Chapter 12 - Time After Time
"You look incredibly happy today" Kendra commented sarcastically on Shawn's moody face as they arrived exactly the same time at the arena where a house show was being held that day. "Who pissed you off? Bret?"
"I wish it was him. Then I could just annoy him like I always do by hanging around you" Shawn said with a smirk as Kendra rolled her eyes. "But no, it's not that. It's more of a personal prob..." He stopped as he took notice of what she was wearing; a sports bra and yoga shorts with converse. "Uhh..."
"Eyes up here Shawn, I've had boobs for eight years, it's a little late for you to just notice" She joked with a giggle. Shawn snapped out of his mini trance, blinking as he tore his eyes away from her.
"I wasn't... you were..." Shawn said trying to find his words but failing causing Kendra to giggle more. "I mean, I've seen better" He said acting cool once more.
"Good to know Mr. HBK." She said with a smirk as they both shared a laugh.
"So, where are you going all dazzled up like that? It's a little too hot for work, not that I'm saying you're hot or anything after all I have seen better but you know it's hot for work, well at least your work" Shawn said as they got to the entrance door. "After you madame" Shawn said in a faux French accent as he opened the door for her.
"Ohh qui qui, merci beaucoup, Monsieur." She teased. He rolled his eyes.
"Show off. Of course the Canadian girl can speak French better than me. Now get in already before I change my mind and close the door." She stuck her tongue out at him but got in nonetheless. "A thank you is kinda in order" Kendra turned around with a confused look on her face.
"What do you mean?"
"I opened the door for you, in a gentlemanly way. I think I deserve a..."
"Yeah, yeah I know that already. What the hell do you think Merci beaucoup means?" She asked on the brink of laughter. Shawn scratched the back of his head not knowing what to say. "There's no shame in not knowing how to speak Francais, you could always come to me for classes you know? A thousand bucks per hour"
"Sure" He said giving her a sarcastic smile. "Like I'd pay that much, to you of all people" Kendra gasped. "What?"
"Oh come on Shawn, I thought you loved me" She said with puppy dog eyes.
"And you rejected me remember." He said a frown briefly coming over his face before it changed right back to a cocky smirk without Kendra noticing. "But of course I could care less because as you know, I'm the Heart Break Kid and yeah, the ladies dig me and obviously there is something wrong with you" He said making her laugh.
"Whatever you say Michaels."
"So back what I was on before I was rudely interrupted by you, why are you dressed so hot for work?"
"It's all on your girlfriend, you see..."
"Wait hold on..." Shawn said cutting her off. "...I don't have a girlfriend. If you mean Sunny then..." Kendra sighed.
"Yes, you know what I mean." She said rolling her eyes. "But anyways, she wanted to go through some moves apparently she and Sable have a match today. So I'm helping her brush off a little before the show starts." Kendra said as they got to a door labelled in bold letters 'HBK' "Guess this is your stop Michaels, I'll see you..."
"Not so fast Kendy, great name I know. I wanna come watch" Shawn said. Kendra raised an eyebrow. "And no, it's not because I wanna see two hot girls go wre..."
"I wasn't thinking that at all" She said sarcastically as she folded her arms over her chest.
"Like I said..." Shawn said in a louder voice purposely ignoring her previous statement. "...it's not like I wanna see two hot girls go at it but I wanna see if you're really a better wrestler than me like you guys said. Because let's be honest, is anyone really better than Shawn Michaels?"
"You've got yourself a deal Shawn. Let the whole world know... well at it's only you but you will know that indeed, I am better than the showstopper himself." She said as they made their way to the ring.
"You better than me? Hell needs to freeze over twice, and even then you can't come close" Shawn said cockily. Whether he felt something for her or not, there was no way in hell she was better than him. Did she know him, he was Shawn freaking Michaels. But nonetheless, he wanted to humor her.
It also wouldn't help to see two hot girls wrestle in the ring. Now that was a show.
"Look who finally made it here on time, her royal highness herself" Sunny said sarcastically before taking note of who was walking with Kendra. Her eyes narrowed at them for a second in confusion. "Shawn darling, what are you doing here?"
"That's the key word on time. There was never a rush to get here early and you know it, but I got here on time." Kendra said putting her hair up in a ponytail as she got into the ring with Sunny. "And as for Shawn, I met him the way. The idiot wanted to see if I could really wrestle" She said as Shawn sent her a wink before hopping over the barricade to seat in one of the front row chairs. Sunny had a look of confusion written all over her face as she turned to Kendra.
"Umm... I thought you two were fighting, when did you guys make up?" She asked with a nervous laugh. Kendra raised an eyebrow wondering why Sunny was asking. Sure she and Shawn were 'dating' but that really wasn't any of Sunny's business. "I'm just asking, he looked pretty angry that day at Waffle house after you'd left" She said trying to remove the suspicion, it worked a little as Kendra visibly calmed down.
"Uh... yeah, we made up. The fight was stupid. Let's not worry about that now" Kendra said. Sunny nodded with a fake smile.
"Yes, I'd hate for you two not to get along. Anyways, we have about an hour more or less before the show starts, that should do right?" Sunny asked changing the topic abruptly though she was eager to learn something new which was why she begged and pleaded with Kendra to be her 'unofficial but actually totally real trainer'. Sunny felt that it would do her justice to hone her wrestling skills a little and Kendra...
Well Kendra had just resigned to the fact that she'd never get the rest she needs as long as she was in the WWF.
"Yeah, an hour should do. So what do you really wanna work on? Submissions, power moves, some aerial or high fl..."
"Baby!" Sunny squealed running out of the ring leaving Kendra in a confused state. Was baby an aspect of wrestling? Slowly Kendra turned around and her confused look quickly turned into a frown as she saw Sunny hugging the man she referred to as 'Baby'. Kendra cringed inwardly as she saw Sunny plant a kiss on the man's lips.
None other than Skip aka. Chris Candido.
The universe had really been out to get her this past couple of weeks and she had no idea why.
Don't get her wrong, she had nothing against Chris, hell she had never even had a conversation with him to begin with. But she wondered how she could be in the same vicinity with the man without being uncomfortable. Luckily for her, she didn't have to wait much longer as he got into the ring with Sunny.
"Babe, this is my new annoying but super cool gal pal Kendra Hart, and Kends this is Chris Candido. My boyfriend" Sunny said beaming brightly with a smile. Kendra glanced nervously at Shawn who just had a poker face on. She sighed putting on a little smile as she shook Chris's outstretched hand which she actually hadn't noticed before.
"Nice to meet you Kendra, Sunny has said a lot you. Good things I might add" Chris said as Sunny laughed wrapping her arm around his waist. Kendra laughed nervously.
"Yeah, you too. Sunny, a word?" She said as the blonde woman nodded.
"Sure, you staying honey?" She asked referring to Chris who nodded.
"Yeah sure, I love to see my girl in action" Chris said kissing Sunny's temple. "I'll just sit over there with Shawn." He said getting outta the ring heading over to where Shawn was seated. "My man, it's been awhile..."
Kendra couldn't help but cringe as she saw Chris and Shawn interact. This whole situation was pretty weird. It was easier when she just imagined Sunny and Shawn dating with a non existent Chris Candido and even then it was pretty hard. It also didn't help that Chris seemed to be a really nice guy and he seemed to be a nice and chill guy.
"Yeah, what's up?" Sunny asked.
"Sunny, how can you be calm right now? I mean just look over there" Kendra motioned over to Shawn and Chris who were talking. Well Chris was talking, Shawn on the other hand was just staring at the girls wondering what the hell they were talking about.
"What's the big deal Kends?" Sunny asked with a bored expression on her face. She was joking right? How could she not see the big deal?
"Sunny... how can... I mean... what?" Kendra was lost for words not really sure how to speak English anymore. Sunny smirked.
"Relax chica, you're just adjusting. Very soon you'll see it's no big deal. And to be fair, this isn't really your business, it's my life so let me be. So please don't bring this up again, okay honey?" Sunny said with a grin as she playfully ruffled Kendra's hair. "Let's wrestle"
Kendra sighed once more, maybe she was complaining for no reason and after all it had nothing to do with her. She couldn't help but feel guilty as she looked over at a happy go lucky Chris Candido who seemed to have nothing but utter admiration for Sunny. How could you cheat on that? What kinda person does that? It would take her a while to fully wrap her head around whatever the hell was going on. But one thing went through her mind.
She'd definitely made the wrong choice of friends. Not just with Sunny but with Shawn too. Sooner or later, it would come back and bite her in the ass.
"...God, these ropes are too damn painful who would've thought?" Sunny complained falling down on the mat. Kendra had just suggested that she'd run the ropes and test her agility before they get into learning some aerial moves but Sunny was having none of it as she collapsed just five minutes into the running of the ropes. Sunny's body wasn't built for flying. Her words.
"What did you think?" Kendra asked with a chuckle. "You need to get used to the ropes and the turnbuckle. They're gonna be your best friend if you really wanna be a high flyer"
"Hell no, high flying is outta the picture. I wonder how Shawn manages, but all I know is my body wasn't built for it. God I wanna faint" Sunny said in between deep breathes.
"Okay chill Miss. Diva. there's really nothing to it. But if you want we could skip the running ropes thing, it's not really that big of a deal" Kendra said with a shrug as Sunny had a look of pure shock written on her face.
"Then why did you make me...?"
"Easy there, it was something my dad loved training people with. It builds toughness, speed, agility, stamina, ruthl..."
"Okay I get it" Sunny said rolling her eyes.
"Hey Kendra!" Shawn called out. "I haven't seen any moves. You're supposed to be better than me remember!" He teased. She smirked and simply flipped him the bird. "Rude, proves you're not better than me"
"Shut up Shawn, you're being a distraction" Shawn smiled.
"Sure. I know I'm irresistible and all but right now you're just making excuses. Good excuses too though" Shawn said with a smirk making Kendra roll her eyes.
"Whatever, I'm ignoring you now" She said turning back to Sunny. "Nobody called Shawn is in the room. Shawn? Shawn? Where are you? I can't see you" She said making Chris chuckle. Shawn smirked at her deciding to be quiet as Kendra got her in ring work. Shawn had to admit, though he was sure he'd never say it aloud but Kendra was a damn good wrestler. Not as good as he was but hey, is anyone really?
He watched as she tried teaching Sunny a variety of moves which ranged from submissions, hurricanas, to different types of kicks to his personal favorites; the high flying moves. She officially won him over when she did a beautiful 450 splash on Sunny. He still made his teasing side critique comments here and there, why wouldn't he? But on the inside he was impressed and it certainly made her more interesting to him.
"You call that a 450 splash Kendy?! My dog has better moves than that. And she says she's better than me" Shawn teased.
"Blah, blah, Sunny can you hear anyone called Shawn in the premises? Cause I sure as hell am not" Kendra said locking up with Sunny once again. "And he doesn't even have a dog"
"That's it, time out. I'm tired!" Sunny snapped getting out of the ring. Of course Chris was right by her side in a heartbeat tending to her various wounds. Sunny couldn't help but scowl as she saw Shawn and Kendra resume in their teasing comments/what she saw as flirting. She was sick and tired of it.
Throughout the time they wrestled, she couldn't focus or learn anything noteworthy due to the snide and teasing comments Shawn made literally every five seconds. It was obvious he was flirting with her but did he have tobe so...Ugh! It was obvious that her and Bret's plan had failed and she was gonna make a note to tell him about it. But she couldn't shake off the fact that it bugged her. It was all Kendra this, Kendra that. Barf.
And Shawn didn't even say anything about her! Come to think of it, they hadn't even said a word to each other that day.
Something was seriously wrong.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
It was a good day. The house show was good so far as others have been in the past and Vince Russo was nowhere in sight as Kendra learnt he wasn't feeling too well so couldn't make it to the arena. Shame. But automatic day off for Kendra who spent most of the time lying down on the couch in Curt's locker room reading Perfume: The Story of a Murderer enjoying the peace and quiet that...
"Shit!" Curt swore making her flinch at the sudden disturbance. She rolled her eyes a bit annoyed until her eyes fell on him and she saw that he was holding his ribs and was clearly hunched over in pain. She quickly ran over to him and guided him to the couch and sat down next to him. "Thanks alot sweetheart"
"What the hell happened?" She said observing his bruised torso. She gently ran her hand over it only for him to jump in pain and take her hand off it. "Sorry"
"No worries, it's just Sid." Curt said with a cough. Kendra groaned as this hadn't been the first time Sid had gotten someone injured. "Kinda funny you're the one groaning" Curt said with a smile.
"It's not funny Curt, you always get hurt when you wrestle him. Shouldn't something be done or..."
"Kendra look at me" Curt said cupping her face gently as he turned her face towards himself. "I'm fine. I know the risks of the job I'm doing. You don't need to worry about me. Okay?" She pouted. "You're cute when you pout" He told her as he poked her cheek. She rolled her eyes.
"Okay. I will keep worrying but I guess if you say you're fine..."
"I am fine. Remember I'm perf... son of a bitch" He cursed as a surge of pain from his ribs pulsed through his body. Kendra giggled a little. "Haha"
"Sorry, couldn't help it. To make it up for you, I'll go get you an ice pack from the medics okay" She said standing up from the couch. "Anything else?"
"No I'm good sweetheart. All I just want right now is some rest but I guess that will do for now" Curt said with a smile. She nodded, giving him a kiss on the cheek before she scurried off looking for an ice pack for her friend in need.
On her way back to Curt's locker room she couldn't help but notice Sunny and Sable's match was ongoing and so far Sable had the upper hand after a botched hurricana from Sunny. Kendra winced. They probably should've gone over that move a few more times.
"Enjoying the match?" A familiar voice spoke from behind her. She groaned as she turned around to face him with a glare on her face. "Did I say something wrong?"
"I'm not in the mood to talk Shane" She said walking away. She heard his footsteps from behind her and sighed. What the hell did he want with her? Wasn't last night's embarrassment enough?
"Well I am if you'd just hear me out" She stopped walking when she heard him say that and turned around. "Good so if I can explain..."
"Explain what Shane? I get it you got drunk and forgot that we were supposed to meet up. It's cool. I was inches away from getting pneumonia but it's cool. Everything's cool. Can I go now?" She began to walk away when Shane grabbed her by the arm tightly sending a surge of pain through her body. "Ow! Let me go"
"Chill for a second. Are you always this passive aggressive?" He asked her not realizing how tight his grip on her arm was. "Please can we just talk even if it's just for..."
"Let go"
"I just want to explain"
"Let me go Shane, you're hurting me!" She said in a louder voice as some stagehands and other backstage crew heard them. Shane nervously smiled at them trying to show them that everything was okay as Kendra continued to struggle.
"Listen you're causing a scene if you could just let me ex..."
"Shane I don'r wanna hear any stupid explanation please just..."
"Let her go" The deep voice of Bret Hart spooked Shane back to his senses as he immediately released his grip on Kendra. He hadn't realized how tightly he held her until he saw the red mark on her toned skin. "Beat it, I'm sure daddy won't be happy to hear that you're harassing innocent interns and he sure as hell would be pissed when he learns it's my sister. Now scram" Shane looked back and forth from the older man to the girl before walking away. Kendra rolled her eyes at him.
"Fucking asshole. Thanks Bret..." That was the nicest thing he'd done for her in a while. But of course Bret will always be Bret, Time After Time.
"Why the fuck was he harassing you? What the hell are you even doing talking the boss's son? You're just an intern for crying out loud!" He yelled. She opened her mouth to speak but was silenced when he started to talk once again. "And why the hell are you dressed like that? God!" He said running a hand down his face in frustration. "You're making yourself a target. How many times do I have to repeat that most of the guys here are scum and..."
Speak indirectly of the devil and he may appear. Kendra's breath hitched as she noticed Billy Gunn walk past them giving her a small wink which went unnoticed by Bret who was still rambling on. She let out a shiver.
"Hello, I'm fucking talking to you!" He yelled snapping her out of her thoughts. "What more do I have to do to make you realize that I'm just trying to protect you! Stop playing the slut card for once in your life and just..."
"Shut up!" She yelled at him. He paused for a moment not believing those words actually came out of her mouth. "Stop fucking dictating my social life it's annoying as fuck and on top of it all you're calling me a slut? Are you for real?!" She wasn't done there. It was word vomit "And you claim that you wanna protect me and all that bullshit. Yet you can't even do your fucking job right!" She yelled with tears forming in her eyes. Bret froze. What the hell did she mean by that? "You know what, I'm done. Goodbye Bret" She said walking away.
"Kendra wait..."
"No" She said sharply as she continued walking away from him. Nothing he said or did could make her turn back. Absolutely nothing. She was done with his BS.
"Elijah's been released from prison!" Bret called out making her come to a halt. She turned around walking back to him not believing what she'd just heard. "I'm sorry Mom's been bugging me to tell you and... I'm sorry" He said with a sigh preparing for the worst reaction possible from Kendra. Instead he was met with an indifferent reaction from is little sister. Who just shrugged.
"Okay... I don't really care" She said with a shrug as she pressed her lips into a thin line. WHAT THE HELL?
"Kendra, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I don't see the big deal. We broke up years ago. He's not my business anymore" She said with an unreadable expression etched on her face. "Now if you'd excuse me I have to go" She said finally walking away from him. To say Bret was confused was the understatement of a century.
What just happened?
He hadn't realized how long he stood there until he was broken out of his trance by none other than the 'lovely' Sunny.
"Bret, shit thank God you're here we have a major problem with Shaw..." She started only to be cut off by a 'shh' sound from Bret. "...what the hell Bret? Why are you shushing me?"
"Because I have bigger fish to fry. Something's seriously wrong with my sister and I have to try fix it" Bret said walking away from the confused blonde.
She sure as hell was confused. What was up with everyone?
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
"Yeah... I don't really care... so what, we broke up like how many years ago why would I care?... Yes I'm fine... Listen Owen I gotta go... Yes I'm working out I have a lot of untapped energy... It's perfectly normal to do so at night... I'm okay trust me... Yeah I love you too... Goodnight" Kendra sighed as she ended the call. She couldn't realize why everyone was expecting her to be so weird. Her ex-boyfriend was released from jail.
Did she care? Not in the very least. She was as calm as a bird, Yes calm.
It had nothing to do with why she was aggressively attacking the punching bag at the hotel gym at the middle of the night. She was calm unlike you judging readers. Perfectly calm.
"Whoa, what the hell did that poor gym bag ever do to you?" Shawn asked with a smirk as he stepped into the gym in need of a workout himself. She hadn't even heard him come in and ignored his statement as she delivered a final punch to the bag causing it to snap from where it was hung as it fell flat on the floor. Shawn was wide eyed as he saw literally no emotion on Kendra's face after the show of ruthless aggression.
"Nothing. I just wanted to work out. No biggie" She said with a shrug. "Time to move on to the next piece of gym equipment" She said only for Shawn to hold her back. "I'm giving you to the count of three before I..."
"Easy there tiger. I'm not gonna let you break another piece of hotel gym equipment. At least not until you tell me what's wrong" He said. Judging by her body language she seemed upset. Also not counting the vein on her forehead which kept on twitching and of course, DID YOU JUST SEE WHAT SHE DID TO THE PUNCHING BAG?
"And what makes you think something is wrong..." She said breaking away from his grip as she moved over to the treadmill. "...if you wanna work out here fine. But know your role and shut your mouth" Shawn sighed.
This was gonna be a long night.
Yes another chapter done. Uh huh. Shawn and Kendra are civil towards one another. Sunny is suspicious but no one seems to be paying her any attention. Poor Shane in this chapter hopefully he'll find out what happened and get Kendra to listen. Bret's mood flips from hot to cold more than a thermostat but at least he finally told Kendra so bravo for him. And Chris Candido? Bless his soul.
That's all for today peeps. Till next time. Don't forget to review, favorite an follow! Mama needs them. And also about those books I talked about in the last chapter, I hope I overcome this sudden surge of laziness and post at least one very soon Lol.
As always Stay absolutely Safe, the jabroni COVID-19 will soon cease to exist. Peace.
