AN: This is my first fanfiction that uses the Gamer system as a focus, so this should be quite the experience indeed. If you have any critiques or advice for the whole Gamer system, feel free to comment and such so I can gaze upon your glorious words of wisdom.

Also, stats, inventory and skills will be shown at the bottom of each chapter so as to help keep track.

Without further ado, let's get this show on the road :)

Chapter 1: Let the games begin

.

..

Beep…

Beep…Beep…

Beep…Beep…Beep…

What is that annoying sound? Now, I like hearing as much as the next person, but that is bloody annoying. Although, I could just be winging like a child since it's only gone off like, what, three times now? Yet something about it makes me feel like it's been going on for far longer.

Beep…Beep…Beep…

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm getting a bad feeling about all this. Well, not 'Bad' bad, but more the 'Weird' bad, like you're unsure about something and that unsettles you. Basically that whole 'fearing the unknown' type of deal, you know what I mean?

Beep Beep…Beep Beep…Beep Beep…

And now it's ramped up, like I wasn't annoyed in the first place. Wait, I get annoyed, it picks up in pace. Not to mention its been keeping a steady rhythm, almost like…

Please, for the love of God, don't let it be what I think it is.

My eyes snapped open, only to immediately shut due to blinding white light. Slowly this time, I opened my eyes while allowing them to get used to the light, gradually expanding until finally, I could gaze upon my surroundings without the fear of blindness. From the white sealing, to the array of medical equipment ranging from IV drip bags and heart monitors, I can indeed confirm-

I'm in a hospital room.

…Dafuq landed me here?!

The last memory I had was simply me going to sleep, I fail to see how that gets me placed within the ICU of all things. Annoyance brewing in my heart, I tried to get myself sitting upright only to tumble down again, which struck me as odd. Looking down at my arms, my eyes widened in shock. My right arm, absolutely fine the moment I had gone to bed for a good nights sleep, was now in a cast going from my hand up to just below my elbow, pain burning through it after my failed attempt to sit up straight. However, it was my left arm that drew most of my attention.

Or rather, what remained of it.

With only a small portion hanging down from my shoulder in bandages, my entire left arm was non-existent with only phantom sensations making me feel as if I still had my arm. Wide eyed, I look down at the obvious sight of some serious accident that had apparently befallen me.

I would like to preface this again, that I had gone to sleep ABSOLUTELY FINE!

*Ding*

Looking to my right, caught off guard by the noise, I was greeted to the sight of a black screen hovering in midair by my bedside, a quick peek out the window allowing me to see a pigeon frozen during mid-flight. Gulping nervously, I had a distinct feeling that I finally knew what was happening to me but denial was a strong force indeed.

Then I began to read the text screen.

=Greetings, poor unfortunate soul. I am the System in charge of managing your current predicament.=

=No doubt your heart is beginning to increase in its BPM, but worry not. All will be fine within the next few moments.=

=Around this moment, you should be calmed down to a reasonably level.=

Sure enough, I found myself thinking more clearly and my heart starting to settle. I had a rough idea of what that could've been, but I continued to read to make sure.

=What you have experienced is what is commonly referred to as the 'Gamer's Mind', a special ability that allows the recipient to become nigh immune to all mental status effects (i.e. mind control/brainwashing, emotional manipulative effects). Additionally, this slightly dampens the user's emotions so that they can think more clearly, but not enough to feel like an emotionless drone.=

=As for the counterpart to Gamer's Mind, there is Gamer's body-the ability to convert any form of physical damage into a reflected numerical integer. No more having to deal with pesky casts for broken bones, now you just gotta watch a little number tick down til death!=

I looked at my arms, with only one word flowing through my mind, 'Bullshit'.

=Addendum: Unfortunately, due to your arms sustaining serious damage before the System was fully implemented, you'll have to wait for them to fully recover in order for them to be successfully registered into the System.=

Oh ain't that wonderful, my right arm being indisposed of for the current time and my left arm just gone for eternity-my only solution for that being prosthetic replacements. Heaving a sigh, my head crashed back into the hospital pillow and was promptly swallowed by the comfiness as I stared thoughtlessly up at the ceiling. Looking back at the message, my eyes skimmed over the last few sentences.

=Finally, as you could not doubt tell, you will have the traits of a good ol' fashioned video game character, complete with a levelling system, skill gain and improvement mechanics, and all that other fun stuff to help toughen you up in the long run. As a starting point, simply think of the word 'File' and have a browse. Should you have any questions or require aid regarding the System, think 'Help' and a query bot will be there to assist you.=

=Happy game time, Player :) =

After reading the expository wall of text, I decided to heed the message's advice and get myself acquainted with my newfound abilities. 'File' I thought to myself, a black screen now hovering in front of my eyes, but not to an obnoxious extent which I was thankful for. Looking over the screen, I noticed my four options to choose from.

Statistics

Inventory

Skills

?

Needless to say, I was really curious about that last one, but I was at least thankful I could see what I had on me and my general condition. Deciding to go in order from top-down, I focused on the Statistics tab and a new screen popped up.

-Statistics-

Name: Kai Sikamaru

?: N/A

HP: 35/120

Mana: 0/20

Strength: 10

Durability: 7

Agility: 8

Intelligence: 8

Wisdom: 6

Luck: 4

Pretty solid stuff from what I could tell, all though, the name change has me more concerned than before since my actual name is Michael, which leads me to believe that I am now the main character of a shitty Reincarnated!Gamer! Fanfiction.

God please don't let that be the case.

Nevertheless, I went back to the previous screen and decided to check out my inventory to see what I had, only for it to be not a whole lot to my disappointment.

-Inventory-

Leather Wallet - Contains personal ID and 405 Yen

Bowie Knife

Cargo Pants

T-shirt

Combat Boots

Hospital Gown -Equipped-

Like I said, not a whole lot. Honestly, to me, the only thing interesting in my entire inventory is the Bowie Knife, since, you know, who just casually carries around a big bloody (metaphorically, anyway) knife in broad daylight. Moving on from there, I finally came to my Skills tab.

-Skills-

Gamer's Mind (LeveL-Grandmaster)

The ability to repel and become nigh immune to all ailments and effects that impact the user's mind.

Gamer's Body (Level-Grandmaster)

The ability to convert all physical ailments and trauma into numerical impacts to the user's HP metre, thus eliminating all need for bandages.

Combat Experience (Level-Intermediate)

Moderate combat training has allowed you to be able to hold your own in a fight of fists and kicks. Don't get cocky though, there are plenty of individuals out there that can kick that pretty little ass of yours six ways from sunday should they choose to. This skill receives bonuses from Strength, Agility and Durability.

Blade Experience (Level-Trainee)

You may have just started to wield a bladed weapon, but at least you're at the point where you won't unknowingly stab yourself like a moron.

Tactical Prowess (Level-Intermediate)

A body can only fight as good as the mind, and you seem to have a good head on your shoulders. This is your ability to analyse your opponent(s) and deduce the more efficient and beneficial ways of defeating them (this ranges from the most quickly, to most damaging and most taunting). This skill receives bonuses from increased Intelligence and Wisdom.

I was actually kinda surprised by my new skills outside of the Gamer's duo, since they seem like pretty alright ones to have. Although, looking at them, these seem more in line with someone who's been training in combat heavy fields-such as police work or even the military. Thinking about that, this made me feel like shit since I basically robbed some dude of his life.

Though I didn't disregard the possibility of this being a quickly created body suited just for me, though I wasn't hopeful of me being that special.

Moving on from that depressing train of thoughts, I got curious on what the levels for my Skills meant and decided to put the query bot to use. 'Help' I thought, a small text box appearing with a neat little keyboard to go with it. Typing in my question, I hit the enter key and got my answer.

Query: "What does the 'Skill' levels mean?"

=The skill levels are levels of proficiency with that one particular skill, increasing over time and the more it is used until it reaches a cap. Each proficiency level allows for more techniques to be utilised with a particular skill (example, more efficient and/or flashier techniques with firearms). These are progressive stages that require more use in order to progress to the next.=

=The stages are as follows; Beginner - Trainee - Intermediate - Advanced - Expert - Master - Grandmaster=

=The time and usage needed to progress a skill to the next proficiency will increase by 50%. Example, the time needed to progress from Beginner to Trainee is 1 minute, but to get from Trainee to Intermediate will then be 1 minute 30 seconds. Do note that the 50% increase is coming from the new time result and not the base time (I.e, instead of the new time from Intermediate to Advanced being 2 minutes, it will instead be 2 minutes 15 seconds due to the previous time being 1 minute 30 seconds).=

Huh, that was really good to know for the long run. Honestly, the whole 50 percent increase in time doesn't sound like a huge deal, but then again, two of my skills are only at the third lowest level with four more proficiencies left to go. Despite that sounding like a bit of a grind, I'm actually looking forward to the time killing in the future.

Having seen all that I needed to see, I closed the window and that appears to have allowed time to resume, the pigeon I took notice off before immediately shooting to the horizon in flight from its previously frozen position. Hearing the door to my room open, I looked over to see a nurse walk in with a clipboard and pen in hand.

"Oh, you're awake!" it was clear she wasn't expecting me to be awake if the surprise in her voice was any indication. Before I could get a word out, she bolted out of the room in no doubt search of a doctor. Evidently, a doctor must've been real close since the nurse returned not even 30 seconds later, doctor in tow. The doctor in question appeared to be in his twilight years with wrinkly skin and a balding scalp. The rest of his body was hidden by the buttoned up white coat he wore.

"Oh dear, we thought you wouldn't be awake for another few days." he said, coming over to my right beside and began to check my vitals. "I have to say young lad, you're lucky to be in as good of shape you are currently in despite the hit you took."

I attempted to speak, only to begin coughing due to how dry my throat was. Thankfully the doctor seemed to recognise the signs since he gently put a cup of water to my lips, which I was grateful for. Once the water was down my throat completely, I looked to the doctor.

"How long was I out for?"

Almost immediately after I spoke I then froze in shock, an instinctual part noting that the voice, the voice I had just used for one measly sentence, was very familiar. However, Gamer's Mind kicked in and I began to calm down so that I could focus on the doctor.

"Oh, my boy, you've been out for quite a couple of weeks." he said, writing on a clipboard before handing it to the nurse who promptly left the room. "Various examinations pointed to your miniature coma being attributed to near extreme blood loss, for obvious reasons." he motioned to my messing left arm and generally fucked up right one. I did note the part where he mentioned being out for at least two weeks, so that throws the whole 'newly created body' theory out the window.

"For now," he continued onwards, "We'd like to have you in here for a couple more doors so that we can make sure everything has healed properly. As for your, um, unfortunate circumstances, I can refer you to a mechanics company that could perhaps create a prosthetic arm if you wish."

I thought about it, mentally glad that my assumption of prosthetics being a thing was true, before ultimately declining since that would obviously be an astronomical amount of cash compared to what I've got. "I'm good for now, Doc. For now though, can I have a mirror to look over myself?" I asked of him, the elderly man nodding.

"Of course. Give me a second to find one." he wandered out of the room, for a couple of minutes, during which I tried to flex my right hand to make sure I still had it and functioning-which thankfully it was. Watching the doctor wander back in, I noted the small hand-held mirror in his grasp.

"Before I do let you see yourself," he started, my eyes narrowing at the doctor, "I wanted to let you know that during your incident, your face suffered damage as well, but thankfully we noted that nothing serious was permanently injured." he reassured me before turning the mirror towards myself, my eyes taking in my appearance.

The left side of my face was covered in bandages with another strip of bandages going from my right cheek, over my nose and ending on my left cheek. Thankfully, I could feel my left eye blink so I could tell I still had it, 'Thank God' I thought. However, all this was overshadowed by whose face was staring back at me. Spike black hair angled downwards, dark brown eyes and an angular face that leads down to a narrow, pointed chin.

Staring back at me was the man who would become a prestigious hero, known for the high calibre weapon that served as his arm. A hero who would detest the ranking system regarding his fellow heroes.

Staring back at me was the bandaged visage of the eventual Class A rank 8 hero, Death Gatling.

AN: This was an idea I had since I rewatched some episodes of One Punch Man for the laughs, specifically the heroes ganging up on Garou towards the end of Season 2. So, when thinking over this idea, I thought 'why not?'

I hope you can enjoy this new idea brought to the table, and I welcome everyone's feedback.

Until next time, Redsummer out.
