Annabeth huffed as she slowly walked round the track field. Piper skipped a few paces in front of her, fawning over the new boy in her class. Jason, Annabeth thought his name was? She wasn't really paying attention.
'And his smile Beth! His smile was so cute! I think i honestly died when he laughed at my joke. It wasn't even that funny! But god he was so sweet and laughed anyway and -'
Annabeth rolled her eyes and against her will found a smile creep onto her face.
'Piper, you fall in love with every new boy that comes to this school.'
Piper laughs softly and slows her pace to fall in line with Annabeth, tugging nervously on her braid.
'I know. I just - gods I don't know. This one just feels different, you know?'
Annabeth didn't know, actually. It had been years since she had a crush on someone, and that didn't exactly end well.
Before she could voice her thoughts to Piper, a yell from across the field stole their attention.
'HEADS!'
Piper ducked on impulse but Annabeth was slower to react, causing a football to smack straight into the side of her head.
She groaned and grabbed the ball, glancing round for the idiot that threw it.
No surprise when Percy ran over, stupid smile on his face.
'You!' She pointed threateningly at him, causing the boy to laugh.
'I did warn you, i said heads and everything!'
Annabeth rolled her eyes and threw the ball back, which he caught effortlessly. She spun on her heel and continued walking round the field, minor throbbing in her head. She expected the boy to walk away and leave her to sulk in peace, so you can imagine her distaste as he jogged to catch up with her.
'Oh my god, what do you want now?'
He grinned boyishly and pointed at her.
'You know, maybe you should be the one apologising, your big head got in the way of my amazing throw.'
Piper snorted at the comment but quickly stopped as Annabeth glared. She grinned sheepishly.
'Im just gonna, you know-' Piper quickly turned back and jogged towards the school.
Annabeth rolled her eyes and stared at Percy from the corner of her eye.
He was wearing his swim hoodie, and the light blue brought out the colour in his eyes. He didn't look awful, she supposed.
'The only reason my head is so big is because its full of ways I'm going to murder you.'
Percy laughed and grinned down at the girl, who looked like a sulking puppy.
'Oh cmon, don't be such a loser. That throw was good, admit it.'
She huffed once more and crossed her arms, eyes narrowing at him.
'It wasn't the worse thing I've seen you do.'
Annabeth tried to contain her heartbeat as a grin lit up his face.
'Was that a compliment?' He uttered in feigned shock, placing a hand on his heart.
She shoved him gently and continued walking past him.
'Nope, just means I've seen you do a lot of dumb things.'
Percy placed a hand under his chin, tapping it thoughtfully. She raised an eyebrow at the amused glint in his eye.
'Hmm? Like this?'
Before she could react, he shoved her as hard as he could causing her to fall back and land arse first onto the mats.
She could hear his maniac laughter as he sprinted away from her, and she pushed herself upwards, straightening her top and glaring sinisterly at him.
'God, I'm actually going to kill you!'
She raced after the boy, the sound of the couch yelling they both had detention fading into the background, drown out by Percy's laughter.
