a whole lot of time at the office. It was hard to concentrate though. He could feel how his eyes started to slip close. Damn it.

He pinched himself on the arm and tried to concentrate on what Jessica was saying. It was so boring though. Again, he felt how his eyelid grew heavy. No, he couldn't fall asleep.

Discreetly he pressed his fingers towards his eyes for a bit. Now his eyes hurt, but he didn't feel more awake. He wanted to yawn but knew he couldn't. If he just rested his eyes for a few seconds.

He woke up when he felt how his head felt forward. Shit. He wanted something to drink. He should have gotten some coffee before he stepped in here.

Oh no. It happened again. This time his head tipped backwards. He straightened up in his chair and glanced around to see if someone had noticed him.

"Harvey, what do you think?" Jessica suddenly asked him. He had no idea what she was talking about. He hadn't listened the last few minutes. His mind changed gear and the attention he was getting, got him a bit more awake.

Should he admit that he had been gone, or just say something? He had one second to decide before they would consider him a lunatic.

"About what exactly?" He said, taking a chance.

Luckily for him, Jessica's question had warranted an explanation, so he could give his opinion in the matter. He also managed to stay awake during the rest of the meeting. He was one of the first to leave the room when they adjourned. He went straight to get coffee.

Jessica came to see him a while later at his office. He had been expecting her, she was smart enough to have noticed that he hadn't been following during the meeting.

"What happened?" She asked as she sat down in front of him.

He considered on what to answer her, but eventually went with the truth.

"I was just tired Jessica."

"Yes, I can see that. But why are you tried? Is it the kid?"

"Yes, it's Mike. Of course, it is." Harvey smiled a little at her.

"Is he alright?" Jessica surprised him a little by asking.

"He was in a lot of pain last night. I took him to the hospital around two thirty in the morning."

She nodded. "And what are you doing here?"

He blinked against her. "What?"

"Go home, Harvey. You look like you need some rest."

He thought about protesting, but then opted to not to. "Alright."

It turned out that Donna had already caller Ray. "As soon as I saw Jessica coming." She had said.

When he got home, he found Mike and Adam on the couch, watching some TV show about people in space. Mike seemed to like that kind of stuff, he now asked if Harvey wanted to join them. Not even saying anything about that fact that Harvey was back home after less than two hours, when he had said that he would be away longer. Harvey declined the kid's offer and went to bed. It felt like he would be able to sleep for a week.

He woke up from his bed moving. He groggily sat up and saw that Mike had laid down on the cover next to him.

"No, go back to sleep. You look like you still need it. I'll just lay here."

Harvey blinked at him but laid back down. "Okay." He said. "Did Adam leave?"

"Yeah."

Harvey looked at the younger man. Mike had made himself comfortable on the bed next to him. He has his iPad with him, and it looked like he was playing some game on it. Harvey yawned and closed his eyes again. Mike's fingers were tapping on the screen. It felt good that he was close by. Comfortable. Harvey would know if something happened.

He woke up later that evening, again it was Mike that woke him up. He was standing at the side of the bed looking down at him.

"You have been sleeping all day. Are you doing okay, Harvey?"

Harvey gently pushed him back a bit and sat up. He rubbed his face.

"Mike, I'm fine. I slept like three hours last night, that's all."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. I was just tired. How are you? You seem better."

"Yes, I think I am better. I've made dinner."

Harvey stared at him. "You made dinner." He repeated stupidly. "You cooked?"

"What? Yes, I was hungry. I thought you would be too." Mike started to walk out of the room, and Harvey just followed him.

Mike had indeed cooked. The table was set, and it looked like it was some sort of pasta with a tomato sauce. It tasted really good.

"I didn't know you could cook." Harvey said and smirked.

Mike rolled his eyes at him. "Maybe I can start doing it more."

"Maybe." Harvey agreed.

Mike only had half of his already small portion, but Harvey didn't say anything about it. He just saved the rest of the meal in the fridge for tomorrow. He felt well rested and kind of happy. Mike seemed to be in a good mood. He wasn't cold or in pain anymore. He was wearing a pretty thick sweater, so that might have been the reason for that, but it was still good news. Sometimes it surprised Harvey on how fast it all could turn around. Yesterday they had been at the hospital and today Mike had cooked them dinner.

Donna came over the next day, around lunch. It was Friday and Harvey had stayed home. Mike was taking a nap. She announced that she was going to stay with them the whole weekend to make sure that they were okay.

"You don't want me to worry about you too." She warned him.

"What did I do?" Harvey asked.

"You know."

He smiled. He did know what she meant. He hadn't been himself yesterday. "I was just tired." He defended himself.

"Then come help me with the lunch."

They small talked as they cooked together and enjoyed each other's company. Mike woke up when Harvey dropped a knife on the floor. He wanted to join them, but Donna make him take a couple of pills and stay on the couch. Mike looked like he wanted to complain, but he didn't, and stayed where he was told.

After lunch Mike suggested that they would have a movie marathon, and as always, his wish came true. Were they spoiling him? Harvey didn't mind doing that though. In the middle of the second movie he found himself tearing his eyes of the screen and instead looking at Mike and Donna. Mike was leaning against Donna, who had her arm behind his back and leant her head against Mike's. They looked so comfortable with each other. These two were the most important people in Harvey's life. He didn't know who he would be without them, or what he would do. Hopefully, he wouldn't need to know.

Mike was a bit more redrawn the next day. He went back to bed after breakfast and said that he didn't need company, when Donna asked him. When Harvey went to check on him, Mike was sitting in bed with a book in his lap. He looked entirely lost to the world, so Harvey left him alone again without saying anything.

After lunch they went out on a short walk. It had been Donna's idea and Harvey had been reluctant.

"We both know what happened the last time." He had said.

"But this time, you and I will be there with him. And we will bring the wheelchair. Mike will use it if he has to."

Mike agreed to all of Donna's terms and he did sit down in it when Harvey asked him to. They went to a café, had a smoothie each and then went back home.

It was a good weekend. One of the best they had in a long time. Mike felt fine most of the time, which was the best part of it. The only thing was a pretty bad nightmare that woke both Donna and Harvey and brought them to his room around three thirty at night.

Harvey sat down on his bedside and let Donna do the talking and the calming down. Mike was mumbling things that they couldn't make out, but Harvey understood that it was about his parents.

"Mum was going to… My mum…" Was all he heard. It hurt a little in him, hearing Mike talk like that.

Donna shushed him and stroked his arm. She told him that everything was fine, that he was okay, and that Harvey and her were with him. Mike fell back asleep after a few minutes, holding Donna's hand.

The next day they all pretended that it hadn't happened. Mike joked around and took naps when Donna forced him to. They played games and Donna had brought a puzzle with her.

"No, that's not for me." Harvey claimed and went to sit on the couch with his laptop as the other two stayed at the table with the puzzle. It was a thousand pieces and Harvey didn't think he would have the patience for something like that.

"How do you do that?" He heard Donna ask about twenty minutes later.

"I just memorized it." Mike said.

Donna was pretty amazed when they were done.

"I did one tenth of it. You should see him, it was incredible." Donna told him as she helped him with the dinner. "He looked at the picture on the box, then at all the pieces after we laid them out, and then he just picked on piece after another."

"Isn't that cheating?" Harvey asked.

"I'm not sure you can cheat in puzzles." They both laughed.

Mike was sitting on one of the sun chairs on the balcony and it looked like was sleeping again. It turned out to be the case because Harvey had to wake him up for dinner. Mike almost fell down when he stood up and Harvey grabbed his arm.

"Oops." Mike said and smiled. "I'm okay."

Harvey shook his head. "Sure, you are."

The next day Harvey brought Mike to the hospital for a quick checkup. Mike seemed fine, but tired. He didn't talk that much but walked without support and wasn't in pain. They got back home after less then two hours, and they were both surprised when Mike suddenly threw up his breakfast on the living room floor. He coughed a little and straightened up and groaned a bit.

"Oops." He said and looked at Harvey. "I'm sorry."

"Okay." Harvey said. "That was sudden."

"Yeah… I don't know where that came from."

"Your stomach." Harvey muttered and started to get the cleaning supplies. "Go lay down."

Mike quietly did what he was told and was laying on the couch when he got back. Harvey quickly cleaned up without a word and then went over to Mike. The younger man looked nervous, maybe even a bit scared.

"Are you mad?" He asked when Harvey sat down.

"No. I'm not mad at you for that."

"For something else then?"

Harvey smiled. "No, you idiot. I'm not mad. Clearly, you didn't have time."

"No… It just came from nowhere. I didn't even feel sick."

"Do you now?"

"A bit."

"Do I need to get you a bucket."

"I don't think so."

Harvey nodded and patted his head a bit. "Get some rest or something."

Mike huffed a little and closed his eyes. "Okay."

Harvey couldn't help but feel a little worried about this. Mike had been fine for a while now, was this the start of a bad period again? He really hoped that wasn't the case, he was done with those. It would be amazing if they could get a few good weeks now. Mike deserved it, and frankly Harvey thought that he deserved it as well. He didn't want to clean his floors anymore. Was it any spot of his apartment that Mike hadn't thrown up at? Maybe that wasn't fair, but he missed the bucket a bit too much.

He couldn't get Mike to eat that much for the rest of the day, and Harvey decided to just leave him alone. He guessed the kid could be without food for one day. At least he had some juice.

Mike felt better the next day though. He said that he didn't feel sick. But he didn't want to do anything that Harvey suggested, he had stayed at home today as well. Mike just wanted to lay on the couch and watch TV shows on his iPad. So, Harvey let him be and got some work done.

A couple of days went by like that. Mike was fine but wanted to stay in bed or on the couch. Harvey let him. It gave him the opportunity to head to the office, while Adam came to stay with Mike. At the evenings he joined Mike on the couch, and they would watch a movie together, before heading to bed. One night, Mike asked if Harvey could stay in his room, after Harvey had said good night.

"Sure." Harvey said and sat down on the chair next to the bed. "Is something on your mind?" He asked after a while of Mike just laying there staring at the ceiling.

"Yeah…" Mike said. Then he was quiet. Harvey watched him with raised eyebrows. Was he going to say anything else? Did he want Harvey to guess? But he decided to just wait and see what Mike said.

"I've been…" Mike started after probably two minutes; Harvey didn't have his watch on. "I've been thinking about my parents a lot lately."

"Oh." Harvey said. He waited to see if Mike would say something else. He felt a little panicked when Mike remained quiet. "So…" He tried.

"I would like to go and see them."

Harvey felt how he tightened his stomach. What?

"What…?" He swallowed. "What do you mean go see them?" Was the kid delirious or something? Did he have a fever that Harvey had missed? Or was it something worse? "Mike, you know that they are not here, right?" He then said.

Mike turned to look at him then. He frowned. "What are you talking about? Harvey, I know they are dead. I mean, I would like to go to their graves."

"Oh." Harvey said again. "Of course."

"It's just that I haven't been to see them for so long now, and I just… I keep thinking that I… I don't know. I miss them sometimes and I would like to…"

Harvey interrupted him here. He just had to because Mike sounded almost desperate.

"We can go, Mike." He said. "Of course, we can go and see them."

"Yeah?" Mike asked. He smiled then and Harvey saw that his eyes were a bit shiny. "Thank you. It's not that far to the graveyard."

"You want to go tomorrow?" Harvey asked. Mike just nodded.

Harvey stayed until he fell asleep. So, apparently, they were heading to see Mike's parents tomorrow. It was sad. The way Mike babbled, like he thought that Harvey would deny him. But maybe the kid had thought about his walk to the park. He immediately decided to bring Mike's wheelchair, just in case.

Mike fell asleep in just a couple of minutes. Harvey thought he looked so much more relaxed than before. Maybe this was something he had been thinking about asking for a long time.

It hit him that he didn't even know the names of Mike's parents. Or where they were buried. He decided to give Donna a call.

It turned out that she knew both their names and where they were buried. She told him that Mike had told her that information. Harvey didn't know what he felt about the fact that he didn't know it. Mike was like a brother or even a son to him, and he didn't know this basic information. Well, he knew now.

"Do you think that I could come with you, Harvey?" Donna asked him.

"Yes, I don't think he would mind." Harvey answered.

They decided that she would come over the next day after lunch and they would go then. That was the time of the day when Mike had the most energy.

It turned out that Mike didn't mind at all. Instead Mike thanked the both of them for taking him.

"It means a lot." Mike smiled sadly at them.

"Of course, Mike." Donna leaned down to hug him from behind where he was sitting at the table and forcing himself to eat lunch. He seemed to want to eat every last bit of the meal today. It was just a bit boring to sit there and wait for him. It took him ages.

Harvey noticed that Mike was a little shaky as they made their way towards the car. Mike had glared at him when Harvey brought the wheelchair, but he hadn't said anything so that told Harvey that it was the right call to bring it.

This time Harvey was driving with Mike and Donna in the backseat. Once in a while Harvey threw a glance at Mike in the rear-view mirror. The younger man was sitting quiet and looking out the window. Donna made a few attempts of getting him to talk, but soon let him be.

When they pulled up on the parking lot to the graveyard and stopped the car, Harvey saw that Mike had gotten pale. He started to wonder if this was such a good idea.

"Are you okay Mike?" He asked.

"Yes." Mike said and started to get out of the car before Harvey had time to say anything else. When Harvey started to get the wheelchair out of the trunk Mike stopped him.

"No, I don't need." He shook his head to emphasize it. Harvey nodded and let Mike have his way. He could always go and get it if they needed it. Donna looked hesitant though and Harvey could understand it. Mike looked like he should be in bed and not up and walking.

"It's that way." Mike pointed towards an entrance in the stone wall that enclosed the graveyard.

"Mike, are you sure you don't want to take the wheelchair?" Donna asked.

"No, there is too much gravel. But don't worry Donna, Harvey will carry me."

"What?" Harvey exclaimed.

Mike laughed. "I'll make it. It's not that far." He slowly started to walk towards the entrance. Harvey and Donna looked at each other and then walked after him. When they walked through the gate, they could see the graveyard better. They were walking down a gentle slope along an alley with threes, and along it was smaller paths with graves. Here and there were some bushes and smaller trees. It was quite beautiful and calm. They walked in silence and Harvey studied the inscriptions on the graves. It was a while ago since he had been to see his own father's grave. His last birthday.

Suddenly, after a couple of minutes of walking, Mike stumbled a bit to the side and fell down on his knees. Harvey rushed forward and grabbed a hold of his arm, his heart pounding.

"Mike, what is it? Are you in pain? Is it your heart?"

Mike tried to shake him off him, but Harvey didn't let him go.

"It's here, Harvey." Mike said then.

Harvey looked to where Mike was pointing and saw that Mike was right. They had arrived at his parent's gravestones. Nina and James Ross.

"Oh." He said. He moved his hand to Mike's back instead. He carefully sank down on his own knees next to Mike. Donna took his other side.

All three of them spent a couple of minutes looking at the grave. Harvey wasn't sure if this was okay for Mike, that him and Donna was there next to him. Maybe he wanted a moment alone?

Mike suddenly drew a deep breath and when Harvey looked at him, he saw that Mike's eyes filled with tears. He met Donna's eyes and saw that she had seen it too. She looked devastated, like she would burst out in tears herself. He still had his hand on Mike's back, and now he let it rest along Mike's neck.

"Mike…" He whispered, and the kid jerked.

"I… I didn't…" He said, but his voice broke. "I didn't bring anything. I should have brought flowers. There is nothing here."

Harvey saw that Mike looked over at the grave next to them, which had a flower arrangement next to the stone.

"Mike, it's…" He started, but Donna interrupted.

"I saw a flower shop close by." She said. "Mike, I can go and get something, if you like."

Mike looked up at her and nodded. "Yeah? I'd like that. Thank you. It's just that they don't have anything."

She leaned over and wrapped her arms around him, and held him close to her for a moment, before getting up and hurrying away. Mike looked after her, but then turned back towards the gravestone.

"Do you think that they would be disappointed at me?" He then asked, without turning towards Harvey.

"No, why would you say that?"

"Because of the choices I've made."

"Mike, you have done the best of the situations you've been in."

"No. I've always taken the easy way out. Always. Until you hired me. Working with you has been the best thing I've done."

Harvey felt a little lost, Mike spoke so openly. "I'm not disappointed at you, and I don't think they would be either. I think they would be proud. I know I am."

Mike looked at him then. He smiled, even if he still had tears in the corner of his eyes.

"Thank you."

They sat there in silence after that. Harvey thought of Mike's parents. What would it be like to know that you were leaving your child behind, all alone in the world? Mike had been eleven when they died, so young. It was unfair.

"Would you like a moment alone with them?" Harvey asked quietly.

Mike shook his head. So, Harvey stayed.

"If I don't make it, I want to lay next to them." Mike suddenly said. "I want to be close to them."

"Mike…" Harvey said, but couldn't come up with anything else.

"It's my wish." The kid said.

"Okay." Harvey finally said. "But you know you are getting better. You don't have to think about things like that." He couldn't help but saying it. He needed to say it.

"Okay." Mike said.

Harvey couldn't stand it when Mike talked like that. He wanted to scream at him to just shut up. He wasn't going to die, he just wasn't. Especially not now, he was doing better. Harvey briefly wished that they wouldn't have come here. He tried to not show Mike that he was upset.

Donna arrived a few minutes later with a bouquet of roses in different colors.

"I hope this is fine. I don't know what flowers you like, Mike."

"They are beautiful. Thank you, Donna." He took them from her hands and moved a bit closer to the grave. He gently placed the flowers next to it. For a moment he rested his hand on it. Harvey stood up and went over to Donna. They both took a few steps back when they heard how Mike started talking quietly. Both of them wanted to give him a little privacy. Harvey smiled when he felt how Donna took her hand in his.

-SUITS-

Mike remembered the last time he saw his parents. He remembered the way his mother had looked that last night. He remembered not even looking when his dad left his room for the last time, that was still a very painful memory. He remembered the good times too, trips that they've made, going to church, visiting Grammy, his mother reading to him. He remembered it all.

He sometimes considered his good memory a curse, but he also recognized it as a blessing. It helped him during a lot of the times now when he so often was bedridden and too tired or sick to do much else then to lay there and think. It was a blessing then.

Now, he gently placed a hand on his parent's gravestone. He was aware of the fact that Harvey and Donna were standing behind him, waiting for him. He wished that the four of them could have met. Harvey thought that his parents would be proud of him and Mike wanted to believe that. He also wanted his parents to be happy for him. And he knew that they would be if they were to know Harvey and Donna. They would be happy to see that he had such wonderful people as Harvey and Donna, in his life. Two people that cared deeply for him, who took care of him.

"I'm going to be alright." He whispered. "Harvey and Donna are looking out for me. You don't have to worry."

He felt how his sight got a little blurry, but he didn't care about that.

"I love you, and I miss you, but I have people who loves me. And I love them." He blinked away tears and smiled to himself. He didn't know why he was saying these things, it felt good though. He looked at the flowers Donna had bought. They were beautiful. He had felt so bad there for a while when he had noticed the state of his parents' grave. There was no one that took care of it. That was his job, there was no one else.

He knew that it had been right to come here. He had gone back and forth with it in his mind for some time before he decided to ask Harvey if they could go. Somehow, he had felt scared about going. It had been so long.

It was weird that it was at this place that he felt how loved he was. He didn't feel alone. Had had felt alone for a large part of his life, ever since they had died. Something had been missing in his life. He didn't feel like that anymore. Harvey had changed that.

He whispered a few more words to his parents before he stood up. Harvey stepped forward to help him and Mike let himself fall into the other man. Harvey quickly wrapped his arms around him. Mike hugged him back hard.

"Thank you." He whispered in Harvey's ear and held on to him. Then he let go and stood up straighter. Harvey looked a little surprised and worried. Mike smiled at him and then hugged Donna as well. She just smiled at him and took his hand as they started to head back to the car.

In the car Harvey wanted to know if he was okay.

"You are acting a bit weird. You are not in pain, are you?"

"No, Harvey I'm fine. Just a little tired."

"Sleep then." Harvey ordered him. Mike decided that it might be a good idea. A perk of having this illness was that he was able to fall asleep anywhere he was, fast too.

He woke up when the car stopped, and Harvey told him to get out. He felt a little confused and groggy but did what he was told. Harvey went out and unloaded the wheelchair, while him and Donna was waiting on the sidewalk. Harvey then drove away to park the car.

"Why don't you sit don't, sweetie?" Donna suggested and Mike did what she said. He felt heavy and didn't think he would be able to stand until Harvey got back anyway. Donna pushed him inside when Harvey came, and they went up to the condo in silence.

Mike sat down on the couch as soon as they got inside. He saw that Donna went to the kitchen and Harvey went to put the wheelchair away. They were taking care of things and he was just sitting there. That was how it had been ever since he moved in with Harvey. He rarely thought about that and when he did, he felt guilty. Harvey always took care of everything, and Mike expected him to. Harvey had never said anything about it. Mike wondered if the older man sometimes got tired of always serving him. If he survived, he really needed to do something about that.

He did his best in pushing the uncomfortable thoughts away. He wished that Harvey or Donna would join him on the couch. He wished that he could lean against them. He didn't know why things felt wrong now. Maybe he could ask them? He only saw Donna, still in the kitchen. What was she doing? Would he bother her?

"Donna?" He asked. She immediately looked at him and started to walk towards him.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

He didn't look at her when she sat down in front of him. He didn't answer her. Why was he feeling like this now? His chest was tight, and he just wanted her to hug him.

"Is something wrong, Mike?" Donna quietly asked.

He looked at her then.

"Can you sit with me?" He asked.

She smiled towards him and nodded. "Of course."

She sat down close to him, so that their shoulders were touching, then she took his hand in hers. After a minute or so Mike allowed himself to lean against her, resting his head against her shoulder.

"Hey." Harvey suddenly sat down on the other side of him.

"You two okay?" He asked.

"Yeah." Mike sighed. He felt better now. The other two stayed next to him a long time. He even slept a while and when he woke up again Harvey and Donna was still there. it was like they were a little family. Someone had put a blanket over him, and he felt relaxed and warm, content.

They had dinner and Mike laid down on the couch while Harvey and Donna stayed at the table with their tea. It was nice to lay there and hear them talking in the background as he closed his eyes. Todays trip had drained him somewhat, both physically and mentally. It had been worth it though.

Donna left right before Harvey made him go to bed. He wasn't really that tired then, since he had slept so much during the day, so he picked up the iPad and entertained himself with it for some time.

Harvey came into his room before the older man himself went to bed. He wanted to make sure that Mike was alright. Mike assured him that he was.

As usual Harvey had left a small light by the window lit. He still didn't like to be in total darkness if he woke up during the night, or when he tried to fall asleep. Him and Harvey never talked about it, which Mike thought was a relief. It was a bit embarrassing to admit to being afraid of the dark.

As he lay there, he couldn't help but start to think about his parents. He remembered those first nights after they had been gone. Him and his grandma had shared a bed and each night he had cried against her. It still hurt to think about it. And now she wasn't here either. He wanted to fall asleep now, so that he didn't have to think about these things. Sometimes he was just so tired of these sad thoughts that came to him at night. He wondered if it every would go away. Sometimes it felt like it wouldn't.

He was dreaming. It was the day that they had died, and he was eleven again. He came downstairs in search for his parents but couldn't find them. No one was there. He searched the entire house, but he was all alone. He started screaming. Somehow, he knew that they would never come, no one would. The dream changed and he was standing at the graveyard, but instead of their gravestones there were just holes in the ground. He approached them slowly to look inside. Soon he was so close to the edge that all he needed to do was to lean a bit forward to be able to look down. He started to lean forward but noticed that he couldn't stop. He leaned closer and closer until he lost his footing and started to fall down into the hole. He screamed as he was falling into blackness.

Hands were suddenly on him and was heaving him upright. He opened his eyes and noticed that he was still screaming. He stopped and tried to understand where he was and what was happening. He realized that he was sitting up in bed, Harvey was holding on to him and he was sobbing. He cried so hard that he had difficulty breathing. Harvey's hands had a tight grip on him. Harvey was talking.

"Calm down, Mike. Calm down. Everything is alright. You are okay. You're in your room. Your sitting, not falling."

How did Harvey know that he had been falling? He felt so confused. He tried to calm down though, but it was hard to just stop like that. His whole body was shaking, he was panting. Harvey was moving beside him. Was he going to leave? Mike tried to hold on to him but found that it was difficult to coordinate his hands. Then he was leaning against Harvey, with the older man's arm around his back. Harvey was moving them back and forth. Rocking, like he was a child. Things were spinning and his eyes felt wet and dry at the same time.

"Nothing bad is happening Mike. You are okay. You are fine." Harvey talked to him. "Calm down. I'm right here."

Mike listened. The rocking movement actually felt good. He took a few deep breaths as he listened to when Harvey was saying nice things to him. Soon Harvey laid him down on the bed again and dragged the cover over him. He was still there though. Mike closed his eyes and soon drifted back to sleep.

He was really tired the next day. Harvey came to wake him up the next morning and after taking the meds he opted for sleeping a bit longer. Harvey looked like he wanted to talk, but Mike said that he was tired. He remembered waking up in absolute terror, remember Harvey talking, being there for him. He should probably thank him. He was just going to sleep some first.

-SUITS-

Mike refused to get out of bed and Harvey just let him have his wish. The kid looked good though, much better than last night. Mike's nightmare had been horrible. Harvey had woken up from his screams. Again and again, he screamed, and Harvey rushed to his aid. You never knew if could be something serious. It took Harvey several minutes to get Mike to calm down. He was screaming and saying that he was falling. It was hard to get through to him. He had opted to hold on to Mike and move slowly back and forth with the kid in his arms.

After Mike had fallen asleep Harvey had stayed on the kids' bed for a while, just to make sure that he wouldn't wake up again. Mike nightmares were exhausting, it stressed him a lot more than he liked to admit. Mike were so upset when he woke and Harvey never knew if it was because of nightmares, heart problems, pain, or anything else. It was scary to witness Mike when he just had woken from the nightmare, but still was trapped in its world, not knowing what was real or not.

Now he could hear Mike coughing a bit in his room. Harvey was cleaning up in the kitchen at the same time as he was reading e-mails. He dried his hands a bit and went over to Mike's room, but the younger man was still asleep, so Harvey worked a bit before checking on him again. This time Mike was awake, blinking slowly.

"Hey there." Harvey said and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Hey." Mike said.

"You good? Hungry?"

"I'm good. Not hungry."

"You know I'll force you to eat anyway." Harvey smirked.

Mike smiled at that but didn't answer. He knew.

"Mike. Are you really doing okay?" Harvey insisted.

"Are you talking about the nightmare?" He asked after a moment.

"I'm talking about the nightmare. You said that you were falling."

"Yeah… I was at the graveyard, but instead of gravestones it was just holes in the ground. I fell into one."

"Oh shit. I would have screamed too."

Mike swallowed and looked away. "I didn't mean to scream." He mumbled.

"I know. It's okay." Harvey patted his arm. "I'm sorry you dreamed like that. Come with me to the living room now, kid."

"Okay, Harvey." Mike agreed and let Harvey heave him upright. "I can walk." He said next and pushed himself away from Harvey, who rolled his eyes at him.

"Sure, you can." He muttered and followed Mike and didn't help him as he stumbled into the door.

"Ouch." Mike rubbed his forehead. "That was your fault."

They argued all the way to the living room, about whose fault it had been that Mike walked into a door.
