Chapter 2 - Family Ties
12:34pm.
The hotel bar was surprisingly quiet and deserted especially. The only sound came from the bar tender who was... well doing whatever the hell bartenders. Go figure. But anyways, the hotel bar was otherwise quiet and an extremely great place for one to scout his or her thoughts.
And on this faithful night, the said person was Shawn Michaels.
Now Shawn had a lot of things going well for him. He was the WWF champion, he was at the very top of the company politically, after all Vince loved the hell outta him though Shawn never really understood why. His picture was on every poster, billboard and tour bus right next to the WWF symbol. He was the WWF symbol.
Not to mention he was also a handsome, sexy ass son a bitch. His words. You could hear it in his theme song after all.
But everyone says, with every great thing, comes a very nasty thorn in the ass that keeps pricking at every given opportunity. (Yes, people say that. Check the internet.) And for Shawn one of those thorns and arguably the most annoying one was;
Bret Hart.
Bret had always been a thorn in his side for as long as he could remember but nowadays it seemed like their beef had reached an all time high. Every so often the two men had a subconscious need to one up each other and disagree with each other and it had only gotten worse over time. And though it annoyed the hell outta their colleagues, no one really wanted or tried to get involved in their endless fights and arguments. Everyone assumed it would burn out or fade away over time. Nobody got involved or became a third party. Not Vince McMahon, not his best friends not even Bret's own brother Owen who Shawn was ironically close friends with.
Well that all changed last night when Kendra held back Bret from punching him square in the face. She may not have known it but she was the first person in history to ever attempt to mitigate their conflict even with her little action.
And that's why she was on his mind.
Who was she? Why hadn't he noticed her around before? Why was Bret did Bret blow a gasket so much? Who would cut his hair first himself or Bret? He only had the answer to the last was no way he was ever gonna cut his hair I mean could you imagine a bald Shawn Michaels? How funny.
But the other questions, well he was determined to get some answers and nothing was gonna come in his way.
"Yep, I kinda figured I'd find you here" The perky voice of Sunny boomed throughout the bar. Shawn sighed and mentally rubbed his temples. He was so not in the mood.
"Yeah, I just needed to clear my mind" He said in a stoic tone which Sunny didn't seem to notice.
"Well, how about we clear your mind together" Sunny said in a sultry voice with a smirk on his face. He gave a huge sigh.
Remember Shawn had some thorns pricking his ass. The second thorn was his sad love life.
His divorce two years prior had taken quite a toll on him and left him with a broken heart. He guessed he was The Heart Broken Kid. That was funny. But anywho, Shawn's divorce left him confused and heart broken with an empty void in his soul to fill. That void hadn't been filled yet and it plagued it every day.
Then you introduce Sunny.
He hadn't planned for the affair to occur especially when Sunny was the girlfriend of one of his loyal friends Chris Candido. He actually made the first move and well... stuff happened afterwards. All an attempt to fill in the void, one thing led to another and weeks later, they had an affair. His attachment and interest in Sunny was purely physical but she became somewhat of a pest.
"C'mon, when I'm through with you, there'll be absolutely nothing left on your mind" She whispered as her hot breath hit his ear.
But no matter what, he just couldn't let go of her. A loveless affair was way better than loneliness.
"Alright, lead the way" Shawn said as Sunny squealed clapping her hands with excitement and practically lifted him out of the bar stool.
Such is life.

"...and Marie really commended me on my work but she said I need to work on the WOW factor, you know make people want to tune in t their TV's but she encouraged me to keep on trying" Amanda, one of Kendra's fellow WWF creative interns said.
"Wow, how nice" Kendra replied giving Amanda a fake smile which Amanda thankfully couldn't realize as she beamed at smile right back at Kendra as they observed the stagehands setting up the ring for a house show which was coming up in a few hours from their ringside seats.
"How's your job coming along anyways?" Amanda asked Kendra.
"Well..."
"Can I cut in?" Owen Hart asked from behind them cutting Kendra off mid sentence.
"Well, what's the use of asking when you already have" Kendra said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I guess there's no use. I'm really sorry to bother you ladies but can I borrow Kendra for a minute Amanda?" Owen asked. Amanda nodded.
"Sure, I have to go anyways. Catch you later Kenny" Amanda said as she jumped over the barricade and walked away. Kendra groaned when she was out of hearing distance as Owen took a seat beside her.
"Yeah, we all know how you hate that name" Owen said with a smile.
"Don't remind me. So how's my favorite brother doing?" She said with a smile as he sighed.
"He's doing fine, though i know you love each of us equally." Owen said with a smile.
"Keep telling yourself that bro, you know you're lying. You're my favorite. Always have and always will be"
Kendra was what you call a later life surprise as she was came into the Hart Family when her parents Stu and Helen were fifty-nine and fifty nine years old respectively. She had a fair relationship with almost all her siblings with Owen being her favorite sibling. They were closer in age compared to others and they shared a healthy bond right from childhood to their adult years which seemed to grow stronger every day. That's why she never hid the fact that Owen was her favorite sibling and vice versa.
"I am pretty special aren't I?" Owen said with a smile.
"Yeah, so spill. You've been making short, straight to the point sentences and have been smiling a lot... more so than usual" She said. No one smiled that much. And she knew her brother.
"What's wrong with all that?" Owen said with a smile. That smile was getting on her nerves.
"Well it's the normal Owen, the classic Owen. The rascal. You and that Perfect idiot Curt..." She was cut off by Curt just randomly propping himself on a seat behind them. "Join in, why don't you Curt" She said sarcastically.
"Well how nice of you" Curt said returning the sarcastic tone as he put up a smile. That was it.
"Okay, why are you guys smiling so much? What gives. Just spill it!" Kendra said unable to control herself any longer. She loved Curt and Owen she really did. But together they were nuisances.
"You tell her" Owen said.
"No you tell her, I don't wanna tell her" Curt said.
"Well neither do I, you tell her"
"Then why did you come to her first, you tell her"
"You tell her"
"You tell her"
"You tell her"
"You tell her"
"I'll just be on my way now" Kendra said ending the madness once and for all. Kinda.
"Alright fine, I'll be the mature one and tell you" Owen said as Curt stuck out his tongue in mockery. "And I will see you in the ring" He said to Curt who looked unfazed. "Yeah, I know you're scared"
"So should I go or..." Kendra started.
"No!" Owen yelled suddenly making her jump. "Sorry. The thing is we heard about what happened yesterday night with Bret. And Shawn to a lesser extent" Owen said. ''Of course they did, I thought that debacle ended in Chapter One' Kendra thought to herself. Fourth wall kinda stuff...
"I'm a bit afraid to ask but where did you hear it from?" Kendra asked already knowing the answer.
"Sunny"
"Undertaker" Owen and Curt said at the same time.
"So meaning it has gotten around like I thought it would. And Sunny knows meaning everyone knows" Kendra said with a sigh. Curt was about to laugh until Owen punched his arm.
"Ow, what the hell was that for?" Curt asked.
"So, what was the deal with Bret?" Owen asked completely ignoring Curt's question. Kendra sighed. "C'mon Kendra"
"Isn't it obvious? He hates me. It's been like that since I was sixteen so quite frankly I even expected worse" Kendra said with a shrug as Curt and Owen exchanged nervous glances.
"Bret doesn't hate you Kends, you're family" Curt said.
"Well, then I'd hate to see what woulda happened if we were not"
True or not, Kendra had always believed that. While she and Owen were compadres, amigos and twins separated by birth... and nine years, her relationship with Bret was entirely different. Growing up, she and Bret didn't really spend much time together due to their large age difference and he starting pro wrestling at an early age which kept him on the road all time. But through and through they maintained a good relationship.
Suddenly all that changed during her teenage years and they drifted apart with Bret becoming very quick tempered and impatient with her finding faults in almost everything she did and scolding her at any opportunity. She knew she didn't have the best character as a teenager hell who did? But Bret to her, made it seem like hatred. Owen had assured her that it was a phase and it would pass away but even he knew he was lying to himself.
After all, phases don't last for six years.
"I have to get going guys," She said as she looked at her watch. "And so should you. You have a show to put on" Kendra said jumping over the barricade. "Tootles"
When she was out of hearing distance, they spoke up. "So... what now?" Curt asked.
"We could always go fart in Vince's coffee or prank WWF headquarters?" Owen suggested.
"I'm down for both"
Meanwhile as Kendra made her way backstage, she looked through her notepad to see what she was scheduled to do. Turns out the Creative team (plus interns) had a meeting with Mr. McMahon in about fifteen minutes. She sighed inwardly. She really wanted to join WWF as a lead writer. Hell, it was why she pursued a degree in Creative writing but the atmosphere...
"Nice to run into you once again sweetheart" The cool voice of Shawn Michaels filled her ears as she bumped into him cutting her off her thoughts
"Sorry about that Shawn"
"No problem, cause unlike Bret Hart I don't take any little offense at the smallest thing." Shawn said. ''You said it brother' She thought to herself. "So, where are you off too looking all dolled up?"That question surprised her as she looked down at what she had on. Just a simple halter top and jeans with minimum makeup and her long brown hair in a ponytail. Vince didn't really care about interns or anyone for that matter dressing up all fancy. Yuck.
"I'm dolled up? Wow, Shawn. You sure know how to make a girl feel special" She said in a sarcastic tone though amused.
"Do I? I'm Shawn Michaels" He said flashing her his signature grin.
"And I'm not impressed, plus I have somewhere to be right now" She said attempting to walk past him which in response, he blocked her path. "What did I do?"
"May I ask where you have to be? You know, WWF champion and I still don't know anything about you" Shawn said his voice slightly breaking at the end to which Kendra raised an eyebrow at.
"Well, you never asked." She said giving him a smirk as she looked him in the eye.
"Well now, I am" He said taking a few steps closer to her as she took a few steps back. Reflex. "So, what do you do?"
"Well, Shawn..." She said gently pushing him away from her. "...first off, I love my personal space"
"Noted. Uh... sorry" He said blushing in embarrassment. No woman had ever pushed him away. He was a sexy boy after all.
"And secondly, I am an intern for the creative team" She said. "And I have a meeting there in like..." She took a glimpse at her watch. "...two minutes. Gotta go" She said running away.
"Okay, I wanted to ask if you were interested in breakfast tomorrow? No, okay cool!" He tried shouting but she was already obviously outta hearing distance. "My timing was superb"
Kendra got to the office with ten seconds to spare and discreetly got to a seat right next to Amanda.
"Well, you were here early" Amanda said to Kendra as she desperately tried to catch her breath.
"I know right. Hell I deserve an award for how I early I was. In fact I was too early. I deserve an Oscar. I deserve a Golden..."
"Okay, I get it. You're the queen of sarcasm" Amanda said which made Kendra giggle.
"I know." She said in a mock excited voice.
"So, where were you anyways? You never come late for meetings. Ever"
"Uh, you wouldn't believe me if I told you" Kendra brushed off.
"Try me"
"Well..."
"Decorum! I need decorum! The meeting has begun" Vince Russo yelled which got everyone quiet. "All done sir"
"Thanks the guy who stole my name. You may have a seat" Mr. McMahon said adjusting his tie as Vince Russo took his seat. "Welcome you all to our daily... no that'snot right. Weekly...? Nope, not right either. Whenever we feel like having it because we have no set time...ly, meeting. Shane write that down, that was brilliance at it finest" Mr. McMahon said with a look on a satisfied look on his face.
No one was impressed. He cleared his throat. "Well, the house show begins any minute and you know I hate missing even a nano second, yes nano second. Stephanie just taught me that word." He paused. "I hate missing a nanosecond of any and all wrestling activity to this will be very short but brief. And it all centers on the lovely idea Vince Russo came up with. One idea. Four words. King of the Ring. Steve Austin.
'Oh so its that kinda meeting. God help me bite my tongue' Kendra silently prayed. 'And on further note isn't that like six words...?'
We've once again come to the end of the second chapter. Closer to the Hart. Brilliant title yes I know. Shawn seems to be inching closer hmm. I guess you can say he wants to be (Closer to the Hart). So...
