Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon, I only own Violet Hawke as my OC.

Summary: Violet Hawke wanted nothing more than to be a Bug Pokemon Trainer, but with how people viewed those types all she got was ridicule until the day she bumped into the local Professor. Now on a journey, she tries to make her goal a reality, but with an Organization coming out of the shadows she has to decide just how much she's willing to risk to realize her goal.

Chapter 21: Returning to Viridian City Part 2

The first thing Violet did upon getting home was go into her room and collapse on the bed despite the dust that kicked up, making her cough a bit.

But she laid there, happy to be somewhere she felt at ease.

Though she will have to dust eventually because it wasn't just her room, the whole house was dusty.

It meant that her Dad hasn't been home once in the last month.

That was rather concerning.

But it also made sense given how Saffron City has been on lockdown for quite awhile, last she checked, it was still locked down, so no one can get in or out.

Violet had hoped it would end by now, but the fact that the gates were still closed really concerned her.

'Perhaps I should call again?' Violet thought, pushing herself off the bed before taking the hat off, not wanting to call him while wearing that.

She did pause to let Stinger, Silk and Parasite out.

While the latter two were confused by their surroundings, Stinger gave a buzz of recognition, remembering this place.

"Go ahead and look around, this is where I live." Violet told them, walking out of her room. "I'm going to make a call."

Once she talks to her Dad, she's going to at least dust a little bit so she could breathe without feeling the need to sneeze.

Then she'll work on training her team.

They were staying for two weeks after all.

Easily finding the video phone, Violet pushed the numbers and waited, some nervousness settling into her stomach.

Especially when it went straight to voicemail again.

Okay now she was getting worried.

She could forgive him missing the first call because it was from Cerulean instead of Viridian but she left a message and along with when she tried calling in Vermillion.

But missing a third call, this time from the home number?

Was he really too busy to speak with her?

"Dad, what's going on?" Violet muttered, wanting to head to Saffron immediately, but she knew that wouldn't work.

Especially with it being on lockdown, she wouldn't even get past the gates.

… But she could have Silk fly in there and teleport her-no that won't work, their Gym Leader probably had a hand in preventing something like that, otherwise people would be teleporting out.

If anyone could counter that, it would by the Psychic Prodigy known as Sabrina.

So she couldn't do anything but wait for it to end.

'Dad, I hope you're safe.' Violet thought, turning the video phone off.

She turned only to jump as Parasite was right behind her, staring at her with her cloudy eyes.

Placing a hand over her heart, Violet gave a small chuckle. "Make some noise next time." She said, playfully rubbing the mushroom that covered her body. "You took some years off my life."

But it did take her mind off her worries, so Violet didn't mind that much.

It didn't take too long to finish dusting as the house was now opened up, Stinger flying out to the nearby routes with Silk to gather honey while she did that and Parasite played bodyguard.

Even if she felt safe at home, it was still a good idea given everything that happened. The thought of Team Rocket attacking her at home was a scary one.

But right now she was outside at Route 31 doing some light training with Silk focusing on mastering Teleport while Stinger was focusing on Rage.

Parasite kept an eye on Stinger, ready to intervene the moment he lost control.

So she kept her focus on Silk who was able to Teleport a few inches after focusing for a good minute.

Not good, but to be expected considering how advanced Teleport could be.

It needs time to be mastered and right now she has time.

But there was something she wanted to try with Silk and the reason being was when she saw how Surge fought back in Seafoam Island.

While the man terrified her now, she couldn't help but be amazed at how he fought alongside his Pokemon rather than giving an order and staying on the sidelines.

He teleported with his Pokemon to take his opponent out, he was in the thick of it alongside them.

That was something she needed to learn in case she runs into him again.

She's not going to look for him obviously, but she needed something to give her an edge and she came up with one the other night.

It had to do with Silk's usage of psychic energy.

Many trainers who had a psychic Pokemon could set up a link between them, it works with Pokemon who can use psychic attacks as well, so it's possible to do that with Silk. Difficult, but possible.

Sadly it can't be used to communicate with Pokemon, many have tried it but never gotten anywhere, so she wasn't going to bother attempting the impossible. It's more of a being in sync than understanding them.

If they could work on that then Violet could use that to give orders without speaking, giving her an advantage.

But right now, she was only working on teleport.

"Bzt!" Stinger erupted as he couldn't contain Rage anymore, using Pin Missile to slam Parasite back, but Silk stopped working on Teleport to hold him in place with Confusion, giving Parasite enough time to recover and slam into him with a Body Slam, breaking the Poison Bee out of his rage.

Seeing that he was back to normal, Silk let him go, only for Stinger to look down at the ground in annoyance.

He just couldn't keep control.

"Hey it takes time." Violet told him with a smile. "Just keep trying."

Stinger kept quiet before giving a nod, flying back into the air with determination showing.

He was going to master this dammit.

Seeing him doing that, Silk went back to practicing Teleport.

Three days passed since Violet got home and so far that have been slight improvements.

Silk can use teleport after twenty seconds of focusing compared to the minute and can go a few feet now instead of inches.

Stinger is now able to keep his focus while using rage for longer before it overwhelms him. His usage of Agility has also improved to where he is able to use the attack without having to stay still like he did in the battle against Blaine.

And Parasite has been practicing SolarBeam trying to improve how quickly she can gather sunlight and how often she can fire it.

The first time she saw SolarBeam in action left Violet in awe due to how bright and powerful the beam was with Parasite firing it into the sky where it made some distance before dissipating.

But it was extremely taxing for Parasite, enough that she had to stop and rest for a long time before continuing.

So it was still a last resort one shot for now.

Hopefully they can master it before the Tournament because having a move like this would make many future fights a lot easier.

But Violet noticed something about Parasite.

Slowly but surely, Parasite was beginning to act like how she did as a Paras, the clouded look in her eyes disappearing before reappearing at times.

More than that, the clouded look was getting less and less.

And that made her extremely happy because it meant that the Parasite she knew before the evolution was slowly gaining control back.

As Parasite was resting against a tree with her other two Pokemon now doing a mock battle against each other, Violet sat down next to Parasite and went through her Pokedex, reading the entries on Pokemon she's seen.

There have been so many things she missed over the time.

For example Pidgeys usually fight by kicking sand up to hide itself. Rattata can breed like crazy but their teeth are sharp enough to bite through stone itself, their teeth can also grow continuously, so trainers need to have their Rattata's gnaw on something to ensure it doesn't get too big and be unable to eat.

Maybe she should look for Joey to make sure he knew about that.

Then you had Ekans who can dislocate its jaw to swallow prey whole, terrifying but interesting. And Diglets were used by farmers to help till fields to plant crops.

So many things she overlooked on her journey.

Things that would've been helpful to know earlier, so right now she was reading everything she can to learn more about the Pokemon she'll run into in the future.

She was so caught up in reading the entries, she didn't notice that Stinger and Silk finished up their spar and were doing their own thing with Stinger landing on a tree branch above Violet to use Rest and gain energy back as Silk flew around, now practicing Teleport again, wanting to master it.

"Double Kick." Lucy had a frown as her Nidorina took down another wild Pokemon out in Viridian Forest.

It was a Pikachu that she immediately captured to give her a third Pokemon.

She was taking advantage of it being the weekend to train in a different place and to add another Pokemon to her team, the battle against Violet making her grit her teeth.

She still couldn't believe she lost against a bug catcher.

After all the wins she had, to lose against a Beedrill of all things was really getting to her.

Along with how there were whispers whenever she went to school with that blemish to her battle record.

Whispers that she knew wouldn't go away.

The only reason she lost was because she was complacent after so many wins, she just needs to get stronger.

One more month and she'll graduate and get her trainer license.

Once that's done she's doing the Gym Challenge and she'll show Violet that she just got lucky.

She needed to evolve her Spearow and then train her new Pikachu up to catch up with her other Pokemon.

After getting her license and first badge, she'll head into Mt. Moon and catch a Clefairy, a Pokemon she won't leave the mountain until she can find it.

Seeing a nearby Bug Catcher, Lucy gritted her teeth and got ready to battle, imagining this one as Violet.

"Hm." Prof. Oak mused, watching over the gym battle Violet had with Blaine, a contemplative look on his face.

He was taking a small break from his research and wanted to see how the battle turned out given how he was unable to watch the last few days.

And he has to say, she's certainly improved over the course of this month.

It was enough that he rewatched the other three Gym Battles along with his Grandson's Gym Battles to compare them, though with Surge's he gained a dark look.

Surge effectively disappeared off the face of the earth, Lance himself led a small raid inside the Vermillion Gym where they uncovered a hidden room where his Rocket equipment must've been.

There were files that they took for evidence that spoke of certain missions he was a part of, most likely reports Surge read to whoever led Team Rocket.

Frustratingly enough, Surge never once put a name that wasn't his own on the file but it was to be expected.

Currently one of the Gym Trainers was put in charge of the Vermillion Gym with the cover story that Surge was on leave after an extensive background check to ensure none of them were a part of Team Rocket.

It would keep people from figuring out what happened for the moment, but Prof. Oak worried on how Kanto would react should the truth ever become public.

It was theorized that Surge was most likely out in the sea given how the Rocket Submarine disappeared from Seafoam Island, so the man was most likely on the move and given how he had Pokemon that could teleport, the man could be anywhere, making it hard for the League to pin down where he could end up.

Pausing for a moment, Prof. Oak turned on the Pokedex tracker and saw that Violet was still around Viridian while Green was getting closer to Rock Tunnel.

It was a relief for him to know where they were given everything that happened on the off chance he needed to get to them quickly.

At least until Team Rocket was taken care of permanently.

He already told Lance that he wanted to be there when they took the group down for good and the Dragon Master accepted the request, willing to do anything to stomp them out.

Especially now that Team Rocket has made it personal with Will being in his Coma and being behind two of Bruno's Pokemon being badly injured.

Contemplating everything for a second, Prof. Oak pulled out a very old Pokeball, one that contained his starter.

"Charizard old friend, we might have to do some training to get back into shape."

It's been so long since they've truly battled anyone that some of his skills as a trainer waned over the years, no doubt the same was for his Pokemon despite how powerful they were.

He needs to get back into the swing of things.

So he made a call, using the Pokegear.

It rang for a split second. "What do you want you old duff?" Agatha's voice came through, showing some annoyance. "I'm busy."

Ignoring that, Prof. Oak spoke up. "How long until you're done looking into Zapdos?"

There was something about his tone that made Agatha pause instead of hanging up in annoyance at the question.

It was a tone that she hasn't heard in years.

"A few weeks, Lorelei is planning on patrolling the area in case any remnants of Team Rocket are in the area." Agatha narrowed her eyes on her end. "Why?"

"I want to battle you."

If anyone could push him and get him back into shape it would be his old rival.

Agatha went silent, clearly not expecting that. "What, you bored of tinkering over your Pokedex?" She asked, using a mocking tone to hide her surprise.

She's been trying for years since the man retired to get him to battle again, but he always refused, saying his time as a trainer was over.

So why now?

Was he having a midlife crisis?

Professor-No, Samuel Oak ignored the mock and looked at her with narrowed eyes, showing fire she hasn't seen in decades. "Do you accept or not?"

Pushing down how unusual this was, Agatha grinned, not letting this chance go to waste. "I'm not taking it easy on you, if you lose remember you only have yourself to blame Oak."

"I would be insulted if you did go easy on me."

Just like that Agatha felt like she was back in time during their teenage years where they would always compete for every little thing.

Violet took a deep breath as Silk was attempting to form a small link with her trainer.

It's been another seven days and while Violet felt the urge to travel, she kept home for the moment.

She planned on staying home for another four days before she left.

In this time, Teleport has been enough to get them to Pallet Town and back, though Silk had to rest for a bit in between.

So they could use it to shorten the travel distance between areas they've been to, eventually Silk would be good enough to go to the other side of Kanto but that won't be for a long time.

Violet pushed those thoughts away as she felt something in her head, it reminded her of when Bill's Abra connected only this time it was less intrusive given the nature of what was going on.

Slowly, Violet opened her eyes before blinking as she was seeing… Herself?

Everything was red and she took a step back only to trip and fall, breaking the connection.

Silk made a noise, trying to see if she was alright while Violet tried to comprehend what just happened.

Did she just see through Silk's eyes?

That wasn't something she was expecting, she was just trying to make a small link to silently make a strategy, but in a way that was pretty cool.

And Violet could already see how useful that would be if they were in a dark area like a cave and ended up in a fight.

Silk's compound eyes could see through illusions, smoke and the dark, so being able to do something like that would make a lot of things easier when it came down to it.

"Let's try again." Violet said, wanting to make progress on this new development.

It took some time for them to connect like that again as this time, Violet didn't take a step back while Silk flew around her, the view changing as the bug flew with Violet now seeing the back of her head.

She went to turn towards her and that was when she found something wrong with this connection.

By seeing through Silk's eyes, she was turning the opposite direction then what she was trying to do and ended up hitting the wall face first, making her grab her nose as the connection ended once again showing how volatile it was.

Three more days passed and Violet was nowhere close to getting anywhere on that, having more headaches than achievements, but it was the night before she would continue her journey and she'd been busy that day preparing.

She sold some of the jars of honey that Stinger and Silk got, getting quite a bit of money that she used on both supplies for the roads such as Potions, Antidotes, Food. Then she bought new clothes.

She ended up buying a black jacket and some blue pants, deciding to forego the shorts for them and buy the jacket along with some thermal clothes in case she ends up in a cold place again.

Say what you will, Seafoam Island was definitely an eye opener on being prepared, even if you think you don't need it.

Currently her three Pokemon were sleeping in random places in her room, Silk was on top of the dresser, Parasite was curled up in a corner near her closet while Stinger sat on her desk.

They were just as ready to leave like she was, wanting to continue on the road due to how restless these two weeks have been.

Not that she can blame them, she was just as restless after experiencing what it was like to travel and she wanted to see more places.

Though perhaps when they teleport to Pewter City, she can see how Brock is doing while Silk recovered before doing the same to Cerulean and seeing how Misty and Bill are.

Once that's done she'll make her way to Rock Tunnel.

Checking her team's overall strength, Violet saw that despite spending the last two weeks training, they didn't get that much stronger compared to before.

At most they only gained one level each.

Probably due to how weak the wild Pokemon were in Viridian compared to them and Violet couldn't help but be amused, remembering how terrifying these Pokemon seemed in the beginning.

Giving a yawn, Violet glanced at the time before she figured she should go to sleep to ensure that she gets up early in the morning.

That way she wastes no more time in continuing her journey.

Heh, another chapter so early, but also a rather short one due to how not much was happening besides Violet taking two weeks to recuperate from that mess against Team Rocket.

Not that relaxing was the only thing she did, she learned a bit more about her Pokemon due to the Pokedex entries and did some light training to try and have her team master Rage, Teleport and SolarBeam respectively.

Though they haven't fully mastered the three moves, it's a lot better than it used to be and I updated her look to where she's wearing pants instead of shorts and has a jacket, so that's something.

And before anyone says anything about the psychic link with Silk that doesn't mean Violet will suddenly be a psychic or be able to understand Silk's thoughts, its because of Silk's latent psychic abilities that Butterfree's have and in the Manga Pokemon do quite a few things to fight alongside their own trainers, seriously they do things you really don't expect like the GSC Antagonist using Ice Pokemon to manipulate ice sculptures making it seem like they could move on their own and I want to add that type of stuff into this story to make it a bit more engaging, so her seeing through Silk's eyes is only scratching the surface as while its useful for her to be able to see it doesn't really do much in a fight if you think about it and it has a lot of flaws that were shown in this chapter.

Then you have Lucy catching a Pikachu and while it seems like she's not changing all that much that's because right now she's still coming to terms with what happened, in a way that loss has given her a goal to beat Violet the next time they meet which will help her grow stronger and be another rival.

Speaking of rivals we finally have Prof. Oak getting back into the mix with him contacting Agatha to have a battle, wanting to be ready for the final confrontation with Team Rocket who not only made it personal with the League but with him considering how his own Grandson was nearly killed by them.

Finally you have Violet now being worried about the fact that her Dad hasn't been in contact and anyone who plays the game knows why given how Saffron is on lockdown.

Alright, time for the Reviews.

RonaldM40196867: Thank you and yes there will be a sequel, this is only the Kanto Arc, more will come over time.

Dabber2121: Thank you, it's great to see that you're enjoying this story and Lucy will have character development in this story, I can promise that much.

LuxBeacon: Yeah, but I need to find the time to read it anyways because the summary is very intriguing and I've heard good things about it. I also need to catch up on a Trainer Named Lucas as well now that I think about it. I did think about having Yellow in the story but decided against it and figured having Joey would be a nice call out and to give Violet a chance to be a teacher to someone wanting to be a trainer, basically showing how far she's come in comparison. Lucy is the strongest in the school for a reason, but like I said she's only the big fish in a small pond compared to the rest of the world and most of the other kids have normal types which Nidorina can take down easily with Double Kick, her evolution only added to the distance between her and the other students. But yes compared to Violet's experience, especially after having four gym badges that Lucy knows nothing about, her strength was practically nothing. It's less of the other students being friendly because she's stronger and more of them being happy that Lucy finally lost given her winning streak, to them it was proof that she could be beaten, though Violet didn't realize that showing she misunderstood that part. I figured with everything that happened, giving Violet the TM Teleport was a smart move for the Professor, it would ensure she has a way to escape in the future.

ShinyHunter137: Good to see you're back and sorry about your old account. Thank you and I hope you continue to enjoy this story.

Pokemonking0924: She sure has, to think she started off as a timid girl with only a level 3 Weedle, now she has four gym badges and helped a kid catch their first Pokemon. I also wanted to show her growth upon meeting her classmates who she ran away from in tears back in the first chapter, she's still quiet but this time it's more mature compared to before and while Lucy is a bit of a brat she is only ten just like Violet, so she has a lot of room to grow. I took the small scene that was with Mew appearing out because I realized how out of place it was, but if you're interested in knowing more or coming to your own conclusions, I did leave quite a few hints back in Chapter 14 when she spoke to Will, that's all I'm saying.

evan17w: I figured it would make for an interesting reference, happy to see it's well received.
