Ryoko was and always will be an independent girl. Ever since she was little she depended on no one. Always doing everything herself, accepting no help, advice, or love from anyone else. Maybe it because she was afraid to hurt other people. Maybe it was because she was afraid to be hurt. With that she closed off her heart to all who tried to enter.
She changed a little after meeting with the other Blade Children, who suffered the same horrible fate as her. She opened her heart a little to them, yet the door still was locked and the key was still missing. Uninviting love sheltered inside fearful of the outside world. Because of this she separated herself from them, vowing to become a normal girl. She excelled in athletics because emotions were not required, or so she thought.
However this all changed when she met him. At first he seemed normal enough, a little on the klutzy side and certainly sarcastic enough. She never could have known that he was the key to unlocking her heart. The thing that made him different from the rest was that he accepted her. He accepted her personality, her will to be independent, to be free and to be by herself. At the same time she respected him because he respected her and because he wasn't constantly nagging her…yet.
Slowly, over time, they formed a bond together of little sarcastic comments to each other. Both never taking it seriously and never thinking twice about it. Both never could have thought this could grow into something. Yet it did; slowly and surely. From words to sentences, from sentences to paragraphs and finally from paragraphs to actual conversations consisting of a plot… mostly. From random things like the monkey that escaped from the zoo and zombies taking over the world to actual conversations about sports, politics… well not really, world issues and most importantly, their fate as the Blade Children. Together they got through the tough and happy times.
Along with the other Blade Children, especially Rio, they became close, almost like family. Rio was a younger sister to them both. Surviving the hunters and being one step closer to changing their destiny.
It was only one day that Ryoko realized she had changed all along, little by little. At first it was small things like help with the groceries. Then it was babysitting Rio, despite the fact Rio didn't need to be babysat. Then it became more and more clear until one day he called out to her.
"Ryoko… let me help you…" he said.
"… Thank you… Kouske…" she replied.
