Chapter-5: Sight Seeing
Ryne's P.O.V:
So here I was gazing at the HUD, a dumbstruck expression painted on my face with a brain that couldn't comprehend what just happened and a fragile heart that wanted desperately to believe that all of this just wasn't a dream.
A lone tear fell from my right eye which went unnoticed by my mother as I tried to reach the HUD with my small hands. When the moment passed and the HUD stayed I was driven out of my stupor as the brightest smile till coming to this world bloomed on my face. I started thanking which ever autho- *ahem* god was watching over me for this miracle. And then my child like body started giggling without any restraint. Because even after having a mature consciousness a child's body can only show happiness in a very few ways. 'They aren't gone. They're still with me.', was my only thoughts.
As sounds of giggles reached Linda's ear who was looking for suitable clothes for going out, she looked behind her to see her son giggling continuously. To her his laughter was like the sweet chirping of birds. After choosing the garments she wanted them to wear she approached her son who seems to calm down a little but the bright smile on his face was more than telling. "Aren't you a happy boy? Want to share the reason of being in such a good mood with me~?", she asked me with the kind smile that a mother only saves for her child.
I just smiled at her sheepishly. 'Even if I could speak I simply couldn't express the emotions in simple words. All my happiness, joy, sadness from my former life came back to me. And now it's time to have everything back that I lost after coming here', he thought with determination never seen before. 'But for now lets concentrate on other matters, I'll look what's on there later', with that my expressions and stature became calm and I faced my mother.
My mother took me in her arms and went back where she placed the clothes. She put me on the bed and said, "Lets get you dressed first". So she started undressing my current garments which was always one of the embarrassing things I have to endure as a baby.
Half an hour later :
Here I was in the arms of my mother looking at my surroundings with awe and amazement. From the back Liya was trailing us with a shopping basket on her hands. I looked down at the light brown shirt and black pants that I was wearing. It also had blue edgings at the corners. On the other hand Linda was wearing a light colored yellow long dress which came to her lower knees which had white frills at the bottom and chest part, she was also wearing white pants which goes hand in hand with her dress. In my opinion she looks like a beautiful sunflower than anything else. For Liya, she wore her usual maid outfit. And that definitely did look good on her. Just like Whitebrim use to say- "Maid outfits are justice!".
My eyes were darting around from one place to another as the giddiness inside me grows. It wasn't the beauty nor the architecture of my surroundings that made me looking at everything with awe. It was the people, the bustling market, the lively atmosphere and the culture. The sun wasn't hidden neither was the sky darkened by smoke, everyone around us took their steps with a purpose. Their eyes had a spark to them which in his previous life would never be seen. Most of the houses and buildings were made out of simple stone and wood like the Eastern-European style in the seventies or eighties and the road was really just made of large stone bricks. Nothing too fancy but the city has a charm to it which makes it more interesting. Even the heat of the afternoon sun and the loud sounds around me couldn't damper my amazement on actually roaming the city.
There were a noticeable increase in people as we started to enter the market district. We had a few kitchen supplies to buy since those just ran out recently. At the moment we were between the noble and common district where the market district happened to be. People from all walks of life were around us doing their livelihood. Commoners, shopkeepers, soldiers, adventures and rows and rows of merchant carriages full of goods walked the streets around us. I was looking at everything with great focus and interest until the smell of delectable items and baked goods hit me like a tidal wave. 'Man those look so appetizing and delicious!. I can't wait to try them once my teeth grows', I thought to myself as drool beings to fill my mouth as my eyes still lingeries on the bakery and the huge piece of meat which was being grilled outside. To my embarrassment my stomach made a grumbling sound.
This unfortunately didn't get unnoticed by my mother as she chuckled to herself and said, "Don't worry honey it won't take much longer ones this is done and we go back home. So be a little patient for mommy won't you?".
I just huffed to myself at the lack of control over my infant body. But that soon went by as we came in front of a three story shop and entered it through the door. As soon as we entered the smell of different chemical hit my nostrils and my mother let out a sound of indignation. From behind us Liya entered being as calm as ever without showing any sort of discomfort at the new environment. To me it wasn't as bad as the ash filled air from my old world which I endured for my whole life but it certainly wasn't desirable.
3rd persons P.O.V:
Linda walked in front of the narrow counter considering the rows and rows of shelf's placed all around the room full of different kinds of vial filled with all sorts of potions. After observing a little longer Ryne understood that they were currently in a potion shop. After waiting for a few seconds she rang the bell which was placed upon the counter table as she asked, "Hello. Is anyone here?".
It was quite some time until the sounds of someones footsteps were heard and a loud shout of 'coming' from inside. From the door at the far corner of the room came out an aged woman of short stature and plump cheeks just like a dwarf's. Her face was full of wrinkles and had shoulder length white hair which indicates her passing age. She wore a white shirt and a brown apron over it. The apron had two holsters for test tubes which was full of colorful liquids. She also had green cloth wrapped around her head in a bandana. It could be seen that the clothes she was wearing were quite dirty from the work she does.
This was Lizzie Bareare, a famous Herbalist/Potion Maker/pharmacist who operates in E-Rantel. She is renowned throughout the city of E-Rantel and holds the title as the city's best pharmacist. Though a seemingly old woman, she is still quite sharp for her age. Highly knowledgeable about the makeup, properties, and lore of potions. She also has a demanding and fastidious personality. Her intense gaze gives other people the shivers. As she made her way towards us she greeted us, "Welcome to the Bareare's shop. What can I do for you miss?".
While she spoke Ryne's eyes darted towards the white bundle of blanket she was holding. On a closer inspection it was a blonde boy a few months younger than Ryne himself. Both the child and the old lady shares the same shade of blue eyes.
Linda smiled a little as she saw the blond infant in the hands of the old women as she answered, "Good afternoon. My name is Linda Brinewood. My husband has send the payment he owes to you for the items he purchased. Because of his busy schedul I'm here to cover for him".
There was a brief flash of recognition on the herbalist's face. "Your Jake's wife aren't you? I must say he has got quite the catch. And that must be your son, the brat (Jake) never stops once he starts talking about his kid. He's quite the cutie too", the old woman said with a laugh.
Giving the potion maker a good view of Ryne Linda spoke, "Yes this is my son Ryne. I had some shopping to do so I thought of going on a walk with my son. Jake also spoke much about you too that you were a former colleague of his late teacher".
At that a sad smile appeared on the old ladies face as she said, "Ahh yeah, in those days the brat would always pester Theo to teach him a new spell. The bastard died too early than he suppose to".
At this a regretful expression showed on Linda's face, "Please forgive me if I brought any bad memories up". She looked at the small infant again and smiled as she asked,"Who is this cute boy in your arms if I may ask?"
Lizzie just shook her head and sighed softly, "It's not your fault, you didn't know. and for this bundle of joy". She looked at the boy and smiled cheekily as the boy stared back with his bright blue orbs. "This is my new born grandson Nfirea. He was born a week ago and will return to Carne village once my daughter-in-law recovers from childbirth. So is that all or would you like to purchase something too? I might give you a good discount too".
Linda thought for a while before she answered,"Hmmm we also ran out of healing potions and medicine too. I would like two vials of healing potion and some medicine for the occasional fever or cold".
The herbalist's calculated in her mind for a second before she spoke, "Normally I would charge somewhere around 2 gold and 25 silver pieces. But for you I'll down it to 2 gold and 10 silver pieces".
"Yes that would be a fair price enough", Linda said as Lizzie went to collect the potions from the back shelf. Once she gathered the potions and medicine she handed them to Liya who placed those inside her basket.
Before Linda could hand over the money Nfirea started wailing loudly. Lizzie started looking over her grandson and found the reason for his discomfort as she said,"Ohh it looks like your clothes are ruined from peeing. Don't worry granny will change your clothes right away". Lizzie started soothing the child as his crys die down to sniffles.
As this was happening Ryne gave Nfirea a look of understanding and sadness. A strange sense of comradeship builts in his heart for Nfirea at the hardships and shame they both have to endure as toddlers. They don't have the type of control over their body like the adults do. So *ahem* shit happens. It's more shameful to Ryne who is a grown man in a child's body. Ryne gave Nfirea another sympathetic look and thought, 'I know how you feel my friend, I really do. Just stay strong, we shall one day get rid of this curse call 'infancy' together'.
So once all the items were gathered and delivered we said our goodbyes and left the pharmacy/potion shop, and headed back home. The walk home was the same as before besides the occasional adventurers walking by us. Most of them were equipped with different armors/cloaks and various items. Once we reached home Liya went to put the items at their suitable places and manage the household.
Linda took Ryne back to their room and start feeding him happily. But Ryne was still awkward at being fed by her. Once he was full he released a short but loud burp which in turn made Linda chuckle.
After that once he was alone again, he went into deep contemplation for what his next step should be. With a critical eye he started examining the now known as 'status screen'. As he concentrated the screen once again opened up with the information intoned like before.

As the information on status screen showed his status and levels Ryne understood what it actually meant. For him it was like he was playing a mutual account. His current life aka character Ryne and his YGGDRASIL player account aka character Momonga are somehow connected with each other. So as he gatheres more experience and levels up, which in turn will help him getting access to his YGGDRASIL levels and abilities.
This for all things and purposes wasn't the best news. The best news for him was to see his inventory unlocked. He never felt so much joy for being the hoarder that he was. For those who knows Momonga the undead magic caster of Ainz Ooal Gown knows about his infamous habit of hoarding items for all and every kind. Such as cash shop items, gacha items, magical gears, potions, rare artifacts, Weapons, dresses, food, dishes etcetera. Any rare items you name it, and he has it. A normal inventory can hold upto 3000+ items, but since he brought the premium expansion package last year it went up to 4000+ items.
'The expansion pack was very expensive and so I had to push back on a lot of food just to save up the money (TT) …but it was worth every penny', Ryne thought as he searched for any guideline or info in the status screen. But he came out empty.
Once he was done with that, he started the next experiment on the list which was to see if he could access his inventory now. As he pushed his hand forward with the intention of accessing his inventory, a rift in the air of the size of a small fist opened up. the rift had a dark shade to itself like the void of endless darkness.
As his hand went inside his inventory, he found out that he could mentally rummage through its items. As he pulled his hand out, he looked mesmerized at the item he was holding. The item he was looking at was a golden magical ring which had finely crafted details on it, and on its top was a priceless ruby red stone. On the ruby red stone was the insignia of Ainz Ooal Gown in a golden texture.
On a glance the ring looked quite expensive but in truth it was far more than a mere ring. This was one of the fifty rings of Ainz Ooal Gown which granted the guild members access to the whole great tomb of Nazarick. But for Ryne or rather Momonga this was yet another priceless memory of his friends and guild mates. He started reminiscing of the golden days of YGGDRASIL about how he used to spend his time with his friends doing quests and whatnot. 'Time really doesn't stop for anyone', as his trip through his memory lane came to an end. He gave the ring one last longing look and put it back inside his inventory where it belonged.
'Now for the most unexpected but not unwanted surprise', Ryne thought as he narrowed his eyes and scrutinized the status which was showing and not showing at the same time. It was the status of 'Talent' which had him thinking so hard. In retrospect since both his parents were talent holder of their own, he also had a very high chance of also having a talent. 'Well I did expected it a little. But the problem is how do I know what talent I have or how to use it. Do I need a certain level or experience to access it or not?', the thoughts went around his head as he contemplated.
"*Sigh*... Well it doesn't matter now. I can cross that bridge once I reach it, for now what I need to do is grow strong both mentally and physically as soon as possible", he took a deep breath as he said to himself. With he started his mission of getting stronger by... crawling and trying and failing to walk. Yay.
Scene change : E-rental Magician's guild :
In the brightly lit office room of the guild master of the magicians guild, piles upon piles of documents could be seen placed upon a brown oak wood table. Infront of the table on an equally exquisite wooden chair sat the guild master of the magicians guild Jake Brinewood. He was currently going through the monstrous amount of paperwork of the guilds monthly production and sales of different magical items for the last three hours like there's no tomorrow.
As he had finally went through one pile another larger pile reared its head from behind. Both his face and eyebrow twitched at that as the increased force broke the writing quill he was holding. Disposing the broken quill Jake sighed loudly and leaned on the chair as he thought, 'I knew piling this up will come to bite me in the back soon'. Even though his 'nightly ventures' were few and far between he didn't thought that the papers would pile up this much. As he was the guild master, no important documents would be sent to the central guild without the inspection of the guild master. 'One of the cons of being the guild master I guess', he thought as he stretched a little and exited his office through the door.
As he came down to the reception hall a voice halted him from behind in a sickly sweet tone. "Sir, are you finished with the paperwork? If so we do need you expertise on other matters.", the voice belonged to a lady in immaculate blue robes with white engraving which indicates her high rank. Her dark brown hair in a short pixie cut, brown eyes and heart shaped face gave her a soft but stern look. On the bridge of her nose sat an oval shaped glasses which just sharpened her looks and made her look more stern. A fake but refined smile was plasted on her face. This was Kayla Madison . The operative manager of the guild. In other words she was the highest ranking mage after Jake himself. She is a highly dedicated third tier water elementalist.
Jake slowly turned to face her. The smile on his face strained a little but he kept his posture firm as he replied in an even tone, "Umm...No I still have a few papers to review over but since I remembered a few important errands I have to do I'm taking some time off. Once I'm done I'll finish the rest".
The woman infront of him surely didn't believed him the slightest but she still kept the facade going. After a minute of staring down the man Infront of her she turned away from him and made her way to her office while ominously saying, "I sure do hope you do sir. I sure do hope you do."
Once the woman was out of his sight he wiped the sweat dripping down his brow and bolted through the main entrance of the guild.
'That was close', he thought and took a narrow turn to the main street. Once he got to the main street he slowed his pace and started walking in the packed street full of people. Since it was still high noon the crowd around him was much thicker than usual. Being as inconspicuous as possible he started walking through random roads and alleyways, all the while keeping a stoic face. After walking for fifteen minutes through winding pathways he stopped infront of a shabby tavern. Entering inside he went to the farthest corner of the room and took a seat. When the waitress came he only ordered for a beer and waited.
A few moments later a hooded cloak figure entered the tavern. He went straight to the counter and ordered his drink. After a while he took his remaining drink and sat on a empty chair which was right behind Jake.
Jake scanned the entire room and it's occupants with a critical eye, and casted a [Silence] spell without anyone noticing. It's a second tier utility spell, which could keep any sound from getting in or out upto three diameter from the caster.
"How have you been?", the hooded figure asked once he noticed the casted spell.
"As good as I'll ever be old man, how was it?".
The cloaked figure chuckled and leaned his back to the chair. He took a quick swig from his mug and replied, "It didn't go as well as we thought it would, at best it was an annoyance to them". The figure sighed deeply and if one looked close enough, one could see the wrinkles maring the aged face of the figure.
Jake frowned a little and asked once again in a firmer tone, "Fred, tell me what exactly happened?".
The cloaked figure now identified as Fred sighed once again and replied, "Marquis Raven kept his part of the deal and presented the evidence against the eight fingers in the royal court. The king immediately decreed to eradicate the organization to its last bone but the pressure form the other Marquis'es of the royal faction kept that from fully happening. Once the movement stopped Marquis Raven kept a neutral stance, since he didn't have much to gain now. I'm suspecting him to put spies on me to get to you." He took a long breath after spilling everything out.
Jake gave a solemn nod as his face darkened. It was unsaid that since Fred is the one who mediate things for the shadow mage, keeping an eye on him would be enough to get to Jake. If the marquis or anyone with unsavoury intentions found out who the shadow mage really is the life of Jake's family might fall into danger. "There's more isn't there? If there weren't you wouldn't be so slouchy", he asked trying to lighten the mood.
Fred chuckled once again and shook his head and replied, "Even though the bastards lost dozens of their warehouse full of resources and hundreds of men, they are still adamant on doing what they were doing. But… now they know that there's a line. A line that if crossed would end in their doom. That's the only consolation for what we accomplished".
"One day we will bring them down, no matter what", Jake said directly looking at Fred.
Freds lips quirked up and replied looking away, "One day for sure kid". Before Jake could get up and go on his way Fred said in a serious tone, "The spy I put inside eight fingers reported to me that the upper leaders of the organization are shaken by the stunt we pulled. They are looking for you, either to recruit you or to finish you. You should lay low and not garner further attention".
As Jake got up and dispelled his spell he gave Fred an arrogant smile as he said, "Let them try to find me, and if they do… then it would be their last". With that Jake left the tavern.
Fred just shook his head again and smiled to himself mumbling, "Stay safe kid, you still have a lot to do". With that he also exited from the tavern.
Author's Note: Well it's finally finished. We can actually move on to the next part of the story. And sorry for the late delay, I will definitely try to update the next chapter soon… maybe.
And so the story starts, Ryne/Suzuki S. got his status unlocked and the Eight Fingers are on edge for unknown dangers. It's time to power level Ryne and start the next arc.
I also might upload a new fanfiction of a crossover between Naruto and Rising Of The Shield Hero named 'Rising Of The Last Uchiha' so keep an eye open for that.
Till then stay safe.
