A/N: Lots of stuff has been going on lately. I'm sorry I haven't kept up with a real schedule for the updates. I've been going through a slump and using small one shots to keep me happy and in practice. Maybe one day I'll do a few Logan/Scarlet one shots. I do have some planned out, just have to write them. But for now, enjoy.
OOOOOOOOOOOO
Scarlet's body was aching. She felt like she had been hit by a semi and somehow managed to survive. She let out a little groan and shifted on the bed.
Bed? I was in…I was in water…Scarlet's thoughts flew by her mind's eye. Something's not right…
Scarlet opened her eyes and looked around the room, trying to remember how she had gotten there. All she got was a blank wall. Logan stood at the window, watching her with those hazel eyes that saw right through her. Scarlet curled her legs into herself and tried to make herself smaller.
"How did I get back here?" she asked, feeling her throat ache.
"I brought you back," Logan said. "You nearly drowned yourself in the fountain."
The teenager lifted an eyebrow and looked away from him. "I don't…remember how that happened, but I guess I'll have to take your word for it." She tapped her temple. "I can get the images from your head to know you're not lying."
"Good, then you can tell me what you meant when you said the end was coming."
"I don't remember that."
Logan pushed himself away from the window and approached the bed. "I won't accept that answer, Maria. You kept going on and on about how the end was coming. So spill. What made you say that and what's coming?"
Scarlet shrugged. "No idea. I don't remember saying it. I don't know what you think I meant. If you haven't noticed, I say a lot of things that don't always happen. Which, to tell you the truth, bothers me."
"I need to know if I have to get everyone prepared to protect the school, Maria."
Scarlet looked at the wall across from her and furrowed her brow. "It probably has nothing to do with the school…it probably has something to do with me…" She cursed. "Thank you, Vanessa for giving me that stupid goddamn power."
"What power?"
"The power of intuition for myself." Scarlet glanced at him. "I can apparently predict when something bad is going to happen involving me." The girl sat up and stretched. "Which probably means you need to remove me from the equation."
Logan lifted an eyebrow. "What?"
"You know? Kick me to the curb with my bags packed. That kind of thing."
The feral mutant let out a growl and moved in front of her. "You're not going anywhere."
"Bossy," Scarlet said, looking up at him with her chin thrust out defiantly. "You can't just boss me around."
"You forget, I'm your teacher."
Scarlet glared at him and pushed herself to her feet, trying to maintain her balance. She thrust a finger under his chin and tried to put some fight in her eyes.
"You may be my teacher, but I've had dozens of them. I didn't listen to them. What makes you think I'll listen to you?" She offered a wan smirk. "I don't even listen to Chuck and I've known him for longer."
Logan glared right back at her. "Maria…"
"Scarlet," Scarlet corrected. She tried to push him aside, but to no avail. "Let me go."
"No," Logan said, putting his hands on her wrists to keep her in place.
Scarlet gave him a look. "Don't make me pop my arms off. The regrowing process is a bitch."
"Then promise me that you're going to stay here and let me and Chuck help you prevent whatever this end is," Logan growled, flexing his fingers.
Why does he care so much? Why can't he just be like the other adults and let me go easily?
Scarlet stopped squirming and looked at his chest. "Fine. I'll stay and mostly behave."
Logan seemed satisfied with that and let her go. Scarlet rubbed her wrist and slid around him. She flexed her legs and looked around the room.
"See? I'm on my feet again. Progress." Scarlet bounced on her toes. "There's a good chance that I'll be ready to use my powers again." She smiled. "I'm going to have a powwow with the kids, I think. Because woot! I can walk again."
She bounded out over to the door and blew a kiss back at Logan for the hell of it. She didn't understand why she did it, but it felt right.
OOOOOOOOOOO
Scarlet sat back and listened to the kids tell stories, laughing at each other with good nature. She wished that she had been as carefree as a kid. But hey, at least she got to experience it a little bit now.
I wish I could keep them innocent forever, Scarlet thought, watching them show off their powers. They deserve to think that the world is rainbows and unicorns…even though it's not. That's the problem with today. This is a world of pain and despair and liars.
But there's love…something whispered in her head.
Scarlet closed her eyes and rested her head back against the tree. She tried to see if Chuck was prying in on her situation. But she didn't sense him in her head. Scarlet felt someone tap her on the knee and opened her eyes.
Leticia looked at her with her big deep brown eyes.
"Scarlet…can you show us your fire fairies again?" she asked, a little smile on her face.
Scarlet couldn't say no to that face. "Sure."
The teenager flipped her hand over and a little fire ball appeared on her hand. Scarlet focused and the fire twisted and became shaped like a fairy. Leticia clapped her hands together and the other children gathered around, oohing and ahhing…
They're so cute…
Scarlet felt like she was being watched and not by something good. Her eyes lifted away from the children and she saw Pyro standing in the doorway to the mansion. His eyes were dark, blazing and Scarlet felt anger in her core. He smirked at her and turned, playing with his favorite zippo.
Bastard…he needs to be put in the ground…soon…
"Ahh, Scarlet!" Leticia cried out, bringing Scarlet's attention back to the children.
Scarlet saw that she had lost control of the fire fairy and that it was flying over the heads of the children, going close enough to burn them. Scarlet tried to regain control over the fairy, but it danced away from her after burning Leticia.
Scarlet jumped to her feet and ran a hand through her hair, feeling her heart pound in her chest. She looked around and felt panic set in.
I hurt them…I lost control…I'm a monster…
"I'm sorry," Scarlet whispered, looking at the crying kids. "I'm sorry."
The teenager turned and ran in the direction of the garages. She ran into Viktor and he tried to steady her.
"Where's the fire, sweetheart?" he asked, a slight growl in his voice.
"Fuck you," Scarlet hissed, pushing past him.
She waved her hand as she entered the garages and her bag flew through the door that adjoined it to the mansion. All of her stuff was there. She slid the backpack on and mounted her motorcycle. As she kicked it into life, Scarlet saw Logan enter the garages.
A single tear fell down her cheek. "I'm sorry," she whispered.
Scarlet sped past Logan and into an approaching storm, not looking back because it would just break her heart too much.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
A/N: I'm exhausted. So please leave a review and have a wonderful afternoon. -Scarlet
