A Friendship Beyond Repair
Izuku was currently taking deep breaths inside the waiting room. the match to determine the winner of the sports festival was about half an hour later; the time was given so that the winner from the second match of the semi-final can rest their body for a bit, so they won't be at a disadvantage. This match would after all determine the winner of the sports festival.
This mattered little to the boy since this one was of personal importance to him; he was going to fight his childhood bully friend. The boy was not excited for many reasons. First, he was going to face one of his demons; the person who made his best to always berate him at every corner. Second, he always saw Bakugo as the personification of victory itself; to some extent, he saw him as the second coming of All Might. Third, he was feeling unexplainable anger toward his friend, especially after seeing what he did in the first round; he knew that Tokage put on a good fight, but he was very angry in the aftermath.
He wanted; no he hoped this match would be a new starting point in their relationship. Perhaps, Bakugo would begin to see him as an equal rather than someone inferior to him. it all depended at the end of the day on how he managed to win this fight to prove himself to the boy who he wanted his respect more than anything in the world.
In retrospect, he knew that he was hoping for too much. Bakugo has proven time and time again that he didn't only hate him, but he wanted him to disappear entirely from his life for all intents and purposes. The boy had shown it on many occasions, but Izuku couldn't help but want to fix the damaged friendship they had for more than personal reasons. Looking at it objectively, they were both planning to be heroes, so someday they might work together; that's why they need to mend their friendship for the sake of professional reasons.
He was now sitting thinking about the perfect way to defeat him as he looked at the door. He needed to have a reasonable strategy to defeat him; nothing too extreme but at the same time nothing that realistically can't work on Bakugo.
"Kacchan is a really strong combatant. His quirk is versatile, so it won't be easy to defeat him. I need to find a way to take him out quickly, since the more he fights the stronger his quirk gets for he sweats harder which increases his ammo. In theory, trying to tire him out is good, but I don't think that I can wait till he can't make another explosion." He picked up his notebook and began to read through its pages for a viable technique or weakness. He found one, but it was too violent. He suggested at one point that breaking Kacchan's arms would render him unable to use his quirk.
The boy gently shook his head as he looked for another way, but the door of his room was opened getting his attention. he looked and saw his friends standing there with huge smiles on their faces.
Tetsu came first and hugged him as he cried, "Man, you're going to the finals to fight that blasty bastard. I can't wait for you to beat his butt all over the field. Today, you make history by becoming the grand champion of class 1-B." he then ruffled Izuku's hair as the boy chuckled.
Setsuna smiled as she approached him, "Yeah greenie when you go out there, remember that the entire class is supporting even old grumpy pants who's currently sulking in the infirmary for losing his match against Baku-bitch." The girl also noted that Izuku didn't jump for Bakugo's defense like always, 'I suppose this is progress on his end.'
Izuku chuckled as he scratched his cheek, "Thanks for believing in me guys. I mean I'm not sure it can win this fight, Kacchan just isn't your average opponent. He's really strong, smart on his feet, and finally, he has a powerful quirk to top it all, but it means a lot that you're all supporting me." Izuku could still recall how people would berate for getting higher on a test than Bakugo and accuse him of cheating, but now he has people who believe that he can win a fight against him.
Kinoko began jumping up and down excitedly opposed to her usually timid nature. The girl began cheering him on, "I totally believe you can kick his butt, Izuku. I mean you're one of the strongest fighters in the class, and one of the favorites to win the entire sports festival. they call you the underdog of the hero course."
Izuku sweat-dropped saying, "I don't think that they know the meaning of 'underdog', because I'm sure that I'm not one."
Setsuna put a hand to her chin, "Well, I don't know about that greenie, but I'm sure that you'll win." She hugged him from behind causing steam to erupt from his ears.
Kendo laughed from the side adding, "And if you can't beat him using your quirk, there's always another way," the boy looked at her wondering where she was getting as she burst out laughing, "You can always kick his ass using the power of friendship like how you managed to beat Shinso." the green-haired boy groaned as it became a running gag in his class that his real quirk is 'the power of friendship' especially given how he managed to befriend Shinso right after their fight.
Tetsu rubbed the back of his neck, "I don't think that would work. I'm sure that moron is immune to Mido-bro's friendship power given that he stated that he loathes Mido-bro on many occasions, and he isn't shy showing it either." He said reminding everyone of the cafeteria event.
Setsuna hummed as she agreed with Tetsu, "Yeah, I think friendship power is just too weak to win this fight with Baku-bitch as cool as it sounds." She chuckled as she had the mental image of Izuku blasting Bakugo with an attack she dubbed 'The Friendship Beam'.
Izuku groaned weakly, "Come on guys, I don't have the power of friendship. You're gonna make villains laugh at me if word gets out that my quirk is named like that." this caused them all to laugh as Izuku pouted at his friends looking away faking his annoyance, but eventually joined them.
"You keep saying that, but believe me one day…" Kendo began to talk as she was interrupted by the door being slammed open. They all looked to see an angry-looking Bakugo standing there.
The boy looked around as she asked them, "Hey, what the fuck are you shitty extras all doing in my waiting room?" he saw Izuku and felt the urge to attack him, but pushed it down knowing that their match will begin so enough, and he can pound the answers right out of him.
Itsuka crossed her arms huffing, "First, it's Midoriya's waiting room." the boy looked at the sign, and true enough he was in the wrong waiting room, "Second, who are you calling extras when two of my classmates proved to be your equals and almost defeated?" The boy growled at her but didn't do anything that might get him into trouble.
Setsuna looked at him and flinched as she looked at her arms. Right now, they were halfway under her elbows, but it still hurt remembering how she was defeated in a flash. She shook her head, "As why we are here? We're cheering greenie before he goes to kick your butt in the finals." This statement alone made Bakugo release some small explosions for his hands, but he saw a camera narrowing its lens at him, so he calmed down.
The boy took a deep breath, "Dream on extras. As if Deku can ever beat me in a one-on-one fight. He's too much of a coward hiding his quirk from me all these years, but I will pound the answers right out of him. no one makes a fool of me and lives to tell the tale."
Setsuna blinked as Kinoko said, "For the record, he got his quirk on the entrance exam."
The boy let out a small explosion scaring the girl, "That's bullshit and you all know it. quirks appear when you're 4 or 6 at max, not when you're goddamn 15. That bastard laughed behind my back for 10 years thinking that he's better than me."
Kendo clapped her hands as she talked, "Wow, I never knew that you're a quirk scientist, Bakugo." The boy growled at her remembering the same line the pony-tailed wretch from his class told him, "You aren't one. Good, so don't around throwing assumptions left and right."
Bakugo wanted to attack her; he did, but he knew the consequences of his actions, so he spoke, "As if some weak-ass extras will ever understand." They all looked at him as he carried on, "You're all a bunch of weaklings who made it into the hero course through charity with your weak quirks. You'll understand the reasoning of the strong. Hell, you're all in the forgotten class of the hero course. The media didn't even report that you were there at the USJ, because they wanted and knew that the real deal is in class 1-A, not some weak morons with what; hand enlargement, steel, mushrooms, and splitting your own body," He laughed, "even you know that you'll always be extras, and you'll never make it…" he looked at Setsuna and said, "though I'll hand to you, you did give me a good fight."
"SHUT UP," Izuku yelled at him shocking everyone given that he was silent the entire time, "I won't allow you to insult my friends, Kacchan. You can insult me all you want, but I won't accept you insulting my friends. They all make wonderful heroes, and All Might always says that 'the quirk doesn't make the hero, it's his spirit that makes him a hero'."
Bakugo stared at him as smoke began to erupt from his hands, "Deku, you bitch. How dare you talk ba…" Nezu's voice came through the speakers, "Young Bakugo, I think that you spoke your mind. Now leave before you're disqualified for disrupting your opponent's preparation time."
The boy shook in silent rage as he walked away, but looked at Izuku one last time, "Bring your best at the field, Deku, because I'm going to beat the ever-living shit out of you." The boy stomped away from the room.
Izuku looked at his friends and said, "Please guys. Don't take what he said seriously. I know for a fact that you'll all make awesome heroes one day. Your quirks are really amazing." The boy was met with silence so he asked them, "Guys, are you alright?" he was then smothered in a group hug.
Tetsu cried out, "Man, the way you defended us is so manly. How you stood up to that jerk for us is really inspiring." Izuku chuckled as Tetsu continued crying manly tears at him.
Setsuna then said, "Greeine, while I respect what you did for us, please don't allow anyone to insult you too. You're a human being just like us and no one has the right to insult you and get away with it." the girl could tell that Bakugo has caused Izuku to form some sort of martyr complex where he thinks that it's okay to get hurt protecting others, "Greenie, you're my friend okay so please don't do that again. If you keep down that path, you might get hurt and end your hero career before it begins." The boy looked at her with a thoughtful look as he nodded his head.
Izuku said, "But isn't self-sacrifice the essence of a hero?"
Kendo spoke up, "True as that might be, there's a difference between self-sacrifice and hurting yourself, but still thanks for standing up to us. It was really nice of you." He looked and saw Kinoko nodding her head shyly. His friends then left the room wishing him good luck.
He was about to exit after he heard Present Mic calling out for him and Bakugo to go out to the ring to begin the final match of the sports festival. the boy exited his room as he saw someone walking toward him. Kamakiri was heading his way as he sported an icepack on his head.
Izuku asked him frantically, "Kamakiri, are you sure you should be out of the bed? You took quite the beating in the match." the bug boy looked at him before he sighed, "I'm fine, just a little headache and my hands hurt…" he shook his head, "Anyway, I came to tell you something…"
Izuku nodded, "So what are you planning to tell me, Kamakiri? And can you make it quick because I have to go?" the bug boy still dazed nodded his head, "Well, nothing much, but all I want to say is that you go out there and beat blasty's butt and make our class proud."
Izuku flashed him a smile as he ran toward the ring, "You can count on it, Kamakiri. See you on the podium." Izuku was out of the bug boy's field of vision in a few moments when Togaru said, "It's going to be a bloodbath between these two. Well, I guess I have to wait to see what happens." The boy himself then walked toward his class's booth grumbling about a killer headache.
In the ring, Present Mic's excitement can be heard oozing through the voice system as he practically screamed, "HELLO THERE, SPORTS PEOPLE, ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS I AM FOR THE FINAL FIGHT OF THE ANNUAL U.A. SPORTS FESTIVAL?" the crowds began to cheer happily as they roared in excitement mirroring Present Mic, "SO WITHOUT ANY INTERRUPTIONS, LET'S INTRODUCE OUR FIGHTERS. ON ONE HAND, WE HAVE THE SAVAGE OF CLASS 1-A, THE LORD OF EXPLOSIONS, THE HARBINGER OF DESTRUCTION, KATSUKI BAKUGO" Bakugo walked to the ring with an almost manic smile on his face, "ON THE OTHER SIDE, WE HAVE MY PERSONAL FAVORITE TO WIN, THE GREEN LIGHTING WIELDING FIGHTER OF CLASS 1-B, THEIR VICE PREZ, MAKE WAY TO IZUKU MIDORIYA." Izuku walked onto the field shyly waving his hand to all the people cheering for him before looking at Bakugo who ran his finger across his neck.
In 1-B's booth, Itsuka looked with worry at the ring. She looked and saw that the rest of her class was sharing the sentiment, even Kamakiri who was antagonistic toward Izuku at the beginning of the year was nervous. She took a deep breath before saying, "Let's not lose hope guys. Midoriya can do it if we believe in him." the others nodded their heads, and she saw Ibara begin praying for his victory.
In 1-A's booth, everyone was excited for the final match as Mina said, "Yeah, this going to be an awesome fight between men."
She heard a snort as she looked at Monoma who said, "Are you dumb, or just acting like it?"
She quickly fired back, "Hey, if you hate 1-B so much don't insult me…" he cut her off saying, "I'm not talking about 1-B here. I'm talking about you calling the oncoming fight awesome because it's anything, but awesome given what I heard about those two brief but alarming interactions."
Ochako asked tilting her head, "What do you mean, Monoma?" the boy didn't look but only replied, "This fight down there is going to be a blood bath. Mark my words."
In the teachers' booth, Vlad was sitting there watching the beginning of the match with a frown. Snipe asked him, "Mate, aren't you supposed to be happy that one of your students made it to the finals?" the man looked at him before looking away.
Vlad sighed, "I am very proud of Midoriya. I really am, but this fight is going to be heavy on him for multiple reasons." The other teachers looked at him as Hound Dog spoke, "It's because he's facing off against his school bully, right?" the blood quirk user nodded his head.
Vlad said, "I just hope that the match down there doesn't turn into a blood path between them."
Thirteen gave her opinion, "I mean I'd expect that from Bakugo, but Midoriya, he's one of the sweetest kids I've ever…" she was cut off by Ectoplasm, "But what if he finally snaps?" everyone looked at him as he explained, "Every one of us has a breaking point, and what if Bakugo finally manages to make Midoriya reach his breaking point. No one is immune to anger after all."
All the teachers looked in silence at the ring hoping that things won't go south in this fight.
In All Might's booth, the blond hero looked at the fight with worry. The true records of Aldera Junior High have drawn a very dark picture of what happened behind its walls, and most of the horrors were directed to his successor through Bakugo. The man was never filled with rage as the moment he read the horrible stuff his successor was forced to endure, but this fight was a battle of wills between the two, and mostly on Izuku's part.
His teacher looked at him and said, "Calm down, he'll do fine, but he has to control his emotions."
In the ring, Midnight made her way to the stand and announced, "Welcome to the final match of the day that marks the end of the first year's sports festival." she looked at both boys, "Listen here boys, I don't anything reckless. I don't want anything that may threaten the other's life. I don't want any stunts. Am I clear?"
Izuku nodded while Bakugo said, "Get on with it, you old hag." the boy felt a cold chill travel down his spine as he looked at Midnight who said with an eerie smile, "What did you say?"
The boy quickly corrected himself, "I mean beautiful young woman." The woman nodded her head, "I thought so," she lifted her whip and threw it down yelling, "Begin the final match."
The moment Midnight finished, Bakugo launched himself across the field with his explosions yelling, "DEKU, YOU BASTARD, IT'S PAYBACK TIME FOR LOOKING DOWN ON ME."
The boy reached Izuku and he attacked him with an explosion. He was shocked when Izuku caught his hand and pointed it to the sky. He then grabbed Bakugo and kneed him in the stomach. The boy was taken aback as he looked at Izuku and was shocked that the boy he bullied so much was the one to first draw blood.
Bakugo looked up as he sent an explosion in Izuku's face sending him backing away. Bakugo stood up with an almost manic grin, "So it seems hanging with those extras helped grow a spine, too bad I'm about to beat you back to your old cowardly self after you tell me, where the hell did you get this quirk from." He went toward Izuku and sent a right hook, but was shocked when the boy grabbed his arm and threw him over his shoulder slamming him into the ground.
Izuku replied, "I don't so, Kacchan." The boy activated his quirk at 10% lifting the boy and punching him in the chest sending him flying across the field, "You always start with a right hook. I studied you and your fighting style for years. There's nothing that you can do that can surprise me."
Bakugo stood up as he smiled, "You said there's nothing I can do that can surprise you. Well, let's put this theory of yours to the test." Bakugo used his explosions to fly at Izuku. The boy aimed an explosion toward Izuku's face while the boy put up a defense, but he then used said explosion to maneuver himself midair going to Izuku's side and trying to blast him.
Izuku saw this and reacted on time as he dodged the explosion, but Bakugo never gave up as he sent another explosion his way hitting him in the face. Bakugo grinned and carried with the onslaught blasting him in the chest and back. He went for another hit, but a strong burst of wind almost knocked him out of the air and the ring altogether, but he managed to stabilize himself.
Izuku then made his way toward Bakugo and yelled, "Detroit Smash" he said punching the boy in the face, but the boy in return let out an explosion in Izuku's face.
Both boys looked at each other as they raced toward the other. Bakugo yelled, "SO DEKU, TELL ME WAS IT FUN TO LOOK DOWN ON ME FOR SO LONG?" he tried to send an explosion, but Izuku ducked under his hand, before trying to get an uppercut which Bakugo dodged.
Izuku replied, "What are you talking about, Kacchan?" Izuku dodged an explosion from above his head before he rolled away from another one only to jump to aim a kick.
Bakugo put up a defense blocking the kick. He then dodged and rolled away from a finger flick as he screamed, "DON'T LIE TO ME, YOU PIECE OF SHIT. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. WAS IT FUN HIDING YOUR QUIRK FROM ME FOR SO LONG?" he then flew toward the confused boy and launched a stun grenade in Izuku's face.
Izuku managed to avoid the blinding flash of light, but for all his effort Bakugo managed to blast him in the back, but Izuku managed through the pain to turn around and grab Bakugo by the legs and drag him back sending him to the ground.
Bakugo reacted quickly as he rolled away from Izuku, and said, "Playing tough, huh?" he went flying into the air as he blasted himself toward Izuku, "That won't do nothing." He blasted the boy with a huge explosion, and landed on the ground, "Come back from this."
The boy was then sent flying back as pain erupted from his stomach. Izuku stood where Bakugo was standing with smoke coming off his body from the explosion he was hit with as he said, "You were saying, Kacchan. Come on, I thought that you were the best. What happened to that?"
Bakugo stood up and wiped some blood from his mouth as he said, "That's quite the mouth on you, Deku. But you forgot your place. Allow me to remind you of your place." He raced toward him and blasted him in the chest, but he was then tackled to the ground as his feet were swiped from under him after Izuku managed to recover. He was then punched in the face.
Izuku tried to grab Bakugo's arm and tried to twist it but he was blasted off by Bakugo who yelled, "Deku, you bastard, you trying to reach the level of the best. You can't win this so why don't you give up, Deku." He blasted Izuku in the face followed by the chest and the legs as he said, "I wanted to do this to you from the moment I laid eyes on you. Not only have you been playing me for an idiot, but you've also been looking down on me."
Izuku wobbled a little, but shook his head in enough time to avoid an incoming explosion, and ducked under yelling, "I never lied to you, Kacchan. Why can't you believe me? I just want us to be friends again." He jumped to the air using his 'Burst style' and tried to perform an axe kick, but Bakugo saw it coming and blasted him midair causing him to fall to the ground.
Izuku stood up groaning in pain. He shook his head and saw Bakugo coming with his right hand preparing a right hook. He knew that the boy won't go for it since it was too obvious so he ducked under the hit before going for an uppercut.
Bakugo gritted his teeth because he was hit again by Izuku and said, "I don't need your crappy friendship, Deku. Right now, I want to beat you so bad that they have to stop this fight." He soared through the sky, "WHERE THE HELL DID YOU GET YOUR QUIRK?"
Bakugo flew toward him, but he didn't explode the boy, but he grabbed his arm with his right as he used his left to blast his way around twirling Izuku with him, before grabbing the boy and throwing him over his shoulder, "I want answers, and I want them now, Deku."
Izuku groaned as Bakugo jumped on him, but he grabbed his hands and head-butted him, before leaping away from the now-angered blond, "I always saw you as the symbol of victory, Kacchan. That's why I can't lose against you today. You were always, so awesome, so I have to defeat you."
Bakugo lunged at him, "Shut the fuck up, Deku." The boy was surprised when Izuku dodged him grabbed his shirt and elbowed him in the back. Izuku then hugged him from behind and tried to perform a suplex, but Bakugo blasted his way free from it.
"Give up, Deku. There's no hope for you to win." Bakugo said with explosions coming off from him. Izuku only chuckled as he raced toward him.
From the commentator's booth, Present Mic yelled, "WHAT A FIGHT BETWEEN MEN? AM I RIGHT PEOPLE?" the crowds began to cheer as he carried on, "BOTH BAKGUO AND MIDORIYA ARE PUTTING ON THEIR BEST EFFORT TO WIN THE FIGHT. BOTH TILL NOW ARE MAKING RECOVERY GIRL SCREAM IN ANGER FOR THE WOUNDS THAT THEY MANAGED TO COLLECT." He then looked at Aizawa, "Tell me, Aizawa my friend, how proud are you of Bakugo, right now?"
Aizawa said, "He is doing this from his own personal effort. I have to admit though that he's one of my best students and his chances of winning the sports festival are quite high, but that doesn't mean his opponent is someone he can push over. It appears now that both of them are fighting each other with the intent of absolute victory. Only at the end of the match, we'll know who's going to be the victor of this match."
Present Mic's grin could be felt through the speakers as he announced, "Well, you heard it folks; Eraserhead's favorite student is Katsuki Bakugo. Must make the other students feel jealous."
Aizawa rolled his eyes at his friend's silliness as he continued to observe the battle. He was very much invested in the fight because he wanted to see what will happen when those two are pinned together. Right now, it paints a very dark picture. While Bakugo is trying to harm Midoriya as much as he can, the other boy is pulling back his punches and trying to reason with him. was he trying to work out their problems in a fight? Eraserhead heard about this but thought it was ridiculous, so he just carried on watching.
In 1-B's booth, everyone was clinging to their seats watching the brutal match as Kinoko whimpered, "Izuku is taking quite the beating down there. I feel really bad for him. Bakugo is really strong, and he ain't giving a breathing room to hit back."
Kendo stated, "Midoriya also seems to be holding back and trying to talk with him for some reason. This is causing him to get hit multiple times, and Bakugo seems to be taking advantage of this." Itsuka seemed to have a vague idea of what Izuku was trying to achieve and felt bad for him. Bakugo seemed like the type that was too prideful to even acknowledge him.
Setsuna looked at the fight with worry in her eyes as she watched Izuku get blasted in the face, but smiles a little when he punched him in the gut before throwing him over the shoulder.
Kamakiri jumped on the rails as he yelled, "Come on, stutter. Stop wimping around and beat the ever-loving shit out of this moron. Make us look good."
Tetsu joined him, "Yeah, come on Mido-bro. kick his ass. Show him who is class 1-B and send him flying into next week." other members of 1-B cheered him on, while the quieter members somehow brought signs and held them trying to cheer him on.
In 1-A's booth, the hero class of 1-A bit their lips watching the fight unfold. Monoma rubbed the back of his head as he sweated a little bit, "As I said, this is a blood bath." Everyone nodded.
Ochako spoke up, "Why are they fighting like that? I thought that this was a match of destined rivals, not a blood match between two guys." The girl was shocked when Momo responded, "I thought the same thing too. Even with the initial interaction, I thought Bakugo was just angered about seeing a rival of his that managed to enter U.A. against his wishes, but his words when we were going to the USJ made me rethink this entirely. He called him 'Deku' which usually means useless. He said that Midoriya at some point was quirkless, and well, it didn't take too much to put two and two together; Bakugo right now is somehow helping his ego recover from an act of someone looking down on him according to his mind. this is just a bully trying to make sense of his victim becoming stronger. He wants a sense of normalcy in his life."
Kirishima stood up for Bakugo's defense, "Come on guys, Baku-bro isn't like that. he's a manly guy. I think that Yaoyorozu has the wrong idea."
None of the others replied to him, but they only continued to watch the match.
In the teacher's booth, Vlad was standing over the railing yelling, "COME ONE, MIDORIYA. SEND HIM TO LALA LAND. MAKE HIM SLEEP UNTIL NEXT WEEK."
In All Might's booth, the man was watching anxiously as he watched his successor get blasted over and over again and keep getting up, "I have to admit that young Midoriya has some serious tolerance." He then saw his successor dodge under a hit, and reply with a sloppy spinning kick.
Gran's only remark was that he needs to work on his form better, and he needs to work on his kicks since he's trying to incorporate them into his arsenal.
In the ring, an explosion covered the entire place with smoke. Izuku was sent flying out of it to the ground. Bakugo smirked as he looked down on him, "Tell me, Deku; will you quit the hero course now as I told you in junior high that I'm the only one who'll become a hero from that miserable piece of shit."
Izuku stood up, "I'm not going to back down Kacchan. I'm not so pushover anymore. I'm not Deku anymore. I will win this." He raced toward Bakugo aiming a punch, but the boy dodged and exploded him at the same time as he said, "You know Deku. that's why I hate you so much. You just don't know when to quit. Every time I beat you down, you just keep standing up again. I really hate that about you. Why can't you be a good pebble on my way to greatness and stay down?"
He then grabbed the boy and threw him over his shoulders causing him to smash against the ground. Bakugo then went exploding over and over again as he said, "You've always been looking down on me, Deku. Ever since that day in the river, you've looked down on me. you may act nice, but I was always on to you. This was the only way you can trick me, huh?"
"Kacchan, do you need help? Are you hurt?" a four-year-old Izuku asked Bakugo after he fell into the stream. While Izuku's eyes were filled with concern, Bakugo saw them filled with ridicule.
The boy carried on, "Hiding your quirk from me. making yourself like some type of loser just because you don't want anyone to know that you have a quirk."
Izuku was sent to the ground by an explosion from Bakugo who was laughing at him. "Hey, Deku, watch where you're walking, or else you might fall down and hurt yourself." He then walked away leaving an injured Izuku to moan in pain at his various injuries.
Bakugo stopped, "But you know something; I really feel sorry for auntie. I really wish she had a better son than your useless ass. Tell did you have fun making her suffer for pretending to be quirkless? was it funny seeing her ridiculed because you wanted to look down on me? speak Deku, speak. I'm ordering you." Bakugo lifted his left hand to send another explosion.
Izuku sat in front of the computer looking at it as he cried and asked his mom, "Can I still be a hero?" the words he heard that day left a very huge wound in his heart for a very long time.
Izuku didn't know what happened inside him, but he could've sworn that he felt something deep inside snap. Hate coursed throughout his entire body; he never knew it was there. But it was; he always felt it, but he pushed it deep down. He always managed to keep it under control, but today it was unexplainably stronger than before. Maybe, it was because he watched his best friend get blasted harshly, or perhaps Bakugo saying he pitied his mother, but the anger was there, and there was no hiding it.
Bakugo didn't manage to land the hit as Izuku grabbed his hand, and began squeezing it hard as he asked darkly, "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SAY?" An audible snap followed that as Bakugo backed away from Izuku holding his hand as hissed in pain now at the broken appendage. He was then grabbed by Izuku and thrown to the ground as the smaller boy began to wail at him, but the boy began to speak to him as he punched him
"YOU THOUGHT THAT I PRETENDED TO BE QUIRKLESS MY ENTIRE LIFE JUST TO PISS YOU OFF. YOU THINK THAT ALL THE TORTURE THAT I ENDURED AT YOUR HANDS WAS A JOKE TO ME." The boy said as the tears formed in his eyes remembering the horrible he has been through, "AND TO TOP IT OFF, YOU'RE CLAIMING TO FEEL SORRY FOR MY MOTHER. HOW DARE YOU MOCK HER LIKE THAT? DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH SHE SACRIFICED FOR ME OR ARE YOU SAYING THIS JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU CAN?"
Bakugo growled as he blasted him off, "Shut the fuck up, Deku. You've been the one to look down on me. you deserve everything that ever happened to you since that day at the stream…"
"SHUT UP." Izuku yelled standing up again as tears finally fell down, "IT'S CALLED BEING A HUMAN BEING. I WASN'T LOOKING DOWN ON YOU. I NEVER DID. I ONLY WANTED TO HELP YOU, BUT GOD FORBID THAT SOMEONE EXTEND THE HAND OF FRIENDSHIP TO YOU, BECAUSE ALL YOU NEED TO A BUNCH OF GROUPIES KISSING YOUR ASS 24/7."
Bakugo screamed, "Shut the fuck up. You're always been in my way. A pebble that I needed to help it learn its place. Don't blame me for your fucking mistakes."
"When I was in your way? I never bothered you. I always avoided you and yet you always sought me out for some goddamn reason. If I was happy, you'd come just for the pure purpose of ruining my day." Izuku clenched his fist as the green lighting became brighter, "I always tried to be your friend. I always praised you and saw the hero in you, and in return, you always ruined my day just for having my own dreams. And to top it off, you even told me…"
"if you want to be a hero so much, there might be a way," Bakugo said as he walked away from downed Izuku, "Just pray that you have one in your next life, and take a swan dive off the roof."
"…to kill myself. Do you know how it hurts to see the person who I once saw as a brother tell me that I need to kill myself just to follow my dreams?" Izuku dried his tears, "But no more, I won't allow you to hound me, mom, or even my friends anymore."
Bakugo was taken aback for a moment, 'He called me, Bakugo.' He then shook his head as he yelled, "Fucking die, Deku." He sent an explosion with his right arm, but Izuku dodged quickly as he slid under it. Izuku replied by punching him in the chin, before grabbing his right shoulder and popping it out of its socket making Bakugo howl in pain.
In 1-B's booth, Tetsu said, "I never seen Mido-bro so angry. In fact, I don't think I ever saw him angry. What the hell did Bakugo say to make Midoriya lose his cool so much?"
Everyone looked at Shishida who has enhanced hearing. The beast boy shook his head, "As much as I like to tell you, but this is the privacy of sir Midoriya." Everyone then began to urge him to spill as Setsuna looked over the rails and said in a quiet voice, "Greenie, be fine."
In 1-A's booth, Jiro looked down with a scowl as she asked Shoji, "Did you hear what Midoriya said?" the gentle giant of 1-A nodded his head as they both continued to watch the match.
In the teacher's booth, Ectoplasm said, "Whatever Bakugo said, must have set off Midoriya. I mean I expected it, but not this much. This demands a deeper look into their history." The others nodded their heads in agreement.
In the ring, Bakugo threw another explosion biting back a hiss of pain from his left, but Izuku grabbed his face and kneed him definitely breaking his nose.
The boy then backed away as the green lighting arching over his body grew more erratic. The boy jumped out of the field and landed on the wall of the stadium.
Bakugo saw this and his eyes widened. He remembered the attack from earlier, and he had to admit that it was devastating; he had to stop it, but with a broken hand and his quirk reaching its limit, it seemed impossible. Add to that, it seems his opponent was now working on rage.
The boy didn't get to think twice as he saw something flash by him as he punched him in the face sending him onto his butt. The boy stood up and exploded in a direction, but another hit came onto his back. It was then followed by a hit to his gut.
The hits were falling onto him like raindrops inside a storm. The hero student was now blinded as he blasted his explosions in random directions. Finally, the ground under him shattered into million pieces as he looked up and saw Izuku raising his leg as he said, "25% percent; Shoot style: Manchester Smash" the boy performed an axe kick causing a huge cloud of dust to form.
Izuku walked from it as he looked at Midnight expecting her to end the match. but he was startled when an explosion hit him in the back. Bakugo, who managed to dodge the kick at the last second, but was still affected by the aftermath, stood before him growling like a demon, "Nice move nerd, but you're gonna need more than that to beat me."
Bakugo went to a hit only to be kneed in the stomach by Izuku, and be thrown over his shoulder, "Enough Bakugo, you're already beaten. Give up. You lost." Izuku didn't expect this to work, but in his mind, it was worth the shot.
Bakugo didn't see it this way as he stood up, "Are you looking down on me? do you think I need your help in this fight? Fuck you, Deku. I'm the one who decides when this fight ends," he then jumped into the air and began to rotate, "And I say it ends now." The cloud that he formed was larger than that he used against Kamakiri by a respectable size.
Izuku on the other hand readied himself as he reared back his fist and said, "Detroit" at the same time Bakugo yelled, "Howitzer"
The two attacks then met head-on as both boys yelled, "SMASH" "IMPACT"
A huge cloud settled down on the ring as even Midnight and Cementoss didn't have the slightest idea who might have won. Once the cloud settled, it was shown that both Izuku and Bakugo were on the ground facing down. Midnight was about to announce a draw till she saw them both move.
Cementoss moved to her and said, "We can't allow them to go further. They might hurt themselves."
The R-Rated hero nodded her head, and announced the winning condition, "Whoever stands up first is the winner of the sports festival."
Both Bakugo and Izuku struggled to stand up, but Bakugo with one broken hand and his shoulders were both dislocated from his attack, and Izuku's attack, fell down face first into the ring. Only Izuku was left, but he was tired himself. He didn't have any idea if he can even stand up.
"You can do it; Mido-bro. don't give up. Show them how manly you are." Tetsu screamed for him.
"Stand up, Izuku. Win the fight. You're so close. Don't give up just yet" Kinoko cheered him up.
"Midoriya, come on dude. Don't give up. You're our class's ace. Stand up already." Kendo cheered him. he didn't want their trust to be broken so he steadied his feet onto the ground. "Come on, Greenie. I know that you can do it. I believe in you." The boy then forced himself to stand as he raised his clearly bruised and possibly broken left arm imitating All Might.
Midnight strolled over to Izuku who was a minute away from passing out, "And here you have it, folks. The winner of U.A.'s annual sports festival for the first years is Izuku Midoriya."
In her home, Inko Midoriya had tears in her eyes as she cried out, "Izuku, my baby, I'm so proud of you." She then let out fountains of tears causing the neighbors to yell, "THIS IS THE SEVENTH TIME THIS DAY THAT SHE FLOODED THE APARTMENT COMPLEX."
However unknown to everyone, Izuku was crying as he fell to the ground wondering how this could've gone all wrong. He felt like he was the one who lost at the end of the day.
Bakugo laid beside him as he stared at the sky in an almost catatonic state, 'I lost to Deku.' The boy felt numb on the inside. He was always praised for being the strongest, but now he lost to someone he always saw as nothing, but an annoying moron with dreams too big for his head. That wasn't possible, but he just heard it. he didn't care that he was being hauled to the infirmary; he only wanted to know how was that possible. How he, Katsuki Goddman Bakugo, lost to Deku?
Present Mic's voice came through the speakers, "WELL, THERE YOU HAVE FOLKS. THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR'S SPORTS FESTIVAL FOR THE FIRST YEARS IS IZUKU MIDORIYA OF CLASS 1-B. PLAY STAY TUNED FOR THE AWARD CEREMONY."
Aizawa's phone then buzzed. He looked at it and it was from Midnight. She sent him a message that read, 'We need to talk about your student, Bakugo. I heard some disturbing stuff during the fight between the two boys.' The man sighed as he hated when Bakugo was involved. As much as Midoriya was one, Bakugo was even a higher one. At least the former tried to steer clear out of trouble, he could give him that.
All Might was running in his deflated form like a madman. Recovery Girl has texted him telling him that something was wrong with his successor except for the fractured and broken arm and a fractured leg he was sporting right now. He reached the infirmary and pushed his way through. He didn't see Bakugo so he assumed that he already left.
The blond looked at his successor who was hugging his legs and sat staring at the bed silently. The hero asked the old heroine, "What happened to him? Why is he like this?"
The nurse shook her head, "Poor dearie, he's been like that ever since he came here. I thought you could cheer him up. Tell him that everything will be okay. You know be All Might."
The blond hero nodded as he sat down with his protégé, "Young Midoriya, tell how are you feeling, right now?" the boy didn't reply, but continued staring so he carried on, "I suppose that the outcome of the battle wasn't to your liking."
Izuku nodded his head, "I wanted this fight for us to be a changing point in our relationship, and it was, but for the worst. At first, it was only Bakugo who was doing the hating, but I feel that the feeling has become mutual." He wiped a tear, "I only wanted to fix our friendship, but somehow I managed to make the situation even worse."
The boy asked him, "Do you still think I'm worthy of OFA? Even though, I showed such anger down in the fight? I mean a hero shouldn't be like this, let alone the symbol of peace…"
He was cut off by the blond laughing, "Young Midoriya, it's only natural for you to be angry. Having OFA doesn't mean that you have to cut yourself off from emotions. Everyone gets angry; I mean didn't you see me at the USJ? I wasn't smiling back then," he saw the boy was still conflicted and then asked him, "Young Midoriya, did I ever tell you about my father?"
The boy shook his head, "His name was Hito Yagi. You may also know him as the thunder hero: Dragon storm." The boy's eyes widened as the older hero chuckled, "It appears you know him."
The boy freaked out, "How can't I? I mean he was one of Japan's greatest heroes. He was responsible for taking down the Chinese zodiac syndicate," a group of villains who had quirks similar to the Chinese Zodiac sign, "and handling of the floods on the coastal areas back in 2158. His quirk was lighting dragon. It allowed him to control lighting, and transform into a dragon made from lighting. How was it having him as a dad?"
The man chuckled as he answered, "Allow me to say that he was horrible," the boy's face fell down as All Might said, "What? you didn't expect just because he was a hero that he was a good father." The blond shook his head, "My dad hated me just like young Bakugo hates you. In fact, I can safely say that our relationship was the same as yours with young Bakugo. I always tried to make him proud of me, make him see that I can stand with him on equal footing, help him whenever I can, but in return, he would always berate me, sneer at me, or hit me."
Izuku was confused, "Why though? I mean you're All Might."
The blond smiled sadly, "It was because I was just like you; quirkless." the boy's eyes widened as he said, "So that's why on the roof…"
The hero nodded, "Yes, I just wanted you to be safe. I always tried to be a hero when I was quirkless. I worked out. tried to learn martial arts in hopes that my dad might train me to become a hero, but he would always say that I was a small fish that can't grow and that my other siblings deserved his attention. in fact, he kicked me out when I was 11 years old saying that he didn't need a deadweight around. I was fortunate that I found an orphanage nearby, or I would've died on the streets."
The boy asked, "What happened then?" the blond carried on, "I lived three years in darkness and sadness wishing that I had a quirk to make him proud, but I never gave up on being a hero. I kept pushing and pushing till one day I found my master. Her name was Nana Shimura; she believed in me from the get-go. she was like the mother I never had. She gave me OFA and I became the man I am today." The man then answered the unspoken question, "And regarding my dad, one day after I won the sports festival for the first year, he showed up giving me my disownment records saying that he doesn't want a brat who disrespects his father by hiding his quirk for so long. And he said that I will always be that small fish who won't amount to anything. I practically cried into my master's lap the entire day. Just like you, I thought with a quirk my dad would finally love and respect me, but it ended up backfiring in my face. That day my master told me an important lesson…"
"Toshinori. In this world, some people are born just cruel. No matter what you do, they'll always find a way to put you down and berate you, so my advice is to move on and never listen to them. When they come around, remember those who love and believe in you." She then moved her hands to the sides of her face as she began to stretch her cheeks into a smile saying, "And always smile in their face of this and any other adversary that you might face."
"So remember young Midoriya, even though young Bakugo might not like you, you still have people who believe in you. I know it hurts, but life moves on, and those who can't accept reality are left behind, and…" Izuku then saw the deflated hero use his fingers to make a smile, "…do like my master said, and face them with a smile."
"Thanks, All Might. I really needed that." the boy hugged the blood who smiled. The blond mentally wondered if this was how it felt to have a son.
He then remembered something else, "Young Midoriya, I have to ask something else." The boy looked at him as he took a deep breath; there was no easy way to approach this subject, but it must be done, "Young Midoriya, is it true what Midnight told the others teachers after the fight was over? Did young Bakugo suicide bait you at one point or the other?"
The green-haired boy went silent, but that was what the hero needed to hear, "I guess that settles it. U.A. can deal with bullies, but this takes the cake. The other teachers are planning to discuss young Bakugo's fate after the sports festival of the 2nd and 3rd years, but this seals his fate as immediate expulsion."
The blond was shocked when Izuku said, "Don't expel him. as much as I want him to have the consequences of his actions handed to him, I don't want him to be expelled. In some retrospect, he's just a victim as I am." The hero gasped, but never was allowed to speak, "I mean no one ever told him he was wrong. Bakugo was always told that he was in the right for anything, he did. I know that this may sound foolish, but can you find a punishment that won't deny him his dream, or at least give him a chance to change a little?"
The hero sighed, "I can't promise you anything, but I will. Sometimes, you are too forgiving."
"This isn't me forgiving him. this is a hero doing his job, saving someone from his own ego, and the last time favor, I'll ever do to him just for the sake of old times." Izuku shook his head, "I just hope that he changes for the best."
All Might smiled as the doors to the infirmary opened revealing Setsuna who came over and hugged the boy making him blush. The girl ranted, "Greenie, I tried to come earlier with the others, but Recovery Girl kicked us out telling us that you need time to recover." She then noticed the sickly thin man beside both of them, and said, "Sorry sir for noticing you earlier. I'm Setsuna Tokage. It's a pleasure to meet you and you are…"
"I'm Toshinori Yagi. I'm young Midoriya's personal trainer." The girl looked at him with a skeptical look as he added, "I assure you that I'm telling the truth. Back in my day, I was extremely muscled, but a horrible accident destroyed both my left lung and my stomach. The doctors say it's a miracle that I'm still standing, let alone living." He then stood up and walked to the door, "I'll leave you be now. Take care, Young Midoriya."
Setsuna asked him, "What happened down there? What caused you to flip?"
The boy sighed as he told the girl what happened. In the end, she yelled, "THAT SON OF…" she grabbed the bed sheet and she ripped it apart trying to cool her anger, "How did he even manage to enter the hero course?"
"A lot of ass kissing from the school and fake records." Izuku replied, "But I don't care. At least not anymore."
Setsuna pouted crossing her arms, "How can you be so calm about this?"
"Because I have you now," the girl blushed as she looked away, "I mean I have you guys. I don't need him anymore. I only wanted him to validate me. I used to look up to him in some sort of trance, but I guess when I met you and the others, I knew what real friends act like, so I just forgot about him. plus, I have you as my best friend, and I couldn't ask for anything more. You were my first friend in a long time, and for that I'm grateful."
The girl blushed heavily looking away, "Ahh, greenie. You're making me blush."
The boy began to scratch his cheek as he inquired, "I usually call my best friends by the first part of their name and add 'chan' to it. what I'm trying to say is; can I call you 'Setchan'?"
The girl gave him a beaming smile in return, "Only if I can call you 'Izuchan'." The boy nodded as they both hugged each other. The doors were then opened as his other friends rushed in hugging him and congratulating him for the win.
Someone then entered the room. he looked to see the last person he expected might be here. "Kamakiri, what are you doing here?"
The boy chuckled, "What can't I make sure that my classmate is fine after taking what be considered a house full of TNT explosion head-on?"
Kinoko rubbed her chin, "No, but you always gave us the impression that you wanted Izuku's head on a stake in the front yard of your house."
The boy scoffed, "Sure, I may not like him. and I want to beat the shit out of him, because I want to be the best, but that doesn't mean I want him dead."
"So why are you here?" Kendo asked as she eyed him.
"I just want to say congrats on the win, and don't feel bothered about blasty. Real friends won't hurt each other." He walked out of the room by Izuku asking, "Are we friends, Kamakiri?"
The boy stopped and stared a little, "I don't know. I never really had any friends before." Izuku knew that right now that they might not be friends, but maybe sometime in the future, they might be.
He then looked at Kendo and groaned as she yelled pumping her fist up with the others, "Power of Friendship." He stood up to go get ready for the award ceremony.
In another location, the tension in the bar where Kurogiri and Tomura were, was so thick that you can cut it with a knife. The hero killer now had both Kurogiri and Tomura frozen in place. At first, when the hero killer came, Tomura offered him to join the league because they had the same goal; the destruction of modern-day hero society. And that's where things when south; the hero killer asked him what his goal is, and Tomura said that he wanted to kill anything he wants and doesn't like which caused the initial standoff for Stain to see him as someone without a clear goal in mind. Kurogiri tried to intervene, but his master told him that this will help young Tomura's growth. The boy then tried to attack Stain, but the man was quick as he paralyzed the gate wrapper and the decay user was pinned to the ground with a knife in his shoulder.
Now he stood above Tomura and asked, "In this world, the word 'hero' has lost all its meaning where fakes are everything, even criminals who are wandering around like headless chickens must be purged from this world."
Tomura then grabbed the hero killer's blade and decayed it forcing the man to back away as he said, "Conviction? Sorry, but I don't have anything fancy like that up my sleeve, but if have to say you remind me of All Might." The blue-haired man stood up, "The only thing I want is to destroy this society that values the strong and mighty. I want to crush them under my feet."
The hero killer smiled, "So that's what you're about…" this confused Shigaraki, "We're the polar opposite of each other, but we still have a common goal by destroying today's society."
Tomura was angered as he told the gate user to get Stain out of there. The man wasn't too bothered as he said, "Death brings one's true colors out. I see that you have in that sea of the wickedness of yours a small seed of conviction. I wonder where will that lead you." The man rubbed his chin, "Though I wonder if I have to get rid of you before it's too late."
Tomura then demanded Kurogiri get rid of Stain, but the mist man urged him to reconsider since this might help them increase the number of members of the league.
Finally, Stain stood up and said, "I have business back in Hosu. Send me back." The mist man opened a gate that Stain went through.
Tomura said, "Call Sensei, I want something ready for a small mission of mine."
Back at the sports festival, all four finalists were on the podiums. Tetsu seemed excited to be in 3rd place along with Kamakiri who seemed smiling a little. Izuku was the first with a huge smile. The only person who wasn't smiling was Bakugo in the second place who seemed catatonic as if his entire world view just shattered.
Midnight walked to the podium, "Now, we've come after a long day of fights to the first year's award ceremony." The woman smiled as she ushered saying, "And going the medals is none other than…"
All Might jumped in, "I'M AM HERE TO GIVE THE REWARDS."
"…our symbol of peace, All Might." Both looked at each other and Midnight apologized for what happened, even though he assured her it was his fault, to begin with.
The man walked over to both Tetsu and Togaru. He started with Tetsu, "Young Tetsutetsu, today you showed that you don't need a flashy quirk to be a pro. You took a relatively plain quirk and worked it to its limits. That's why I say with a happy heart that I can't wait to see you as a pro hero." The boy smiled as All Might put the bronze medal on his neck.
The hero looked at Kamakiri, "Young Kamakiri, today you showed great finesse in using your quirk. Most people would have expected your opponents to be sent homes with a few cuts and slashes, but not only did you win through sheer intelligence, but you won without harming anyone. I will be watching your hero career." The boy blushed as All Might handed him the metal.
All Might moved to Bakugo. The man had to admit that Bakugo today showed the dark side of heroics, but remembered what Izuku told him that Bakugo was just a victim like Izuku was due to him never being told what is right and what is wrong; the hero sighed, "Young Bakugo, today you showed us great strength in your performance to the top, and you almost kept your word of winning the festival but fell short at the end. Learn from your mistakes, and a word of advice; strength isn't everything in life. Try to show some compassion, it can take you a long way." The boy scoffed as he took the silver medal saying, "I don't care All Might. From now on, I'll never lose again to anyone." He turned to Izuku, "You hear me, Deku. I'll never lose to you again. I'll be the number one hero, and surpass both you and All Might."
Izuku shook his head, "Whatever you say, Bakugo." The green-haired boy never saw how the blond flinched at the name.
All Might finally moved to Izuku with a huge smile, "Young Midoriya, today you proved that a quirk doesn't make the hero, but the hero is all about his conviction. You managed through your smarts to win the whole thing. You'll make a great hero one day." The man put on the gold medal on his Izuku's neck as he leaned closer and whispered, "I'm proud of you, young Midoriya."
"Thank you, All Might." The boy replied. He then added, "And it's' Plus Ultra', not 'thank you for your hard work', okay?" the man nodded as he walked to the center of the podium and said, "And to everyone here, I have one thing to say, thank you all for coming out, and let's always be 'Plus…"
The crowd then carried on, "…Ultra'"
Author's notes:
Welcome back to a new chapter of my story. In this chapter, we finally saw the fight between Izuku and Bakugo; I hope I managed to make it seem good through every part of it from the fight itself to Izuku's awakening to the fact that Bakugo was never his friend, to begin with. For this part going on forward, Bakugo will begin to change; even if you don't like him, he still needs character development, but I won't make him buddy-buddy with Izuku out of midair because that seems even more ridiculous than keeping him the same, and just for the record, Bakugo respects Izuku's mom and it was shown in the cannon; when he said that he feels sad for her, he meant it, so please don't take it as me making him as a villain; it's just that he loves and cares about her in his own twisted way that involves him. We also saw Stain's interaction with Shigaraki. I also gave All Might a bit of a backstory; I know it isn't canon, but I already screwed up the cannon the moment Izuku was in 1-B. Finally, we also saw Izuku's and Setsuna's relationship evolve a little. The next chapter will mostly focus on the get-out of Izuku with his friends and members of class 1-A.
As always please take of yourselves, write a review about your opinion on the current chapter, and tell me how you think that I can make the story better.
And finally, I hope you all enjoy reading my work, and see you next time with a brand new chapter.
