Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon, I only own Violet Hawke as my OC.
Summary: Violet Hawke wanted nothing more than to be a Bug Pokemon Trainer, but with how people viewed those types all she got was ridicule until the day she bumped into the local Professor. Now on a journey, she tries to make her goal a reality, but with an Organization coming out of the shadows she has to decide just how much she's willing to risk to realize her goal.
Chapter 17: Perils of Seafoam Island
Samuel Oak was beside himself with worry as he watched the News showing how the SS. Anne was attacked by Team Rocket the other day which resulted with multiple people injured along with their Pokemon stolen and at least a dozen casualties.
This was by far the biggest thing Team Rocket has done in years, or the biggest thing that's out in the open that is. It was a whole mess with both PR and with people questioning if the League could really protect them from.
But what had Oak worried the most was that two trainers were unaccounted for.
Violet Hawke and Green Oak.
That part wasn't in the News, but with how high up Prof. Oak was within the League despite now just being a Researcher, he was one of the few that knew, especially considering how the last one was his own Grandson.
Looking down from the News as it began speaking about a rise of crime in the cities Celadon and Saffron, Oak saw his untouched coffee most likely cold due to how long it sat there.
Feeling exhausted from the stress, Oak rubbed his face in an effort to keep awake before he stood up to pace.
Pacing was one of the ways he calms himself, it helps him think of ideas.
There has to be something he can do to make sure that they were alive.
Yet he didn't know how, if they weren't on the ship then they probably fell in the sea and that meant they could be anywhere.
If only there was some way to-.
An idea struck Oak as he made his way out of his study towards his lab, nearly tripping over the scattered research papers that were all over the place showing that he needed to clean up.
But that can wait.
Eventually he came to his lab where a third, unfinished Pokedex was, he was in the process of making it to catalogue Pokemon that weren't from Kanto should they return, but it was a long way from being finished.
And it wouldn't be finished until every Kanto Pokemon was fully catalogued and added.
What was on there was the tracking system he implemented into the first two, so there was a chance he could use it to find Green and Violet.
Plugging it into his computer, Prof. Oak typed relentlessly, booting up the Prototype Mk. II Pokedex and activating its systems, bypassing the unfinished subroutines before the map came up with two dots blinking, making him grin.
Green woke up in pain.
Not too surprising given what happened, but he was surprised that he actually woke up at all.
Weren't they blasted into the Ocean?
Shifting a bit, Green grimaced as he felt something poking him and he glanced down only to see two things.
One was Violet who thankfully didn't drift off in another direction, though how her damn hat remained on was a mystery in itself, the other thing was the Pokemon that was ferrying them despite the small size.
It was a Pokemon with a spiky purple shell that was opened wide to help accommodate both of them, showing a grey spiky shell and a round inky black sphere with white eyes and teeth.
"Ster!"
Staring at the Pokemon in confusion, Green's eyes widened when he made the connection. "Shellder?" He asked, remembering seeing that Pokemon being blasted off the ship.
This Pokemon was Cloyster, the evolved form.
But it didn't make any sense, Shellder only evolved with a Water Stone, so there was no way she should've evolved.
Unless when she fell there happened to be a Water Stone in the ocean.
If that was the case that was some extreme luck right there.
Cloyster made another sound as she grinned and kept moving.
Allowing a small smile at Cloyster, Green turned from her to Violet, making sure that she was still breathing after everything that happened.
Once that was done, Green breathed a sigh of relief, allowing for him to see his own breath showing how cold it was.
This wasn't good, he wasn't feeling the cold which meant he was freezing and was close to getting hypothermia.
"Wake up." Green shook Violet harshly.
She wasn't waking up showing how bad this was.
Looking around, Green could see land nearby, but an intense blizzard was practically surrounding it.
Gritting his teeth, Green made his decision.
They had no idea when they would see land if they passed this place. If he didn't get Violet to wake up soon or at least somewhere dry and warm then she would still die.
Same with him if he didn't get out of the water.
"Cloyster get us to that island." Green ordered with the Cloyster changing directions at once, wanting to make sure her trainer survived.
It didn't take too long, but the cold was even worse, biting at his skin the moment they got there with Green now realizing where they were.
Seafoam Island.
Not wasting any time as he managed to get out of the water, his wet clothes making the cold worse, Green managed to send out Raticate and Sandshrew who managed to recover a little bit in the time he was out.
As he did that, he didn't notice the glazed look that Cloyster was starting to show.
"D-Dig a small cave." Green ordered through chattering teeth, knowing that they needed shelter fast.
As they did that, Green thanked Cloyster and returned her before grabbing Violet, trying to wake her up again.
This time it worked as she groaned, her eyes a bit unfocused. "W-Wha-?"
"Later, get up and keep awake." Green said in a harsh tone, not wanting to waste any time. "Once Sandshrew and Raticate finish digging we need to get out of this blizzard."
Hearing that, Violet sneezed as she tried to reach Parasite's Pokeball before sending him out, seeing the bug shiver from the cold. "H-H-Help dig the cave please."
Parasite gave a small cry as she dove in the hole to help, earning a surprised cry from the other two but they kept going.
It didn't take too long as they both ducked into the makeshift cave before Green opened his bag and began to pull some stuff out.
Violet blinked at seeing him pull out a tarp before giving her a look. "Send out either your Beedrill or Butterfree." He said, confusing her, but she complied, sending Silk out.
"What do you need her to do?" Violet asked, rubbing her arms together in an attempt to get warm.
"Help me hold this up and have her string shot the top and bottom of the tarp to the entrance." Green explained rather quickly, wanting this done with. "That way we keep the wind out."
Giving a nod, Violet helped hold it up as Silk followed the directions and soon enough the entrance was sealed and their Pokemon recalled to keep them out of the cold.
With that done, he pulled out a small battery powered lantern to give them some light. "You do have extra clothes right?" He asked given how they needed to get out of their wet clothes.
"They're in my bag." Violet managed to get out while shivering.
Thankfully the contents of the bag were untouched by the water.
She was also happy that her hat didn't go flying off while she was unconscious.
"Then hurry up and change while I get the heater running." Green was already pulling it out showing that it was another appliance that was battery powered.
"W-Wouldn't a fire work better?" Violet asked only for Green to make a tsk sound out of annoyance.
"Do you see any wood nearby?" Green asked sarcastically with Violet rolling her eyes at how he was being. "Besides even if there was wood, we would risk carbon dioxide considering we have the entrance sealed."
Giving him that, Violet checked her bag and pulled out a second set of clothes that matched the first set to change into as the heater kicked on with heat flooding their small cave.
It was even better when she was in dry clothes.
Moments later Green was wearing a black shirt and purple pants with a green jacket, the two of them sitting near the heater.
"So where are we?" Violet couldn't help but ask after a few minutes of awkward silence.
"Seafoam Island."
Violet winced at the answer, now understanding the reason they were trapped in a blizzard.
Of all the places to end up at.
"There should be a lull in the blizzard at some points, we wait for that before we use Cloyster to get to Cinnabar." Green told Violet his plan as now that he knew where they were, finding the next island should be easy.
The hard part would be getting out of here.
Nothing was said for a bit as Violet squirmed a bit awkwardly.
She just had no idea what to say.
It was almost enough for her to send out Stinger given how she felt more comfortable with the Beedrill out.
But she figured that would've been a bad idea. None of her bugs would do well in this cold, even if they were in a heated space.
"Are those the only clothes you have?"
Violet said nothing at first, taken by surprise with Green starting the conversation, disbelief evident in his tone.
"It's what I'm more comfortable wearing." Violet answered, not sure what he was getting at.
"We're in the middle of a blizzard, you're telling me you never packed anything in case you got caught up in one?" Green continued with Violet now understanding what he was getting at.
"Hey I wasn't expecting to be caught up in one." Violet snapped, glaring at him.
Green muttered profanities under his breath at her idiocy. "It's called being prepared, if you're a trainer you need to think about this stuff."
Violet had just about enough. "Are you just going to berate me the whole time we're here?"
She was tired and the stress of everything that happened was making her a bit testy.
No answer came before Green scoffed. "Whatever." He said looking away.
Once more silence surrounded them as both trainers refused to look at each other, ignoring the sounds of the wind howling outside.
Eventually however, Violet looked down. "Sorry."
The unexpected apology caused Green to give her a curious look while she pulled her hat down to hide her eyes.
"It's my fault that we're stuck here." She said in a low tone.
"Tch do you really think that?" Green asked in disbelief.
"Team Rocket attacked the ship to kill me." Violet pointed out given how the Executive made it very clear he wanted her dead.
All because of what happened in Mt. Moon and most likely because of that incident in Cerulean City.
Everything that happened on that ship was on her.
"You're a bigger idiot than I thought you were." Green scoffed, earning a scandalized look.
He then leveled a look at her.
"You didn't attack that ship, Team Rocket did, plain and simple." Green felt like this was a waste of time trying to tell her something that should be freaking obvious. "Instead of wallowing about it, at least try to do something about it."
The scandalized look turned into another glare. "And what exactly do you expect for me to do?!" Violet asked, not understanding Green at the moment.
"For the love of-Just get stronger!" Green finally snapped at having to literally spell it out, a confused look crossing Violet's face. "They already showed how far they're willing to go to kill you."
And once they make it off Seafoam Island it would be apparent that they failed to do so and there was no doubt in Green's mind that they'll try again.
"You can either wallow and wait for them to find you while you're still weak or you can get stronger to avoid this happening again."
Green didn't care how harsh he was being right now. They had little time to waste at the moment.
Checking the heater to ensure that it wouldn't go out while they slept, Green looked to the side showing that he had no desire to continue this conversation while Violet hesitated before leaning back, lost in thought.
"Sir, we've arrived." A Rocket Grunt said as Surge walked out of the submarine, making land on Seafoam Island with the blizzard howling in the middle of the night.
He only had a small group of Grunts with him now considering how many were taken down on the SS. Anne but Surge wasn't that bothered by it.
The ones that were captured had a psychic block that prevented them from giving out any secrets to their plans.
However due to having to sacrifice his Electabuzz to take down Will, Surge was no fool in thinking that the League would definitely have him being a suspect considering everything that happened.
But they had a contingency plan for that.
All that mattered right now was the mission.
"Spread out in groups of two and search this area, you see anything out of place you check it." Surge ordered, giving them a harsh look. "You find our target and you radio it in, do not engage under any circumstance."
He wasn't that much of a fool to think that the Grunts would be able to handle something like Articuno.
Hell in a straight up fight there was no doubt that Articuno would easily be able to beat him just like how it could easily defeat the Elite Four despite their years of experience and power which was why these Legendary Pokemon were absolutely vital for what was coming.
Everything depends on him catching the Legendary off guard.
Seeing the men leave, Surge checked over his Pokeballs, only to still at the obvious one missing as memories of meeting Electabuzz went through his mind before he squashed it down.
There was a time and place for sentiment and this wasn't either.
Unknown to him however, Surge walked right by the small cave that Violet and Green hid in, the blocked entrance completely covered by snow.
Violet blinked drowsily as Green shook her awake, hours after their talk. "Wha?" She muttered, trying to wake up.
"Come on, I think the blizzard died down," Green said, sending Raticate and Sandshrew out to dig their exit. "If we're leaving now is our chance."
Giving a nod, Violet straightened her hat and stood up, ignoring the aching in her body from how they slept.
They both stopped however as Raticate began to snarl, glaring at the makeshift entrance that they did have.
That was enough for both of them to be wary.
So Violet sent Parasite out and kept a hand on Stinger's Pokeball while Green did the same with Eevee's Pokeball considering he had two Pokemon out already.
"Parasite, get ready to use Stun Spore." Violet whispered to the bug right as Green's Pokemon quickly dug their way out, the snow falling in much to their annoyance while the sunlight blinded them momentarily.
Eventually their eyes got used to the light as they climbed out only to be greeted by a submarine of all things.
While elated at first, Violet's small amount of relief faded when she saw the red 'R' on the side signifying who owned the vehicle.
Green cursed when he saw that. "How did they know we were here?!" He asked, looking around to make sure no one saw them leave.
There's no way for Team Rocket to know they were on Seafoam… Right?
Unless they were here for something else.
Whatever it was they weren't sticking around to find out, they needed to get out of there before anyone found them.
"Wait." Violet said right before Green went to send Cloyster out, making him turn to give her an annoyed look.
"What?!"
If she even suggests they investigate why they were here he will knock her out himself.
"What if we sabotage the submarine and strand them here?" Violet suggested, a look of surprise spreading across his face. "That way we can call the authorities to get them?"
That wasn't a bad idea.
But there was one problem.
"Submarines were built to withstand damage caused by a Gyarados, I doubt we have anything that comes close to that right now." Green poked a hole in that plan with Violet wincing. "Not without going inside to tamper with it, but we'll risk running into Rockets if we did that."
And considering their Executive has Pokemon that can Teleport that wasn't ideal.
"Come on, we need to go before we're seen." Green said, returning his two Pokemon while gripping Cloyster's Pokeball.
Violet gave a nod and returned Parasite.
Sending out Cloyster, Green was unprepared when the Pokemon went feral much to his surprise, barely missing a Tackle that would've stabbed him with one of the spikes.
"Cloyster?!" Green shouted in shock, quickly returning her.
Violet stared, not expecting that. "Did her evolution do something to her?"
"No, if that was the case she would've attacked instead of ferrying us this far." Green quickly shot down that theory, trying to come up with an explanation on why his Pokemon did that.
It wasn't normal.
But the situation just got worse.
They were stuck here with Team Rocket with no way off unless he gets his Magikarp to evolve and he really doubted it would fare much better given the temperament of a Gyarados that he knew he wouldn't be able to handle right now. Pidgeotto wasn't big enough to carry both of them and he didn't have Kadabra with him, so Teleport was out of the question.
Adding onto that, all of their Pokemon were still tired and injured from the fight with the Executive-tch he couldn't even call it a fight considering how the man completely destroyed them both.
Violet fidgeted, seemingly coming to the same conclusion as he did, glancing around to make sure that no one from Team Rocket was around.
"We need to move, if we stay out in the open Team Rocket will definitely find us." Green took the lead quite easily as he moved. "If we're lucky we can find another way off."
In fact, if he catches a Pokemon here he could send it to Prof. Oak, letting the man narrow down their location because his Gramps has to have heard about what happened by now.
Violet quickly followed after him, keeping her Pokemon in their Pokeballs, not wanting them to suffer the cold, hugging her arms to keep warm.
Note to self, buy a coat once she gets to the next city.
And a pair of pants.
Unknown to them however, one of the Rocket Grunts saw them as he was coming back to the submarine and began to radio in.
"Damn, we just missed it." Surge muttered as they were in the depths of the cave where the temperatures were well below freezing.
The cold was biting, even with their uniforms that were specifically tailored for the cold.
"Should we call this mission a failure?" One of the Grunts asked in a hopeful tone, wanting to get back to the warm submarine.
Surge however shook his head. "No, just because Articuno isn't in this room doesn't mean it's not on the island."
After all there was a lull in the blizzard, it's not completely gone and the Pokemon here are feral and much more powerful then they usually are.
Blaine theorized that it was because of the energy a Legendary Pokemon can give out when they're in the area, with Articuno being an ice type, the energy it gives out amplifies the power of other ice types.
Just like how Moltres and Zapdos do the same for fire and electric types respectively.
If they can just harness that type of power-.
Hearing his com link go off, Surge pressed it. "What is it?"
"Sir, we might have a problem."
Not liking that, Surge frowned. "Well? What is it?"
"The target from the SS. Anne is still alive."
Hearing that made Surge stiffen up.
No, there was no way for that kid to be alive.
He electrocuted her enough to ensure she would've been paralyzed long enough to drown, same thing with that other kid.
All of their Pokemon were unconscious and none of them even had a water Pokemon-.
Just like that Surge remembered the Shellder that he knocked overboard, the only Pokemon one of those kids owned that wasn't returned.
But that didn't make any sense, there was no way for a Shellder to be able to carry both of them.
It would've sunk even if it only carried one of them.
"Was she alone?"
"No sir, she's with that kid that fought alongside her."
Hm, that meant that either that other kid had another water Pokemon he didn't send out, or his Shellder evolved.
He wasn't sure which one it was but right now he didn't care.
"Follow them, don't let them see you." Surge ordered in a dark tone.
Articuno was still the prime target, but he wasn't going to let those kids leave this Island.
But he has to say, despite his annoyance of the situation his respect for them has gone up. Not a lot of people survive when he gets involved.
Violet sneezed again as they continued their trek through Seafoam Island, hugging her arms to try and keep herself warm.
"I swear if we get caught because you sneezed." Green grumbled in annoyance, leaving for Violet to stick her tongue out at him in an immature fashion.
They were really starting to grate on each other's nerves.
The constant cold didn't help matters at all.
Once more she sneezed and Green sighed before throwing his jacket at her, making her cry out in surprise.
"Put it on." He said, not caring if he had a short sleeved shirt on.
At least he had pants compared to her shorts.
Hesitating a bit, Violet did so and was happy at having some warmth.
Sure it was cold, but this was better than before.
She'll definitely be buying winter clothes after this.
"Thank you." Violet didn't want to sound ungrateful.
"Tch, whatever." Green said in his usual fashion, not even looking her way.
Watching him walk off, Violet followed him, taking the time to look at the scenery around them.
Everything was ice and snow, but it was more than that.
There looked to be flowers made completely out of ice, giving the island a bit of an aesthetic feel to it.
Green saw them and frowned, finding that a bit odd.
But it could be a wild ice Pokemon making them.
That was when he stopped, nearly making Violet walk into him with her barely stopping in time.
"What is it?" Violet asked, finding that strange as Green looked around cautiously.
"Listen."
Tilting her head, Violet did so, hearing only the howling winds that were normal to the island. "I don't hear anything."
"Exactly, where are the wild Pokemon?" Green asked the question making Violet's eyes widen in realization.
"You don't think Team Rocket were behind it do you?"
"They could be, but I doubt it." Green had a hand on Eevee's Pokeball with a frown. "As dangerous as they are, the Ice Pokemon here are said to be powerful, there's no way they could take them down unless all of them were like that Executive."
They haven't run into any Team Rocket members either and he didn't like that.
Not that he was complaining, but he didn't like not seeing them more.
They could just be in the Caverns rather than on the island… Perhaps it has something to do with the intense blizzards that happen once a year here?
Was it being caused by a powerful Pokemon?
"Come on, we should keep moving."
Giving a nod, Violet followed after him as they kept waking in silence with her wanting to say something to avoid it being silent but felt like now wasn't the best time.
Then again, when wasnt there a good time with them?
Reaching up to readjust her hat, the two found themselves in a rather large area surrounded by snow filled cliffs.
There was even some ice on the walls, acting as mirrors, but the thing that caught their attention was the giant block of ice at the end of the room, a large shadow seemed to be inside of it, but they couldn't make out what it was.
Green frowned and aimed his Pokedex at it and they were surprised by what it said.
"Articuno, the Freeze Pokemon. A Legendary Bird that can control ice and create blizzards with its presence alone. The passive one of the Bird Trio, Articuno will hide itself when it detects danger. Current Level is-error-error unable to determine level. Gender is error-error."
Despite the Pokedex doing that, both Violet and Green were floored by what this was.
An Articuno.
Legendary Pokemon were-well Legendary. Completely powerful, very rare and hard to find.
Violet was amazed as this was the second one she's seen.
"Huh, now that's an interesting device you have." Both of them spun around to see the Executive who stood on top of one of the cliffs, giving them a dark grin as various Team Rocket Grunts could be seen. "I'll have to take one of them back to HQ to get it looked at. Not only that but you found our target, we owe you."
Green took a step back, grabbing Eevee's Pokeball despite knowing it was hopeless as there were too many and they were outmatched.
Violet felt her throat go dry, grabbing Stinger's Pokeball.
There was no way they could win.
But Team Rocket was after Articuno, just like how they were after Mew.
No surprise given how strong Legendaries were, but Violet was scared because she knew they couldn't let them get this Pokemon.
So she got to work and sent out all three of her Pokemon. "Parasite, Quicksand! Stinger, String Shot as many Grunts as you can! Silk, Esper Spore on everyone!"
Green seemed to have moved at the same time, sending everyone out. "Pidgeotto, Eevee, use Sand Attack to give us cover. Sandshrew, help Parasect out. Raticate, Bubblebeam!"
He figured the blizzard would freeze the Bubblebeam, turning it into hail and give Team Rocket a bit of trouble.
But they were just as fast, sending out their Pokemon as Zubats, Golbats, Ekans, Arboks, Koffing and Weezings erupted onto the scene, though the Executive didn't send any of his out, instead keeping his focus on the Legendary.
Especially when he saw the shape shift inside the ice.
Articuno was well aware of what was going on, but it seemed to be lying in wait. Was it because of the kids in front of it?
That was something he could use to his advantage.
So he turned his attention back to the kids, seeing that they were actually working well together against the Grunts. Using status conditions to take a few of them down and even use moves such as Sand Attack to blind them, String Shot to bind them together and that damned Parasect was making the ground beneath the grunts fall along with that Sandshrew learning from her.
By doing that they were leaving the Pokemon that belonged to the Grunts without orders as they weren't trained to fight by themselves, making them easier to defeat.
It was infuriating on how two ten year olds were outsmarting these Grunts who are years older and much more experienced.
It was also baffling because he's seen these grunts take down other trainers with ease due to some of the training he had a hand in, so either they were truly underestimating these kids or they were prodigies.
He was leaning towards the latter given how he knows the boy is an Oak.
Having enough, he sent his Magneton out and called for a Thunderbolt, aiming right at Violet.
This time he wasn't going to paralyze her, cursing himself for making a mistake like that the last time, he was going to kill her through electrocution.
As the electricity surged towards the girl who looked up, seeing it come, but having no time to dodge it, he saw the fear in her eyes.
And that was when it happened.
The ice containing Articuno exploded as the Legendary fired an Ice Beam that slammed into the Thunderbolt, obliterating it with the Executive forcing his Magneton to teleport them out of the way, going into hiding to avoid being targeted.
That just proved his earlier theory right.
Articuno was rumored to be the most gentle hearted of the birds, so if any of them were to put their life on the line for an innocent it would be this one.
And given how easily it tore through his Magneton's thunderbolt, the Executive knew his suspicion about not standing a chance was right.
So he had to be smart on how he did this.
Articuno however wasn't finished and turned its attention towards the Grunts who panicked as they were all frozen into statues in an instant with a flap of its wings, their Pokemon following suit just as easily.
Seeing that made Green and Violet take a step back as even if the attack wasn't aimed anywhere close to them, the cold and wind from it still hit as they were in shock at seeing firsthand how powerful a legendary could be.
The same could be said about their Pokemon who could feel the power emanating from Articuno, looking absolutely floored by the severe difference in power.
Articuno then fired another Ice Beam towards where the Executive was forcing him to teleport again, reaching into his pocket to pull out another syringe.
It was his last one of the serum that Team Rocket was developing and he knew that his only chance at winning this was to inject something.
At first he was thinking of using one of the Pokemon belonging to those kids, but knew he couldn't get close to do that without Articuno taking him down.
Needing to buy himself time, the Executive threw out two Electrodes, making them appear in the air where the cliffs were, having them self-destruct, causing an avalanche to start.
Just like he predicted, Articuno abandoned looking for him to save the kids, using its wings to shield them and their Pokemon from the snow.
It gave the Executive enough time to run into the nearby cave where he knew some wild Pokemon were and he saw a Tentacool one of the pools of water that lead to the Ocean.
'Perfect.' The Executive smirked, approaching the Pokemon with the serum.
Once the avalanche stopped, Articuno unfurled its wings, blasting the snow away as it gazed down at the two children who stared up at it in awe.
"Incredible." Violet whispered.
Green was silent but he agreed, never seeing power like this before and he's seen his Grandfather's championship team.
They paled in comparison to Articuno who barely gave any effort in this situation.
But the awe turned into wariness as Green looked around. "He's gone." He muttered, feeling a bit of relief.
If Articuno wasn't here, there's no doubt in Green's mind that they would've been killed.
The relief disappeared as an inhuman roar sounded from nearby, the sound making Articuno tense as it looked towards the nearby cave with a narrowed eyed look.
Then the same roar sounded from behind them, beyond the cliffs right as a black tentacle slammed into it, destroying it, revealing a giant Tentacruel that looked as if it was in a crazed frenzy.
Green and Violet tensed up, recognizing that look as their minds flashed back to the day they met in Viridian Forest. Well that and the shock at seeing a Tentacruel taller than buildings one would see in Saffron City.
Articuno wasted no time in unleashing a Blizzard that made the giant Tentacruel stumble but it powered through and shot a Hydro Pump that slammed into Articuno, making it shriek in pained surprise.
It actually hurt the Legendary.
Now deeming the Tentacruel to be a danger, Articuno unleashed Mist to hide not only itself, but also the kids before taking flight, causing another snow storm in the process.
"Now where were we?" The Executives voice spoke up, but neither Violet nor Green could see him before the bug catcher looked up to see the man standing in the air, surrounded by four Magnetons that were creating an energy field due to their magnetic energy.
Green actually looked surprised, not knowing Magnetons could do that.
"Thunder." The Executive ordered as one of his Magnetons broke away from the group leaving three to keep him in the air as it unleashed a blast towards the two who quickly got out of the way, Green's Sandshrew jumping to take the blast, not being affected.
"Whirlwind." Green tried to order with his Pidgeotto, but the Magnetons unleashed a screech that negated it.
"Nice try kid, but that's not going to work a second time." The Executive tutted, a grin on his face. "Tri Attack."
The Magneton then fired the elemental attack at Sandshrew, taking it out of the fight with very serious injuries that forced Green to return him, leaving him with only three Pokemon.
While he did that, the Executive suddenly disappeared, leaving the two to wonder where he was only for Stinger to go into a frenzy, shooting forward to block a knife that nearly hit Violet from behind, using his stinger to protect her, catching her off guard right as the Magnetons unleashed another screech that sent them back.
Green quickly had his Eevee and Pidgeotto fire off another Sand Attack and Violet followed suit with Silk using Gust on it, creating a sand twister that forced the Executive on the defensive.
They were doing much better this time, the snow storm giving them a lot of cover.
"We can't keep this up forever." Green muttered, knowing that it was only luck that they've lasted for so long.
But he didn't see how they would be able to win with Articuno busy giving the roars that were sounding throughout the blizzard.
And even if they do beat the Magneton, this Executive would've had three more to send out.
Still that was all he had, the two Electrodes were unconscious and these four would make six, but that doesn't take into account the Electabuzz that the saw on the ship.
Why didn't he send it out?
Violet looked around before thinking about something.
"I have a plan." She said getting Green's attention. "Parasite, start using Bide. Stinger, use Twineedle on Parasite."
A bit caught off guard, Stinger followed a second later while Parasite began to use it immediately.
Green caught onto what Violet was doing and he had to say, that was clever.
"Can you have your Raticate use Bubblebeam to heal Parasite up?" Violet requested as she knew they needed to build up a lot of energy if they wanted this to work.
And for that, they needed to keep Parasite's health up.
Green smirked.
While this type of technique wouldn't work in an official battle, it would easily disqualify a person should they try it like this, in a life or death situation it was ingenious.
The Executive cursed as he had to shield his face to keep sand out of his eyes, hating at how long this was taking.
He didn't know how long that Tentacruel would last against Articuno, he certainly wasn't expecting for it to be a giant after all. Heck he wasn't expecting for it to do much damage against Articuno showing that if they did fully perfect the serum they would be unstoppable.
Still it should weaken it enough for capture, but he wanted to kill these damn brats before that happened.
It took a bit, but eventually he found them, though he arched a brow as it looked like they were attacking their own Pokemon.
Why in the world would they do that?
Despite being cautious, the Executive wasn't taking any chances. "Thunderbolt!" He ordered, taking care to get rid of the Pidgeotto and Butterfree to avoid them using that sand twister combination.
As they went down, Violet smirked. "Now Parasite, Bide!"
Just like that it clicked as the Executive wasn't able to call a Teleport in time, being too close to react, instead his Magneton's coming together to shield him from the huge blast that sent him flying back despite his Pokemons protection, skidding across the snow before coming to a stop as all of his Pokemon were out.
It also had the added effect of blasting his mask off, showing his face to the kids who froze in shock.
"Surge?" Violet asked in disbelief, not expecting the Vermillion Gym Leader to be a part of Team Rocket as the man forced himself to his feet.
Seeing that, Green got over his shock and glared. "Don't try anything, you don't have any more Pokemon." He warned, his Eevee and Raticate getting ready to attack while Stinger and Parasite, tensed up.
Surge just grinned. "Have to say you runts are impressive, both of you would've made great additions to Team Rocket."
"Like we'd ever join." Violet snapped at him, being reminded of the other Executives offer at Mt. Moon. "After everything you guys do?!"
"Must be nice looking down on others with that simple view of yours." Surge sneered at the kid. "Not everything is as black and white as you think."
"Save it, you can tell all of that to the Police." Green told him, ready to have him knocked out.
"That's cute, you think you've won." Surge said, getting ready. "Just because I don't have any Pokemon doesn't make me defenseless."
He then glanced up with a smirk, causing the two to glance up in time to see Articuno finally beat the Tentacruel, the serum finally taking its toll on the Giant Pokemon, but it looked very injured, panting from exhaustion, never having to exert itself in such a way for a long time.
Seeing as how this was his chance, Surge pulled out a modified Ultra Ball and threw it with pinpoint accuracy at the Articuno, catching it off guard as it was sucked in.
Eyes widening, Violet sent Stinger to destroy the ball and free Articuno but much to their surprise, Surge unveiled a seventh Pokemon, being his Raichu, a different one from his Gym battle as it blasted Stinger back, giving the Ultra Ball enough time to click, confirming the capture.
"You really think that we would limit ourselves to only carrying six Pokemon?" Surge asked in a mocking tone, picking up the captured Articuno, his Raichu giving a dark grin as the two kids were horrified at what just happened. "You might've won the battle earlier, but I'm winning the war."
Green cursed himself for not thinking about that.
Of course Team Rocket being criminals wouldn't care about the only carrying six Pokemon rule that was in place, they break laws all the time, so why wouldn't that be any different?
"Hyper Beam." Another voice called out, catching them all off guard as a beam of pure energy slammed into the Raichu, making them look up on the remnants of the cliff to see a Gyarados, the blue serpent Pokemon, snarling at Surge.
Standing next to the Gyarados, with an Exeggutor, an armless Pokemon whose body resembled a palm tree, three yellow coconut like faces glaring alongside the Gyarados despite the different facial expressions each head showed however was Professor Oak who had a furious look on his face as he had another Pokeball that was primed and ready to go.
An ancient one compared to the Pokeballs of today.
"To think you're a part of Team Rocket." Professor Oak said to Surge who took a step back, now knowing he couldn't win.
Because those two Pokemon that Oak had out were a part of his Champion team and he had no doubt that Oak had the rest of his Champion team with him. Even if they're well past their prime they were still powerful.
And even if he had Articuno now, the Legendary was still too powerful for him to command at this moment, not to mention injured.
"Gramps?!" Green called out in surprise, allowing for Oak to look at him, the fury softening a bit.
"It's a relief to see you two alive." He said in a warm tone before glaring at Surge. "You have nowhere to go, Surge, it would be wise for you to surrender."
Surge gritted his teeth before he felt the air shift behind him as he saw Oak tense up and he knew what that meant.
"About time you showed up." Surge glanced back at the last Executive who was levitating in the air, wearing the standard Rocket uniform that hugged her body, a helmet covering her face and hiding any feature that could give away who she was.
"I trust that your mission was a success?" The woman asked, her voice synthesized to further hide her identity, looking at the three trainers who remained.
To answer her, Surge held up the ball that contained Articuno.
"Good, this might redeem how you disobeyed your orders, the boss wants to have a word with you about your attack on the SS. Anne." The woman said in a dangerous tone that wiped the smirk off of Surge's face.
Surge figured he would face consequences, but it didn't matter.
He did what he thought was the right call, even if it didn't work out he still completed his mission.
"Exeggutor, Barrage! Gyarados, Hydro Pump!" Oak ordered, trying to stop them, but the woman teleported herself and Surge out of there. "Damnit."
Taking a deep breath to calm his anger at letting them get away, Professor Oak made his way towards his Grandson and Violet to make sure they were okay, seeing Violet collapse in relief at how close that was while Green gritted his teeth.
"Do either of you have any injuries?" Oak asked looking them over, seeing some slight burns that showed some electrocution, along with how the cold was affecting them.
If they spent too much time here they might get frostbite.
"How did you find us, Gramps?" Green asked, ignoring that other question showing that he was fine, allowing for Oak to have some peace of mind.
"The Pokedex is still connected to my lab, I used that to narrow down your location." The Professor answered with a smile. "I had to let Exeggutor rest between teleports though, he's not as spry as he used to be."
He then sneezed as the cold was making his joints ache.
"Neither am I for that matter."
Violet still hasn't said anything and that worried Oak as he turned towards her, seeing Stinger and Parasite, close to her.
"Violet?" Professor Oak placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"Team Rocket, they captured Articuno." Violet managed to get out, surprising Professor Oak as he didn't know the Legendary was involved.
But he refrained from cursing at how bad this situation got.
If Team Rocket had a Legendary the Elite Four needed to be notified.
But right now, he needed to get these kids out of here.
"Exeggutor, teleport us to Cinnabar." Prof. Oak ordered knowing that his Pokemon would need to rest for a little bit before they teleport back to Pallet Town.
The rest can come once the kids are safe.

Phew this one took forever, mostly because it would be the chapter that would finally introduce a Legendary, and frankly I think I might've screwed that one up.
Articuno is powerful, but the birds aren't god-like. In fact, up until Hoenn none of the Legendaries were too powerful for people, lore wise that is. Starting with Hoenn you had the weather trio and then in Sinnoh you had god-like Legendaries who can control space and time.
So compared to them the Birds aren't as powerful, though they can still mess someone up if they have to such as Articuno easily taking down the various Team Rocket Grunts in this chapter, it could've easily taken down Surge if he didn't have the Serum that's been a crucial part of this story. Especially when he used it on the Tentacool, forcing it to evolve into the Tentacruel that appeared in the Anime-I think it was in one of the banned episodes.
Then you have both Green and Violet surviving Seafoam Island and I don't know a damn thing about survival, especially in blizzards so I most likely screwed that one up too.
I've been rewriting this chapter over and over again, trying to make it work without ruining the story, it was enough that I went back to reread the Manga only to see how they handled Articuno and I realized I probably had nothing to worry about on that front. I also did some work on earlier chapters, I didn't change anything related to the story, just some very small stuff that's probably not noticeable. Like taking out the reference to HM's in the last chapter, I can't believe I tried to make sense of that.
Anyways who expected for Surge to actually succeed in capturing Articuno? Or for the giant Tentacruel to appear? I figured with the serum it would make more sense then in the Anime-I can't even remember how it appeared in the Anime I"ll have to check again.
Then we have Violet and Green actually beating four of Surge's Magnetons in a battle, using tactics that wouldn't fly in a tournament but outside of one anything goes, I figured it would be a smart way to show how Bide could be utilized in life or death situations and frankly it was the only way they could've won at that moment.
Most likely wouldn't work a second time because Surge now knows about that move but hey it did work.
I don't know how everyone will take this chapter, if they'll like it or not but I put it off long enough, so here's hoping its good, if it isn't I'll try to rework it.
But enough on that, this story is over 100,000 words! That's an accomplishment for me.
And now the next chapter will be them resting up and then the normal journey continuing.
Alright let's get the reviews out of the way so I can post this, hopefully I won't take as long in the next chapter.
Starlord Master: Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Guest11: I don't know when I plan to update Xenoverse Justice, I've been having trouble typing that particular one.
Pokemonking0924: Heh thank you and sorry for the wait. Yeah Green and Violet are alright and Surge is now revealed to be a member of Team Rocket so the League will be after him now, in a way that's him getting what's coming to him.
Zapking5: Thank you and I appreciate the feedback, but I'm trying to have those utility moves work in the story because they're rarely used in fanfics, and they were used in the Anime a bit such as Iris Emolga using Volt Switch. As for Will not using more than two Pokemon, they were inside of a ship hallway with limited space, though I should've put that in the chapter itself that's on me. Okay yea you have a point with Surge's gun, which was why I took it out. I was in a hurry and I wanted to try and have an actual weapon in the story which was stupid of me, I only realized how stupid it was while I was at work and then a storm took out the power leaving me unable to change it for a bit, your review further pointed out how stupid that move was so thank you. Though the throwing the heroes off a cliff thing was an actual move Surge pulled in the Manga where he electrocuted Red to the point of unconsciousness and threw him overboard along with his Poliwhirl, though unlucky for Surge there happened to be a water stone down there which evolved the Poliwhirl, which I referenced in these last two chapters, especially with having Shellder evolve into Cloyster. Yea I figured having the electricity countering psychic would be interesting and give them a bit of a nerf given how god like Psychics are in the Gen 1 Games.
Legion29: Heh thank you and hopefully you liked how they survived that only to get into a bigger mess with this chapter.
Flyg0n: Thank you, I've had a lot of fun typing this fanfic over the last year and I didn't want to do another Ash/Red fic which I did try at first before I decided to challenge myself and do a bug only playthrough on my Fire Red game which sparked the beginning of this story. And you're right any Pokemon can be strong given the right strategy and moveset and I figured adding some game mechanics would make the story a bit interesting.
Number13teen: I know what you mean but I had to take a step back from this fic for the last few months considering I was feeling rather burnt out after a year of updating it, so sorry for the wait. And you're right it's much more difficult to fight on the ship given how everything was, that was the reason I had Green swap out his Kadabra, otherwise he could've used it to teleport him and Violet out of there. I did actually think about killing his Raticate off to match the 'theory' but after a bit I decided not to. They've already been through enough to have something like that happen. Clearly something is in the water in Kanto, I mean come on, the amount of Pokemon that can teleport when they shouldn't be able to, how have they not taken advantage of that in the Anime?! Anyways I hope you enjoyed how I had this chapter go.
Rockadoodle88: Thank you and I know what you mean, the long sentences are what gives me the most trouble, but I'm trying to work on that.
Fiqacomel: Oh she'll definitely be getting a new team member before the next gym.
TheDivineDemon: Thank you, as much as I love Ash as a character, it's more refreshing to do something different for a fic and I always felt that a monotype bug fic would be an interesting read.
