Hey guys, just so you know, this is a story about the Gamma Team. But I will mention a few non-Gamma Team members, so be prepared. I'll be introducing a new concept in this story, and I'll apply it to any characters I see fit. I hope you enjoy this chapter!
Mark, the champion of the Calzei Region, made his way through a thick crowd on his way to deliver a speech at Voyanna Square.
The crowd surged around him, intent on asking him questions or getting his autograph. His seven bodyguards tried in vain to push the crowd back.
Mark sighed and turned to his captain guard, Samuel.
"This crowd is relentless. Why do I have to give a speech anyways? I wrote everything down, you can read it while I tend to my fans' needs."
Samuel shrugged. "You know, the reason you're the champion is because of your Pokémon batting skills. Being the champion demands a lot of responsibility. You have to be ready to help solve the issues with modern society, and you have to incite hope and peace throughout all the citizens. Don't forget, in times of war, you're expected to be on the front-lines with your Pokémon. There's also-"
Mark waved him off. "I get it. You don't need to remind me."
Samuel raised an eyebrow. "But I think I do, with the uprising of the Gamma Team, you're needed more than ever."
"Isn't that the Oak Agency's job?" whined Mark.
Samuel shut his eyes and took a breath. As part of his job, he had to put up with the childish twenty-two year old's antics a lot.
"The Oak Agency has really done much to solve the Gamma Team issue. They've been too busy dealing with all the disasters caused by the recent earthquakes to chase down the Gamma Team and find Groudon. You, on the other hand, are a fighter. You've trained you and your Pokémon hard, your skills are ideal for stopping the Gamma Team. The first step will be working alongside the police force to uncover their location."
Mark sighed. "You're too kind. I'm the same champion who failed to stop that thief from stealing the Master Ball, creating this whole mess in the first place. You know what? You're right, I need to get up there and recite my damn speech!"
Samuel looked at his employer with wonder as he suddenly strode forward to the stage, a new sense of purpose incited within him.
He made his way on top, pulled out his notes, and skimmed over them. He took a deep breath, watching the silent, anticipating crowd. He handed his notes to one of his bodyguards, took a deep breath, and began his speech.
"Welcome, people of the beautiful Calzei Region! It is my pleasure to welcome the people who came from Voyanna City and all over this fine region! I have gathered everyone here to talk about a very troubling subject. The rising organization known as the Gamma Team."
Mark could feel the bad mood settling over the crowd as he mentioned the Gamma Team. He held up a reassuring hand.
"It's true, they have caused many troubles and worries in the past few weeks. Summoning and catching Groudon, the many robberies, even the earthquakes were their fault. As for what happened with Groudon, a lot of you are most likely wondering, where was I? Unfortunately, the Gamma Team were expecting my aid, I was caught up battling a large number of Gamma Team thugs, trying to prevent me from appearing at the scene. I accept full responsibility for not dealing with them quickly, or not having the same foresight as to where and when the Gamma Team may summon Groudon."
Mark knew that his speech was becoming more and more grim. He could see the crestfallen expressions on everybody's faces. If their champion, their hero, admits failure, then who can succeed?
"But! There's still hope for our beautiful region. Me, along with many others, are working to predict the Gamma Team's next move. We may not have any information on where they are now, but trust me, we will uncover a lead!"
The crowd cheered, their hope recovered. Seeing their happy faces almost made Mark not want to say the next part of his speech.
"Unfortunately, even with the Oak Agency helping those affected by the Gamma Team's actions, and the police force working to find those who did the actions, we still need you to do your part to keep ourselves safe. Already, we've uncovered three kidnapping cases, two of them happened in the past week, one of them, a year ago. The first one has already been resolved with the hostage completely safe, but since we don't have the Gamma Team's location, finding the other two will be a challenge. Remember everyone, we must protect ourselves and those around us. Never go out on the streets alone at night, don't participate in suspicious activity, and if you ever see anyone suspicious, participating in suspicious activities, or anything suspicious, please report it to the police or the Oak Agency. We must all do our part to protect this beautiful region. Thank you."
There weren't a lot of people who clapped at the end of his speech. Mark couldn't blame them, he knew the ending of his speech was going to be very grim. But he didn't want his people to leave one of his gatherings unhappy.
"But I didn't bring you here from the region to make you all sad once you get home. This is why, completely free of charge. You'll get to see me, Champion Mark Evans, shall do an honorary Pokémon battle! It shall be a one versus one against my good friend and the current second place holder in the official Calzei Region competitive standings, Jack Martin!"
This time, everyone cheered. Mark stepped back on the stage as Jack came up as well. Jack was much older than Mark, about eleven years. He was a close contender to Mark, but wasn't able to beat him yet. The match right now was just for the people attending to feel at ease, not to see who was better.
"Alright, let's begin! Go, Ciara!" shouted Mark.
"Out, Gregory!" exclaimed Jack.
The crowd cheered as Mark's signature Pokémon, a Lopunny, and Jack's signature Pokémon, a Sceptile, appeared on stage.
"Let's do this! Mega Evolve!"
"Typical choice. Gregory, Mega Evolve!"
Both trainers held up their mega bands. The keystones on the bands flashed as both Pokémon began glowing. Rainbow light filled the stage as silver cocoons formed around the Pokémon. When it cleared, the two Pokémon now stood, mega evolved.
"Gregory, start this battle off with Dragon Pulse!"
"Dodge it and use Triple Axel!"
Ciara leapt away from the Dragon Pulse, she rushed forward and leapt at Gregory. The Mega Sceptile dodged the attack and used Leaf Blade. Ciara dug her long ears into the ground and pivoted away from the attack.
"Fall back and use Ear Slam!"
Like most uber competitive battlers, Mark taught his Pokémon custom moves. Custom moves were either a combination of two existing moves, blended together to create a devastating combo, or a usage of a Pokémon's body parts in a unique way. Custom moves that fall in the second category are usually either typeless or carry the normal or fighting type. But in a few cases, custom moves could have other types. Some benefits of these custom moves were to allow Pokémon to attack unexpectedly, and two break the four move limit, excluding signature moves.
Ciara leaped into the air, flipping over as she did so. Gregory could barely react before Ciara was upside down behind him, her long, powerful ears ready to strike.
"Pine Shot!"
Pine Shot was a special move that few Sceptiles could use, but rarely learn. The move involved a Sceptile using thin leaves that covered their tails. The leaves were shot out forcefully. The chance of a Sceptile being able to use this move is kind of like the chance of a person being able to wiggle their ears.
Ciara shielded herself with her ears as the leaves flew at her. She landed on her feet and slid back a few paces, shaking her ears to get rid of the leaves. The leaves however, didn't come off.
"Don't touch them! They have a sticky substance on them."
"Huh, you're pretty fast on the uptake. No wonder you're the champion. No matter, use Earthquake!"
Gregory slammed the ground, causing the stage to rumble and shake as the ground started rising.
"Ciara, High Jump Kick!"
Ciara leapt into the air, avoiding the Earthquake. Gregory glared at the figure in the sky and then leapt away right as Ciara was about to hit him.
"Ear Slam!"
Ciara swung her long ears in a downwards arc. She slammed Gregory hard and used the momentum to spring herself upwards, negating any fall damage from High Jump Kick.
"Triple Axel!"
Ciara whipped around in mid-air and planted her feet on the ground. She barely seemed to touch the ground before she was flying at Gregory, feet first.
"Focus Blast!"
"Dodge it!"
Despite being in mid-air, Ciara still had a way to dodge the attack. She dug her ears into the ground, easily correcting her course and dodging the attack. But Gregory was expecting this.
The Sceptile had leapt forward at the slightest movement from Ciara's ears. Right as she corrected her course and dodged the Focus Blast, Gregory had used LEaf Blade. Ciara went flying as the move connected.
"Ciara, avoid his attacks. Get in close and use Return!"
Ciara leapt forward before breaking into a full run. Her original acceleration from the leap allowed her to cover the distance between the two mega Pokémon.
"Use your ranged attacks! Focus Blast, Dragon Pulse!"
Ciara easily dodged the moves, using her ears as counter balances in order to weave around Gregory's attacks while still keeping her momentum. Gregory leapt backwards as she got close and used Earthquake.
"Dodge it!"
Ciara didn't need to be told. She leapt into the air and slammed into Gregory. The Sceptile was faster than her, but he stood no chance in terms of speed seeing as he was moving backwards, and she already reached top speed. She attacked him with a barrage of punches and kicks, sending him back several feet.
"This is our last stand Gregory. Tail Cannon!"
Mega Sceptile had an uncanny ability to shoot its tail at high speed. Its tail grew back in a few days. This skill is very powerful, but generally isn't used because the user would be slightly off-balance while it grew back, as well as being unable to use moves that require its tail. The move also affected its non-mega form, but couldn't be used in its non-mega form.
"Leap back and use Ear Slam!"
Ciara dug her ears into the ground to slow herself as she leapt backwards. She reversed her course and brought her ears down hard on the missile. She was flung forward at the Sceptile. Flipping wildly because of the force of the Tail Cannon.
"Triple Axel!"
"Leaf Blade!"
The two moves connected, with Gregory's Leaf Blade overpowering her move. Ciara bounced upwards and struck again, Gregory barely getting the upper hand. But Triple Axel hits three times. Ciara bounced one more time and struck Gregory. The double super effective ice type move proved too much for him.
"Great job Ciara. That concludes this battle."
Mark then turned back to the crowd who was cheering him for yet another win.
"Remember what I said today folks. Well then, I'm out of here. See you next time!"
Executive Stewart shut off the TV he and the rest of the Gamma Team mission branch were watching the champion's speech on. He turned towards all of them with a question.
"What can you take from this video?" he asked.
"The champion's a showboater," said Kazuma.
"The champion has a diverse set of fighting techniques he uses to gain the upperhand. One common strategy he did was to use the fact his Lopunny has very long and powerful ears," said Devon.
"Wrong class," said Jacob. "What I take is that Marlow should stop getting Olivia to kidnap people for their keystones and mega stones. We're attracting too much attention."
Olivia looked at Jacob. "What's so wrong with kidnapping people? It's super fun. The look on their face as they realize they're going to be permanently separated from those they love."
"I second that," said Molly.
Executive Stewart looked at both of them. All he could think was the fact he owed too many people massive favors.
"Actually," he said, regaining control of the conversation. "What we can take from this is the fact we've been good at covering our tracks. The authorities are soon going to become desperate, which means?"
Gabrielle was the one to answer. "Which means that they'll be jumping to and clues. Meaning this is the perfect chance to feed them false information."
"Precisely. I already have agents in place to give misinformation. But I'll still need a few of you later on in order to make sure they're off our scent. That's all for briefing. Head to the training room, Paul's waiting."
All of the mission branch was soon gathered in the training room, Paul Henderson stood at the front of the room.
"Alright people, we'll start today's training session with watching the video recorded today at Voyanna Square. Also, where's Marlow?"
Marlow wasn't in the room with the rest of the mission branch. He'd been late and or absent from training sessions and meetings alike.
Jacob shrugged. "He's working on an experiment. He's apparently on the verge of making a huge scientific breakthrough. Has something to do with mega evolution."
"Well I'm about to break through him if he doesn't get here!"
Olivia raised an eyebrow. "He'd probably already be broken by the time he got here. Apparently, what he's working on is super dangerous. Already, he's put two safe rooms out of commision."
"Whether he's here or not that doesn't matter," said Devon. "I take it we're going to be analyzing the battle between the champion and Jake. Not the speech."
"Correct. Seeing as Marlow isn't going to be here anytime soon. Let's begin."
He played the video for them to see. He periodically paused the video and asked questions. Once the entire battle was finished. He turned the player off.
"Alright people. What is one of the key components in this battle? Hint, it was used by both battlers."
Gabrielle raised her hand. "Custom moves."
"Exactly. That's why, we're going to be constructing our own. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Your custom moves can be an alteration of an existing move, or a different execution of an existing move. Actual custom moves can take months, or even years to perfectly develop. A few examples of what I want you all to be doing is stuff like utilizing Darkest Lariat as a throwing move, or having an Electivire use electric moves like Thunder from its tail rather than its body. Some of you have already started things like that, so I expect those of you who have to keep on doing so. Everyone head to the battle room and start training!"
Kazuma stood with his Electivire around a few training dummies in one part of the battle room. There was a dummy in front of Electivire, and three clustered at the back.
"Electivire, Ice Punch!"
Electivire's fist started forming ice as he rushed at the dummy in front of him, right before he was going to strike, Kazuma gave another command.
"Thunder!"
Electivire's tails rubbed against the plug like patch at his body momentarily before firing the move. While it used the powerful electric type move, it hit the first dummy with Ice Punch.
The Electivire however, couldn't maintain focus on Ice Punch and Thunder at the same time. The result was a weak Thunder completely missing the dummies by a wide margin.
Kazuma examined the results. "Hmm. I guess you'll have to focus on switching between the moves until you can do it without thinking. Old Man Henderson said that you should put more focus into executing Thunder rather than maintaining Ice Punch, seeing as you're going to be using Thunder right as you're going to hit Ice Punch. For now, you can only use it behind you. We'll fix that."
In a different part of the room, Devon's Rhyperior was easily getting the hang of a custom move. He was using a well known custom move called Stone Quake, which involved the combination of Earthquake and Stone Edge.
"Alright, try it again. Stone Quake!"
Devon's Rhyperior placed one of his hands on the ground, sending tremors towards a group of dummies. He then slammed his other hand into the ground and strengthened the tremors and sent a huge pillar of stone slamming into the dummies.
Devon gave a nod of approval. He looked at everyone else, wondering how they were doing. He turned back to his Rhyperior and went to put the dummies back in place.
Gabrielle meanwhile was following Henderson's advice. She was training Tony, her Incineroar, to use Darkest Lariat as a throw move.
"Try it again. Darkest Lariat, throw style!"
Incineroar gathered fire and darkness around his fists, then spun towards the dummy in front of him. He missed the grab and instead sent the dummy flying.
Gabrielle shook her hand. "No, you grab the enemy first, then spin. Kind of like Vital Throw."
She pulled out her phone and pulled up a video. An Incineroar using Darkest Lariat as a throwing move was somewhat common among competitive battlers.
"Just keep practicing. For now, just walk up to the dummy then use Darkest Lariat. You'll still have to be able to do the spin part with the extra balance."
Tony nodded. He walked up to one of the dummies and grabbed it before using Darkest Lariat. He spun the dummy around, damaging it with dark energy. Because he wasn't used to the extra weight, Tony stumbled and dropped the dummy, along with himself.
Gabrielle shrugged. "That's okay, practice-"
Suddenly, Marlow burst into the room. He stood at the entrance, catching his breath.
"I've done it. My research, my work. It's complete!" exclaimed Marlow, raising a hand triumphantly.
Henderson looked at him from where he was surveying everyone.
"I just hope it was worth it. You haven't been attending class."
"Who cares about class! Everything I've done up to now, all my research on mega evolution, all the things I've done, has led me to this point. This is the ultimate discovery. What I've achieved now, is only a start."
"What did you even discover?" asked Molly.
Marlow whipped around and glared at her. "Don't you dare think for a moment I'll tell you. No one except for me will know the details about my discovery. Last thing I need you to do is to treat my discovery as yours! It's my research! None of you deserve it. You'll all see the results of what I discovered in a battle against Devon!"
Devon looked at him. "I don't know the details of this research of yours, but I'm still going to win! Let's do this Rhyperior!"
Devon's Rhyperior gave a roar and walked in front Devon, clashing his arms as he got ready to fight.
"Fine then. I'm glad you accepted. Go, Sketch!"
The small Mimikyu appeared. The normally sinister grin painted on its face seemed much more menacing than usual.
Marlow twisted the broken watch on his arm. "It's time Sketch, show them your power. Mega evolve!"
A collective gasp filled the room as green energy flooded from his watch into Sketch. The Pokémon glowed rainbow as its features suddenly started shifting. The light suddenly turned black. When the light faded, Sketch was completely different.
Sketch was now in its shadowy, black form, its cloth discarded. Two long, sharp, claws made from shadow waved around in the air. Its red eyes glinted dangerously as tendrils of shadow that poured out of its body waved in the air. He floated in the air menacingly, staring down Devon's Rhyperior.
Devon's eyes practically doubled in size. "What the-"
"Behold! My research was able to prove that all Pokémon have the capability to mega evolve! Simply put, it's not a mega stone that allows it to mega evolve, it simply provides the energy needed for a Pokémon to mega evolve with that particular stone. Strange how we haven't discovered a Cradillyite or a Marowakite, I can't prove that. Take Rayquaza for example. A simple prayer allows it to mega evolve, without the use of a stone. Everytime I use Sketch's Omega Power, he reverts to this exact form. That's because the Omega Power provided enough energy for it to mega evolve! However, with my ingenuousness. I was able to create a way to safely mega evolve Sketch without him going berserk. The only drawback is the fact he can't remain in his mega form for too long. Also Mr. Henderson, my Pokémon have been practicing their own custom moves. Now Sketch, Use Stygian Slash!"
The five shadow tendrils on both sides of Sketch's body twisted together, forming two, extra long and thick tendrils. He rushed at Devon's Rhyperior and spun in mid-air, slamming the Pokémon and sending it staggering back.
"Now this isn't fair! Rhyperior, use Stone Edge!"
Rhyperior slammed his fist into the ground, creating a pillar of rock that slammed into Sketch, sending the Pokmeon flying backwards.
"That isn't enough to stop him! Sketch, use Hone Claws!"
Sketch scraped his claws along the floor, sparks forming as he became stronger.
"Now, while he's low to the ground! Stone Quake!"
"Get ready Sketch!"
The Rhyperior planted one hand on the ground, sending strong tremors throughout the room; he was about to use Stone Edge when Marlow gave his next command.
"Mimic!"
A glowing orb of light emitted from Sketch and flew at Rhyperior, copying his move. Sketch then dodged the Stone Edge as Devon's Rhyperior used it.
"Now, use Earthquake!"
It was over for Devon's Rhyperior. Sketch slammed both claws and all of his tendrils on the ground, creating a huge tremor.
Rhyperior's sturdy defenses couldn't handle the boosted Earthquake from the mega evolved Pokémon. He stumbled in pain and started falling over, about to faint.
Suddenly, Sketch rushed behind the beaten Pokémon. Moving faster than anyone expected. He then used Astonish, creating a horrifying projection that slammed the Rhyperior in the back.
Marlow laughed. "You see how powerful he became? I don't need my damn Salamence to mega evolve."
Everyone just stared in shock. The silence was broken when Executive Stewart walked in.
"That was horrifying. Anyways, Devon, go heal up your Pokémon. You, Jacob and Kazuma are needed for a special mission."
There were protests from everyone else except for Marlow and Devon. All they had been doing was training and other stuff save for Kazuma, who was busy reopening his coffee shop.
"I will hear no arguments about it. I would have originally sent Elaine instead of Kazuma, but she's on a special mission, so I'm stuck with you guys. Gabrielle, I also need something from you."
"What about me or Olivia?" asked Molly.
Executive Stewart fixed her with a stare. "You two are probably the least subtle."
Kazuma, Devon, and Jacob were in a bar known as Butler's Trades, located in Voyanna City. They were wearing their normal clothes as requested. They were seated at a table, waiting for a man named James Turner.
Kazuma was wearing an orange jacket, jeans, and his signature T-shirt that said "always be yourself, unless your Noivernman, always be Noiverman", and white gloves as usual. Devon was wearing a clack hoodie, black cargo pants, and black fingerless gloves. Jacob however, went more on the serious side. He wore a white and red plaid shirt and khaki pants.
James Turner was part of Team Rocket, not to be confused with the James who worked with Jessie and Meowth. They were meeting him in this place to make a trade.
The trade involved the Gamma Team spending a large amount of money in order to obtain some more of the Alpha Serum. However, this batch of the Alpha Serum was mixed with the original serum Team Rocket used on Eevee, giving it extra mutational properties.
As they waited. Jacob couldn't help but notice the number of people walking around. They didn't seem to have anything to do. They just wandered aimlessly, sometimes inspecting the people in the bar.
"What's up with those dudes? The one's walking around." asked Jacob.
Devon shrugged. "They're probably here to enforce security. See those batons they have? They're partially hidden. This place is pretty shady, so it makes sense to have some order."
"Look over there," said Kazuma, pointing at another table.
Everyone glanced at where he was pointing. Two people were leaning over something on the table, they saw one of them pass money while the other passed a bag of something.
"Looks like we're not the only ones doing shady business trades," said Jacob.
"You're exactly right!" came a voice.
All three of them jumped at the sound, causing two of the "bystanders" to turn towards them, casting a baleful eye on them.
"Sorry 'bout that. I'm James Turner. I came with my two companions, but their names shan't be said."
James was a short and stocky man. He had brown hair and gray eyes. He wore a simple leather jacket and brown pants. He was holding a briefcase in one hand and a radio in the other.
"Don't mind the radio, it's just in case things get gnarly 'round here. Your boss said that I should expect Oak Agency members. Particularly the special ones that have been getting loads of attention these days."
"That's right," said Kazuma. "It was the Gamma Team that notified them."
James sat down across from them and sighed. "I'm still ain't sure why'd ya do something like that. I thought you guys were layin low."
Devon nodded. "We're planning ahead. Right now, the Oak Agency, police force, and any authority out there are going to be jumping at any lead they can get. We have people on the inside whose job is to get information about criminal activity. With them in place, we can feed the Oak Agency misinformation. Of course, we can't just feed them misinformation, they'll get suspicious. We have to make sure we can get their trust first. Once we do that, these criminal activity trackers can start getting 'leads'. Anyone can give a false lead. Don't worry, the information we gave through our agents isn't a hundred percent accurate. As long as we get this done quickly, we should have no problem."
James nodded, satisfied with the answer. "Alright, I suppose that's why you wanted to meet in Voyanna despite abandoning your base there. I assume you have the money."
"We do," said Jacob.
"Though I have a question," said Kazuma.
Jacob and Devon gave him a warning look. They knew that he was a joker and could say offending things at times.
"Why did you want to meet at a bar? You're making this seem like the chemical trade scene between the Cacnature and the Jester."
James looked at his shirt. "Ah, I see you're a fan of Noivernman. As to answer your question, the Butler's Trade is a known chemical trade area to those in the underworld. Anyways, we're wasting time."
James pulled out his briefcase and opened the lid. Inside were twelve small canisters, holding eight ounces of grayish purple liquid.
"Behold, the serum you asked for. Where's the money?"
Jacob pulled out a small rectangular briefcase. He opened the lid and showed him the money inside.
James raised an eyebrow. "Cash? Not a check."
Kazuma smiled. "Just a precaution. Once we activate the lock, the only way to open it without breaking it is using the remote activation at our base. We'll open it once we're able to confirm that this serum actually works."
James smiled back. "We have a similar precaution here. Inside each of these canisters is a small bomb. If a canister lid is opened without us deactivating it, the canister will explode."
At that moment. Kazuma registered movement from the corner of his eye. He turned his head slightly and saw someone. More importantly, he recognized the person from the Oak Agency raid and the Groudon summoning. Kazuma realized with a start it was the manga nerd Haruka.
James saw the look of dread on Kazuma's face. He reached over the table towards the two briefcases.
"I'd hate to do this fella's but-"
"Don't you dare!" shouted Kazuma. He slammed a pokéball on the table. "Out, Electivire!"
A flash of light emitted from the ball as the table was crushed by the sudden weight of the Electivire. Kazuma snatched one of the briefcases out of the air and started running.
Two flashes of light appeared from elsewhere in the room right as Kazuma sent out his Electivire. A Cinderace and a Delphox appeared behind him.
"Forget the money and run!" shouted Kazuma to his teammates. "Our pal James needs it anyways!"
"Kazma, you messed this up!" shouted Devon as he sent out his Rhyperior. "Earthquake!"
Kazuma dove as someone tried tackling him. "In order to survive, you have to act on instinct. Don't wait around for things to happen. Electivire, Earthquake!"
Both Earthquakes bought time for the Gamma Team members to escape, but there were still people and Pokémon ahead of them.
Jacob sent out Lily, his Hisuian Liligant. "Take them out! Leaf Blade!"
"Electivire, Thunder!"
Without turning around, Kazuma's Electivire lashed out a powerful Thunder. The ground exploded as the powerful electric type move blasted everywhere.
"Magia, Psychic!"
Out of nowhere, Kaumza felt his feet lift off the ground. He was suddenly jerked backwards as Ellen's Delphox used Psychic. He lost his grip on the briefcase as it clattered to the ground.
Kazuma hit the ground hard. He painfully got to his feet and immediately dove to the ground as someone tried putting handcuffs on him.
"Dangit Kazuma!" shouted Jacob. "Lily!"
Lily rushed to Kazuma's aid, attacking Magia with Poison Jab bravely despite the type disadvantage she was at. Before Magia could react, a Pyro Blast from Haruka's Cinderace slammed into her.
Lily's feeble attempt at a rescue gave Kazuma enough time to send out his Goodra. The dragon type Pokémon instantly came to his aid. She bravely fought off Magia, Haruka's Cinderace, and two other Pokémon. Blowing all of them back with a Sludge Wave.
"One thing you didn't think about was the fact that me and Goodra will always look out for each other! After I took her in from that terrible garbage area, we became an inseparable pair. Draco Meteor!"
At that exact moment, someone's Pokémon used Explosion. The devastating move tore through the entire area. Goodra stepped in front of Kazuma, trying to protect him from the move.
The last thing Kazuma saw was a brilliant flash of light.
Three hours later
"WHAT IN THE NAME OF ARCEUS WERE YOU THINKING?" shouted Executive Stewart.
Kazuma and Jacob were in a Gamma Team infirmary, back in their base. When the explosion happened, Devon had already made it out safely. Kazuma had taken some damage, but Goodra had protected him well. As for Jacob, he'd hidden under a few tables.
Kazuma looked at Executive Stewart. "I was trying to make sure the mission was a success."
"A success? You'd call what you did a success? Almost all the canisters were destroyed except for three! THREE!"
"He was trying to make off-"
"Really now? The way I heard, you leapt to conclusions! Sure he was reaching for a briefcase, but he could've been trying to take back the Alpha serum! The trade hadn't been completed, so it would make sense to take back the serum, especially when the Oak Agency appeared! The trade still could've been carried out! You simply saw the damn person! The way I heard it, he hadn't spotted you yet!"
Kazuma tried saying something, but Executive Stewart cut him off.
"I'm going to have a fitting punishment for you. Because you're the one who caused all this. But I have somewhere to go now. Count yourself lucky Zack, but only for now!"
Two hours later
Executive Stewart was now on a boat, heading towards an island.
This island was long since uninhabited. The island had served as the first secret Gamma Team base, back when the Gamma Team wasn't actually the Gamma Team. This lab had been used by him, Scarlet, and a few trusted scientists nineteen years ago.
Scarlet now summoned him here. She'd been using the huge underground area as a place to contain Groudon, tethering the legendary Pokémon with her psychic powers.
Containing Groudon here was simply a way for her to try and get Groudon to bend to her will. The powerful Pokémon was resisting her efforts to command it, but it was only a matter of time.
"I still don't get why we're sailing to an abandoned island," said Henderson.
"Give it up man, you know he isn't going to tell you," said Justin. "Some top secret mission or something."
Another executive member next to Justin shook his head. "If it was a mission he'd just send the mission branch."
"Well it's a mission for me. None of you need to know about it," said Executive Stewart. "Anyways, we're here."
He strode towards the front of the ship and calmly jumped onto the sound. The rest of the executive branch watched him go.
Henderson turned to the executive branch member that had responded to Justin.
"We need to talk. Your daughter Molly has been showing a severe disinterest in my class. Learning these battle str-"
"Not interested."
Executive Stewart walked through a low tunnel. The tunnel, once made out of steel, was severely damaged. He avoided rocks and uneven patches of ground.
He made it to the end of the tunnel and was met with a very deep chasm. He sighed, knowing that he couldn't make it to the bottom on his own.
"Omega, go." he said.
Omega was a monster. A hybrid made from almost every single pseudo legendary. The only pseudo legendaries that weren't a part of it were Metagross, Baxcalibur. He was a side project of the original owner of Pepper, a Gamma Team scientist named Hans. He'd been ordered to form the Pokémon when Scarlet discovered his original project of Pepper.
Omega had a big, orange body, with four Salamence shaped wings that folded along his body. Its back was covered with black Hydreigon wings. Its entire body was covered in Kommo-o scales, and it had a Dragonite shaped head with Dragapult horns on the side of its head. Its long, Garchomp-like tail ended in a ghostly wisp. It had powerful Tyranitar-like legs and Kommo-o-like arms with sharp claws at the end. Finally, two long Goodra-like horns extended from the top of its head.
Omega glared at Executive Stewart and snarled. Its long fangs appeared as it opened its mouth. Executive Stewart simply stepped forward and smacked it across its face.
Omega instantly reared back and started crying, covering its head with its paws.
Executive Stewart shook his head. Omega, despite looking like a destructive, monstrous Pokémon, was a bit cowardly and was very prone to crying at any increase of emotion.
Executive Stewart got onto the Pokémon and made it fly down the chasm. They eventually landed at the bottom, where the chasm led to another tunnel.
Executive Stewart returned Omega to its ball and started down the tunnel. After a short walk, he made it to the end.
He was met with the sight of Scarlet in a criss-cross sitting position. She was levitating in mid-air in front of Groudon. The legendary Pokémon was completely still, psychic waves of energy washing over it.
"Why did you call me here?" asked Executive Stewart when he reached her.
"I wanted to ask you a few things. However, Groudon needed my immediate attention. How'd the mission go?"
"Absolutely terrible. Kazuma messed everything up. He was way too impulsive. You should've warned me he was impulsive."
"I've already told you. I can't read him as well as anyone else. I can only read the biggest thing on his mind, which is usually either something about coffee or Noivernman."
"Well he still messed it up. Three out of the original twelve canisters remained intact. Which reduces the amount of high end Alpha Dynamax Pokémon we can produce from thirty six to nine."
"Why can't you have our top chemical scientist just replicate one. What was her name again?"
"You mean Gwendolyn? Well guess what? She tried! But no, Team Rocket serums are apparently too complex."
"Don't worry yourself Dakota. Once I get control of Groudon. We can use him to defeat Kyogre. We'll use the Red Orb to put him in his primal state once we get it. One another not, I take it you used Omega to get here. How was it?"
"The beast has a weak mind. It always tries to threaten me, but a well placed slap sends it to tears."
Scarlet sighed. "An unfortunate side effect. Hans told me about it. But he did succeed at one thing. He removed the one instinct Pokémon lost through their domestication. The instinct to kill. Already, we've witnessed what Pokémon do when they want to kill, as seen with Sorelflare."
Executive Stewart shook his head. "The Pokémon we made nineteen years ago was only an example of what happens when Pokémon decide they don't want to be tethered by mankind. In reality, all Pokémon have the desire to kill. It's only natural."
That's the end of the chapter. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Just to be clear, Baxcalibur is the pseudo legendary of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Sorry for the late chapter, I got caught up in something important. See you next time!
