AUTHOR'S NOTE: Hey everyone and welcome to my story which I've been writing for a while but unfortunately too lazy to publish till now. The story is Closer to the Hart, it took me a whole minute to come up with that title. Yes, you have the right to be impressed... or not, I mean...

So, this is my first official book on and I would really appreciate it if you guys could read this book as I worked really hard on it and also comment on it as I wanna find out ways to improve on my writing skills. Have fun everyone and let's get on with the story.

WARNING: This story may contain triggering scenes and strong language not meant for all audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. (I love to get that outta the way)

DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of these characters except my OC Kendra and other OC's I might have forgotten to mention. This story is a pure work of fiction (hence its written on) and most of the events and facts are completely made up so... I guess that's it.

A Little Extended Summary Of The Book.

It was no secret, hell it was so well known that a blind man from Australia could tell you... there might be a bit of exaggeration there but you get the gist. The blind man could be from any country too. That just shows how much this wasn't a secret. But that's besides the point.

It was no secret that Bret 'Hitman' Hart and the 'Heart Break Kid' Shawn Michaels were bitter rivals at the prime of their successful careers. It's a tale as old as time. Many of us seem to have varying or similar knowledge and ideas of what went down, who was at fault and many things that occurred during that period.

But has anyone ever sat down to ask why? What was the cause of this feud? What happened that made two grown professional men loathe each other like that? What happened behind the scenes, that was withheld from the world because they knew that if the secret got out it could tear apart the fabric of the universe? Will Bret Hart ever cut his hair?

Many people assume this rivalry was a result of clashing egos, Vince McMahon, backstage politics, Vince McMahon, contrasting backgrounds, Vince McMahon, etc. And you'd be right cause a lot of shit went down during that period. But I'd like to break it down for you and let you see that indeed, this ranting isn't the work of a crazy person. No. This rant is leading somewhere. The secret that was hidden from you all even before most of us were born (including me, the author I'm a 2000's baby). The Truth. One important aspect of the Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels rivalry that is never mentioned in the history books, it all boils down to...

A woman. A female. A girl. A femme fatale. Whatever you wanna call her. (Not Sunny, don't worry)

And what follows next is the beginning of the secret that has been hidden from you all. The story.

Her story.

Right here.

Now.

The tale.

And if you made it this far without rolling your eyes, face palming or just clicking away and blocking me forever. Congrats.

I present the story which is pin pointed to have started on a night, like any other night...

Chapter 1: Storm From The East

"...okay I have just about had it with Hogan and his big ego thinking he owns the place and whatnot." 'Mr. Perfect' Curt Hennig yapped on to Kendra who was busy typing on her laptop as he watched Monday Nitro.

"He kinda does though Curt, he is the one who brought wrestling up from the slumps in a watery grave and brought it up to greater heights, single handedly achieving one of the greatest feats known to mankind" Kendra finished off leaving Curt with a dazed and confused look on his face as he seemed to be checking if she was showing symptoms of the Hanta virus with his eyes. "What? It's actually his words not mine, he made me memorize every line so yes I have to learn it word for word, not like its everyday I get to give a big speech or anything"

"You're a weird one alright. You're both weird" Curt said with a shudder as he pulled out a cold can of soda from his locker room mini fridge. "Want one honey?"

"Sure, its definitely what I need now" Kendra said as she finally finished her work on her laptop.

"Okay, coming right up" He said throwing one to her which she caught with ease and gave him a sly smirk. "What a showoff" Curt said playfully rolling his eyes.

"Wait, is the great MR. PERFECT of all people calling me a showoff, really?" She asked amused.

"Yeah, what you gonna do about it?" Curt asked and even cut her off before she could get a word in "Nothing. And for the record I don't show off. I live a perfect life, so everything I do is just part of the perfect lifestyle"

"I hate you, just wanna put that out there"

"Now's not the time for negativity sweetheart, now's the time to write notes. And maybe, just maybe you'd be almost as perfect as moi." Curt said as he spat out his gum and did his famous 'Gum slap'.

"Is that really why you're always chewing gum?" Kendra asked with a raised eyebrow.

"It's part of the perfect life"

"Well, good luck with that." She said as she finished drinking her can of soda. "I need to go meet Russo and show him some drafts, the joy" She said as she rolled her eyes.

"Ugh, what a mood killer. You know he's just gonna take credit for all your ideas, once again."

"Such is life, what can I do? I've gotta pay my dues and it'll work out someday"

"Amen to that. But you know, anytime you need a shoulder to cry on you can always come here. To me, your sexy best friend" Curt said while she packed up her laptop.

"Yeah, you're my best friend" She said with a giggle purposely leaving out the 'sexy part'

"And I'm sexy too right" Curt said with expectant eyes as she made her way to exit the room. "Right?" He asked once again as she shut the door. "What a bitch"

"I heard that! No more hugs from me" She screamed from outside the door. Curt let out a loud 'NOOOOOOO' which made her giggle and shake her head as she made her way to visit an asshole of a man who went by the name Vince Russo.

Kendra worked as an intern for the WWF creative team or as Curt would put it, Vince Russo's glorified assistant and idea factory. She entered the world of WWF over a month prior still fresh from college at the tender age of twenty two. She settled in nicely, minded her business and made some friends along the way including her self proclaimed best friend in the whole wide world Curt Hennig. Everything was just normal, yes normal.

But things change...

"...so, we should put Steve Austin as the King of the Ring winner, you say?" Vince Russo asked reclining on his chair.

"Well, yeah. I mean he already has a good following and people love him. He's also an incredibly good worker, you could strike gold. Plus maybe a promo after the event will really set him in tune" Kendra said biting her lip indicating nervousness.

"Hmm, maybe. But its too much of a risk and the idea looks a bit sloppy to execute. Keep trying Kenny I know you can do better." She tried not to wince at the name Kenny. For as long as she could remember she absolutely hated that name.

"Okay, I will think of something else" She said trying to suppress her sadness.

"That's the spirit girl. Hey, while you're at it, how about you go grab me a cup of coffee." He said with a smile as she nodded and left his office. She stood outside the door for a few seconds waiting to hear the familiar statement.

"Hey, Mr. McMahon, yeah it's me. Guess what I have the best idea. King of the Ring. Austin. Big push... Yeah, genius right... I came up with it all by myself... Yeah, I know... Thank you so much... Yeah, too much money..." She rolled her eyes. Yet another good idea stolen. Damn you Russo.

She hated this. She hated him. She felt she deserved the credit, intern or no intern. Sadly, the WWF didn't run like that. And additionally, Russo's brain didn't run at all.

"What has you looking so worked up?" Sable asked her as she prepared Vince Russo's coffee. "Oh wait, I know that look. Russo at it again huh?"

"What gave it away?"

"You always have this stoic expression on you face whenever you finish having a conversation with him. Go figure" Sable analyzed.

"Well, you don't miss a beat, do you?"

"Damn right. If I were you I'd teach that jackass a lesson, know what I"m saying. Sabotage" Sable said getting an evil gleam in her eyes which made Kendra shake her head though amused. "What are you laughing at Kendra, I'm being serious."

"And I'm not saying you aren't, I mean that may work, but I won't be justified, hell I might even lose my job cause right now I'm dispensable. Sabotage, if necessary will be done at a later date" Kendra said stirring the cup. "But good initiative"

"Thanks, but even if you doing the 'I wanna be the bigger person' the least you can do is spit in his coffee. That's just karma right there" Sable said as they both laughed. "I'm serious"

"I guess I would have if I was still pissed but my mood is lightened now. Remind me tomorrow" She said as she finished making the coffee. "But on second thought, why the hell not? The jackass has it coming" She said taking off the cover of the coffee. She couldn't have been to fast as before she could even gather up spit, she collided with someone spilling the coffee all over herself and the other person.

"Oh my God! I'm so sorry. it was an accident and..." She was cut off by the angry wrestler who didn't appreciate HOT coffee being spilled all over him.

"Save it. Can't you do anything right? God!" He yelled. Kendra felt out of place and embarrassed because a lot of people were staring and making comments. "Why was the lid even off?"

"Listen, I'm sorry Bret, I..." She handed him a towel but was once again cut off by Bret who was still fuming.

"Zip it!" He told her as he snatched the towel from her hand and used it to clean off all the coffee that spilled on him. "Unbelievable"

"Bret maybe you should calm down a little it was a mistake after all" Sable said trying to ease off Bret's anger and also trying to help Kendra clean up the coffee which poured on her.

"Well, it was a pretty foolish one to make, she should know better" Bret continued as Kendra sighed. 'Foolish? Bite your tongue, Kendra. Bite your tongue' She thought to herself.

"Bret, Bret, Bret, picking on girls now. Don't you have more important things to do like you know, thinking of how to win this back?" Shawn Michaels said propping the WWF title on his shoulder. "Are you alright sweetheart?"

"Hey Michaels, why don't you mind your business. Keep that big smelly mouth of yours shut and skedaddle" Bret said doing the walking away motion with his hands.

"That's rich coming from the man who's obviously going through a nasty midlife crisis and resulted to taking it out on innocent girls. So no, Bret I'm not going to skedaddle. How about you skedaddle and I be a REAL man and help the lady out"

"Shit's about to go down Kendra, do something" Sable whispered to her.

"Like? I'm already a gossip topic because of the Bret thing, I don't wanna get in the middle of this too" Kendra whispered back.

"Okay, how about we quietly disappear"

"I'm down with that" Kendra said as they took small subtle steps back. Bret and Shawn still continued their confrontation.

"Oh you stay away from her now, or else..." Bret threatened as Shawn gave him a twisted smirk.

"Or else what...? You touch me and it'll be the last thing you do" Shawn said mockingly stretching out his arms as if to say 'Come at me'

"Why you little..." Bret was about to punch Shawn square in the face when he felt his hand being stopped by a force. He looked back to see Kendra holding his arm back with all the strength she had in her. Everyone around gasped in surprise.

"Let it go, Bret" She said to him as he looked back and forth between her and Shawn. He just hissed and snatched his hand away from her grasp and began to walk away.

"Yes, run. Run like the coward you are." Shawn said to Bret who ignored him. "You alright sweetheart?"

"Yeah, I'm fine" She said as she noticed everyone in the room was staring at her. She also looked back to see Sable at the back waving at her. She really did know how to slowly disappear "Well, you can all go back to what you were doing, it's over" She told them and almost immediately they complied.

"Wow, I `thought I had you figured as a shy one" Shawn said in an amused but impressed tone.

"I have my moments." She said as she grabbed another cup to make coffee for Vince Russo.

"What are you doing?" Shawn asked her with a confused expression on his face. "Even if you love coffee that much, you must take a break and clean yourself up, you look like a mess." He said making her glance at his direction with a playful offended look on her face. "No, I mean a hot mess... shit, I mean a beautiful mess... I mean"

"Thanks, I know what you mean." She said with a tiny smile as she placed the lid on the cup turned around to face Shawn. "Thanks for all the help Shawn but I best be going"

"No problem. By the way can I get your name?"

"Kendra"

"Kendra. Beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Catch you later Kendra" He told her as she gave a little smile and walked away.

'Kendra huh? I'll be sure look out for her alright' Shawn thought to himself as he watched her walk away.

As Kendra made her way to Vince Russo's office, she didn't miss the eyes that followed her as she walked down the halls. Everyone seemed to be talking about the confrontation Bret and Shawn had and she also propped up in their discussions.

Well, news spreads like wildfire in the WWF anyways.

"What took you so long? And is that... coffee on your top?" Vince Russo asked a bit angry and confused as to why she brought the coffee to him after a whole THIRTY FIVE minutes.

"Yes it is, I had a little incident on the way but water under the bridge now" She said giving him a forced smile.

"Well, thanks. Begone now, the show will soon be over, make sure to meet Delia before you head out of the arena" Vince Russo said referring to one of the writers in creative. Kendra nodded.

"Yes sir" She said as she exited his office. Guess who she bumped into.

Yes, she got face to face with none other than Bret Hart.

"Excuse me" She said attempting to walk past him only for him to pull her back by her arm. It was of no use fighting. He was ten times stronger than her. "What do you want now Bret? Wanna apologize for being a jackass out there?"

"Five minutes. One point. I want you to stay away from Shawn. You two were all cozy after I stepped out and it... well whatever it is ends there before it begins" Bret said making Kendra's mouth gape with open.

"Listen, I understand you two hate each other's guts but don't bring me into your bullshit cause you know I won't agree. You have absolutely no right to dictate my social life" She said ripping her arm away from his grasp.

"Oh you will do what I tell you Kendra" Bret said getting a little frustrated with the situation.

"Ha, please. You're not the boss of me. I mean the hell do you think you are?" Kendra asked him already filled with anger. 'Who the hell does he think h is commanding me like that?'

"I may not be the boss of you, but I am your brother and you will do what I say. The topic ends here" Bret said walking away. Kendra sighed.

The Joys of being Bret Hart's little sister.

And that was chapter 1 everyone. Applause. Or not, I mean it's your call. So, I've laid down some of the characters, plots and its pretty obvious what the romantic pairing will be. How many of you thought she was gonna fall for Bret and build some sort of love triangle? That's like soooo cliche.

Anyways, thanks for reading this chapter. Be sure to comment and follow. Tell me what you really think about the chapter and were I should improve on. Thanks and God Bless.
Stay safe as well. COVID-19 is a jabroni.
