Emily was exhausted, she had been awake for around twenty-six hours and had just arrived home after a long gruelling case. She hadn't been able to sleep on the plane ride back due to graphic thoughts about the victims on their latest case and now she was dead on her feet. Stumbling through the front door Emily dropped her things and kicked off her shoes, not stopping to put them away like she normally did. JJ came in behind her watching her girlfriend through tired eyes, she had managed to get some sleep on the flight back and had decided that Emily was to tried to drive home and she would take her in her car. The brunette had agreed instantly the thought of driving being to much for her in her tired state. Throughout the journey the brunette felt herself becoming irritable, she had been filled with annoyance for no reason.
After she dropped her things Emily moved to crash on the couch as tired as she was she wasn't ready for sleep. As JJ moved around to sit on the couch next to her Emily melted into her side,
"Mama," she whined softy nuzzling up close when the blonde had settled down next to her,
"Hi baby, are you sleepy?" The blonde asked running tan fingers through soft brown locks. The little only shrugged, rubbing at her eyes. JJ pulled away preparing to stand up and lead her girl to bed but as soon as she did the brunette burst into harsh sobs. Her hands fell to her sides and she bashed them against the couch in frustration. She wasn't okay! Shocked JJ pulled her girl into her lap and wrapped her arms tightly around her,
"What's wrong love bug? What happened huh? It's okay sweetheart," the blonde rambled out desperate to work out what was wrong with her baby. Relaxing a little in her mama's embrace the harsh, ragged sobs turned to silent cries and Emily shrugged, she didn't know what was wrong she felt tired and grumpy and she wanted her mama to hold her. Confused, JJ stood up manoeuvring Emily onto her hip and let her bury a pale face into the crook of her neck. With Emily seemingly content Jennifer carried the girl into the bedroom and placed her down onto the bed. As soon as she had the cries picked up again, Emily cried hard thumping tight fists against the mattress. Moving quickly JJ grabbed a pull up and some pyjamas to
put onto Emily. As soon as the little saw the pull up she scrambled back away from the edge of the bed,
"No no! Don't want that mama! No!" The brunette proclaimed loudly. Sighing gently JJ put down the pull up and sat down on the bed opening up her arms an invitation for the mentally younger one. Hesitating a moment Emily crawled across the mattress curling into the blonde's arms. JJ held her for a moment,
"Pumpkin you know the pull up is just sp you don't have any accidents and I don't mind that you wear it. Why don't you want to wear it honey?" Jennifer asked gently. Emily only shrugged, sniffling a little before sticking her thumb into her mouth. Not saying anything the blonde pulled the pale thumb out of the mouth before quickly replacing it with a pacifier, not giving the brunette a moment to cry about it.
"How about we go potty first and then the pull up huh? Can you do that for me baby?" The blonde murmured softly into the brunette's ear. She waited a moment for her girl to nod in agreement before carrying her into the bathroom and placing her down on the toilet. No longer in her mama's arms Emily began to get upset again, crying out she tried to get of the toilet but struggled with her pants around her ankles,
"Mama!" She cried out loudly reaching out for the blonde,
"Love bug go potty for me please, it's okay I'm right here go on sweetheart," JJ told her gently moving closer and grabbing the pale hands stretched out to her letting the girl sit fully back down on the toilet. It didn't take long for Emily to finish and JJ cleaned her up quickly pulling the pull up and pyjamas onto her.
Once her girl was all sorted she put Emily down on the bed to quickly get changed herself, she tried to move as fast as possible in her tired state, worried about leaving Emily without physical contact for to long and having that result in another breakdown. When she turned around the brunette had silent tears running down her face, she reached out to her mama wanting to be in her arms again. Obliging, JJ picked up her girl letting her slump against her own body,
"Do you want your bottle baby?" JJ asked softly,
"Yes please mama," Emily responded quietly, "but mama I come with you," Emily said not wanting to be on her own while the blonde got her drink.
"Alright pumpkin you can sit in the kitchen counter while I make it, does that sound alright?" Emily thought about it for a moment she would rather be in her mama's arms but she wanted a bottle so being near her mama would be good enough. Prentiss nodded and Jennifer moved to the kitchen to make the bottle for her with the brunette on her hip.
Once Em had finished her bottle, wrapped up in the safety of her mamas arms, she felt her eyes drooping and allowed herself to be moved gently to be burped. However, as the blonde tried to lay them both down the brunette started sobbing again. Poor Emily didn't know what was going on she felt so frustrated and tired but her mind was fighting her. She grabbed at the blonde's shirt desperately trying to ground herself. This worried the blonde she just couldn't work out what was going on with the brunette,
"Love bug talk to me, what wrong baby? Are you able to tell me or show me?" The tired woman asked desperately wishing she could help her partner. Emily merely shook her head and cried harder. Even more worried now JJ got out of the bed and pulled the brunette into her arms bouncing her gently. This seemed to settle her girl and JJ saw that her eyes began to close,
"I think your overtired baby, don't fight the sleep I'm right here just close your eyes love bug," Jennifer whispered softly continuing to walk around around the bedroom bouncing her girl gently. It took around twenty minutes but eventually quiet snores came from the girl resting over her shoulder. Her poor girl had just been to tired to let herself sleep. Being careful not to wake the sleeping little JJ gently put her down on the bed and pulled the covers over her, before slipping in herself, she switched off the light and settled down herself before leaning over to place a soft kiss on Emily's hairline,
"Sleep well love bug."
