Rei, along with the being, went far into the citadel, nothing visible except in scarce torchlight. The sunny land of Beulah was gone, and only a Cyclopean stronghold, a relic of the old evil of the world, remained to torment the eyes and soul.
About to cross the next bend to the hidden portion of the citadel, the being stopped.
"Once you go to the next room, my power cannot avail you. I will give you something that may aid you, but I wish for you to answer a few riddles at first. A old creatures sentiment, I'm afraid. Furthermore, you will need the qualities espoused in the riddles to succeed in what you are to do..."
The being raised its white arms, and gave the first riddle.
"Kings and rulers should govern by me, my mouth speaks what is true, and I detest ignorance. You who are simple, gain prudence, you who are foolish, gain understanding! I dwell along with wisdom, but wisdom is mightier than me, yet it cannot exist without me. Counsel and Judgement are based upon me, and Laws that are just are made in my word. I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. The Original One brought me forth as the first of His works, for I was appointed in Eternity past. Whoever finds me finds favour in the Original One, but whoever detests me with surely sink into the Tophet. What am I?"
Rei thought for a bit, and then came upon the answer.
"Well, I suppose Knowledge. If you are not Wisdom, than you must be its companion."
The being nodded, and lo! Another wondrous creature had appeared behind it. It had two tails, each encrusted by a red gem. Its face was partially yellow, and its head resembled a helmet. Its eyes were closed, and Rei knew that he would not wish to look into them.
"Correct." The new being said. "On to the next..."
"By me works are accomplished, and hardships are endured. All the deeds of Men and Pokémon are by me, for the bete has me within it. The hroa may not, as the number of creeping and crawling things about the Earth have not known me, and never shall. I am seen in the darkest times, if one may look for me, and use me to emerge from them. Blessed is ye who has me, and acts upon my authority, but only with Wisdom and Knowledge. Still, my counsel is darkened by evil deeds, and wickedness is also done through me. What am I?"
"Willpower, of course!" Rei cried. "Everything is done by Willpower."
Again, a new being appeared. This one had a mostly cyan face, with a red gem set in its brow, with two more gems in its tails. It had fae-like ears, and a conical head.
"Once more, you are correct. For the last one..."
"All have me, even those that do not think, for they would still be a slave to the passions of the body. By me, righteousness is perceived, and Evil is disdained. I am the Father of Joy, and the Mother of Grief. All the feelings of the hroa and bete are mine. But all these are like clanging cymbals or a noisy drum compared to my greatest child, which is Love. By Love, the Original One governs, and all of his Children are destined to perceive it. But still, the Evil One may twist me, as he may do all things. Fell deeds may be brought on by me, and the Sons of Perdition use me to fulfill their lusts, and earthly passions. What am I?"
"Emotion." Rei replied. "Love is surely the greatest of its fruits."
For the final time, a new being appeared, and the robed figure was gone, leaving the three glorious creatures levitating in the air. The last being had a magenta face, with four drooping appendages coming off the side of its head.
"We are the Lake Guardians, the Creators of Spirit!" All three roared. "We were the third of the creations of the Original One, after He made Himself, then Space, Time, and Antimatter! We, with all others, combine, thereby shaping the world! Only the Enemy comes after us, and all others. Blessed be the Original One!"
Then, rising out of the ground, was a small silver mattock. Rei was bidden to pick it up, and the trio of creatures parted.
"You will, in the central antechamber, see a frame of bronze. You are to cut a single brick from the amalgamation, and then leave as swiftly as possible. Perhaps you may even come back here one day, to do other deeds. Now, go!"
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
In the antechamber, a darkness was felt that was so strong, it was less of a environmental condition and more of a solid presence. A bronze frame was in the center of the vast room, like a gateway to another world. At the far end of the room were two great doors, closed tightly. By the side of the doors was a suit of armor, and a sword lying across its still lap.
Something moved, and Rei attempted to send out Typhlosion. The Capture Ball failed! Hurriedly, Rei then tried to send out Sneasler. No luck.
"Well, I suppose I can break the Balls, if I really am in trouble. Come out, whatever you are!"
A strange creature emerged from the shadows, hovering around the Portal.
It was light-purple, with green eyes and yellow sclerae. A yellow ring marked its forehead, and a small pink dot was under both eyes. It's dark pink hair was tied like a horses tail, and it bore two dark grey horns on the sides of its head, with two gold rings hanging freely on its horns. Its body had a dark pink, V-shaped marking on the chest and a small, golden spike on each shoulder. Its arms were not attached to its body, rather, they floated beside it. Each arm had a small golden spike similar to the shoulders. Its hand were mitten-like and dark pink rings were around each wrist. In place of legs, it had a wispy tail. Finally, a golden ring was around its midsection, and it bore a mischievous grin.
Rei brandished his dagger, only for it to fall out of his hand. The dagger fell into a golden ring that had appeared on the ground. The dagger then came flying down from the ceiling high above, sticking into the corrupted dirt.
"Did you do that?" Rei asked the creature. "Can you make portals to other places?"
The creature nodded, and gave a happy cry of; "HOOPA!"
"I will call you Hoopa, then." Rei responded. "So, what are you doing here, and what is this place? What is the purpose of that bronze frame over there?"
Hoopa's face fell, and then it started to psychically dig finely precise lines in the ground, making a series of pictograms and letters that corresponded to a kind of story. Frm what Rei could glean, Hoopa was trying to tell him this:
"I am friendly. But the Enemy put me here to make a new world. It isn't my fault that he makes me go Unbound. The demons built this place. The portal is complete. The Enemy wants to be more powerful in the new world. I can go here, but sometimes I am stuck while he experiments with me. Please break the portal!"
Seeing what he must do, Rei brandished the mattock and approached the portal.
He put the tool to a square corner of the frame, and started to cut out a brick.
The demons that were creating the spiritual and physical darkness had waited for this moment. No, the plan would not fail, not when it was nearing completion! The only way their master could defeat the Original One would be for a new creation to take place!
As soon as Rei made the first cut, the creatures attacked.
Fangs! Claws! Sulfurous breath! Swords of despair and hopelessness pointing for Rei's heart!
"FOR THE ORIGINAL ONE!"
The Host of Heaven had arrived! Cobalion took the lead, and a incredible battle began.
Spears of light clashed with the darkness of the demonic scimitars. Rolling waves of red smoke began to cover the room as demons fell, screaming, sputtering, going out. Great swords and attacks cut through midsections, heads, arms, legs, wings, tar flowing from the wounds. Zeraora had grabbed two demons by the legs and was using them like clubs, crushing their fellows. The Sacred Swords of the Swords of Justice roved about, no hell-forged blade able to withstand the light of the Swords of Heaven. The demonic warriors began to break, hundreds and hundreds of them fleeing, before being caught by a foe and cut into nothing.
After a time, no demons remained. All had been banished.
Rei was oblivious to the fight, although he felt the evil of the room lifting a bit. The mattock cut through the portal with ease, and soon a perfect brick was made.
When Rei pulled the brick out, there was a howling. The focus of the Enemy whirled to Beulah, and he saw that his plan had failed. Now, his doom lay on a narrow thread, his only hope to crush the greatest city of Men.
When Rei looked upward, putting the Brick in his pocket, the suit of armor and sword had moved in front of him. After a scare, he discovered that both were extremally light, and could be carried without to much burden. On the armor, a etched named said Eternity, while on the sword another said Instant.
For some reason, a door opened in the wall, and Hoopa seemed to want Rei to put the two objects in the space beyond. Rei did so, and the door closed again, sealing the two again until their legacy would be fulfilled in the far future.
Rei decided to put a note of what he had done on a wall, just outside of the antechamber. The mattock easily carved the walls, and the first read this:
I have stumbled upon this place, which I know to be a stronghold of the Enemy. It may be fading to some other world, as it grows more intangible by the moment. I take this to be a mercy. The malice emanating from this place was almost too strong to bear. As a male of learning, I have etched a message here, and I will return, I hope, to put the tale of my allies who struggled against the Evil Djinn, and eventually triumphed. I have discovered this strange bronze gateway, and I have cut a piece away from it to present to my masters, the Creators of Spirit. I swear I hear drums beating behind those doors.
The second read this:
I have seen it, and he can roam about world as it wishes. It is still a puppet for the Enemy, but should not share its guilt. This place fades nearly every moment, and perhaps it will be my greatest torment and obsession. If the Enemy ever acted upon this place, it would create a defeat even for the Original One. I have also found the armor called Eternity, and the Sword called Instant, and have sealed them away in a chamber. I will leave soon, and rest in the land of Beulah after all my purposes have been fulfilled. Blessed be He!
In future years, Rei would return to this place, just before it disappeared into the Other Side of the Word. He would leave the tale of the defeat of the Enemy, and his own fate. Both these messages were seen in the Domain of the Prince and Power of Antimatter far into the future, when the last wile of the Enemy nearly succeeded, as he would have done if Rei had not carved away the Bronze Brick.
Rei left to return to the Lake Guardians, and to forge the bottle.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit rejoiced upon Rei's return with the Brick, and bade him to give them the Legend Plate.
As they began to form the Prison, they spoke their praises.
"The Dust," Azelf said. "That is so rare in Deep Heaven, scattered whereof all worlds, and the lands that are not worlds, is at the centre of the Original One. It waits not till created eyes have seen it or hands handled it, to be in itself a strength and splendour of the Original One. He utters each grain of Creation, and they have at the centre of it the unsullied image of the Original One. Each part of the Whole, if they could all speak, would say; I am the centre of all, for me all things were made. Let no mouth open to oppose it. Blessed be He!"
"Where Arceus is," Uxie continued. "There is the center. The Creations are at the center. Worlds are at the center. Pokémon are at the center. The animals are at the center. The Children of Arceus are at the center. The race that sinned is there. The Enemy is there. The elohim are there. The Original One is in every place, not some of him in one place and some in another, but in each place the whole Arceus, even in the smallness beyond thought. There is no way out of the center, save to go into the Will of the Evil One who casts himself into the Abyss. Blessed be He!"
"All things are by Him and are for his Good," Mesprit said. "He utters Himself into being for his own delight, and sees that He is good with his Thousand Arms that Shaped the World. He is his Own and what proceeds from His will is from Him who is Himself. He has immeasurable use for each thing that is made, that His love and splendour may flow forth like a strong river, which had need of a great watercourse, and fills alike the pools and the little crannies, that are filled equally and yet remain unequal; and when it has filled the brims full it flows over and makes new channels of Grace. We also have need beyond measure of all that He had made. Love me, my brothers and sisters, for I am infinitely necessary to you, and for your and His delight I was shaped in my mothers womb. Blessed be He!"
The praises continued, making a Great Dance of worship and love as the Prison Bottle was forged further and further.
"Never did He make two things the same, never did He utter one word twice. After earth, not better earths but Pokémon, and after Pokémon not better Pokémon but spirits. After the Fall, not recovery but a New Creation. Out of the new creation, not a third but the mode of change itself is changed for ever! All are tied together by a kneeling to the sceptered love of Himself. He has no need at all of anything that is made. A elohim is no more needful to Him than a grain of Dust, a kingdom not any more needful than a land that is empty. All needless alike, what we add to Him is Nothing. Love me, my brothers and sisters, for I am infinitely unnecessary to you, and your love shall be like the Love of the Original One, born neither of my need nor my deserving, but a plain gift! Blessed be He!"
"They who would add years to years in endless aggregation, or miles to miles and galaxies to galaxies, shall never come near His greatness. The days and fields of the Earth are numbered, and Deep Heaven itself will fade. Not thus He who is the First. He dwells within the smallest seed of the smallest flower and is not cramped, Deep Heaven is inside Him and of Him, and it does not make him arrogant. He hath mastery over all, from Men, institutions, climates of opinion, civilizations, arts, love, sciences, and all else! Blessed be He!"
"Though Men, Pokémon, or elohim rule them, the lands are for themselves and Himself. The waters you have not floated on, the fruit you have not plucked, the caverns into which you have not descended and the fire through which your body cannot pass, do not await you to come to give them purpose, though they may obey you when you come. Times without number we have circled the Earth while you were not even alive, and those times were not empty. Of many times, one time, of many peoples, one people, of many senses and thoughts one person, of the Greatest Person, Himself. Blessed be He!"
"All that is made may seem planless to a darkened mind, because there are many more plans than are looked for. There seems no plan because it is all a plan, there seems no center because there is all a center. Yet this seeming is the end and final cause for which the Original One has spread out Time so long, and Space so deep, lest if we never met the Dark, and the wide Road of Destruction, and the question to which no answer can be conceived, we should have in our minds no likeness of the Knowledge, Emotion, and Willpower of the Original One, into which if any should drop into His thoughts for ever, none shall ever hear the echo, for he is Greater than Deep Heaven, Greater than the Abyss and lowest point of the Firmament, and infinitely greater than the Enemy! La! Alkar ana i Iluvatar o menel ar cemen! Blessed, blessed, blessed be He!"
And as the Legend Plate vanished at last, and the Prison Bottle was complete, Rei beheld the Great Dance above him, the Dance that He had ordained, and the one that does not perish, but increases in excellence for ever and ever. The Dance that the Stars and Worlds follow, all across What Is. The Dance that each movement had its own season, and in which plans without number interlock, the small things in their smallness and the great things in their greatness, complimenting Him Who Made The Dance, looped together by perfect unions of a Love That Makes The World Turn.
Rei thought he saw the Great Dance, made out of the mutually intertwined undulation of so many cords and bands of glorious light and elohim in Deep Heaven. He could see (although now the word 'see' is most inadequate) the ribbons of the cords and bands, where millions and billions of things lived and died across All That Is, in that Universe and Others, and the Being which the Original One is apart of, One that spans all Universes. The hard blue burning of the Plan and the Great Dance awoke him from his trance, and with a movement of relaxation...
Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit were gone. The Prison Bottle was complete, and in his hands. He was outside, in the tranquil land of Beulah, and his companions were rushing over to greet him.
