Chapter 03: The Adventure Begins
Humming could be heard as a Green Colosi was hammering away on a wooden idol, wearing a pair of overalls and a blue jacket.
His name was Sam and he was hard at work as he carefully chipped at the idol, sculpting it to look as they planned.
The idols they were making were going to be used for a party that they planned to have that night where they would go all out, having fire dancers, hula girls and a buffet.
Just about everything to make it a night to remember.
It has been a plan in the making for weeks.
As such the wooden idols had to be perfect.
While they weren't made to be attractive in any way possible, he couldn't help but be proud of his work that would be placed on the stages during the dances that would take place.
Of how lifelike and terrifying it looked.
As if it could come alive at any moment.
Suddenly it seemed as if the idol twitched.
Sam blinked in confusion, watching the Idol before thinking he imagined it.
Turning to grab his hammer to continue, Sam heard a crackling movement and slowly looked over his shoulder to see the Idol he just made come alive before snarling at him.
Eyes widening in terror, Sam took off with a scream while the Idol grabbed a nearby tool as a makeshift weapon and gave chase.
While that happened, another Green Colosi who was named Tim saw this and while he was concerned at first, he paused as an idea came to him.
With an excited grin, he turned to a stack of wood and immediately began to work on it with fervor.
Eventually he had sculpted a beautiful hula girl with a sultry pose and he waited for it to come alive.
Shaking with excitement, he kissed it only for the sculpture to fall over, inanimate, breaking his heart.
Sam, who barely survived with bruises and tears on his clothes, saw what was going on and looked on in disbelief, the urge to strangle Tim rising.
"Man, this place is beautiful." Jacob mused as he walked through the first world hub of Avalar.
It was like one of those nature parks one would see on TV.
Heck the water was so clear compared to home, Jacob couldn't help but stare at it, remembering how filthy the water could be due to some trash being thrown in.
Here it was clean and crystal clear.
Then there was the castle that could be seen in the distance.
It was amazing.
Though it was where Ripto was currently staying and he needed to get the Talisman from the other worlds.
"Still, it shouldn't be too hard, I already have one." Jacob told himself, leaving to try and find another portal.
After all he wanted to get this done and get home before his parents could return, though he doesn't see how he could get fourteen talismans in one day.
If anything it almost took a whole day getting one.
Maybe he can ask for some help to explain to his parents because there's no way they would believe he ended up in another world.
If they saw Elora and Hunter then they would definitely believe him.
Though he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it.
"Baa!" Jacob looked to his left to see a herd of sheep running by with them tackling one another, rolling in the grass and he couldn't help but smile.
That was adorable.
Pulling out the Guidebook once more, Jacob flipped through it to see what worlds he could get to in Summer Forest.
Besides Glimmer, the others were Colossus, Idol Springs, Hurricos, Sunny Beach, Aquaria Towers and Ocean Speedway, the last one being a racetrack if he was reading this correctly.
He'll look into each of them in detail to know what to expect, but for now he was reading more about the hub world of Summer Forest.
True to its name, this place was in a perpetual state of Summer which was pretty cool in his opinion.
Apparently it was a place that always had visitors from the other worlds to enjoy themselves on either vacation or in the Sunny Beach world.
They also go to Ocean Speedway to either participate in the races or to bet money on the competitors or head to Colossus for hockey games.
"These worlds sound perfect." Jacob mused aloud.
He wasn't expecting for someone to answer him though.
"I wouldn't go that far." Jacob jumped and turned to see Elora standing near the entrance to some castle ruins. "They're nice most of the time, but they have their own problems like everywhere else."
"Well compared to home it sounds perfect." Jacob returned, trying not to show that he got scared.
If Elora's amused expression was anything to go by, it didn't work.
"So any suggestions on which world to go to first?" Jacob closed the Guidebook to put up.
"Well I would leave the Ocean Speedway one alone, there's no talisman there." Elora recommended, with Jacob filing that away. "The closest ones are Idol Springs and Colossus, so perhaps one of them."
"Idol Springs or Colossus." Jacob repeated with a nod. "That narrows it down a bit, thanks."
Once he gets the Talismans there, he'll look into where the others are.
Entering the ruins, Jacob stared at seeing a stone bridge destroyed. "What the heck happened here?"
"Ripto." Elora sounded annoyed at saying the name, rolling her eyes as she remembered the day that happened. "The first thing he did on getting to Summer Forest was destroy the bridge here, it's more of a nuisance than anything."
Not like they can't jump across.
Though she'll admit it was a bit more dangerous given how the fall could hurt someone.
"Normally the Colosi from Idol Springs would be able to fix it, but given how Ripto invaded each realm with his monsters they haven't been able to get to it."
"I see." Jacob frowned in thought.
That just made the decision easier.
Idol Springs will be his next stop.
After all, Glimmer is working to get the economy back in Avalar, so the next step should be to get the people who work construction to do repairs.
"Come on." Elora ran and easily jumped across the gap, looking back when she landed. "It's not that far of a jump, so if you get a running start you'll easily make it."
Giving a nod, Jacob backed up before he ran to jump.
He almost made it.
Instead he landed right on the ledge where his foot slipped and he began to fall back, arms flailing, Elora's eyes widening when she saw that.
Thankfully, Elora grabbed his arm before he could fall and pulled him forward.
"Thanks." Jacob muttered, relieved that he didn't fall.
"Are you alright?" Elora asked, not expecting that to happen.
She honestly thought he could make it.
"More embarrassed then anything." Jacob joked with a grin to hide the panic he felt at the near fall. "So which way is Idol Springs?"
The sooner that bridge is fixed the better.
"It's actually right at the exit of the ruins here." Elora pointed towards where it would be. "You can't miss it."
"Noted, I'll be right back with the Talisman." Jacob promised, heading for the portal.
Elora watched him go, her ear twitching.
After what happened she couldn't help but be a little worried.
Maybe she could ask Zoe to check in on him every now and then in the other worlds?
"So that's the portal?" Jacob muttered, seeing the way into Idol Springs. "Wow, Elora was right, it is impossible to miss."
And he assumed the one across the water at the lake in front of the nearby castle was the Portal to Colossus.
At least it seemed to be impossible to get lost in Summer Forest.
Moving to head in, Jacob paused at seeing Hunter nearby stretching.
Tilting his head, Jacob turned and began to approach him in a curious manner, walking up some marble steps.
"It's Hunter, right?"
His question surprised Hunter, the bipedal cheetah was too into his stretches to even hear him coming, but he recovered correctly. "Oh it's you." He glanced at Jacob. "Shouldn't you be getting the Talisman's?"
There was a bit of a bite in his tone when he said that and he saw Jacob's surprised expression, making him feel a little bad.
Hunter was just annoyed at how Elora basically said he couldn't be trusted in helping out with Ripto, he didn't mean to take it out on the kid.
But the expression changed as Jacob crossed his arms. "Shouldn't you be getting your running shoes?" He asked, making a point at looking at Hunter's feet showing that he didn't.
"I know where they are, I just haven't gotten them yet." Hunter deflected that, getting back to stretching. "I'm just getting ready for my daily training, you don't get to be as agile as me by sitting around."
"Oh really?" Jacob asked with a smirk.
That actually hurt a bit of Hunter's pride. "What, don't believe me?"
With that said, Hunter took off running, easily bounding up the rest of the steps and jumping to a nearby platform, turning back towards Jacob.
"Think you can make this?"
Jacob blinked, tilting his head.
It was definitely farther then the bridge and considering earlier he might get himself hurt.
But he wasn't one to back down from a challenge.
So he followed after, barely making it to the platform with Hunter who looked a bit surprised.
The kid was small, so he wasn't expecting for him to make that jump, even if it was a close one.
"Not bad, how about this one?" Hunter took another running start, making a bigger jump to another platform, bounding up the stairs.
Jacob was now a little worried because this one was farther then the last one.
Then he paused to think about something.
In all honesty, he shouldn't have made this jump either.
He wasn't in any means an athlete, so that jump shouldn't have been possible either, yet here he was.
"Hey are you coming or what?" Hunter called out, snapping Jacob out of his thoughts. "Or are you chicken?"
There was a bit of a teasing tone that made Jacob frown before he took a running start.
Surprisingly he jumped farther then he should've, almost overshooting past the platform as he skidded on it, trying to stop.
Hunter gave him a very surprised look while Jacob tried to catch his balance before the boy looked at his hands in obvious confusion.
How did he do that?
He's never done anything like that before.
"Very good," Hunter grinned with some excitement, thinking that he might get some competition now. "Now for the hardest leap of all."
With that said, he took another running start, this time leaping as far as he could go, easily clearing the distance to land on the final tower.
Swishing his tail, he turned back to Jacob who this time looked very uncertain as he looked down.
It was a big fall and while there was some water below, it wasn't that deep.
So he smiled and held up his hands. "I know when I'm beat."
Hunter won't lie, he was a little disappointed, but he gave a nod.
Moving to go back, Hunter looked down and saw an Orb embedded in the floor of the tower he was on.
How has he not seen this?
Bending down to pick it up, he ran back to Jacob, easily making the jump before tossing him the orb. "Here, you might've lost but you did better than I thought you would."
"In all honesty, I didn't think I would make it this far either." Jacob shrugged, accepting the orb with a smile. "I didn't expect to make that last jump."
"Then why didn't you try this one?" Hunter asked in surprise.
Given how he cleared the steps earlier, Jacob could've easily made that jump now that he thought about it, so why did he give up?
"I don't know how I did that and well… I fell from a smaller height and broke an arm as a kid, so this fall could probably kill me."
Hunter's eyes widened, not knowing that and some guilt settled in.
If he knew that, he wouldn't have challenged him like that.
"Still, kind of weird that an Orb was there." Jacob mused, not understanding why that was. "Wonder why."
Hunter shrugged before grinning. "Perhaps it's because Ripto wouldn't be able to get there." He suggested earning a snort of laughter from Jacob as he imagined the tiny Ripto trying to get up there.
"That makes too much sense and I doubt Crush could fly with those tiny wings and with Gulp being-... Whatever he is, neither can they."
Though now he was starting to question what type of creature Gulp really was.
Hunter gave a nod of agreement, watching as Jacob placed the Orb in his pouch, counting up to four of them.
He was really building up quite a collection.
Closing his pouch, Jacob looked across the lake to see the castle where he knew Ripto was currently hiding out in.
"So the other worlds are in there?" He asked, gesturing towards it.
Hunter gave a nod. "Yea, you can enter through the underwater tunnel, it's the only way in now given how Ripto locked the normal way in up rather tightly."
Jacob went still.
"Underwater? Um… How far is the underwater tunnel?"
"About eight minutes, why?"
Nothing was said as Jacob comprehended that before sighing. "I wouldn't even make it a third of the way before I drown."
"Ah." Hunter crossed his arms in thought. "That is quite a problem."
Especially when Aquarius Tower is basically an entire world underwater.
Not to mention how most of Sunny Beach you need to go underwater to navigate it.
If Jacob was to go to them to get the Talismans, he needed a way to breathe underwater.
Shaking his head, Hunter clasped a paw on Jacob's shoulder. "I'll look into finding a way to help out with that while you focus on the other two." He promised with a grin.
He should have an extra diving suit somewhere.
Jacob gave Hunter a surprised look before smiling in appreciation.
That sounds like a good idea.
Especially because he should just focus on the two worlds he can get to before he even thinks about trying to get in there.
Jacob took a deep breath as he stood in front of Idol Springs, shifting from one foot to the other.
He had next to no idea on what to expect here.
Sure Glimmer was very interesting and had a beautiful environment, but it was pretty dangerous, especially with the giant lizards with mallets.
There could be something even more dangerous here or in any of the other worlds.
But he steeled his nerves and stepped through, allowing himself to be transported to Idol Springs.
He wasn't a coward.
Besides, his excitement at seeing another world easily drowned out any other feelings of nervousness that would hold him back.
Still, at least he was getting used to the sensation of going between the worlds and before long he landed easily in Idol Springs.
Just like Glimmer, this place had a beautiful environment and he couldn't help but compare it to pictures he's seen of Hawaii with how the place looked.
Clear water where he could see the bottom, gems were down there as Jacob began to wonder how to get to them, torches that one would see at a Luau, wooden idols chasing green creatures-.
Wait what?
Focusing, Jacob saw the wooden idols, wielding a stick with a giant flaming marshmallow on it as the Colosi were taking cover.
There was one Colosi who was off in the distance, looking over rolls of paper as if trying to make a plan, so Jacob rushed over to him.
Foreman Bob looked very stressed out as he was trying to do some damage control.
This world has been like this for the last few days with them losing a bit of ground each day until they were literally on their last legs with most of their tools and food stolen.
If this keeps up, they'll be forced to abandon their home and try to take refuge in Summer Forest.
But Bob knew that it wouldn't stop here.
After all, the Idols might chase them there, so he was trying to come up with a last ditch plan to end this once and for all.
Hearing footsteps, Bob tensed, thinking that one of the Idols found him and he spun around, holding a hammer to defend himself only to blink when he saw Jacob.
"A kid?" Bob asked, unsure of how to take this.
What was he doing here?
Shaking that question off, Bob got straight to the point. "It's dangerous for you to be here, you need to leave." He said, not wanting to have the death of a kid on his conscience.
With everything else going on, that was the last thing he needed.
A roar however scared Bob as he turned to see an Idol managed to sneak up on him and was about to stab him with a giant skewer before Jacob intervened and slammed his pickaxe into the Idol, taking it down in one hit as whatever was controlling it was expelled from its body, leaving a hollow, empty shell.
Seeing the Idol go down, Jacob grinned at the astonished look Bob seemed to give. "Hi, my name's Jacob and I'm here to save your world." He introduced himself with much more confidence than he did in Glimmer.
"I uh… Okay?" Bob sounded so confused by what he just witnessed.
A part of him still wanted to send the kid off because this was a dangerous situation, but the other part knew that he was desperate.
And if this kid could help, why not let him?
"Kid, are you sure about this?" Bob asked him, looking towards where the other Idols were.
In response, Jacob just grinned, leaving for Bob to sigh.
"I hope I don't regret this," He muttered before getting to the point. "The situation is getting worse by the minute, these Idols have our tools that we need to get further and they stole our food, my men are hungry and afraid, if you can get us our tools back we'll be able to get our homes back."
"Got it." Jacob said, giving a nod as he looked over the situation.
There weren't really that many idols in the area but there were even less Colosi who were injured and tired.
It was no wonder that they were losing.
So without a further thought, Jacob rushed into the fray, slamming the pickaxe into one of the Idol's only for it to break, thankfully after dispelling whatever was possessing it as it fell over.
"I really need to find a weapon to use that'll last." Jacob muttered in annoyance before ducking as one of the Idols tried to skewer him.
Before the idol could right himself, Jacob used the broken end of the pickaxe in his hand to jam it in the Idol's face, watching as it became lifeless.
So like the lizards, these things only take one hit?
Wow, either Ripto is extremely cocky that nothing can beat him or he went with quantity over quality.
Most likely both.
Still, it made his job easier even without a weapon, he grabbed one of the skewers that fell and used it to take care of another Idol.
Once they were gone, Jacob dropped the skewer and watched as the Colosi who were being chased collapsed from a mixture of exhaustion and hunger, happy to be able to rest even if they knew it wouldn't last.
Bob on the other hand quickly got to work as he grabbed a torch and began burning the bodies much to Jacob's confusion.
Seeing the look, the Colosi began to explain. "Just hitting them isn't enough, they'll just be possessed again in a few moments," He told the human kid. "Not even burning them is enough, but it'll buy us more time until we can take out the main Idol."
"I'm guessing the main Idol is deeper inside?" Jacob asked, earning a nod.
"You can't miss it, it's purple and carries an Umbrella, it even kidnapped the Hula Girls." Bob sighed, looking exhausted. "Even when we beat the normal ones, this one is on a whole nother level, nothing we tried would work on it."
Jacob hummed in thought, making a mental note about this before he saw one of the Colosi opening the nearby door to allow Jacob to continue onward. "Will you guys be alright?"
"Once we catch our breath, thankfully we know where the Idols placed our tools, we just need to get to them." Bob looked towards the water as he said that. "There's a tunnel underwater that leads to a cave, once we get our tools, we'll catch up."
"Wow." Jacob whispered, making it to a nearby cave that tunnels through a mountain as there were glowing mushrooms all around that lit it up, some of them under tree roots to give off a unique look.
It was so different from the cave system in Glimmer, smaller too thankfully but Jacob couldn't help but marvel at the environment.
He was so caught up in watching the environment that he was almost skewered by one of the smaller idols who held a silver metal plate as a shield.
Caught off guard, Jacob kicked without thinking and was surprised that it was enough to take it down as it fell.
Huh, so he didn't need a weapon to take these enemies out?
That'll make things a bit easier.
"Nice one." The familiar voice caught Jacob off guard as he looked to the side to see Zoe sitting on one of the mushrooms. "Though you should probably not be too distracted."
"Can you blame me? These worlds are amazing." Jacob grinned her way before tilting his head. "What are you doing here anyways?"
"Just making sure you're doing alright, don't worry I'm not staying." Zoe answered, standing up as she wiped the dirt off her dress before she flew up to him with a playful grin.
Jacob knew what was coming and barely had time to brace himself when she zapped him again. "Really?!"
Zoe giggled at how he was acting. "Like I said, it's for luck," She said, clasping her hands behind her back. "That and your reactions are funny."
Hearing that, Jacob rolled his eyes before he continued onward with Zoe flying behind him. "Any chance you know where the purple Tiki Idol is?"
"He's not that far, just over the mountain in a nearby valley." Zoe answered with a look of distaste. "He has several of the Hula Girls chained up for some reason."
"... Why?" Jacob couldn't help but ask, not thinking of why anyone would do that.
"I would say he's into that, but given how it's an inanimate object given life, I don't know."
The phrasing just confused Jacob, something that Zoe noticed as she coughed. "Don't worry about it." She said, not wanting to explain this to a twelve year old.
She didn't think of his age when she made the comment.
"Okay?"
"Ow." Jacob was rubbing his fist after attempting to punch one of the bigger Idols as he was making his way towards where the purple one was.
It worked just like kicking them did, but punching wood like that was a pain.
He needed to get something to protect his hands if he was going to be punching the enemies.
Maybe he can ask Elora or Hunter if there was anything he could use to make things easier?
The sun was starting to set too with his first day in Avalar almost over.
Which begged a new question.
Where was he going to sleep?
He was clearly not going to finish gathering everything in one day and there was no way he was going into one of the worlds at night unless he knew what was waiting for him or he had no choice.
So he needed a place to sleep.
… And something to eat, all he had were the eggs his Dad made for him that morning.
As if on cue, his stomach growled with Jacob grabbing it with an annoyed expression.
He was even tempted to eat some of the food that the Idols were using as weapons, but refrained from doing so because he had no idea what was on them.
That and the Colosi were far worse off with hunger than he was and it would be cruel to take some of their food.
Eventually he made it to the entrance of the valley where he could see the Hula Girls chained to small platforms, forced to dance endlessly while the main purple idol was watching, sending a ball of light into the air every few seconds, most likely to replenish the fallen Tiki Idols.
'Okay, Bob said that this thing can take more than one hit and it looks tougher than the other ones.' Jacob crouched behind the hill as he tried to come up with a plan. 'So I can't just run in there… Wait, is that a power up?'
Right near the entrance was what looked to be the same type of arch that was in Glimmer.
Perhaps that could help out?
Was it for flight or something else?
The Guidebook said that there were a ton of different power ups that were scattered throughout Avalar and Jacob didn't know what this one was.
Needing a closer look, Jacob began to move and slowly slid down the hill, ensuring that he stayed out of the Idol's line of sight.
One of the Hula Girl's actually saw him and shook her head, as if telling him to leave before Jacob hid right as the Idol turned to see what she was looking at.
On seeing nothing, the Idol shrugged and went back to watching the Hula Girls.
Waiting a little bit, Jacob came out of his hiding spot behind the rock only to see that another Hula Girl was chained to the rock he was at.
So he got to work in getting her attention. "Psst!"
Her head snapped to the side in surprise. "What are you doing here kid?!" She whispered, trying not to draw attention. "If that Idol see's you, it'll attack."
"I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, how do I free you and the others?" Jacob asked, keeping an eye on the idol.
Struggling against the chains a bit, the hula girl sighed. "The Power Up over there is for a supercharge." She said with Jacob raising a brow. "It'll increase your speed and reflexes for a short time, use it to smash the pedestals."
"You want me to run into the pedestals?" Jacob asked in disbelief.
"The power up increases your body's strength too, it'll free the girls and we'll be able to handle the Idol." The Hula Girl sounded a bit miffed by the interruption. "We usually use them for small races, just be careful not to run into the girls themselves."
Trying to ignore the disturbing image that was placed in his head, Jacob gave a nod and went to get back to the supercharge.
Of course the Idol turned and saw him before he could make it and roared, jumping a great distance at him.
Eyes widening, Jacob barely rolled out of the way as the Idol was now between him and the supercharge.
Pushing himself to his feet, Jacob ducked as the Idol swiped at him with the umbrella before he tried to punch it only for his arm to be grabbed as he was spun around and tossed further away from the Supercharge.
Rolling in the field as dirt was kicked up, Jacob groaned before his eyes widened as the Idol jumped into the air to try and flatten him.
Barely dodging, Jacob managed to land a punch on the Idol after it landed, grimacing in pain as he shook his wrist.
The Idol was still standing proving Bob's warning right.
In fact it looked at him as if asking 'Really?'
Offering a sheepish grin, Jacob quickly ran to make some space to avoid being hit because he's pretty sure it can kill him in one hit.
The Idol roared and gave chase, doing everything it could to ensure that Jacob stayed away from the supercharge while the kid was doing all he could to not get hit by the monster's umbrella.
That would be an embarrassing way to die if he was being honest.
Shaking the morbid thought from his head, Jacob dodged another hit and kicked the Idol in the face.
Again, no change.
Unless you count the fact that the Idol now looks pretty annoyed by how this was going while Jacob was resisting the urge to hop on one foot due to the pain he was feeling.
"Okay, I can see why the others are one hit if you're around." Jacob muttered to himself, finding this to be pretty difficult.
That and he was getting tired, not used to fighting like this.
Or at all, really.
That along with all the walking he's been doing since he ended up in Avalar and he was pretty much running on fumes.
Ducking another hit, Jacob was caught off guard when something slammed into the Idol, exploding on impact.
The force of it was enough to send the idol skidding back, a look of surprise on its face.
"Quick, light another one!" Turning towards the voice, Jacob saw Bob with the rest of the Colosi, setting rockets on the ground, aimed at the idol before lighting them. "Keep that idol busy!"
Bob then turned his attention to Jacob.
"Kid, get to the supercharge!"
Giving a nod, Jacob took off towards it as the Idol roared out a challenge and went to give chase only for a few more rockets to hit it.
'How tough is that thing?!' Jacob couldn't help but think, finding it a bit frightening that it was shrugging off rockets like it was nothing.
Making it to the supercharge, Jacob wasted no time in going through it only for his body to start running at a high speed with him barely being able to process how fast he was going.
How do you steer this?!
Trying to turn was a pain as well, but Jacob remembered Whisker's advice when he used the flying power-up.
Don't think, just go with it.
Taking a deep breath, Jacob found he had an easier time doing it this way, though he grimaced as he ran through one of the platforms.
Even though he was told that it wouldn't hurt, it still surprised him, but Jacob focused and before long he managed to get to the rest of the platforms, freeing the Hula Girls who began to surround the Idol, dancing.
Skidding to a stop now that they were free, Jacob raised a brow, wondering what they were doing before his eyes widened when a storm cloud appeared above the idol and lightning shot down, obliterating the Idol.
D-Did that just happen?
A massive wave of energy seemed to erupt from the Idol as it died, most likely causing the rest of the Idols to be lifeless once more as cheers erupted from the Colosi who were just relieved that this nightmare was finally over.
"Nice work kid," One of the Colosi, Max said with a grin at Jacob while the Colosi were just relaxing for now, deciding to do the clean-up the next day. "We owe you big time."
Jacob rubbed the back of his head, a little embarrassed by the praise but he smiled. "It's no problem, you guys helped a lot with the rockets."
Seriously, if they didn't he might not have made it to the supercharge.
"We wouldn't have been able to do that if you didn't keep the Idols busy long enough for us to get our tools back." Max shook his head with a wry chuckle. "If you ever need a job in the future, you have a place here."
"Good to know," Jacob shifted a bit with some uncertainty. "But I do have one request."
Max raised a brow at how Jacob was now acting. "Name it."
"I need your talisman." Jacob decided to be blunt with Max's eyes widening at the request. "I know it's asking a lot, but I need to gather all fourteen so we can take care of Ripto, he's the guy that started this mess in your world."
"I see." Max muttered in an uncertain tone. "I mean we owe you, but our Talisman is very sacred."
Still, if it's to take care of Ripto.
"Can you wait here for a few minutes?" Max asked, wanting to talk to the others about this.
It wasn't a decision to make lightly.
Jacob gave a nod.
As Max walked off, Jacob sat down in thought.
Hopefully they would let him take it because he does need it, but if they don't then he doesn't know what he'll do.
He'll have to ask Elora if they don't.
It took longer than a few minutes with Jacob reading the Guidebook to pass the time before Max was back, this time carrying a Jade Green Idol along with a bag.
Comparing that to the pickaxe, Jacob knew this was the Talisman and stood up as Max held it out.
"It took a bit of convincing, but here you go." Max said, handing the Talisman over. "As long as you ensure Ripto pays for what he's done you're free to use our Talisman, but we do want it back at some point."
"That's fair, I promise to hand it back when Ripto is taken care of." Jacob agreed to those terms before Max held out a bag.
"We also found at least three orbs we don't need where they were keeping our tools and some Gems." Max grinned at Jacob's surprised face. "Since you'll be giving the Talisman back, we figured it'd be good to give you a permanent reward for what you've done."
"I-uh thanks." Jacob muttered, not expecting that.
He figured being given the Talisman would be reward enough.
Still that was two down, twelve more to go.
Time to head back to Summer Forest.
To Be Continued…
Man, I really suck at keeping up with this story, don't I? I have no excuses because that was on me. Hopefully you guys do enjoy this chapter because I tried my best to make the worlds of Avalar a little more realistic.
As realistic as you can make it that is.
I do plan to have some of the characters from the worlds interact more in the story so the Colosi will be seen later in the future, basically to make the worlds feel a bit more alive.
And Jacob didn't have to do the puzzle boxes to get their tools back, can't really make that work in a realistic setting, but he did still get the Orbs for doing his part in saving the Idol Springs along with some Gems.
Alright, let's get the reviews done so I can post this long overdue chapter.
RonaldM40196867: Thank you… Even if this thanks is a year too late :P.
Firetrail: Thank you, I'm happy to hear you say that while I'm also pissed that it took me this long to get the third chapter out, I need to do better with that. I hope to get the next one out a lot sooner, now that I'm starting to get some momentum here.
Pyrojack25: Thank you and yes Moneybags did get blindsided, though I wouldn't really call Jacob a teenager, he's only twelve, give or take a few months and he'll fit the moniker of 'teenager with attitude'. I'll have the explanation of him reaching the other levels when I get to the point.
Wiener Blut: Thank you, I was a little worried about this considering I pretty much replaced Spyro with an OC for the Ripto's Rage part, though perhaps it's because I said that Spyro is still a hero doing his own thing that people aren't too torn up about it?
KyuubiMakai009: Thank you, I hope to get the next chapter out a lot sooner than this one.
