Before this chapter is posted I want to apologize for dropping off the grid for the last few weeks. I've been working a lot because this time of the year is quite busy for me.
Then I got sick which only extended my small hiatus from fanfiction.
So this chapter isn't as long as I wanted it to be originally, but I didn't want to keep anyone waiting for any longer. I promise to make the next one even longer to compensate for this.
Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon, I only own Violet Hawke as my OC.
Summary: Violet Hawke wanted nothing more than to be a Bug Pokemon Trainer, but with how people viewed those types all she got was ridicule until the day she bumped into the local Professor. Now on a journey, she tries to make her goal a reality, but with an Organization coming out of the shadows she has to decide just how much she's willing to risk to realize her goal.
Chapter 23: The Ice Mistress
Violet couldn't help but smile as the wind was rushing past her face while she biked down Route 9.
The weather was great, especially for late spring and Violet was just happy that she was making her way through this area before it turned to summer.
It's already been three days since she left Cerulean City and she knew it would take a good week before she got through Rock Tunnel depending on if she got lost or not. But it would take a good four more days before she got there to begin with.
Definitely making good time due to how before it would've taken her a month to get this far, but with both Teleport and a Bike, she managed to shorten the time quite a bit.
She did have to stop and battle a few people during her time in this Route, but they went down rather easily due to them having some unevolved Pokemon such as Pidgey, Machop, Oddish, Bellsprouts and Geodudes.
Much like how it was near Cerulean Cape, the trainers weren't really that strong in this area.
Glancing up, Violet could see Stinger flying high above with Silk, the two of them enjoying the warm air themselves.
The bike jerked as Violet almost cycled off the path and she panicked for a second before she fell, crashing into the ground with a grunt of pain.
Man that hurts.
'That's what I get for losing focus.' Violet pushed herself up, looking herself over before wincing as she felt a bit of pain in her knee.
Thankfully her pants didn't tear but there was probably a scrape there.
"Bzzt?" Stinger flew down in concern, followed by Silk as Violet ignored the pain and pushed herself up.
"I'm alright." Violet reassured them with a smile.
If anything her pride took the biggest hit there.
So she got back on the bike and continued on, not seeing her two Pokemon exchange concerned glances.
But they followed her as she continued to cycle, seeing a wild Nidorino herding some Nidoran, both male and female.
The evolved Pokemon gave her a cautious look, but she cycled past with no problem.
'Hard to believe this Route was the victim of thunderstorms for the past month.' Violet couldn't help but think, remembering the bizarre weather reports that happened here.
Looking at the sunshine now, she couldn't believe those reports.
Shaking her head, Violet refocused to avoid crashing again.
The next four days passed quite as easily as the first three, the trainers were getting more and more scarce the further down the Route she went and Violet made it to Route 10 rather quickly, now being a good hour away from the Pokemon Center near Rock Tunnel.
A good thing because her team was exhausted, enough that all of them were in their Pokeballs at the moment.
Due to the lack of trainers, the wild Pokemon were more apparent and she found herself attacked by wild Fearow, Machokes, Arbok, Primeapes and Raticates.
All in their early to mid twenties, so not that hard to defeat.
But they did attack in hordes, a lot of them involving their unevolved forms and the numbers were enough to wear her team down at times to where they had to hole up somewhere to recover.
Violet yawned as she was walking now, due to how dangerous the path was given how high up in the mountain portion of the route she was in.
She had no confidence in her skills to even attempt to cycle this path.
Eventually however she began to smell salt water in the air, showing she was close.
So she began to run, only for someone to shout.
"Acid!"
Eyes widening, Violet barely came to a stop when the ground in front of her erupted with an Arbok spitting the poison move right at her.
Without even thinking, Violet dove to the side, barely evading the attack before she saw something that terrified her.
Various Team Rocket grunts were coming into view, most of them hiding behind various rocks while others were using Golbats to get down from a higher path.
"So you're the brat that's always getting in our way." One of the grunts spoke, the one who commanded the Arbok. "We knew you would have to come by here eventually."
Violet cursed as she went to send Silk out to teleport, but the ground behind her erupted with another Arbok showing itself, quickly wrapping around her, followed by a group of Ekans.
"So we figured we could set a trap for a child like you." Another grunt said with a vicious smirk as the Arbok squeezed, not enough to kill but to cause some pain to Violet. "Do you realize how much money and people you cost us?!"
Not only that but one of their Executives being revealed to be a Gym Leader was because of this kid.
Their reputation would be ruined if it ever got out how a kid has done more damage to them than anyone else.
So they were taking matters into their own hands on orders from the Admins.
Violet struggled despite the discomfort, still trying to reach her Pokeballs, chiding herself for not keeping one of them out.
But deep down she knew even if she did there were too many Grunts here and with her Pokemon exhausted it probably would've ended the same.
"Remember, don't kill her." The Grunt in charge ordered in a sharp tone. "We're taking her back to base alive."
After all, Admins Petrel and Arianna have plans for her.
And given how sadistic Arianna can be, it would definitely be the best revenge.
"Oh come on, they didn't say we couldn't rough her up a bit." Another Grunt protested, wanting to hurt Violet for her actions. "What's a few broken bones? I say we break her limbs to make sure she doesn't get any ideas."
"Hold it." A new voice spoke up before any of the other Grunts could agree or disagree with the idea.
'Great a witness.' The Rocket Grunt in charge thought with a sigh, turning to deal with this new threat only for his eyes to widen in fear.
Violet blinked as she barely managed to turn her head towards the voice to see someone she didn't expect, slowly walking towards them.
K-Kanna?
"Hold it, w-we'll kill her if you take another step." One of the Grunts ordered in fear no longer caring about bringing the kid in alive, recognizing who this was, only to gasp as Violet disappeared from the Arbok's grasp.
The young bug catcher reappeared right next to Lorelei alongside a Slowbro, the girl falling to her knees in relief at being free.
"What's a member of the Elite Four doing out here?!" One of the Grunts demanded in fear.
'Elite Four?' Violet looked up only to feel some pressure in her head as the Slowbro sent a small surge of psychic energy into her head, lulling her to sleep.
"An astute question, unfortunately for you I'm in no mood for answering anyone who gangs up on a child." Lorelei said, giving a smile that didn't reach her eyes.
Instead her eyes that usually held warmth were now full of nothing but malice.
"But I'm fair, I'll give all of you one chance to surrender." Lorelei offered them. "I'm sure all of you know how the League has deigned to deal with your Organization after your stunt on the SS. Anne."
And she planned to take full advantage of that which was why she had Violet be put to sleep to avoid traumatizing her should they decline her generous offer.
She could see just about all of them actually considering taking her up on that offer showing that despite the time it's been, her reputation as the Sadistic Ice Mistress from the war was still intact.
"H-Hey she's only one person, it doesn't matter if she's in the Elite Four she can't win against all of us!" The lead Grunt who owned the Arbok that captured Violet said, glaring at the others, making them nod.
Though some of them were uncertain.
"Oh? Quite confident aren't you?" Lorelei asked in a mocking tone, reaching up to take her glasses off. "Alright then, go on and try."
Taking offense to that, the Rocket Grunts went to rush her, all of their Pokemon out showing an entire army.
Lorelei just smirked as an explosion of ice erupted in the battlefield, spikes protruding from the ground impaling some of the grunts in the legs while their Pokemon were frozen solid.
"W-What the-?" One of them asked, coughing up blood before he heard movement and turned to see a Pokemon that was swaying back and forth as it walked.
It was a humanoid, bipedal Pokemon wearing a red gown with two gold circlets on its chest. Its face was pitch black, being formed by shadows as the only identifying features were its red lips, long blonde hair and wide saucer-like eyes.
"Jynx~." The Ice/Psychic Pokemon chanted as a snow storm began to fill the air before the grunt saw black as all of them were frozen solid.
Then Jynx blasted the ice sculptures of the grunts with psychic energy shattering them, having enough precision to only hit Team Rocket while leaving the Pokemon alone.
All except one who witnessed the whole thing, his whole body frozen with the exception of his head.
"Y-You monster." He managed to get out, giving Lorelei a fearful look as she gave him a rather sadistic grin.
"Oh? Rather hypocritical of you isn't it?" Lorelei asked, walking forward towards the Grunt, placing her left hand on her hips before cupping his chin with her right hand. "But I won't deny it."
She knew that she was a monster, much like how the rest of the Elite Four were monsters in their own right.
And Team Rocket pretty much taunted these monsters for far too long.
"Don't worry I'm not going to kill you, after all I need to have a lovely chat with you on what Team Rocket's plans are." Lorelei grinned as the man's face paled. "Be a good boy and I won't get too rough with you~."
But for now she gave a nod to Jynx who finished freezing the Rocket Grunt solid.
Unlike the actual cold, ice from Pokemon attacks don't cause hypothermia unless the Pokemon has the intent.
Instead she turned as Jynx and Slowbro teleported the Grunt away to the Indigo Plateau for interrogation, now approaching Violet who was currently asleep.
The sadistic look faded as she gave her a genuine smile. "For a young girl you seem to get into trouble a lot." She said, gently picking Violet up.
Luckily there was a Pokemon Center nearby.
Violet felt groggy as she woke up, oddly comfortable.
It took a second for her to realize she was in a bed and the confusion she felt disappeared as she remembered what happened.
Now sitting up, Violet winced as her body ached before she saw that there were bruises all over her arm.
"Finally awake?" The voice made Violet jump as she turned towards it to see Lorelei sitting in a nearby chair, reading a rather large book. "You've been out for a good day."
"A day?" Violet muttered, not expecting that.
"Thankfully the worst you seem to have is mild bruising on your arms and legs from the Arbok wrapping around you, they'll go away eventually." Lorelei informed Violet.
"... You're Lorelei." Violet finally said after a few seconds of silence, recalling hearing that she was a part of the Elite Four.
Lorelei just smirked. "I am, Kanna is a fake name I like to use to avoid attention." She revealed, looking a bit mischievous.
That… That made sense.
Violet was essentially a stranger when she met Ka-no when she met Lorelei, so the woman had no obligation to reveal who she was.
"Why did you put me to sleep?" Violet asked, knowing it was her.
She practiced enough with Silk to know what psychic energy in her head felt like.
Lorelei was quiet for a bit, an internal debate going through her head before she spoke. "Let's just say the fight with Team Rocket got a bit messy." She said, watching Violet closely for a reaction. "It's nothing a child should see."
Violet frowned at being reminded of her age.
Just because she was ten didn't mean she was an idiot.
"You killed them."
Lorelei didn't deny it. "Does that bother you?"
It should bother her.
Violet knew it should.
But Violet remembered hearing about the crimes and the pain that Team Rocket caused before seeing first hand how cruel they could be.
How far they were willing to go.
So she looked away, not answering.
"I see." Lorelei mused as if knowing what she was thinking.
Somehow that wouldn't have surprised Violet if that were the case.
Watching Violet for a few seconds, Lorelei decided to ask. "You were on Seafoam Island when Surge captured Articuno, correct?"
That got a reaction with Violet whipping her head around with wide eyes.
Even if it was obvious that a member of the Elite Four would know, she wasn't expecting for her to just ask that.
"We've read the report that Prof. Oak submitted to the League, he left out the names of the two trainers that were there, but it's rather obvious given how often your name has come up in the last few weeks." Lorelei revealed, sounding rather amused at her reaction. "I daresay Lance was impressed with your achievements."
Even if it stung his pride that she's done more to Team Rocket in one month than what the entire Elite Four has been attempting for a good decade.
Violet had no idea what to say about that.
Was she still asleep?
"But I'm afraid the situation has gotten a bit more serious since Seafoam Island." Lorelei mused a bit before deciding to share this little tidbit. "Team Rocket might've captured Zapdos as well."
As she watched Violet pale at hearing that, Lorelei knew that the girl was most likely wondering why she shared such sensitive information.
It was simple really.
Violet was the whole reason they found out that the Organization was going after Legendaries and thanks to her they realized how deep Team Rocket has infiltrated the League.
She wasn't going to hide this information, especially when Team Rocket has already made multiple attempts to kill her.
Keeping her in the dark would do nothing but leave her unprepared in the future.
'That makes it two Legendaries.' Violet thought in horror.
And for good reason.
She saw first hand how powerful Articuno was and who knows how Zapdos compares.
With just one Team Rocket could cause massive damage and now they had two.
"What about Moltres?!" Violet asked, not wanting to imagine if they found the third and final one.
"We found that one and we have countless Ace Trainers keeping watch alongside Bruno," Lorelei told her to ease her worries. "If they even attempt Moltres we will know."
Hearing that, Violet took a deep breath to calm herself down.
That was certainly some good news.
But that also left one more Legendary.
Violet recalled her very first encounter before looking up. "They're also after Mew."
Surprise flickered on Lorelei's face. "Mew?" She asked, raising a brow. "I didn't think they would waste their time on a myth."
That threw Violet off before remembering how rare it was to even see Mew.
Even Prof. Oak was surprised when he found out that Violet met the legendary.
"They almost caught it near Pallet Town," Violet revealed, now having Lorelei's full attention. "It was before I started my journey, Mew was being chased by them."
"You say that you saw Mew?" Lorelei asked, making sure she was hearing correctly.
"I only had a Weedle with me and Mew transformed into a Caterpie to hide from Team Rocket before taking off after losing them." Violet thought back to that moment. "I didn't know what Pokemon that was at the time or what was going on really."
'So she even met Team Rocket back then.' Lorelei crossed her arms in thought. 'And she said Pallet Town, I need to let Lance know so we can keep watch there.'
They can't let Team Rocket get the last two Legendaries.
Checking the time, Lorelei knew she had to get going so she stood up. "Thank you for sharing that information," She said with a smile. "The League will take it from here."
A part of Violet wanted to protest and that surprised her.
Perhaps it was because of how many times she ended up in these insane situations, but that was why she knew that she couldn't get any more involved.
'You should be focusing on your journey, on seeing new sights. Not fighting criminals.'
Prof. Oak's words went through her head and she gave a nod, trusting Lorelei on this matter.
"And don't worry about Team Rocket coming after you, after what I've done they'll think twice before wasting any time doing so." Lorelei promised, a sadistic grin on her face.
That sent a shiver down Violet's spine before the Ice Trainer left.
Needless to say Violet decided to rest for another day before attempting Rock Tunnel, entering the cave as Silk was resting on her head.
To say that it was dark would be a massive understatement because Violet could barely see what was in front of her.
Normally one would use a glow stick or a flashlight to get through this place, or have a Pokemon that produced flames such as a Magmar, Ponyta or Charmeleon to get through here.
Violet however had her own way.
"Silk?"
Upon being prompted, Silk focused and connected with Violet, allowing her to see through the bug's eyes, the Compound Eyes ability making the place light up quite a bit.
Whenever they stopped for the night during the last few days, Violet took time to work with Silk on this, wanting to get it working to test out in Rock Tunnel.
It got to the point where they could keep this up for about an hour, though it required complete focus so if something attacked them or something distracts Silk then the connection would break.
But using it this way would make for good practice.
And this way Violet would be able to make the batteries for her flashlight last given how she wasn't completely sure how long this trip would take.
Violet smiled as she made her way through Rock Tunnel, letting Parasite out to go on ahead, using Dig to make sure nothing would ambush them while priming Stinger's Pokeball in case she needed to let him out.
Given her last adventure through a mountain and what happened two days ago, she'd rather be safe then sorry.
Hearing movement, Violet didn't move as Silk looked up, allowing for her to see a horde of Zubat passing by with quite a few Golbats, some of them eyeing her with a hungry look.
Silk gave a low cry, most likely warning them not to try anything watching as they flew off.
Three days have passed since Violet entered Rock Tunnel with the young girl using the flashlight whenever Silk had to rest due to exertion, having Stinger out in her place.
Parasite also kept rather close despite going on ahead and would sometimes walk alongside her before digging back down.
Surprisingly the wild Pokemon were pretty scarce with the exceptions besides that horde of Zubats being a few Machop and Geodudes.
She has yet to stumble across an Onix, but Violet wasn't complaining, not wanting to do anything to piss off a wild one.
Violet did run into trainers, mostly just Hikers who were rather used to traversing mountains like this, those types of trainers having Machokes and Gravelers.
Normally the latter would actually pose a bit of trouble for Violet considering she was using Stinger in most of those fights depending on if Silk had enough energy to battle or if Parasite was with her rather than ahead of them.
But the Hikers, they weren't that tough.
She's not saying they were weak because they really weren't, but they don't battle a lot so their Pokemon weren't as tough as some others she faced over her journey.
Or maybe it was because Violet was getting more experience in battling other trainers.
Whatever the reason, the fights would always end rather quickly.
Twineedle, despite being weak against both Rock and Fighting types, was pretty strong, especially if she used Focus Energy to raise its power to match Stinger's ability and if they poisoned the opponent.
Combine that with Agility and Stinger pretty much swept their team while using Harden to make himself more durable considering how their opponents were more physical fighters.
Pausing to take a break, Violet sat on a small rock after making sure it wasn't a sleeping Geodude and pulled out a bag of chips to eat.
She could see Parasite nearby due to the white eyes piercing through the darkness while Silk was resting by sitting next to the rock, her wings drooping to show her exhaustion.
Perhaps she should just use the flashlight for the rest of the cave?
Stinger just crossed his arms rather impatiently, wanting to get to the next battle.
Violet smiled at them before looking up where the ceiling would be despite not seeing it.
To think once she was out of this cave she'll finally get herself a Venonat.
It's been quite awhile since she caught Parasite that she was excited to catch a new member of the family.
And after that they were heading to Celadon City to take on Erika.
So for the very first time they'll be the ones with the advantage against a Gym Leader instead of being the ones at a disadvantage.
After facing Brock and Blaine, Violet was rather confident in her chances here, not to mention they would finally be able to buy some TM's to round out her team a bit more and then get a Pinsir.
Then she would just need three more badges.
'I wonder how Venonat and Pinsir would change the team?'
After all, adding two members to their group would definitely change up the dynamic quite a bit.
She was excited for that, but also a little terrified.
After all, the more Pokemon a trainer has the harder it was to keep up with their training, one of the things that were taught in Trainer School.
In a way that made Green a good trainer given the amount of Pokemon he caught for the Pokedex while she only had three.
Would that change when she adds more and Green surpasses her? Or will she be able to keep up with their training?
"Bzzt?" Stinger approached Silk while their trainer was taking her break, taking a small jab at how exhausted she was while he was the one fighting.
Silk gave him a dry look, about to use a small confusion to launch a pebble at his forehead before shaking her head.
She was too exhausted to be annoyed.
That made Stinger tilt his head, the poison bee Pokemon rubbing the back of his head with the side of his arm.
Perhaps he went a bit far with his small taunt.
He truly didn't mean anything by it, they just got along well with the banter.
Though he did remember their first time arguing while he was a Kakuna and Silk was a Caterpie.
Thinking back to how they just covered each other with String Shot until they couldn't move, he let out a small chuckle.
Things seemed a lot simpler back then, they were just Pokemon going on a journey.
Then the Kangaskhan incident happened.
From there things just got a bit more complicated the further they got.
Stinger had to wonder, do other Pokemon go through this stuff with their Trainers or were they just unlucky in general?
Don't get him wrong, he would keep fighting for Violet, but it was getting a bit exhausting to be running into danger like this.
Stinger figured he was quiet for a bit too long given how Silk idly flew towards him despite her exhaustion and gave him a concerned look.
He tried to play it off by turning around only to jump and hover in the air as Parasite was right there looking at him.
Dammit, he hates it when she does that.
It always scares the crap out of him when she comes up with little to no noise.
His reaction elicited a small chuckle from Silk who gave a nod towards Parasite to say hello.
Parasite just gave a nod in return, actually muttering an apology catching the two by surprise.
It was the first time in so long that Parasite actually said anything to them.
Parasite looked at them before turning away, being uncertain of where to proceed from there.
Their conversation was interrupted as Violet stood up, putting her chips up. "Ready to go?" She asked, wanting to get out of the cave.

Alright, this chapter took a bit, mostly because I've been writing, deleting, rewriting everything going on, especially with Lorelei's involvement and if I wanted to add it to the story or not.
It's a bit of a reference if you will because Lorelei does help out the protagonist against Team Rocket in the Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu games, something I loved seeing because it added a bit to the character. Plus it would also give Giovanni a bit more of a headache when he realizes more of his operatives went rogue showing a bit of discord within their ranks and to name drop some important Rocket Characters from the game.
More than that, I wanted to show how I planned to implement the Manga sides of the Elite Four, such as how sadistic Lorelei got in the Manga with her opponents and to show how powerful a true Elite Four would be when they don't hold back.
After all Lorelei wasn't in public or had any civilians with the exception of Violet to worry about getting caught in the crossfire, open space to let loose so she took advantage of that. Something that Will couldn't do because of the small shape of the SS. Anne and how he couldn't let loose without risking sinking the ship.
And it was to show how terrifying Ice Pokemon could be in a realistic manner given how they can freeze someone then shatter them in an instant.
Then we finally have another scene between Violet's team to flesh them out a bit more, I need to do them more often.
Alright let's get the reviews out of the way.
Pokemonking0924: Yea, the chapters have been getting a bit simple haven't they? I'm happy that people are enjoying it though and while Teleport is improving, it's still quite a bit before she can use it in a battle to great effect. And the battle with Brock was to show how far she still had to go despite the strides she has made, especially since Parasite only had one grass move to use. It's technically a mountain bike, I should've explained that part a bit better. I love the vs. Seeker, I abused the hell out of that item during my personal Leaf Green Nuzlocke to get my team to be strong enough to survive. Hell, I use it in all the games it's in to great effect for both grinding and money. Plus the Fame Checker had a lot of potential but is sadly just meh in the game. I'm still in the process of trying to decide what her hobby will be though.
Holyx23: Thank you, it's been a lot of fun to type this story out. It's also the farthest I've ever gotten with a Pokemon story which makes it even better for me to get into. The only legendary I see her getting would be Genesect and that one won't appear for a long time, same with the Ultra Beasts. And that's if I do let her get them. As for Pokemon that complement bug types, I guess maybe Falinks? I actually thought that was a Bug Pokemon when I first saw it.
RonaldM40196867: Yes and fishing is relaxing, though I haven't gone in a long time. Uh wow that question came out of nowhere but… I think so because in the Gen 4 games it hinted at Humans marrying Pokemon in the lore if you chose to read the books at the Canalave Library, so honestly it wouldn't surprise me, hell that could be the answer of where Psychics and Aura users came from now that I think about it.
Guest13: They are, especially the Unova bugs, but this story is pretty much Gen1 only with a few exceptions such as Will being involved.
Emeraldshard: It was something I came up with before getting this story typed out, so I've been saving that title for a long time.
Evan17w: But it does fit in a way.
Zapking5: Thank you, it never made sense on how many of the trainers in the game never had a TM move to take advantage of, or how few fics do something like that. I mean if a Pokemon can learn it, use it, especially if it counters a weakness of theirs. I understand on why a lot of people have their protagonist always win in the fics, it mimics the game where it's quite easy to win all the time but losing is what helps someone grow in the long run and I like to think I showed that pretty well with Violet showing her first loss against Green only to come back and while she didn't win she put up a better fight in their rematch.
LuxBeacon: Thank you and yes that was the point of the Fame Checker, it's pretty cool but it's also unnerving in how much information it can hold. Plus Violet is starting to become famous, so she'll be in the public eyes soon enough which will mean less privacy. Sadly Rock Tunnel didn't have a lot because nothing really happens there except for it being a maze.
Kunoichi69: I know right? It's something I've been wanting to call her since the beginning but she needed the growth to actually earn it first. And yes her Pokemon are limited but that's because no one can really buy TM's until Celadon so everyone is limited at this point. Huh, that's a good idea for a hobby, I'll take it into consideration.
Guest14: I'll take that into consideration, but please have the reviews be centered around this particular story.
Kept123: Sorry for the long wait.
DemonWolf25: Yes because the Manga is a gem in the Pokemon series, I've read it a lot, though I only have the first three physical volumes in my possession sadly enough.
