Hello again everyone! Thank you for all the lovely comments about me taking my moving break! It was a little longer than expected due to one of my best friends since childhood battling COVID since August. She lost her battle on the 28th.
So as you can imagine stress isn't a great environment to write in.
See you all around the internet Enjoy!
At noon the limo pulled up outside the house and Seto and Mokuba came out, alongside a lawyer. I frowned then I realised it was probably my paperwork that we were going to be dealing with.
I felt a weird nervousness as Seto, Mokuba and their lawyer came up our stairs.
Grandpa greeted them at the door, Yugi and I waiting in the sitting room.
"Um, I guess I'll make us drinks." I muttered, getting ready to stand. Yugi beat me to it.
"No I'll do that," he said. Touching my arm. Yami stayed in the room, transparent and watching. His translucent hand on mine.
"I suppose we should start with any records you have on Mana," the lawyer broke the silence.
"Here is all the paperwork, from when we got her." Grandpa said handing him the file.
"Uncertifying a death seems like it would be pretty difficult," I murmur.
"Actually, it's surprisingly straight forward. Between the DNA we have, and comparing your early dental records to now, we can show very easily that you are indeed Mana Anderson"
"That was our last name?" I looked at Seto for conformation. I hadn't even thought of that! Of course, I wouldn't be Kaiba, they were adopted after stupid, I scolded myself.
"Yes,"
"Oh," I said nervously.
"With the fast passing we are doing it shouldn't take more than a week to revert your information back to your birth identity." The lawyer said cheerfully.
"Does that mean I will lose Muto?" I asked them. I looked at Grandpa, then as the door clicked Yugi walking in.
"If you want to keep your name, we will sort out the paperwork, Mana." Seto said gently, Yugi handed him his drink, then continued around the room.
"Yes, please." I said quietly. "So, um… what happens with school now we know I'm only fifteen,"
"Due to your circumstances, I can't imagine there being a problem with remaining in your year, and graduating with your friends. Unless of course you wish join the classmates your age. We have already informed the school, and when you apply to college you would receive allowances in dorms occupation and aid –"
"She doesn't have to worry about college," Seto said sharply.
"Yeah, I got that chariot scholarship," I said, knowing full well that wasn't what Seto meant.
"Is there anything that is troubling you Mana," Grandpa said gently. "Anything you have been worried about throughout this process?"
"Uh… I don't think so," I said looking at each person in the room.
"Then I believe the formalities are over." The Lawyer said.
"The estate agent will be here in an hour, we wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to focus on Mana," Mokuba said to the group.
After a few hours we narrowed it down to five houses we wanted to see. We all agreed Grandpa should get the final say.
"Ok Mana! Let's go!" Mokuba cried as the group, decided what days they wanted to visit the locations.
"Uh - "
"We agreed. "Seto said, glaring it the puzzle put. I rolled my eyes, but looked at Grandpa trying to
read his face.
"We have had the pleasure of knowing you loving and being with you for years. I think it's only fair that your brothers get to enjoy your company." he said.
"I'll go pack some things." I said nervously.
Mokuba chatted excitedly in the limo, Seto and I stayed quiet. I was sure Seto, could hear the butterflies fluttering in my stomach.
"You can pick whichever room you like, but
there is a huge one next to mine." M continued. I saw Seto looking at me. Worry in his eyes.
"Deep breath Mana," he said, putting his hand over mine. "Mokuba, don't overwhelm her."
"It's not you." I assured him as his exciteded little face changed. " "I imagine I feel pretty similar to
when you left the orphanage."
"But, you were happy." Seto said.
Well -before I knew how I lost my memory, I have been nervous of loud cars. If I try and remember it's likely that –"
"Your first memory would be the crash," Seto finished.
The two left me alone in the room, I sat on the bed looking at the huge TV. Mine and Yugi's
room could fit in here, and a little more. I sighed getting up and moving to my bag. I grabbed
my phone and messaged the group that I was here. Then throwing my phone on the bed I began to
unpack…
Mahad was watching me carefully as I concentrated on the item in front of me.
"I can't do it!" I said, my eyes burning in frustration.
"Yes you can, Mana. I know you will be a great sorcerer." He said gently. I looked back at the book and concentrated on what Mahad told me. How magic worked. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I imagined the book floating.
"You did it!" he said excitedly. I opened my eyes to see the book floating about half a metre from the table it had been on. I squealed in delight, only for the book bang back down to earth.
Mahad laughed, I joined him.
"Concentrate Mana," he reminded me, still amused.
In my dressing gown cold from the dream, I made my way down to the kitchen, I couldn't believe how big this place was. Once I got there I saw Seto was already awake his eyes glued to the stack of paperwork in front of him as he ate his breakfast.
"Morning," I said, alerting him of my presence. He looked up and smiled.
"Good morning Mana, how did you sleep?"
"Ok, I had an Egypt dream, nothing huge,"
"Hmmm," he said eyeing the dressing gown.
"I get cold," I said a little embaressed, a middle ages woman came up to me smiling.
"What would you like for breakfast dear?"
"Oh, err. Just some porridge please, with some honey if you have it."
She smiled before taking off into the other room.
"How many people do you have working here?" I said to Seto in amazement.
He smirked at my reaction to the woman.
"A few," he said before going back to his pile of reading. As he signed the bottom of one of the pages; Mokuba walked in.
"Morning Mana, morning Seto he said cheerfully as he choose the seat beside me. The woman was back immediately.
"You're usual Mokuba," she said smiling.
"Yes please Jill," he was beaming at her, and again she was gone through the door. I shook my head in amazement.
The same woman came back a minute later with my breakfast.
"Coffee dear?"
"Uh yes please," she poured me some coffee and I held the warm mug for a moment before taking a sip.
"Seto can I –"
"You have too much energy as it is Mokuba," he said signing another document.
"Mana!" Mokuba said turning to me, after scowling at his brother. "We are going to go shopping for some stuff. What time do you wanna go? After breakfast? After lunch?"
"Seto was right about that energy," I teased him. "I don't mind whenever you two are ready. I'll go get dressed after this is you want,"
"Can we go this morning, Seto?" Mokuba turned back to his brother.
"Let me finish this paperwork, then we can go," he replied taking another bite of his food, turning the page over as he chewed.
"Yes!" Mokuba said, grinning at me. I laughed at him, taking a spoonful of my porridge watching them both.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad.
