Heavy drowsiness hit me as I saw orange through my eyelids. Groaning I turned and faced my pillow. Though the night before had been great, I was extremely drained. I wanted to lie in bed for hours.
"Mana, come on we got to get up, everyone is meeting at ten." I heard Yugi's voice through the curtain. Oh shit, I forgot we were decorating the school for the soccer match tomorrow. I groaned again, not wanting to leave the warm soft cocoon I had made.
Sticking my toes out to the cold and quickly retreating. Argh! Why?!
Yanking the covers off of myself, and jumping from the bed, I wrapped my arms around myself, rushing to my dressing gown.
"How long do I have?"
"Time for coffee, and to wake up." I heard his amused voice. "You came back late, how long did you swim for?"
"I made myself so tired I didn't dream." I said, not technically lying as I put on my warm slippers, staying on my side of the curtain.
"No more Egypt dreams."
"Not last night?" I mumbled, wrapping my gown closer to myself. I placed my poker face, before pulling the curtain away.
It didn't take long to decorate the school with pictures of our mascot and banners with the teams name on it. As the boys helped put up a piñata Téa caught my eye and gestured for me to come with her. With a suspicion about why, I grungily follow her.
"Have you told him yet?" Téa asked. I shook my head, my cheeks turning pink.
"I can't, he can't remember this, it feels like I'm making it up. I know I'm not." I said as I saw her open her mouth. "But, I just can't bring myself to talk about it." I felt my eyes burn. "He won't feel the emotional attachment," I said my voice cracking slightly, I blinked and turned away from my friend.
"Mana," she gasped, turning my body and hugging me. The burning got stronger and my face twisted. "Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." She said, I felt her top getting wet.
"No, it's stupid." I say, trying to pull away to control myself. She lets me, I wipe my eyes and then fan them, as though I was trying to dry the water before it could betray me. Téa concerned and sympathetic face nearly set me off again. "Ok, I'm calm, they are going to wonder where we are."
"You sure you're ok?" she said.
"Yeah, are my eyes red?" I said turning to look in the mirror, my eyes looked a little shinier, but I doubted the boys would notice. Thank God I couldn't be bothered to wear makeup today.
"No,"
"Ok let's go back out." I said taking a deep breath.
Yugi POV
Mana was biting her lip as she sat crossed legged on the floor. Her right knee bobbing up and down as she read her math textbook. Out of the corner of my eye I could see the Pharaoh watching her too. His eyes soft, and a small smile on his face. I probed for his feelings. I gasped as I felt the strong warmth and fondness that flooded over me. He hadn't even realised I was probing!
She sneezed, and his adoration for her grew.
/I felt that/ I told him snapping him out of it. He looked at me, his emotions panicked and embarrassed. I had never felt him embarrassed.
\Feel what sorry, Yugi.\ he said trying to pass it off.
/Don't play that card, you can't hide your emotions from me anymore than I can from you. The prochecy is coming true isn't. Your falling for her again.\
I felt him grow more uncomfortable.
/You have! You've fallen in love with her! Were you ever not?/
\I – don't be absurd, Yugi. We have a strong friendship and –\
/Ha! I can feel you getting flustered! You never get flustered! Your my best friend you can tell me anything. You know that right? Have you never stopped loving her?/
\I don't think I ever stopped\ he said swallowing his nervousness a little, he blocked his emotions from me.
/You should tell her./
\Yugi, I can't impose a 5000 year ago relationship on her. She grew up in this time, her memories are reaccuring in pieces. I can't make it more difficult for her. In her mind we are children playing together.\
"Hey Yug, you completed this equation I can't get passed the second part." She said, her voice was stressed and her forehead creased. I felt the Pharaoh's emotions again, he was thinking about how adorable she looked. I smiled at him, he caught my eye and flushed with embarrassment.
"Sure Mana, I'll help here," I said sitting on the floor next to my sister…
Mana POV
We got up early the next day to cheer on the school. Just wearing jeans and a long T-Shirt. I wore water proof mascara in case Téa cornered me and I overreacted again.
"Yugi! Mana! Téa's here!" we heard Grandpa call.
"Can I come through?" I asked, hovering by the curtain.
"Yep," Yugi said, I pulled the curtain back, and saw him putting the millennium puzzle around his neck. It was now attached to a chain. Yugi suddenly looked to the side.
"We are?" he said, I smirked. If I didn't know there was a 5000 thousand year old Pharaoh in the puzzle I would have thought he was crazy. "What do you mean by that?" there was a pause, I leaned against the wall and waited. "Well, we're in this together no matter what."
"Er guys, hate to break up the bromance, but the loop, bring me in it." I said twirling my index finger. Yugi grinned sheepishly.
"Yugi! Mana!" Grandpa shouted.
"Nothing important," Yugi said. "Lets go and meet Téa."
"About time," Téa said. "We are going to be late for the big game, what took you so long?"
"Blame him," I said nodding towards Yugi.
"Sorry Téa," Yugi said. "I was talking to the spirit of the millennium puzzle. He seems kind of worried."
"About what?" she asked, I looked too.
"About the future, I think he said something about our destiny being unclear. Ever since we defeated Pegasus the Spirit's been taking about fate. Like there's something more he has to do. When you think about it, he doesn't really know much about himself, like where he came from. Why he's here, but I'm babbling and we're late. We should go." He smiled.
"Oh right the soccer game, we defiantly don't want to miss it. But My Muto."
"Bye Grandpa," we both said as we began to speed walk.
"Enjoy yourselves, if the game ends early, feel free to come back and help me sweep."
I laughed, and waved as we went around the corner.
"So, who do you think is going to win?" Téa said.
"Win? Win what?" Yugi said.
"Earth to Yugi. The soccer game at school."
"He'll have been mentally talking to his new BBF" I teased.
"Future's told things unfold." A man said, I automatically got a bad vibe, like, Pegasus's video bad vibe.
"Step up boy, and I'll reveal the secrets of your future."
"Yugi?" Teas said as he stopped, I groaned.
"Can you really see into the future?" he asked the man.
"Yugi, no. I got a bad feeling." I said, hoping he would listen to me.
"Relax Mana," he said. "You are Mana right? Memories before Muto's vanished, always unconsciously wondering where you come from."
Double bad feeling.
"Boy in order to tell your future, I must hold a personal item. Your necklace will do nicely."
Nope!
"Yug, lets go," I said trying to drag him away.
"I can't, the spirit needs to know. I need to know. Just for a second," he said to the guys. I tried to subtly have a running stance in case he bolted.
"Hmm I see something, I see this millennium item now belongs to me!" he threw the table up and fled down the alley/.
"My millilumen puzzle!" Yugi cried.
"Yugi follow him, Téa and I will try and cut him off." I said grabbing Téa and running around the side of the building.
"There is no sign of that fortune teller anywhere," Téa panted, as we ran down the street for the third time. We saw Bakura, he looked at us confused.
"Hey, what's the rush?" he asked.
"Someone stole Yug's puzzle," I said.
"No, where is Yugi?"
"In the alley," Téa said.
"We split up to find him,"
"Well then, don't let me detain you keep looking, and I'll get some help."
"Thanks Bakura," we said, taking off again.
"Ok you go get the boys, I'll keep looking. Meet at the alley in half an hour." I said. Tea nodded and ran off.
I ran the block again, before heading back to the alley. I noticed a piece of paper with a red arrow on it. It was a trap! I ran to begin to follow the trail, but someone had messed with them. Seriously! Arrows faced backwards, to the ground and roof. I groaned, how were we going to find Yugi and the Pharaoh.
"Hey, you're here," Téa cried, I turned to see her with Joey and Tristan.
"We have a problem guys look," I said.
"The arrows," Joey said
"I know, we're going to have to run and shout,"
"Yugi!" we all yelled.
"Where is he?"
I closed my eyes and focused on my bond with him. I felt a pull along to the left side. I also felt my energy drain. I needed to start carrying my staff with me at all times.
"This way." I yelled running in the direction the connection was pulling me.
"Huh?" Tristan questioned.
"Just trust me," I said, I heard them running behind me.
At the next turn I stopped and closed my eyes again.
"Mana what are you – ?"
"Shh," I cut Tristan off. I felt a tug right. "This way," I said taking off again…
I turned another corner and saw a building on fire. Oh no.
"Check out there's smoke," Joey said, as we ran towards it. Oh God Yugi was in there, I just knew it.
"Let's go!" I said running faster towards the burning building.
We could hear someone yelling from inside.
"Help me!" they screamed.
"Someone's in there," Tristan yelled.
"Don't worry we're here to help you!" Téa yelled. "We've got to get them out of danger,"
"We'll try to get in, you call 911." Tristan said.
"I'm on it," Téa said rushing to find a phone.
"Mana, go with –"
"You don't need two people to call 911, I'm staying with you. I can help."
Tristan went to grab the handle, but it burnt him. Joey began to kick it.
"Ok on three," Joey said, stepping backwards, Tristan stood beside him.
"Three!" Tristan yelled, as they arm-barged the door.
"Three!" they tried again and failed. On the eight try Joey yelled.
"Tristan, you were hitting that door like a girl scout, this time hard." They both grunted as they hit the door, it burst open and the heat of the flames stormed out through it. Bandit Keith came flying out dressed like the fortune-teller. Huh?
"This place is haunted!" he screamed knocking the boys flying.
"Did we just rescue Bandit Keith?" Joey said.
"Huh, no way,"
"Forget him, let's make sure no one else is in trouble."
"Right Joey,"
"Ok guys, hold back a second." I said, I took a deep breath and tried to muster all my energy. "Ha yah!" I cried, the spell I wanted worked as water began to pour from my palms.
"How –"
"Never mind, just hurry up and search it's hard." I yelled over the roaring flames, going inside the building.
"Anyone in here? Yugi!" Joey said.
"Yugi!" I yelled.
He was clutching the puzzle which was attached to the duelling arena.
"I can't leave yet, I have to finish putting the millennium puzzle back together," Yugi yelled over the flames. Huh?
I tuned them out focusing on my energy, I could feel my legs getting heavier. I kept the flames away from us.
"Hurry up and get the puzzle off the chain!" I screamed as less water left my palms, I pushed to strengthen it again.
I wasn't sure how much time had passed but I heard the boys yell.
"Three!"
They must be trying to get the puzzle free, I pushed my body harder, just a little longer I told myself as my brain felt foggy.
"Hurry up! I can't do this much longer!" I cried as the world turned black for a few seconds, I blinks and began to cry out.
I listened hard waiting for the all clear, I heard the metal of the puzzle clank against the ground.
I turned to see them picking something up.
"You got him?" I pushed the words from my mouth.
"Yeah,"
"Great, oh and Joey?
"Yeah,"
"Catch." I said as my world blacked I felt arms catch me…
