Chapter 11 - The Night From Hell... Yeah!

"...Mom I told him already. He just hasn't said anything to Kendra yet" Owen said to Helen, his angry mother.

"For crying out loud it's better she hears it now than any other time. What the heck is wrong with your brother?!" Helen asked full of rage and confusion. Why did she have such a stubborn son?

"You tell him. He's acting like such a baby nowadays" Owen said with a sigh. "Maybe I should be the one to..."

"No. No. I won't allow you to do that. In fact I forbid it. Bret has to be the one to tell her. You've done enough already it's his turn to deal with that shit." Owen couldn't help but laugh. It was always funny to hear his mother swear as she rarely did so. She only did when she was very angry like now for example.

"Mom..."

"Owen honey, Bret has to do the talking. Case closed. Have a good day" Helen said hanging up. Owen sighed. The Harts were a lot of things including being very stubborn. He could see so in his mother much less Bret. He sighed sitting down next to Bret as they proceeded with the ongoing autograph signing.

"How's mom?" Bret asked noticing the worn out look on Owen's face. "That bad?"

"This is all your fault man. Why don't you just tell her already? Mom's blowing a gasket and I'm the one on the receiving end. Do it already and do it fast." Owen snapped.

"In time brother. I have to tread carefully with her." Bret said as he signed a book for a fan and took a picture with her.

"Since when do you tread carefully with Kendra? You're the brash one"

"Correction. I'm the protective one." Owen gave him a look. "What?"

"Forget that. But you had the perfect opportunity and you blew it all because of your stupid paranoia." Owen said rolling his eyes. "Which I might add you're supposed to have outgrown. Kendra has shown us she's mature enough to make good choices you don't need to protect her or whatever the hell it is you think you're doing."

"I'm not paranoid, I'm preventing a certain disaster by not allow her to hook up with a degenerate. Those are two completely different things." Bret said calmly completely ignoring the last part of what Owen said.

"They are exactly the same thing!"

"No, I guarantee you they aren't" Bret argued.

"They are"

"Aren't"

"Are"

"Aren't"

"Are"

"I could get a dictionary?" Bret suggested. Owen ran a hand down his face in frustration but nonetheless kept quiet. "I thought so." Bret said with a smirk.

"You know what whatever. You're crazy." Owen said. Bret laughed a bit more. "But on a serious note just man up and tell her what happened. The earlier the better"

"And I say I'll do it in time. For God sake I'm not an idiot Owen" Bret said with a sigh. "I'm just trying to protect her. It's all I've done forever and it's all I will continue to do."

"Bret you're not protecting her like this. You're stirring up something worse"

"Then so be it. I'll handle it like I've always done. If mom thinks I should be the one to break the news to our sister then I'll do it on my time dammit!" He yelled. Owen remained silent as his eyes darted over to the fan standing in front of Bret. A little girl that was probably seven or eight years old who looked scared as fuck. "Shit, sorry kid I..."

"You're mean. This is why I've always liked Shawn Michaels more than you" She said sticking her tongue out at him. Bret's mouth dropped wide open. Owen stifled a laugh as the little girl tore the Hitman poster she was carrying and went over to what they assumed to be Shawn's line.

"Oh fuck that was hilarious. You should've seen your face" Owen said laughing looking over at Bret whose mouth was still open wide not believing what had just happened. Did he just lose a fan?

"Whatever. I don't care. She was just a stupid fan anyway" He said trying to brush off the fact that he was hurt. And moreso it added to the epistle of reasons why he hated Shawn so much. Even when the man wasn't around he still managed to piss him off.

"Sure. Whatever you say older brother but that was hilarious" Owen said with a laugh. Bret huffed.

"It wasn't that funny" Bret grumbled. Owen raised up his hands in mock surrender.

"Alright. If you say so." Owen said as they continued the signing. It went on quite well as most signings they'd done in the past. The only really 'bad' moment was when Bret saw the little girl who'd torn his poster hug and kiss Shawn on his cheek. She even had the guts to shout 'You're my bestest and favoritest wrestler in the whole wide world.'

"Fucking brat, she can't even speak English well." Bret mumbled trying not to show his obviously jealousy.

"Better than Bret Hart?" Shawn asked a little bit louder than normal obviously trying to get the attention of Bret. It worked.

"Oh much better. I don't like him anymore he's a jerk" She said. Owen nearly fell off his chair laughing as they all heard the interaction between Shawn and the little girl.

"Atta girl, take a high five" Shawn said in his abnormally loud voice once again.

"That must hurt man" Brian Pillman said from beside him putting a 'supporting' hand on Bret's shoulder which the older man shrugged off. "Okay then"

"I feel your pain Bret" The Brooklyn Brawler said from two seats away with a laugh of his own. Bret rolled his eyes.

"Who are you again?" He asked The Brooklyn Brawler coldly which made the man shut up. "I thought so. Fucking asshole."

"Where are you Shane?" Kendra texted adding to the five texts she'd already sent to Shane who gave her no reply. She'd been waiting for him for over an hour only for him not to show up or even have the courtesy to call or text her. Hell he could've even sent a pigeon. It'd have been better than keeping her waiting this long.

"What an asshole. Literally making me waste my day off for no damn reason" She mumbled to herself putting her head down. It didn't help that she'd only gotten four hours of sleep the night before. Well she guessed she was to blame, Curt too but that was besides the point.

"Hey" A masculine voice spoke causing her to shoot her head up. It wasn't Shane, obviously not. It was one of the waiters at the diner.

"Miss, I'm here with the check." He said politely. She nodded taking out some money from her purse. Of course she ordered food. If anyone thinks a girl could stay for a whole hour at a diner doing practically nothing and not get hungry while waiting for her stupid boss that person deserved to be impaled. "Thank you"

"Anytime." She said looking at her watch. 10:08. It was obvious Shane had left her for dead. She had to go back to the hotel and get some hopefully get a few hours of sleep before the house show and of course, to see her nice boss Vince Russo who sent someone to sexually harass her that she was sure she was sure to cross paths with at least twice tomorrow.

Life was so sweet wasn't it, could things get any worse?

That question was answered with a loud sound of thunder which immediately caused all the lights in the diner to go off causing a total blackout.

So the answer was yes. Things could get a whole lot worse.

"Miss it looks like there's a storm coming, you're welcome to stay here and wait for it to pass or..."

"Don't worry. My hotel isn't that far away. I'll just walk fast." She said grabbing her bag and made her way out of the diner. "Shit" She mumbled wrapping her arms around her chest as she was suddenly exposed to the cold winds which pulsed through the air an indication that indeed a storm was brewing. Taking a deep breath she began her journey back to the hotel. "God help me if the storm starts now" She thought to herself she continued walking trying to block out the sound of the thunder which mixed with the usual noisy NYC sound resulting in n inharmonious disturbance which caused her great disturbance.

It was at that moment the phone in her hand began to ring. She turned it over to see it was Shane who was calling her. She rolled her eyes but picked it up nonetheless.

"Kendra, I'm so sor..." A groggily sounding Shane spoke.

"Listen if you weren't my boss I'd have a few four letter words I'd like you to hear" Kendra spat trying to control the rage seething within her. He had some nerve didn't he? To call her after standing her up in a meeting he proposed. On her day off nonetheless. How could someone be so fucking rude?

"I know I deserve all that and more but..."

"Shane, one whole hour. One hour. I waited for you. A whole fucking hour Shane. If this was a prank or something or an attempt to make me look foolish congrats you've succeeded."

"Kendra, will you just listen to me?!" He yelled making her shut up for a few seconds in order to hear him out. "I was drunk okay and I still have no idea how..."

"Goodnight Shane" She said hanging up. If that was the so called 'nicest McMahon' then she wondered how the hell the others were. Stupid bosses and their stupid assholeness.. Maybe she was better off at ECW or WCW.

Maybe.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard another round of thunder which was accompanied by a flash of lightning. Almost immediately the downpour of rain had begun, progressively becoming worse each second. Kendra groaned loudly as she increased her pace of walking back to the hotel but it was of no use as she slid and slipped on the now wet sidewalks of New York.

"Fuck. Fuck Shane. Fuck this weather. Fuck everything!" She cried out trying to get back on her feet. As she did so she noticed a black car with tinted windows slowly moving towards her until it finally came to a stop and parked a few meters away from her. Her heart pumped faster as she tried eagerly to get on her feet and make a run for it but to no avail. Suddenly the car door opened and a hooded figure emerged. "So this is the end for me always thought it would have something to do with Bret though. Well I had a good run I guess." She thought as fear pulsed through her veins as the hooded figure made it's way towards her before finally unveiling theirself. Holy Fuck.

"I thought you looked familiar. What the hell are you doing on the floor weird girl?!" Steve Austin yelled. Kendra gave him a nervous smile.

"Well you see I was just hanging out here, That's what I love doing during a storm" She said with a sarcastic smile as Austin rolled his eyes.

"Need some help?" That was obviously a rhetorical question as he had already gone over there to help her get back on her feet. "Better now? Good. Now get in. You're soaking wet" He told he. She nodded getting into his rental and slamming the door shut. He got in barely a few seconds later. "So in all seriousness, what were you doing out there? I can count a number of bad things that could've happened if I didn't show up when I did ranging from pneumonia to getting mugged. What were you thinking?"

"I..."

"You could've seriously been hurt, struck by lightning, kidnapped..."

"Steve..."

"Shot, raped, I mean where the hell were you even coming from? God knows what your brother would've done to me if I was the son of a bitch who found you lying down here after being..."

"Austin! For the love of God shut up!" She yelled. "None of this is my fucking fault okay! It's stupid Shane McMahon who made me wait at that stupid diner for a stupid meeting he wanted to have with stupid me who fell for it thinking it was..." Her rambling was cut off abruptly when she noticed the angry expression on Steve's face. Oops. Not to sound cliche or anything but if looks could kill...

"Never and I mean never in your life say that to me again or you're gonna regret it" Steve said. She nodded quickly as she watched him turn on the car. "There're some napkins under your seat, if you haven't noticed your hands are bleeding." He said in his gruff voice as she looked down at her hands. There were a lot of scratches on her hands with a little blood to accompany it. She guessed it was from the fall. She probably didn't notice it due to high levels of Adrenalin which was flowing through her at that moment. She definitely did now and boy it hurt like a son of a bitch.

Thanks a lot Shane.

"Thanks Austin" She mumbled. Austin didn't give any answer as he kept his eyes on the road. Kendra sighed. She guessed she really upset him. She didn't mean to especially after he'd saved her ass. "I'm sorry Steve, I didn't mean to yell at you especially after you saved my bacon. Please forgive me" She pleaded. She heard Steve grunt in annoyance. Not as her but at the traffic ahead which they'd inevitably been caught in.

To answer the question earlier, yes things could get much worse.

"Kendra" Steve called out making her look over at him as she continued to clean her wounds. "I'm not angry at you because you yelled at me. Quite frankly I couldn't give two shits" He said. She gave out a huge sigh of relief briefly calming down. Though she got right on the edge once more as she fully understood what he meant.

If he wasn't pissed off at her because she yelled at him then what really pissed him off? Luckily she didn't have to wait long for an answer.

"Do you really wanna know why I'm angry?" Kendra nodded. "I'm angry because you couldn't heed the little piece of advice I gave you just a couple hours ago." Steve said noticing the look of confusion on Kendra's face. "Hello, when I saw you coming out of Hennig's room"

"I'm sorry but how do these two relate?" She asked. Really. She didn't see any relationship between the two situations. Unless he meant...

"Uh hello. Sleeping around? Hanging out with Vince's son publicly? Do I have to spell it out? In this business your reputation matters more than anything and the last thing you need to be painted as is 'the girl who wasn't satisfied enough with her last name who decided to resort to sleeping to the top'. I was just trying to help you but getting involved with the boss's son won't..." Austin was cut off mid sentence by roaring laughter coming from Kendra which persisted for a few more seconds. "At least one of us is getting a kick out of this"

"Trust me it's that funny. Listen not that it's any of your business but I feel I just have to tell you this to clear the image you have of me"

"I don't think you're a..."

"I'm not sleeping with Shane. He just wanted to meet up with me to discuss a few things and me being me I thought I was in trouble or something or that my oh so wonderful boss Vince Russo had lied to him about something I 'supposedly' did or whatnot because he wants me to give him more ideas and all that bullshit I won't bore you with the details but anyways..." Kendra paused taking a look at Steve, He had a look on his face that she couldn't quite decipher that stood somewhere between disbelief and curiosity. "Should I stop?"

"No continue. I wanna see where this is going" He said with a chuckle clearly a bit amused.

"Okay... anyways deep down I thought he was gonna finally thank me for helping with the stupid creative team bullshit but no once again I have been played for a fool because Vince's son apparently got too drunk to honor a meeting with me and now thanks to him I'm cold and wet with stinging cuts on my hand. So to cut a long story short, no I'm not sleeping with Shane and no I'm not trying to sleep my way to the top. Also I'm tired as hell so excuse my borderline crazy ranting" She said as Steve gave out a laugh.

"Well I believe you" Steve said. Kendra heaved a huge sigh of relief. "And believe me this has been the most entertaining ten minutes of my day so I gotta hand it out to ya"

"Oh thank you. Thank you" She laughed playfully. "That clears it up? You know you practically accusing me of being a slut? I was hurt by the way but I just let it slide"

"Sorry. But it's been a busy day. I just got here like less than an hour ago and you can imagine how pissed off I was seeing you on the sidewalk. A little part of me told me to leave you there"

"Hey!" She exclaimed, lightly hitting his arm.

"I said a little part. But I just decided to do the right thing. There was no reason to hit me"

"Oh come on that didn't even hurt that much Mr. Stone Cold" She teased as they shared a laugh together.

"So what do you really mean by 'creative ideas' you work on the creative team?"

"Well technically but actually kinda no"

"Such good grammar" He joked. She rolled her eyes.

"As I was saying, the creative ideas I meant... okay how am I sure you're gonna believe me now?"

"Try me. This evening has taught me to keep an open mind. And you see this traffic doesn't look like it's clearing up anytime soon so lay it o..." He said with a smirk.

"It was my idea for you to win the King of the Ring and feud with Bret and start sales on the Austin 3:16 shirts and probably ultimately win the title but Russo never gave me the credit and... Hey you promised you'd believe me!"

"I mean it's a little far fetched but..." Austin paused taking a look at the girls face. Did she have a reason to lie to him? Yes she actually did. But then again.

"Great." She said with a sigh. "Just forget I said any..."

"No! You know what I kinda believe you. I mean Russo never liked me and all the signs were pointing at Hunter for the King of the Ring thing before the Madison Square Garden stuff..."

"Curtain call" She corrected. "Or at least that's what people call it"

"Okay... If what you're saying is true kid then I owe you an apology. And of course if I find out you're lying..." Steve said driving off once again as the traffic began to clear a little. Kendra rolled her eyes.

"What reason do I have to lie to you? If it gets out only God knows what Russo would do to me next" She mumbled.

"Wait, what do you mean next?" Steve asked glancing at her for a second before immediately darting his eyes right back to the road. She kept quiet. "Weird girl..."

"It's Kendra"

"Weird girl" He said louder completely ignoring what she said. "What do you mean next? Has he done something to you before or..." Austin was interrupted by a clap of thunder which made both of them jump a little bit. "Fucking bastard"

"Who're you talking to?" She asked chuckling.

"This stupid ass storm that's who. Hell the weather report said it was gonna be Sunny all through this week."

"Even at night?"

"Don't get smart with me, you know what I meant" He said as she gave an innocent smile. "And we're here"

"Thanks a lot Steve"

"Hey not so fast" He said as she was about to get out of the car. "What the hell are you think you're doing? You can't walk out during a storm! Are you nuts?" Steve asked clearly convinced that she had lost her mind.

"Oh come on, how bad could it be?" She asked as she got out of the car. Barely ten seconds later she rushed back in drenched in water. "So just like I was saying, how can I go out during a storm? Am I nuts?"

"Well I only have an umbrella but I don't see how I can grab my bags and share an umbrella with you at the same time. Plus, I'm no gentleman so you can bet I'm not gonna give you the umbrella to you and let myself get drenched" Kendra rolled her eyes. "What was that?"

"Nothing" She said quickly as her eyes lit up almost immediately.

"Are you alright?"

"I have an idea" She said an evil smirk plastering itself on her face. Steve let out a groan. "Oh don't be like that Austin"

This was by far one of the most disturbing nights of his life. And he once wrestled the Ultimate Warrior and lost!

"That'll be room 418, Mr. Heartbreak Kid" The receptionist said to Shawn with a sultry voice. "Want me to come check up on you later after my shift?" She said biting her lip. Before Shawn could reply the loud screams of two distinct voices were heard distracting both him, the receptionists and all the other hotel guests that were present in the lobby at that time.

"Coming through, make way!" Kendra screamed perched on the back of Austin as the Texan ran into the hotel lobby. "See I told you that was a good idea" She said with a giggle as she jumped off Austin's back taking the umbrella with her.

"You're a little witch. And how come you're that heavy?" Austin said falling to his knees in attempt to catch his breath.

"You don't comment about a woman's weight ever"

"Whatever." Austin said noticing the hotel guests including Shawn and some of their colleagues looking at them like they were ghosts. "Do you guys have a problem with me?" He asked and almost immediately everyone had gone back to what they were doing before. That is except Shawn who kept his eyes on the interesting looking pair.

"Uh rough night?" Shawn asked Kendra who was dripping wet. She nodded.

"You have no idea. I got stuck in the middle of the storm. Luckily Steve here was there to provide a minor assistance" She said with a smirk.

"Minor assistance?! I saved her sorry ass" The man yelled getting up from his kneeling position as Kendra giggled.

"What he said. Thanks again Austin. You're alright" She said grinning at him. He gave her a small smile in response.

"So are you, weird girl"

"Kendra" She corrected.

"Weird girl, yeah gotcha" He said. She rolled her eyes.

"Whatever. Time to head up. Catch you around Shawn" She said heading towards the stairs. Yeah, the stairs. She no longer used elevators at night. Go figure.

"She's kinda cool. Don't you think?" Steve said to Shawn as he collected him hotel room key from the receptionist. "A little bitch too but still cool"

"Two more days" Shawn mumbled which made Austin give him a weird look. "I meant, yeah she is cool I guess"

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

It was about 4am when Vince Russo was awoken by a light knock on his door. Groaning he yelled out a sleepy 'Who's there' as he gave a loud yawn.

"Martina sir" A female voice called out. That alone was enough to send him flying out of his bed and straight to the hotel door as he opened the door for the girl who appeared before him wearing a nightgown.

"How nice to see you dear. So tell me, did it work?" He asked with an evil gleam in his eyes. She nodded.

"Yes, I spiked his coke and he was out like a light bulb before you could say 'Vincent Kennedy McMahon'" She said. The man grinned as he was happy his little plan had worked. He had heard Shane on the jet when he was with Sable in the plane asking for Kendra's number saying he wanted to meet up with her when the arrived at New York. Thinking fast, he got one of the maids who worked on Vince's private jet to give Shane some alcohol as it was common language that the McMahon had a low alcohol tolerance.

"Excellent. I knew I could count on you. And believe me you will be duly rewarded" He said. "Have a goodnight"

"Wait, sir..." She said stopping him from closing the door all the way. "...I'm scared. What if he finds out I'm the one who did it?"

"You worry too much. Like I said, I'll make sure nothing happens to you. You have my word on that. Now go back to sleep girl" She sighed and walked away as Vince slammed the door shut.

Everything was going according to plan. He knew it was a huge risk to take allowing Shane to talk to Kendra as he had become a little suspicious lately. The last thing he needed was for anyone to jeopardize his position as the head of creative in the World Wrestling Federation especially not a dispensable intern like Kendra.

It was time he gave her another warning. If you play with fire, you get burned.

That was a wrap with Chapter 11! To be honest while writing this I felt like the chapter was all over the place especially the Steve and Kendra thing but I had to do that in order to solidify the foundation of the friendship. I did tell you guys that Austin, Shane and Taker will have bigger roles as the story continues.

Speaking of the story, The Hart family knows something Kendra doesn't, why is Bret so keen on not letting her know what's up? Steve had some interesting impressions of Kendra and Vince Russo is a jerk as always. Will Shane find out what happened? Wait and find out.

Once again don't forget to follow, favorite and review! Mama needs those. Thanks you guys for the support and we will meet again in Chapter 12.
Stay safe. COVID-19 is a jabroni and much more annoying than Vince Russo. Peace.
