True Believers!
(Chapter Twenty-Four)
"You have got to be fucking kidding me?!" Beck yelled in angry frustration, fighting off demons as they closed in on her and the Winchesters.
"Now what?!" Sam asked loudly.
"Hell if I know! Just keep swinging! I ain't interested in dying, again!" Dean called back.
"Yea, not dying again would be good." Sam said.
"Stop your yapping, you two, or that's exactly where the three of us are headed. I am not dealing with getting left behind, again!" Beck growled at them, taking on yet another demon that was coming at her.
"Get to the car!" Dean yelled at Beck and Sam.
"No shit, Sherlock! Beck yelled back.
"Becks, go, go, go!" Sam yelled at his best friend seeing an opening for her to run.
"Gone. Hurry up you two!" Beck called over her shoulder running to the Impala.
Dean and Sam booked it to the car as soon as they got an opening.
Dean hopped in the driver's seat. Sam on the passenger's side. Beck was in the middle of them. All three of them were covered in blood.
Dean gunned it down the road.
Sam and Beck kept constant watch on the road behind them.
"Drive faster, Dean." Sam told his brother.
"I can't!" Dean yelled back.
"Do it anyway!" Beck told him.
Sam grunted in pain.
"Are you okay?" Beck and Dean asked at the same time.
"Yeah, I'm amazing." Sam sarcastically replied.
"You ever see that many?" Dean asked.
"No. No way. Not in one place." Sam told him
"What the hell?" Dean asked worriedly.
"Hell would be where they came from babe." Beck fired off.
Dean swung the car to the left trying to outrun the demons chasing them.
Unfortunately, in from of them was a burning building. Dean stomped on the brakes.
"Shit! Now what?" Beck exclaimed worriedly.
"Damn it!" Dean yelled and threw the car into a K-turn.
Halfway through the maneuver the demons chasing them threw open both the doors of the Impala and started to drag out Dean and Sam. Beck yelled and tried to kick at the demon grabbing Sam.
Suddenly a power spray of holy water hit the demons from behind, while a man with a bullhorn spoke Enochian, and the demons were gone.
"What the heck was that?" Beck shouted confused.
"You folks alright?" the man lowered the bullhorn and asked as the Winchesters and Beck exited the Impala.
The boys looked around stunned, then Dean answered, "Peachy."
"Thank you for the assist." Beck breathlessly thanked their rescuers.
"Your welcome, miss. Be careful. It's…Dangerous around here." the bullhorn guy replied.
"Oh, dear. Dean can we please just go." Beck said softly to Dean grabbing his wrist gently.
"What's up?" Dean asked her.
"I don't want us to get involved with this. Please, let's just thank them and leave." Beck murmured to Dean.
"No need to thank us." the bullhorn guy said walking away to rejoin his friends.
Beck sighed and followed the guys as they went after the men responsible for saving them from a demon attack.
Why did she even bother if they weren't going to listen to her?
Michael expected the impossible from her and it was just getting harder when the guys pulled shit like this.
"No, hold up a sec. Who are you?" Dean asked.
"We're the Sacrament Lutheran Militia." the bullhorn guy replied turning around to answer Dean.
"I'm Beck. The tall one is Sam and Mr. Peachy here is Dean." Beck said joining the men.
"I hate to tell you this, but those were demons, and this is the apocalypse. So…Buckle up." the bullhorn guy told them.
"Thank you but we already knew that." Beck replied.
Dean walked over to the trunk of the Impala, lifted it up, and exposed the secret compartment of hunting tools. The Militia Men looked in and were mildly impressed and surprised.
"Looks like we're in the same line of business." Sam said.
"And among colleagues. Police-issued shotgun. That truck is, uh...inspired. Where did you guys pick up all this crap?" Dean asked.
Beck rolled her eyes.
These men were not in the same line of business or colleagues.
They were ordinary people who were having the wool pulled over their eyes by a big bad.
Though she had to admit that the pick-up truck with a tank of holy water on the back and a spray nozzle attached was inventive.
"You know...You pick up things along the way." the short black-haired man in the heavy coat told Dean.
Beck chuckled softly and then said, "Along the way. No, I don't think so. I get it we're strangers and you're not sure if you can trust us. Is that about right?"
"Guys were on the same team here. We just want to help." Sam told them.
The three men looked at each other and then the bullhorn guy said, "Follow us."
Knowing that the guys were prepared to do just that, Beck tried to decide if she was getting back in the Impala with them or risking running into more demons by hitching and pissing off Ellen.
"Babe, ya comin'"? Dean asked noticing that Beck had not moved to follow either himself or Sam back to the Impala.
"I'm thinking." Beck replied without moving.
"What's up, Becks?" Sam asked walking back over to her.
Beck turned and leaned her head against Sam's chest. Sam frowned slightly but put his arms around her. It was clear that his best friend was upset about something, unfortunately, he had no way of knowing if she would tell him or not.
"We are about to walk into a giant mess, if we follow them, Sam." Beck told him softly.
"Anything we can't handle?" Sam asked.
Beck laughed against Sam's chest and replied, "Has that ever stopped any of us?"
Sam laughed and shook his head, pulling Beck away from his chest to look at her face.
"I'm scared, Sam." Beck told him honestly looking into his eyes.
"Why?" Sam asked softly.
"We are so close to the 11th hour and I don't want to lose either of you to Michael or Lucifer. This (waving her hand around at the surrounding area) is pushing you both that much closer to accepting them." Beck told him.
"Dean is not going to become Michael's vessel and I am not going to become Lucifer's." Sam told her.
"You say that now, but remember in my reality it already happened." Beck reminded him.
"Becky.." Dean started to say coming toward them.
"Forget it, Dean. I don't want to hear it, just get in the car." Beck interrupted him.
Beck moved past Sam to the Impala and climbed in through the open car door into the backseat. At that moment she did not feel like sitting next to either of the Winchesters.
Why had Sam bothered to ask if he was just going to do whatever he and Dean wanted to anyhow?
The three men with the pickup truck had patiently waited for their guests in their own vehicle. Once they saw that the Winchesters and their female companion were ready they rolled out. The Impala regardless of the irritated female passenger's misgivings followed.
The Impala pulled up to the front of a church. The Winchesters and Beck exited the Impala and followed their hosts inside. Beck noted the Devil's Trap spray painted between the asphalt and the sidewalk.
Upon entering the church, standing at the back, Sam, Dean, and Beck noticed that there was a wedding taking place. Beck and Sam noted that all the men on the outside of the right pews all had shotguns.
"A wedding? Seriously?" Sam scoffed.
Beck turned her head and glared daggers at her best friend.
"Yeah, we've had eight this week." the short man in the heavy coat, whose name turned out to be Paul, said.
The wedding ended and everyone filed outside after the happy couple.
Beck waited with the Winchesters near the entrance after they left the church.
"So, Rob tells me you hunt demons." the Pastor said joining them.
"Uh...Yes, sir." Sam replied.
"The service was lovely." Beck spoke up.
"Thank you, Miss?" the Pastor replied warmly, asking Beck her name.
"Rebecca." Beck replied.
"Well, Rebecca the apocalypse seems to bring out what really matters to people, even if they only have it for a short while." the Pastor said.
Beck smiled and nodded. She had died and returned, she knew firsthand how much life was a gift. If it took the apocalypse for some people to realize that, Beck wasn't going to be the one to discourage them from their happiness.
Dean quietly noticed the gun strapped to the Pastor's thigh.
"Follow me gentlemen, Miss Rebecca." the Pastor instructed them.
Beck sighed and followed directly behind the Pastor. Dean and Sam exchanged looks, then Dean followed Beck and Sam followed him.
"So, you're a preacher." Dean said from behind Beck, as they descended a staircase.
"Not what you were expecting, huh." the Pastor said with a smile.
"Dude, you're packing." Dean replied as the Pastor opened the door to the church common room.
"Strange time." the Pastor replied.
"Stranger than I ever thought possible." Beck smiled.
Entering the room behind the Pastor, Beck and the Winchesters saw a large group of people; men, women, and even children. They were loading guns, packing ammunition with rock salt, and preparing jugs of holy water.
"Is that a twelve-year-old packing salt rounds?" Dean asked.
"Everybody pitches in." Pastor Gideon replied.
"So, the whole church?" Sam asked.
"I'd say it's more the whole town, Sam." Beck told him.
"You're right, Miss Rebecca." Pastor Gideon confirmed.
"A whole town full of hunters. I don't know whether to run screaming or buy a condo." Dean quipped.
Beck gave a sarcastic snort-laugh.
"So why not call the National Guard?" Sam inquired.
"We were told not to." Pastor Gideon explained.
"It probably better that you didn't, I can't imagine that any form of Military or National Government would have believed you anyhow." Beck said to Pastor Gideon as kindly as she could manage.
"Babe, that exorcism was Enochian. Someone's gotta be tellin' them somethin'" Dean said to Beck.
"If ur willing to back off a min, mister. You'll find out who in a moment." Beck replied.
"Forgive me for prying, Miss Rebecca, but are you a prophet?" Pastor Gideon asked Beck.
"I suppose that could be one way to look at it, but I wouldn't call myself
that." Beck smiled at Pastor Gideon.
"Dad it's okay. This is Sam and Dean Winchester. They're safe. Miss Rebecca is The Protectress. We couldn't be more honored to have her here. I know all about them." a soft voice spoke up.
"You do?" Dean asked.
"This is my daughter, Leah." Pastor Gideon told his visitors.
"Sure. From the angels." Leah replied to Dean.
"Fallen angels." Beck mumbled savagely under her breath.
"Don't worry. They can't see you here. The…marks on your ribs, right?" Leah asked, confirming she was right.
"I don't have marks on my ribs, so how do you know they can't see me. Or that it's so safe to have me here?" Beck challenged keeping her voice even.
"You're The Protectress. You were chosen to help win this war. They don't want you harmed or interfered with. So it's completely safe for you to be among us. It's like a blessing." Leah all but gushed.
Beck looked squarely at Leah and raised an eyebrow. If she knew everything she was claiming then why the hell would Leah truly want Beck to stick around?
No, this bitch had an ulterior motive that exclusively involved Beck.
"So you know all about us because angels told you?" Sam asked Leah.
"Yes. Among other things." Leah replied.
"Like the snappy little exorcism spell."Dean said.
"And they show me where the demons are going to be before it happens. How to fight back." Leah told them.
"Never been wrong. Not once. She's very special." Pastor Gideon beamed.
"No, she wouldn't ever be wrong. You're a prophet, right." Beck stated.
"She is at that." Pastor Gideon returned with a smile.
"If it's not too much trouble I think the boys and would like to grab a bite to eat and process if you don't mind." Beck politely told the Pastor and his daughter.
"Of course." Pastor Gideon replied.
Beck nodded to Leah politely then quickly and quietly strode from the room without waiting to see if Sam and Dean were behind her.
Once outside of the church Beck looked around and found the local watering hole.
She quickly strode across the street, walked down the sidewalk to the bar's entrance, and walked in the door.
Once inside Beck walked up to the bar and recognized Paul from the group that had saved them earlier.
"What can I get for you, miss?" Paul asked with a smile.
"It's Beck and whatever you've got on tap as well as a greasy cheeseburger would be heaven at the moment, please." Beck replied.
"A simple girl. I like it. Paul flirted as he filled a tall glass with beer from the tap, The cheeseburger will take a few minutes."
"Then, I will grab a seat and wait. How much do I owe you?" Beck asked with a slight laugh in her voice.
"Eight dollars should cover it." Paul told her.
"Here's fifteen, For the beer, the burger, and tip for the handsome flirty bartender." Beck replied handing Paul the cash.
"Thank you, pretty lady. That burger will be up shortly. I'll bring it over to you myself." Paul said with a big smile.
Beck laughed and found a seat with enough room for the boys to join her.
Beck pulled her phone out of her jacket and tapped Castiel's name in her contacts.
It rang a couple of times and went to voicemail: You have reached the voicemail box of: I don't understand why, why do you want me to say my name?
A few random button sounds were issued and then the beep indicated for Beck to leave her message.
"Hey Cas, it's Beck when you are done doing whatever it is you're doing please zero your angel butt in on my location. Thanks. Love you." Beck told Cas's voicemail and hung up.
"Here ya go beautiful. One greasy cheeseburger as requested." Paul said bringing Beck her food as the Winchesters joined her at their table.
"Thanks, Paul. Would it be too much if I asked you to pour these two a cold one too?" Beck requested.
"More than happy too." Paul said with a smile and nodded at Sam and Dean.
Dean sat down next to Beck and noted the cheeseburger and beer.
Beck tore the rather large cheeseburger in half and handed it to Dean.
"I'll go get our drinks." Sam said to the others with a smile and a shake of his head.
"Thanks, Sam." Beck called out to Sam's retreating back.
Sam returned to the table and sat down in a chair opposite Beck.
"Becky left Cas a message." Dean told his brother.
"So uh, what's the theory? Why all of the demon hits?" Sam asked Dean and Beck.
"I don't know. Gank the girl? The prophet, maybe?" Dean replied
Sam shook his head. Beck snorted and rolled her eyes.
"What?" Dean asked them.
"Just these angels are sending these people to do their dirty work." Sam said.
"No, they're not hun." Beck said softly after taking a drink of her beer.
"Yeah. And?" Dean said without hearing Beck.
"And they could get ripped to shreds. Becks, what do you mean? It definitely looks that way to me." Sam said to Dean and then to Beck.
"We're all gonna die, Sam. In like a month—maybe two. I mean it. This is the end of the world, but these people aren't freaking out. In fact, they're running to the exit in an orderly fashion. I don't know that that's such a bad thing." Dean stated.
"Who says they're all gonna die? Whatever happened to us saving them?" Sam asked his brother indignantly.
Beck opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by the toll of church bells
Everyone in the bar got up and exited the building.
"Paul. What's going on?" Sam called over to Paul at the bar.
"Leah's had another vision." Paul called back.
"Wanna go to church?" Sam turned and asked Dean and Beck.
"You know me—downright pious." Dean quipped.
"Sure, if the religion centered around pie. We'd never get you outta church." Beck flung over her shoulder at Dean as she and Sam made their way to the exit.
Once out of the bar Beck and the Winchesters followed the crowd back to the church and went inside to hear Leah's latest vision.
After everyone found a spot Pastor Gideon began.
"Three miles off Talmadge Road." Pastor Gideon began.
Leah whispered to Pastor Gideon to correct him.
"Five miles. There are demons gathered. I…don't know how many, but a lot. Thank you, Leah. So, who's going to join me?" Pastor Gideon thanked Leah and asked everyone gathered.
"Wouldn't miss it." Rob called out.
"Someone's got to cover Rob's ass." Paul wisecracked.
"We're in, Padre." Dean said loudly.
"Do we have to?" Beck quietly grumbled to Sam, who smiled in return.
"Thank you. I'd like to offer a prayer. "Our Father in Heaven-" Pastor Gideon began.
"Yeah, not so much." Dean cracked softly to Sam and Beck.
"Like at all." Beck cracked back at Dean, softly bumping his hip with hers.
"Do you think you two could behave?" Sam asked his brother and his best friend with a smirk.
"Help us to fight in your name. We ask that you protect us from all servants of evil. Guide our hands in defeating them, and deliver us home, safely. Thank you, Amen." Pastor Gideon continued without hearing any of the banter at the back of the church.
The group headed outside and got into their vehicles. The Winchesters and Beck followed the others. Upon arriving five miles off Talmadge Road everyone got out of their vehicles, loaded up, and followed Pastor Gideon.
Beck quickly realized she was sans weapon and it appeared that her men had not noticed. Paul, on the other hand, had noticed.
"Here ya go, beautiful." Paul said, handing her a sawed-off shotgun.
"Thanks, Paul." Beck said with a grateful smile.
The group headed up an embankment to an abandoned house. The pastor gave everyone hand signals of which way to go to enter the house.
Beck followed Sam to the front door with Paul. Sam knelt down and picked the front door lock while Paul and Beck covered his back.
"When this is over remind me to call dad." Beck told Sam.
The sound of one of the shotguns went off causing Sam, Beck, and Paul to turn in the direction of the noise. Once momentarily distracted a demon rushed Paul and they crashed through the nearby window.
Sam got the lock opened. He and Beck rushed in to help Paul.
Sam came up behind the demon and stabbed him in the back with the demon blade.
Sam turned around and slashed another demon across the throat.
Moving forward he stabbed another demon in the chest, as Paul and Beck covered his back. Beck noticed another one coming at Paul and shot it.
"Ughhh" Beck grunted.
"You okay?" Paul asked.
"Fine." Beck said through gritted teeth.
Moving forward Sam slashed another demon across the throat while Paul shot at any strays coming their way. Beck discovered that she was unable to move her left wrist leaving her unable to fire her gun. This made it possible for a demon to grab her from behind and throw her down. Beck fought back and spun around only to be grabbed by throat by the demon. Sam lunged at the demon, threw it off Beck, stumbling over in the process, and threw the demon blade into the demon's back. Dean, standing nearby at the foot of the stairs battling another demon, pulled the demon blade out of its back and stuck it in the one he was fighting. The fight was over, the group gathered together and exited the house.
Heading back to the car Sam said, "I guess that's what it's like, huh?
"What?" Dean asked.
"Having back up." Sam replied.
"What the heck am I, a pink flamingo?!" Beck uttered indignantly pushing her way past Dean and Sam.
The Winchesters gave each other an "Oops" look and had the grace to feel a little guilty.
Beck hustled down the embankment to catch up with Pastor Gideon.
Once she had done so Beck tapped him on the should with her right hand.
Pastor Gideon turned around, smiled at Beck, and asked, "What can I do for you, Rebecca?"
"Would it be possible for me to ride back with you? Beck asked, showing the good Pastor her left wrist.
"Did that happen during the fight? Forgive me, that was a stupid question. You didn't join us with an injured wrist. Of course, you're welcome to ride back with us. On the
way back I'll check how bad the damage is and we'll get you all fixed up when we are back in town." Pastor Gideon told Beck.
"Thank you." Beck replied.
Pastor Gideon and Paul helped Beck into the back of the Holy Water pickup truck.
Dylan ran over and asked Dean and Sam if he would ride back with them.
Dean waved to Rob in the driver's seat of the pickup letting him know it was fine.
Both he and Sam exchanged another look noticing that Beck was riding back with the others and not them.
In the pickup, halfway, back to town Pastor Gideon crouched down to where Beck was sitting and assessed her wrist. Beck hissed in pain at the Pastor's examination.
"I'm sorry, Rebecca, but I am almost certain it's fractured." the Pastor told her.
"Great. So what's next, Reverend?" Beck asked with a frown of pain.
"Please call me David. When we get back to the church I'll get an ace bandage and wrap it up for you. Then it would probably be a good idea that we take you to a hospital." David Gideon replied.
"Thank you, David. Just the ace bandage and some ibuprofen if you have it will work fine. It's not serious enough to need a hospital visit." Beck thanked him.
Once they reached the church and parked, David and Paul helped Beck out of the back of the pickup. David lead the way into the church with Beck following. They went downstairs to the basement common room where he found the medical supplies and wrapped part of Beck's forearm down to her hand. He left her fingers and her thumb exposed. When he was done he gave her a bottle of ibuprofen to keep for the pain.
As David and Beck were exiting the common room together they heard a commotion coming from upstairs. They raced up the stairs to find Sam and Dean carrying the body of Dylan he had been killed by a demon shortly after the others had left.
Rob and Jane saw their dead son's body and broke down.
Pastor Gideon did his best to comfort him, while Beck got the boys to put down the body.
She quietly ushered the boys back to the Impala. David joined them a few minutes later, thanked the Winchesters for bringing Dylan's body back, and told them the funeral would be the next day. Beck thanked the reverend and hustled the boys into the car to go back to their motel room.
In their motel room, Beck reheated some food and grabbed three beers. The three of them ate in silence and did little talking for the rest of the evening. At bedtime, Beck quietly slipped into bed with Dean, said goodnight to Sam, and tried to fall asleep. Neither man noticed Beck's wrapped wrist.
The next day was as quiet as the night before, the three of them got ready and when it was the time went to the church.
Beck waited inside the church entrance while people filed in.
Sam and Dean waited outside the church entrance while waiting for Dylan's parents.
When they arrived they stopped in front of Dean and Sam.
"Ma'am, we're just, um, very sorry." Dean said to Jane.
"You know…this is your fault." replied Jane brokenly.
"Jane. Come on." Rob said to his wife.
Sam and Dean joined Beck once everyone had arrived and were seated.
"I wish I knew what to say. But I don't. I'm so sorry, Jane, Rob. There are no words. Dylan… I don't know why this happened. I don't know why any of this is happening. I got no easy answers. But what I do know is—Leah, honey?" Pastor Gideon began, then interrupted himself when he noticed Leah fall and have a seizure.
"Oh, here we go." Beck scoff softly.
"Leah, honey? Honey? It's okay sweetie. It's okay." Pastor Gideon told his daughter.
"Dad, it's Dylan." Leah said struggling to sit up.
"Just rest a minute, huh? Her father advised.
"No, listen. Dylan's coming back. Jane, Rob… It's going to be okay. You'll see Dylan again. When the final day comes, Judgment Day, he'll be resurrected and you'll be together again. We'll all be together. With all our loved ones. We've been chosen. The angels have chosen us. And we will be given paradise on earth. All we have to do is follow the angels' commandments." Jane stood and told the whole congregation.
Dean, Sam, and Beck sitting in the last row, quietly got up and left the church.
"No drinking, no gambling, no premarital sex. Dean, they basically just outlawed ninety percent of your personality." Sam said to his brother.
"Yeah, well, whatever. When in Rome." Dean replied dismissively.
"Yeah, well we're not in Rome, jackass and for the record, God made the commandments not angels. So following the angel commandments won't get these people or you for that matter closer to heaven." Beck snarled at Dean turning on her heel and reentering the church.
"Nice, job." Sam told his brother and walked off with a scoff of exasperation.
Once inside the church, Beck sought out Leah and found her in her father's office.
"Are you feeling up to company?" Beck asked Leah entering the office and closing the door.
"Of course, was there something you wanted to talk about?" Leah asked pleasantly.
"First please drop the butter wouldn't melt on my tongue act its nauseating. Second, you're not Leah Gideon, I already know that so you can drop the act." Beck replied brutally.
"Well, if I'm not Leah Gideon, just who am then?" Leah asked Beck evenly dropping the sweet as honey facade.
"The Whore of Babylon. I gotta tell ya though, you are one hell of an actress. You've got this entire town, plus my men completely fooled." Beck responded.
"I was told you'd be a challenge. My acting isn't bad, is it? These fools want to believe so badly that they are doing this to get into heaven. They're willing to do whatever I say as long as it "comes from the angels". I'm not so sure Sam is convinced, but your Dean is so desperate he'll grasp at any straw given to him at this point." The Whore said to Beck with a smirk.
"I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that you were told I would be a challenge by Lucifer right?" Beck asked.
"He also said you were smart. He didn't lie." The Whore replied.
"I could say that I could've outed you at any time, but we both know that that would've maybe worked with Sam and Dean." Beck said nonchalantly.
"True. But I saw you when we met you're more interested in what I want with you." The Whore told her.
"Fair enough. So, what do you want?" Beck demanded.
"Just to give you some information, pass along a message as it were." The Whore replied.
"Okay. What?" Beck asked.
"Your bloodline is just as viable as the Winchesters. I've also been told you have no issues about making deals with both sides." The Whore told her.
"Lucifer is willing to have an alternate vessel, is willing to leave Sam alone if I….." Beck trailed off.
"Exactly." The Whore confirmed.
The Whore and Beck looked at each other for a long moment, then wordlessly Beck exited the room. Beck left the church and wandered around the town for a while trying to wrap her mind around what The Whore had told her.
Taking Sam's place as Lucifer's vessel was a tempting idea she couldn't deny, especially if Dean didn't become his vessel like on the show in her reality.
Beck looked up and became aware of her surroundings; she was in front of Paul's Bar.
Sure, she could use a drink about now. Beck walked in and found Sam sitting at the bar talking with Paul.
"Sit anywhere you like gorgeous." Paul called to her.
"Looks like the prime seats are here at the bar with you two." Beck said walking over to the bar and sitting next to Sam.
"How's your wrist?" Paul asked.
"Throbbing. Hoping you could put a girl outta her misery and her a scotch on the rock." Beck replied with a tired smile.
"Becks, what the hell happened to your hand?!" Sam exclaimed.
"My hand? Nothing Sam, I fractured my wrist shooting a demon at that house we cleared out." Beck replied.
"Here ya go darlin.'" Paul said sliding Beck's drink to her.
"Cheers." Beck said and raised her glass with her working hand.
"How...I mean you're a good shot Becks. You've won shooting competitions. What happened?" Sam asked confused.
"I wasn't paying attention. Got careless and got injured. It's not that unusual, Sam." Beck replied before taking a scotch.
"I can't believe you were injured...you have a fractured wrist and we didn't notice. Becks, I'm so sorry." Sam apologized.
"It's alright, Sam. Dean's been acting out of it and you've been focusing on him. He's your brother. I get it." Beck replied.
"We should have been paying attention." Sam said unwilling to excuse his and Dean's behavior.
"Let it go, man. She's a tough chick and it looks like the last thing she wants is for you to feel guilty and beat yourself up." Paul told Sam.
"Let's just drink." Beck said with a smile.
The three of them drank until curfew. Sam and Beck made their way back to the motel.
When they walked in Dean was sitting on the bed waiting for them.
"Where two you been?" Dean asked.
"Drinkin'." Sam replied.
"Rebels." Dean said fondly.
"We'd have had more, um, but it was curfew." Sam told him.
"Right." Dean replied.
"You hear they shut down the cell towers?" Sam continued.
"Guess I won't be calling dad for a while. Shit." Beck interjected.
"No. That's, uh, news to me." Dean told him.
"Yeah. No cable, or internet. Total cut off from the "corruption of the outside world."" Sam went on.
"Sam, please shut up." Beck told Sam.
"Nasty headache?" Dean asked Beck.
"No the room is spinning and I am trying to decide whether or not to hit you with an ashtray." Beck snapped, laying on Sam's bed.
"Dean. They're turning this place into some kind of fundamentalist compound." Sam frustratedly told his brother.
"I get it. I just don't care." Dean told his brother.
"What?" Sam asked in disbelief.
Beck sat up from her spot on Sam's bed, got up, walked over to Dean, and said, "I don't know what fucking stick you got up ur ass Winchester and I honestly don't give a shit. But if you don't pull your head out of your ass, I'm gonna get real nasty real quick."
You two are the only things, I got keeping me going. You think you're the only one white-knuckling it here, Dean? Have you even takin a good look at Beck recently? Do you even care?" Sam demanded.
"Save your breath, Sammy. His highness is too lost in self-pity land to give a shit what's going on with you and me." Beck scoffed disgustedly.
"I got to clear my head." Dean told the other two.
"It's past curfew." Sam said to Dean's back as he walked out the door.
"I should've knocked him out with the ashtray." Beck said absentmindedly sitting in the nearest chair.
Sam gave a soft snort-laugh and poured Beck a cup of coffee.
Beck drank her coffee, tried to relax, and watched Sam pace the floor.
When Sam was tired of pacing he went to his bag and grabbed a book.
"I got your message, Rebecca." Cas slurred, popping from who knows where.
"What's wrong with you? Are you…drunk?" Sam ask surprised.
"No!…Yes." Cas replied.
"What the hell happened to you?" Sam asked.
"I found a liquor store." Cas replied.
"And?" Sam asked.
"He drank it, Sammy," Beck replied with a grin.
"Yes. What did you need, Rebecca?" Cas wobbled and was helped to sit on the bed by Sam.
"The Whore of Babylon is here and she's got nearly the entire town, including Dean, thinking she's a prophet of the lord." Beck replied with a roll of her eyes.
"Wait, you mean Leah Gideon is not a prophet?" Sam stunned
"No. The names of all the prophets, they're seared into my brain. Leah Gideon is not one of them." Cas replied.
"Well, that sounds unpleasant." Beck quipped as she poured Cas a cup of black coffee.
"So...so what do we do now?" Sam asked looking from the drunk angel to his injured best friend.
"Sober up Cas as much as possible. Dean should be back in the morning so…..just wait for him." Beck replied.
"You still gonna try to smash an ashtray across his face?" Sam asked with a crooked smile.
"That depends entirely upon him Sammy my love." Beck said shooting back her own grin.
Sam and Beck spent almost the rest of the night pouring coffee down Castiel's throat.
Beck fell asleep sometime around 3:30am, curled up on Dean's bed.
Sam made Cas recline and rest on his bed, just in case the angel felt sick during the night.
He then grabbed a throw pillow, put it under Beck's arm to elevate her wrist, and gingerly climbed into bed next to her to grab a little sleep.
Sam work up first, had a shower, and then made fresh coffee.
He checked on Beck and she seemed to still be sleeping. He then checked on Cas, who was awake.
"Morning Cas, fresh coffee?" Sam asked.
"Yes." Cas answered still feeling drunk.
"Here ya go." Sam said handing his friend a fresh cup.
"Sam, why is Rebecca injured?" Cas asked.
"She fractured her wrist on a demon hunt." Sam responded.
"How is Dean dealing with it?" Cas wanted to know.
He..uh he hasn't noticed Cas." Sam replied.
"I don't understand. Dean is in love with Rebecca. How has he not noticed her injury?" Cas questioned.
Dean...he hasn't really been himself since we came here."Sam said, omitting the fact that he hadn't noticed it either until the evening before at the bar.
The door opened, Dean came into the motel room, and shut the door.
"You alright?" Sam asked turning around and noticing blood on Dean.
"Yeah. It's—it's not my blood. Paul's dead." Dean replied.
Beck sat up at the sound of Dean's voice and stretched forgetting, momentarily, about her fractured wrist.
"Arggg!" Beck cried out in pain.
"Becks!" Sam yelled running to her.
"Becky! Baby, what happened?!" Dean exclaimed, hot on his brother's heels.
"She fractured her wrist a couple days ago." Cas informed him groggily.
"I'm...I'm okay." Beck gasped out.
"The hell you are! This happened at the demon hunt?" Dean demanded.
"Yeah, Gideon bandaged it up for her. Looks like the bandage needs to be replaced, sit tight while I get you a fresh one." Sam told his brother and then Beck.
"Mmm-k." Beck returned with a thick swallow.
"You..uh need anything?" Dean asked sitting down next to Beck.
"Two things, if you think you can manage it, mister." Beck replied.
"Yeah sure, what?" Dean agreed.
"Grab me the ibuprofen on the table over there." Beck told him.
Dean went over to the table, grabbed the bottle, came back to the bed, sat down, and handed it to Beck.
"So, what's the second thing?" Dean asked.
"A kiss." Beck told him.
Dean's face broke out into a grin. This woman always amazed him last night she was dead set on assaulting him with a glass ashtray, this morning she wanted to kiss him.
"I think I can handle that." Dean said, then leaned over and kissed Beck.
"Okay, you two break it up." Sam said with a smile as he sat on the other side of Beck.
"As charming as this reunion is we have bigger problems at the moment." Cas said as Sam worked on Beck's wrist.
"Yeah. Where the hell have you been anyway?" Dean asked.
"On a bender." Cas replied.
"Did he—did you say "on a bender?" Dean wanted to know incredulous.
"Yeah. He's still pretty smashed." Sam replied.
"If you drank an entire liquor store and survived, you'd probably be pretty smashed too." Beck chuckled.
"It doesn't matter. We need to talk about what's happening here." Cas interjected.
"Well, I'm all ears." Dean said.
"Well, for starters…Leah is not a real prophet." Sam told him.
"Well, what is she, exactly?" Dean wanted to know.
"The Whore of Babylon." Beck told him.
"She rises when Lucifer walks the earth. "And she shall come, bearing false prophecy." This creature has the power to take a human's form, read minds." Cas intoned.
"The real Leah was probably killed months ago." Sam said.
"What about the demons attacking the town?" Dean wanted to know.
"They're under her control." Cas told him.
"And the Enochian exorcism?" Dean asked.
"Utter bullshit." Beck said."
"It actually means, "you, um, breed with the mouth of a goat. It's funnier in Enochian." Cas translated.
"Have you known the entire time?" Dean turned and asked Beck.
"I'm sure it is, Cas, and Yes Dean why do you think I called Cas? I didn't see any point in telling you and Sam what was going to happen without backup. You two have a history of not listening, remember?" Beck said to Cas and reminded Dean.
Sam and Dean looked at each other.
"Ok, so what's the endgame?" Dean asked.
"What you just saw—innocent blood spilled in God's name." Cas replied.
"You heard all that heaven talk. She manipulates people." Sam said.
"To slaughter and kill and sing preppy little hymns. Awesome." Dean complained.
"Nauseating is more like it." Beck grumbled.
"Her goal is to condemn as many souls to hell as possible. And it's…just beginning. She's well on her way to dragging this whole town into the pit." Cas told them.
"Alright. So, then, how do we go Pimp of Babylon all over this bitch?" Dean wisecracked.
"Seriously Dean." Beck giggled.
Dean looked at Beck and smiled. It felt really good to see her happy with him again.
The three humans spent the rest of the day trying to sober up their angel.
Sam and Dean spent time in between sobering up Cas alternating alternately babying Beck and arguing with her that she could not be involved in ganking "The Whore of Babylon."
That evening Cas made a stake appear in his hand, he put it down on the bedside table in front of Sam, Dean, and Beck.
"The whore can be killed with that. It's a stake made from a cypress tree in Babylon." Cas explained.
"Great. Let's ventilate her." Dean said.
"It's not that easy." Cas told him.
"'Course not." Dean replied exasperatedly.
"The whore can only be killed by a true Servant of Heaven." Cas informed them.
"I can do it." Beck said quietly.
"I already knew that, Rebecca. Cas said to Beck and then turned to the Winchesters and said, Which is why she has to go, it has to be her. She is a true Servant of Heaven."
"How do you figure that Cas?" Sam asked.
"Heaven does not give people the choice to come back or not. Rebecca saw her paradise and willingly left it. She was given that opportunity because she must have a destiny that needs to be fulfilled." Cas told him.
"Cas her wrist is fractured, man. She takes another hit it's broken. She could get killed doing this 'specially considering she's not operating at a hundred percent." Dean argued.
"What happened to running toward the exit in an orderly fashion? We're all gonna be dead in a month, two tops right? What does it matter if I cash my ticket in early trying to kill "The Whore of Babylon"?" Beck turned on Dean vehemently.
Dean's eyes widened, she had just used his own words against him. He opened his mouth to say something and nothing came out.
"Becks, what would we tell Bobby? It'd kill him to know he just found you and lost you as quickly. You're all I got besides Dean. I don't want to lose my best friend." Sam told Beck feeling a little lost.
"Well Sam-I-Am, unless you know another Servant of Heaven. I'm gonna have to be the one to do it." Beck said with a sigh.
"What about Gideon? He's a preacher? Wouldn't that qualify him as a true Servant of Heaven?" Dean asked regaining his voice.
"It should.' Cas replied.
"So go get him. I cannot lose her again, no matter how far off the apocalypse is." Dean told Cas.
Cas vanished.
It was Beck's turn to be rendered speechless.
Fifteen minutes later Cas returned with Pastor David Gideon.
"What the hell was that?" Gideon exclaimed.
"Yeah, he wasn't lying about the angel thing. Have a seat, Padre. We got to have a chat." Dean told him.
Cas and the Winchesters sat down with David Gideon ad explained to him what they needed him to do. Beck remained quiet.
Pastor Gideon looked at the cypress stake and shook his head.
"No. She's my daughter." Gideon denied.
"I'm sorry, but she's not. She's the thing that killed your daughter." Dean said.
"That's impossible." Gideon reiterated.
"But it's true. And deep down, you know it. Look, we get it—it's too much. But if you don't do this, she's going to k*ll a lot of people. And damn the rest to hell." Sam told him.
"Sam!" Beck admonished finally speaking up.
Dean picked up the stake and held it out to Pastor Gideon.
"It's just…Why does it have to be me?" Gideon begged.
"Because the ding-dong I'm dating is selfish." Beck sighed.
"You're a Servant of Heaven." Cas said.
"And you're an angel." Pastor Gideon said distressed.
"Poor example of one." Cas replied.
"No, you're not. You're going through some shit, pardon the language, David." Beck admonished Cas and apologized to Pastor Gideon.
Pastor Gideon, the Winchesters, and Cas got into the car.
Dean refused to let Beck into the Impala and left her locked in the bathroom for her own safety.
After Beck heard the Impala leave she picked the bathroom door lock, ran out of the hotel room and to the church.
When Beck got to the church she headed straight for the basement common room and saw the parishioners, they were waiting on Leah.
"What are you people doing?" Beck demanded, hearing the people locked in the closet.
"Leah said we had to get rid of them if we want to be reunited with our son." Rob explained.
"Rob, think about this. Dylan was a wonderful young man, do you really think he would want you to commit murder just to be with him again." Beck reasoned worriedly.
"I...I don't know. Leah said this is the only way we could see him again." Rob replied doubtfully.
"I understand. I'd give just about anything to see my mother and grandparents again." Beck sympathized.
"Help me! He's a demon!" Leah cried running into the room.
The parishioner fought Pastor Gideon as he came in, causing him to lose the cypress stake.
"Light the kerosene." Leah ordered.
The sinners locked in the storage room beg to be let out. Sam tackled Rob before he could light the kerosene, and then threw the lighter across the room.
Leah knocked Dean down with her telekinesis, unaware that in all the commotion Beck had slipped under the table and grabbed the cypress stake from where Pastor Gideon had dropped it when he was knocked out.
Leah climbed on top of Dean and began to choke him.
"This is why my team's gonna win. You're the great vessel? You're pathetic, self-hating, and faithless. It's the end of the world. And you're just gonna sit back and watch it happen." Leah taunted.
"Do me a favor. Keep your hands off my boyfriend hell-bitch!" Beck snarled stabbing "The Whore of Babylon" in the back with the cypress stake.
The Whore let go of Dean, who rolled out of the way and began to convulse until she turned into ash.
"But…I don't understand. How are we supposed to get to paradise now?" Jane whimpered.
"I'm sorry. Pretty sure you're headed in a different direction." Dean remarked.
Pastor Gideon attempted to stand. Sam grabbed him and helped him up.
"Gotcha." Sam said.
"Come on." Dean called to the others.
"Sure you don't want to lock me in another bathroom?" Beck asked him annoyed.
"Let's just go." Sam interjected to avoid another fight between the two.
Dean and Sam had Castiel and Pastor Gideon and helped them walk up the stairs.
Beck trailed behind them.
Dean and Sam help Castiel and Gideon into the car while Beck slid into the middle front seat.
"Alright. Here we go." Dean said to Cas
"Watch your head, now." Sam told Pastor Gideon
"So, wow Beck really is a Servant of Heaven. Are you gonna do something stupid?" Sam questioned his brother.
"Like what?" Dean wanted to know.
"Like Michael stupid." Sam clarified.
"Come on, Sam. Give me a break." Dean responded annoyed.
"Will you two just shut up and get in the car already." Beck yelled at them.
Once they got back to the hotel Dean got Cas on the bed to relax and Sam began taking care of David Gideon.
"How's the head?" Dean asked Gideon.
"I'm seeing double. But that may be the painkillers." David replied with an ice pack on his head while Sam bandaged his arm and hand.
"You'll be okay." Dean told him.
"No." David disagreed.
Beck walked past them and started to head out the door.
"Where are you going?" Sam asked her.
"Just gonna grab some clean bandages out of the trunk. Chill." Beck replied.
"I'll give you a hand." Dean stated.
"Sure." Beck called over her shoulder heading to the Impala.
"Get in will ya?" Dean requested once they were at the car.
Beck complied thinking Dean wanted to talk in private.
Dean started the Impala and revved the engine. Sam ran out after him and Beck as Dean sped away.
"Dean! What the hell? What are you doing? Why are we leaving Sam behind?!" Beck demanded, turning around and watching Sam yell and chase after them through the back window.
Dean did not answer and continued to drive.
