Rediscovery, Part I.
October 31st.
Watchtower.
5:00 PM EDT.
Watching the earth from that high up always reminded Diana of what could be accomplished if mankind were to band together and work for peace, inclusivity, and prosperity. Sadly, it just never went her way. She was supposed to meet Percy for dinner tonight at his luxury apartment in Upper West Side, Manhattan. It had been many years since she celebrated Halloween. Well, since Percy's year of absence that is. However, with him back, she couldn't wait to surprise the children and just celebrate this weird holiday. Good times seem to be coming ahead and she would rather just immerse herself into it.
Admittedly, Percy's return lifted her spirits. What was not to like? He had this obvious easy-going charm he displayed with those he considered family. He made her seem like his elder sister in everything but flesh. Her life returned to the bright days before his untimely departure. He even started helping her focus to such an extent that she was able to live at home without her bracelets worn all the time. There was still a fear within her. A huge fear that he would be lost. Again. To something she would be indirectly responsible for. Something like say a paranoid, schizophrenic, dark, idealistic, and bastardly bat of the sewers from the crime city of the world.
Tensions had sprung up between herself and the stubborn, pig-headed, insufferable mortal vigilante of Gotham. Percy had revealed later that Batman had tracked her to their spot and used some kind of spy camera and audio transmitter to secretly record their… dramatic reunion. At first, she was understandably pissed. What right did he have to intrude on their private conversation? A lot of secrets that were close to them were aired openly. Was it because he didn't trust her? After all they had been through, he didn't take her word when she vouched for her brother? She should break him in half.
Percy calmed her down. He did make valid points. He had demonstrated frightening powers and skills in stopping that stupid super volcano and the bat was more paranoid than the usual superhero. Perhaps, it wasn't the question of trust but an obsessive need for control and being informed. That did little to assuage her temper. Yet, that twerp of her brother managed to get her to calm down by unloading a boatload of strawberry ice-cream. Yeah, she succumbed to his requests of a peaceful yet frosty, private confrontation with that control-freak later.
She picked now. Her shift on the watchtower was coming to an end and Batman had finished whatever repairs he had planned for the tower. She decided that the confrontation was best held in her private quarters on the tower itself. "Batman. Stay back. We need to talk."
Batman was still trying to come to terms with the conversation he… overheard between Diana and Perseus. While terrifying and enlightening, he knew that this talk was long coming when Percy found and crushed the spy cam, he had sicced on her. He knew that "Greek Salad Tonight" had to be some code phrase. So, he had a satellite track her flight path and then dispatched a surveillance module from his company headquarters in Athens. Still, Wonder Woman infuriated is as good as dipping your balls in honey for a bee colony to sting. It is damn right scary. Yet, on the outside, he needed to maintain a calm, brave and impassive façade. "I'll be in the common room."
Few minutes later, anybody who would have watched Wonder Woman walk towards Batman would have likened the scene to an executioner preparing the guillotine. Never one to beat around the bush, "I do not appreciate your intrusion into my privacy, Bruce. You had no right to surveil me. I was about to give you a piece of my mind right away. My little brother however, insisted that I try to resolve this… peacefully. So, I have come to you with a warning. Stay away from him. He doesn't want anything to do with superheroes. He will execute his duty as best as possible and safeguard the earth from unnatural disasters. If you wish to know something about him, you speak to me. If you have something to ask of him, you ask through me. Unless he changes his mind, you will not be anywhere within a hundred miles of him. Am I clear?"
Batman was fuming. How dare she? He was their leader. He decided if or not to surveil anyone that is a potential threat. Besides, does she really think she brush away her loss of control incident that easily? He had half a mind to put her in her place. Then, he began to think rationally. What if someone did that to Robin? He would have acted similarly. Perhaps, blown it way out of proportion. Still, he couldn't just let her steam roll him. "I did what I thought was necessary, Diana. He is an unknown variable. His proficiency in combat and his elemental powers, evident from his display few weeks back, can allow him to easily take on the entire Justice League and come out without a scratch. What if someone learnt of his existence? If they controlled him somehow, would you fight him and if necessary, incapacitate him? I cannot allow that kind of a risk to exist towards world security."
"I tried this the easy way. Now I am going to do this the fun way. I am sure, you heard our entire conversation. Right about now, based on your past behaviour, I am quite certain you are trying to come up with ways to… contain me if I ever go rogue. You know now that it would be incredibly difficult to use Aphrodite's Law against me or even my own lasso against me. I know you heard about my loss of control. I have never displayed much of my power before. I have restrained myself to entirely physical abilities, never using my metaphysical abilities hoping to not hurt you mortals. You forced my hand."
With that Diana's eyes began glowing in a mix of red and blue. The air became denser, and the temperature quickly shot up. She began floating into the air and her unnerving stare bore through Bruce's cowl. Then he felt pressure. So immense it was that it forced him immediately onto a crouching position. It was slowly crushing him. "I will reveal my biggest secret to you, Bruce. You see, I am the New Goddess of War, Peace and Family. I had the first domains from the beginning, but Perseus made my third domain a reality. He, along with the Amazons, are the only beings that constitute my family right now and I will protect them with my every breath. I do not care how you wish to proceed from here. I care no more about your paranoia or fear with the amount of power I possess. Even this is being fully restrained by my enchanted bracelets. You can think up ways to incapacitate me should I ever fall on the wrong side. But remember. Harm one hair on Percy's or any other Amazon's head, you will rue the day you were born. Heed my words, mortal."
Calming down slowly, she saw the cowering and stunned batman on the floor. Knowing that she got the point across, she began to walk towards the Zeta tube. "Oh! And he will not be joining the team. Not until he is fully comfortable with this superhero stuff. If you pursue it any further, you will regret it dearly." She was about to leave when she paused and said, "Give my regards to Alfred and Richard. Happy Halloween." And then, she was gone.
Mt. Justice.
19:50 EDT.
"I have fought side by side with these people. None are traitors." Kaldur declared to the group of Batman, Red Arrow, Robin, and Red Tornado. Robin sank back into the chair, dejectedly. They were unable to make out head or tail of the problems they were facing. Was there a mole? Wasn't there a mole? If so, who was it? Superboy with his Cadmus programming? Artemis with her wayward relations? M'gann? There was no way Wally or Kaldur were the moles.
Speaking of moles, when they thought Tornado was a mole, the Percy guy saved their collective butts. What were they going to do about him? He was too powerful to let him remain as he was. There was also the issue of the Red family. Their elemental powers would undoubtedly help in the League's mission. "On an unrelated topic, what will happen to the Red family? I mean they did attack us apart from Tornado. But that was due to their programming. Are they going to be inducted into the league if they prove worthy?"
Batman answered that without missing a beat. "That is not up for discussion here, Robin. It is league business. Besides, Torpedo and Inferno have decided to stay and learn from their younger brother, Tornado. It is a slow process, but they have come around to his way of thinking."
Red Arrow spoke up next in a manner that characterized his harsh nature. "The more pressing issue is with the loose cannon Perseus character. Shouldn't you have found out everything there is to find out about him by now, bats?"
Batman grimaced preferring to not answer that question. "Wonder Woman has vouched for him. Also, she has been quite… obstinate in matters that regard him in any manner."
Robin spoke up excitedly. "Maybe we can convince him to join our team? He is a powerhouse with all that elemental abilities. He might even turn the odds in our favour, in cases of us being outmatched. Multiple advantages as well with him being in constant league supervision and possibly training his raw potential into a far more effective tool for fighting evil."
Batman looked away when he answered. "It has been made painfully clear to me that if I were to be in a hundred-mile radius of him, I would be nothing but a greasy smear on Diana's fist. She is clearly quite… protective of him. (With a sigh of resignation) I guess I can understand. If someone were to do the same to Alfred or you, I would be doing the same if not more. Let us drop him for now. We will ask Diana to help us later, in the League end year meeting."
Percy's Luxury suite, Manhattan, New York.
19:00 EDT.
Percy was excited. After so many years, he was having family over for dinner. He had many surprises planned out for Diana that night. Yeah. He was sure she would enjoy herself. For it was more than a dinner. It was a family reunion/ Halloween party. Besides, the rest of the guests were usually so uptight and stuck up that they would need this release in any case. The chilli, spaghetti and meat balls, chicken burritos, Russian salad and pumpkin pastries were all ready. The nachos were almost done. Pizza and dessert were already delivered from the best places he found in town. He had set up an endless supply of Olympian beverages spiked with nectar so that they felt the punch. He even invited the muses to perform there. He cleared a large space if they wanted to dance… or do something else. He even set up a brawling arena for the more hot-tempered guests. He had help from some very powerful mages to enchant the arena to stop the guests from using anything but their physical prowess.
Overall, he was proud. He had done a great job of planning a surprise party for Diana and her immediate and… extended family. Besides, it should be one hell of a welcome back for those who see him again. His thoughts were interrupted by the sharp ringing of the bell. Diana was on time. That should be expected. She had five millennia to practice being punctual. He raced to the door and opened it to a female cyclops. Well, a princess in a Cyclops costume who still managed to look gorgeous. Regardless of her poor fashion choices, he wondered if he should beg Aphrodite for her blessing. If only he could look this handsome. His face was practically enough to drive away any possible suitors. After all, he had two scars from the forehead down and one across his forehead. Not to mention his poor scarred body. The patchwork they formed would have made an exotic quilt if he was ever harvested for clothing.
"Aren't you going to let me inside, little brother?" an amused Diana asked. "Sorry Di. Still do not know how you manage to pull off looking so good in that horrific costume. If I didn't consider you my sister, I am sure I would be gunning for you. In fact, you will be in so much trouble tonight that I will enjoy this anyway." Diana noticed his mischievous streak was back with that twinkling in his eyes. Oh. He had something planned for this night. Tricked her into thinking it was going to be a dress up party. She was going to get back at him for that later. And she had correct his naughty, pranking ways. "I didn't know you had such… vivid imagination Percy. Perverted as you always were, I assumed I was clear off your radar. Frankly, I do not know if it should be taken as a complement or an insult." Diana said with mock anger and disappointment. Percy replied with a laugh, "Oh. I was just wondering how a five-millennium old goddess could possibly attempt any relations with mortals any way. Not to miss, you are way less experienced in that form of… combat shall we say? With you being an Amazon princess and all. I am telling you – not only are you missing out on a lot, but when you do take the plunge, you will be a certified cradle robber."
Diana's eyes widened in horror and then her expression changed sickeningly sweet. "The next time you refer to my age, you will wish you remained dead. And You still haven't denied my accusation of you being attracted to me. That should merit a punishment, should it not?"
"Alright. Alright. I give up. You win. Besides, I am jealous. Not attracted. I mean, I am a patchwork of battle scars, yet you pull off a garbage bag with ease. And any straight male above twelve would have to be visually impaired to deny your beauty. And as family, I have exclusive rights to tease you about it and get away with it." At this point, Diana was heavily blushing and still managing a frown at his words. Did he not know that he was handsome as well? Especially to warriors who knew how much scars increased his appeal? Maybe he was as lonely, if not more than her. After all, he did sacrifice everything for his love. Percy stopped her thought process with his next words. "Now, we need to get things going for the guests and children when they do come knocking. So, get in."
"What guests? I thought we were the only two tonight." Seeing the sheepish smile on his face, she realized what he did. "You didn't. Why would they even agree?"
"Isn't it obvious? Your mother and sisters miss you dearly Diana. And your mother also violently… threatened me if I did not invite her when the word of the invitation to the Olympian council for a mortal party reached her ears."
"The Olympian Council? Oh my lord. Percy! You should have told me. Now the Queen and all my patrons will see me in this ridiculous costume. If this is a prank, I swear I will make you regret it." Her eyes narrowed promising pain towards the end of that declaration.
A bright flash took her by surprise. She found a camera in his hands. He had taken a picture of her in this dress. "Relax. I am not that heartless. I just wished to capture some material for… leverage. I knew you have a terrible fashion sense. So, I being the kind-hearted, loving brother to the princess of the Amazons had employed the smith of the Gods to make you new and improved… clothing. It will be laid on the bed in the second room on the right. Go and see your attire for the evening."
Before he blinked, Diana had snatched and crushed the family under her boots. Raising an eyebrow, she said "Leverage did you say? I wonder. If that photo makes daylight…" The hanging threat did nothing to stop his amusement from overflowing. "That photo has been backed up several times Di. No matter what you do, it will not be erased. Remember that we have… reunited only for three weeks now? You have been threatening me about 10 times a day. At this point, I am largely immune. I am meant to be the playful brother Di. If you must get back at me, maybe you need to get a bit more creative. From what I have gathered so far, Amazons aren't creative enough to pull off a prank."
Diana's eyes took on a predatory glint. "Is that right? Let it be known that had the audacity to challenge and demean the Amazons. Mark my words, Perce. Retribution will be quite… devastating."
"All bark, no bite. Nonetheless, we shall see. Won't we? Besides, you have about 25 minutes before our guests arrive and you have a lot of stuff to do. For instance, remove that horrid makeup. I would make it quick if I were you. Wouldn't want the Queen Mothers to think their daughter is tardy, would you?"
Cursing him she hurried to her room and shut the door whose hinges bore the brunt of her annoyance.
40 minutes later.
The first ones to arrive was the Amazon Queen and her entourage of about 18 Amazons. Never one to beat around the bush, they quickly occupied the seats laid out for them, stashing their armour and weaponry in a vault that Perseus led them to. They were untrusting and hesitant initially but followed anyway when they remembered Diana considered him a close friend and brother. This was the first time they were meeting him, and they were not disappointed. His place was clearly luxurious, but not as big as the palaces on Themiscyra. His demeanour was welcoming and warm. He radiated familial attachment and bonding. Hippolyta decided to engage him, and he started telling his story. His life. His curse. His appearance on this plane. His demise and rebirth. All in short, brief yet enough to make them understand.
Then Diana made an appearance. She was resplendent. Glowing. Her armour was splendid and glowing golden. There were slots for her bows. There were holsters for her sword. The back quicker holders were also magnificently crafted into the armour. A shield holder was also incorporated into it. Unlike her previous armour, this covered her whole body. From top to bottom. It even had a helmet to keep her face covered. The armour was made of a composite of eight and tenth metal. It could withstand forces of gravity just near the event horizon. Of course, beyond it none could survive. So, no matter who tries to harm her, Percy would know that nothing penetrated that armour. Sure, large blows will cause internal damage but that is beyond the scope of her armour. Nonetheless, the expression on her face was worth it. She was overjoyed and delighted. It was the best gift she had ever received. She knew Perce was trying to make it up to her for staying away for nearly 40 years. Although she had insisted that she had forgiven him, any last vestiges of resentment she may have held subconsciously was decimated. The number of favours Perseus must have done for the forger must have been enormous. Not to mention the materials he needed to have collected. The effort that went into this would have been huge.
"Perce, I can't thank you enough. You didn't have to do any of this. I forgave you the moment you told me. It is I who has to ask for forgiveness when I was the one who broke your containment charm." Diana grew sad at the recollection of that event.
Flashback: January 21st, 1964
They were fighting a particularly nasty sea monster in Keto. However, Keto was twice the normal size, three times as powerful and far more perceptive and adaptive in combat. Hades had interfered and infused her with energy from the pit. Percy's curse had banished him from any active interference in goldy matters. She had to do it alone. She was losing. There is only so much she could do without going berserk.
And then the unholy happened. Keto managed to remove her protective bracelets. She had been training without bracelets but in short periods only while Percy taught her the subtle means of energy control he learnt from Chiron, and in the pit. But she was too frustrated. Unfocused.
And the energy from her began to expand dangerously. It didn't help that the state of conflict in the world was at an all-time high. Almost at the brink of nuclear war. Her domains were about to overcome her. She was struggling to contain them. Meanwhile, Percy came closer to try and help her cope. He was in full gear, trying to reason with her. Giving her instructions to help her focus her energy.
Keto saw an opportunity to take out the annoying pests once and for all. They had been chasing her for 14 days and no matter how badly she seemed to injure them, they just kept coming back. Curiously, the male never attacked. Only watched from the side-lines. Perhaps, he was the one nursing this freakish Amazonian nightmare back to full strength. Taking him out would destabilize her opponent leading to rash attacks and finally putting her down for good.
With a tentacle that had sharp pincers, she swiftly and sneakily reached for the male and caught him with her pincers. Her sharp movement broke his right femur eliciting a loud cry of pain. She was about to make him spend his final moments in her belly when there was a power shift and a huge energy wall hit her.
Percy's cry pushed her to the edge. Percy was a master combatant. The greatest swordsman Diana had ever faced. If need be, he could take on Keto alone. He had his own powers from birth and all the additional powers he gained over time. Slight control over the sky. Little more over conflict, time, and war. Much more over darkness, fear, and discord. Terrifying control over the earth, water, and misery. However, the gods of her world did not appreciate his powerful capabilities. Hence, they decreed that he would be contained. He was always one to give up power. So, he agreed without any hesitance. Hera, Athena, and Hecate fashioned a charm that was infused to his previously vulnerable spot in the lower back that restricted him from drawing on any of his abilities. It however did provide him with a small defence. It generated an energy shield to protect him. Thus, he was as powerless as a mortal against monsters, reliant on some external magical totem to keep him alive. There was no way he could even defend himself against creatures like Keto.
She looked up to see him almost swallowed by the monstrosity and saw Percy mouthing the words, "Let go." Seeing no other choice, she did. Rage overcame her. Energy walls exploded from her. All the pent-up tension and energy build up since WW2 broke the dam and come out. Even Hades's power could not save Keto. Its previously almost invulnerable, hardened scaly flesh began to sublimate. It was ripped, piece by piece and there was nothing that it could do other than retreat. Still clutching Percy, it began to dive deep into the water until a searing sensation caught one of its tentacles. She twirled the monster very fast and threw it at a nearby volcano. The power she exuded had cut-off all but one of its tentacles that had Percy in it. However, the shield that protected him was no longer there. And they both flew into the volcano's side. Fortunately, it was inactive. But the charm had been broken because of Diana's power overcoming the charm's. It was only a matter of time till his powers rushed back to him. He hadn't had them in twenty years. His body would not be able to take them. He was fully mortal now. Ageless, but mortal.
Diana was still in her berserker rage as she came to keto and started pummelling her it the ground. She did so until only a greenish-brown paste existed. She heard Percy calling for her. She didn't understand what he was saying at first. Slowly, she came back to her senses. Horrified about what she had done, she immediately rushed to Percy. He was completely charred and looked burnt to a crisp. He was beginning to glow in multiple colours. "Perce… Percy. Wait. I'll summon Apollo. He will help sort this out."
"Diana. Remember. Control is key. Focus (releasing pained grunts) … and channel it. Your domains are unique Di. (Grimacing and grunting) You have both sides of the coin. Only… Only, when you find balance, (stopping to take in a breath) can you channel it properly. This is not… your fault, Di. It was the only… way. (Pausing) Too much conflict since the war. You have contained it as much as you could. (Pause)
"Apollo cannot help me now. (grunting painfully) My powers are coming back. They will burn me up. The charm's broken. (Slowly) You need to bury me deep, somewhere else Di. Perhaps, under the ocean. Otherwise, I might cause a big earthquake. (Painful gasps) We are on the ring of fire. If I let loose… lot of people might die. (Pause) Father is the only one who can help, now. Seek him… and tell him to bury me deep... I have at best five minutes before I… explode. (Body starts glowing brighter, painful shout escapes) Now, Di. Do it."
Diana looks up at the sky while shedding tears immensely and yells in Ancient Greek, "Lord Poseidon! I call on thee to help me fulfil my task. In doing so, I ask you to grant me the favours you owe me. Please assist me to complete my obligations to the council and ensure their will."
Percy mutters, "I have always longed for a sibling, Di. (grunting painfully) I never thought I would gain one in another world. (gnashing his teeth and holding in a lot of pain) Thank you for everything, Di. Take care."
Diana heard him but was unable to respond as Poseidon took over her physical form. "I am so sorry, son. Diana says she heard you and considers you her little brother she never had. She asks for forgiveness for she lost control. (Pausing) I am proud of you Percy. You have been like a son to me and Hestia. I will pass along your love to her as well. Goodbye son."
"Tell Di that she didn't do anything wrong. She had to let go or the effects… (painful gasp) would have been more brutal later. It is my time, father. After a millennium… (pained breathing) I can finally embrace death. Goodbye, father. Goodbye sister. (teeth gnashing and struggling to speak) Goodbye Hestia."
Poseidon raised his hand and formed a protective cocoon around him. He vanished and reappeared on the island of Crete, inside a deep underground cave and placed it there. Knowing that the explosion was imminent, he teleported to Olympus in front of the hearth. Diana came back and retook control over her body. She looked to see tears from Poseidon's and Hestia's eyes.
They may be immortal, but they felt the immense impact he had on their lives in such a short period of time. Poseidon decided to never forget his other-worldly mortal son, for he re-established his faith in humanity. Hestia's loss was more profound. He had always had a very dark life before. She had hoped, this second chance of his would give him a brighter and happier future. In a way, it did. Even if he wasn't free to walk the earth but he gained family from it. He was truly happy and did not regret his end. And so, she must be too.
Back from memory land.
"You know it wasn't your fault. If I had stayed away from the battle, none of this would have happened. You did warn me multiple times. I was too stubborn Di. I truly am sorry for causing you so much grief. And I was afraid to barge into your life and rip open old wounds. I was stupid and in the name of keeping you happy, I was being selfish. I didn't want to know if you hated me. We didn't have the best of starts and I failed my promise to you.
"I couldn't think of any better present to give that would convey my apology and my sincerity as well as clear up any regrets between us two. Also, your armour was in a dire need of an upgrade. This has much of the modern stuff included into it in case you want missile attacks, a force field and even enhances your magical abilities manifold. It will also help you focus and control your metaphysical abilities.
"On my world, every God was built a godly weapon, an armour and a chariot. Their weapon was the symbol of their power and helped focus their enormous abilities. I realized you don't know about this and hadn't had one built or given. This armour I hope can be your symbol of power. It can also create a chariot from itself. It is made from advanced technology that only new gods of New Genesis and Apokolips have. It can transform into anything you command and so on. You can discover its immense features later Di." Diana surprised everyone, including her mother, when she gave Percy a crushing hug. Percy squeezed out, "Di… Your mom's here. And she is the Amazon Queen. Remember the no men policy?"
"She would just need to accept it little brother. In any case, I am sure she is delighted for her daughter having much better armour." Diana said after quickly releasing him and walking over to hug her mother.
Then, the door-bell rung once again that evening. "That should be our special guests for the night." Percy said while opening the door to reveal Ladies Hestia, Hera, Hecate, Athena, and Aphrodite as well as Lords Poseidon, Hermes, and Apollo. Immediately, the Amazons fell to their knees paying homage to their gods and respect to their patrons. All except Percy and Diana. "Lords. Ladies. Thank you for coming. I wish to officially proclaim to all of you, I am back from the dead. Please come in. And let's get this party started."
That night was one to be truly remembered. As all the immortals in the room happily shared stories, danced, wined, and dined as one big family, brought together by the special bond between Percy and Diana.
Thanks for reading guys. The next update will come in the next month.
Regarding Percy's powers and weaknesses. Percy was powerful by demigod standards. But he was never the strongest. Probably a bit more than an average human, but no godly strength. When he faced Kronos, he had the invulnerability curse that gave him the capability to go toe-to-toe with a subdued Titan Lord. Perhaps then you would point to Hyperion and Iapetus and various other examples. It was his elemental control and expert swordsmanship that allowed him to prevail. In his encounter with the Titan Atlas, without water present and the curse of Ares acting up, it was clear he couldn't combat Atlas. Also, none of them were at their full strength. Even though he held the sky, that was more his godly essence and strength of will that allowed him to carry it than anything else. Annabeth carried it for more time than him and that was explained as the strength of a maiden's spirit.
Percy is incredibly powerful due to his proficiency with his powers. Now he had 1000+ years to hone those skills in tartarus. Not to mention, the various other skills he picked up over the years were also enhanced. He is virtually unbeatable in battle if powers were to be used as the magic of this world has infused him with so much more power. Even slight control over certain elements gives him a huge boost in battle. He doesn't need super strength, invulnerability and other typical hero mojo, if he is already untouchable. However, every armour has a chink. And his sword, Riptide is his. It is what allows these powers to function and bound him to the celestial essence he has absorbed over the years. Small encounters do not count. Only extensive presence or some kind of related events allow him to absorb these essences. All the powers he has now is a result of something or the other based on extensive exposure or a specifically linked event.
The other common review seems to be that Percy is out of character or some dc character is not following source material. While I appreciate the sentiment, I am trying to make these characters into what I believe will be their stories and interactions. You may feel Percy's too dependent on Diana or Diana is way too OOC with Percy. But you do not know what led to these events. Twenty years is a long time and as far as family is considered, Percy has this effect on those who he cares about and those who care about him. He has repeatedly been shown to go way out of his capabilities to save his loved ones. The first 3 books are based on that. And the son of neptune with Annabeth's search and later on, Percy's jump into Tartarus for keeping his promise isn't excessive?
Coming back to the DC characters - I am not well versed with DC lore. In fact, I am at best an infant with DC lore. I only know the highlights. So maybe Diana's arc isn't close to cannon. But I do not consider her cannon stories to be a part of this universe. This is my imagination making the story and I believe the intense bond she shares with percy is completely possible. It is just so Percy to get that out of his family.
Also, in my view Diana is the strongest character in DC lore. She is the world's best combatant. Her weaknesses as made up in DC lore aren't that great to speak of in the first place. So, yes. Maybe she is a bit over-powered. She always was. I however, like her this way and she will remain so.
Talking of Batman, I understand his drive of the mission and his obsessive need for control and contingencies. I just do not believe the emotionless facade they potray him to be. He is not a sociopath. It is evident from his interactions with those he is truly close with, namely Alfred. I want to change his unfair potrayal from emotionally distant control freak to emotionally challenged and morally ambiguous human hero.
Percy has always been the recepient of great luck. Through out his character progression, he had the right circumstances, a lot of help, and incredible allies to get him through. He is by no means ordinary. He becomes extra-ordinary. But there has been a lot that went his way to make that happen. Sure. He will be able to fight Diana on an equal footing if he went all out with his elemental capabilities. But, just hand to hand combat, anything except swords, she will win.
Talking about Percy's encounter in the first chapter with the league and the team, it makes sense if you consider that he was deliberately playing them for fools. He was all over the place beacuse he wanted it that way. They didn't need to know about him as that would expose him to unnecessary scrutiny. His entire objective on this world is only two things - live peacefully and stop the world from dying out. Anything in between he won't care. His take on crime, pain and suffering are not along those of the league and the team. He is not a hero in this story. This story is all about the way he will adapt to a different life. Where he will guide others to be the best versions of themselves while he gains the much required peace he needs. This story is all about coming back from the edge of death and nothing to your name to create a meaningful life while respecting others wishes and helping them fulfill their desires. Of course, it will not be a good story without Percy Jackson action. He will be a hero in many subsections of the story, but most of the heroes of this story will remain with the original YJ material. Where necessary, it will change.
Also, I guess people have noticed a change in the writing style. I hope you enjoy it.
Until next time, people. Cheers and stay safe.
