Chapter 13 - Love Is History

"What got you so hot and heavy tonight?" Shawn joked as he picked up some weights. Kendra rolled her eyes and ignored him. "Oh come on, a problem half shared is solved" Shawn said proudly until he realized that what he sounded a bit off. "Wait, lemme rephrase that..."

"Actually dumbass it's a problem shared is half solved. And I don't have any problem. Can you stop bothering me now please?" Kendra said in a hostile tone surprising Shawn as she began to run on the treadmill already getting more pissed at him by the minute. Why won't he just leave her alone?

"Okay, gee." He said as they worked out in silence for a few more minutes before he decided to speak up. "Are you alright now?"

"I'm always alright now is no different" She said in a monotonic voice which almost... no scratch that. Which actually sounded like she meant the opposite of what she said. Shawn gave her a puzzled look.

"Well you don't look like it, are you sure alright?" He asked showing more concern.

"Shawn, I'm fine"

"I don't buy it, something is obviously..."

"Listen I get it you're 'madly in love with me' or something an you wanna feel like you're doing something worthwhile but back off, I'm not in the mood" She snapped. Shawn laughed nervously as he ran a hand through his hair, how nice of her to say that. He tried not to let her insult get to him. She was pissed off alright, but all he wanted to do was to know what was going on and see how he could help.

"Okay, I'll just ignore that. I dunno who pissed you off but..."

"For God sake Shawn leave me alone! Continue your stupid workout and leave me the fuck alone!" She yelled. It's not like she was angry or anything but he was being really annoying, why didn't he just leave her alone? She thought all that as she continued her workout completely ignoring Shawn and not showing even the tiniest bit of remorse for what she just did.

Shawn was stunned into silence.

All he'd just come down for was to get a little bit of a late workout on and get his mind off his pending break up with Sunny. Working out had relieved him of some mental stress in the past and it wasn't gonna be different this time, or was it?

He couldn't focus when there was a huge elephant in the room in the form of Kendra who was acting very strange and dare he say, a bit bitchy. He instantly knew something was wrong with her but he had no idea how to address it or what to think of it. Kendra was not a completely cheerful, perky happy go lucky kinda girl no, she was more mellow, sarcastic and was kinda passive aggressive sometimes but this... this was like nothing he'd ever seen before. He almost dared to ask her if she was alright again because a little part of him told him that she might get physical if he pisses her off more. So he'd give her what she wanted, silence.

"Oh fuck, who is that now?" Kendra mumbled to herself as she heard her phone ringing in her back pocket.

So much for silence. That lasted at least two minutes tops.

Shawn gazed at her from the corner of his eye watching her get off the treadmill and pick up her phone from her back pocket. He watched as her stone cold expression softened a little as she took a look at the name of the screen. He raised an eyebrow wondering who that special person was as he or she managed to snap her out her her 'mood'.

"Hi mom" She spoke quietly as she glanced at Shawn who quickly looked away trying not to make it obvious that he was staring at her. He did a shitty job. "Yes, mom I can hear you, just gimme a sec I have..." She paused and eyed him with an unreadable expression on her face. "...company" She finished as she walked off into one of the changing rooms with the intent on having a private call with her mother. Shawn sighed.

There goes his chance of finding out what exactly was bothering her.

"Okay mom I'm alone now" Kendra said as she was gently closed the changing room door.

"Who were you with anyway?" Helen asked with a hint of suspicion in her voice.

"No one important" Kendra shrugged. "How are you doing mom and how's dad? I miss you guys so much, Calgary too" Kendra said truthfully. She did miss them as well as her home town but quite frankly it was just a plot to change the topic the last thing her mom needed to know was that she was with a guy. In terms of her and romantic pursuits, let's say her mom had a completely different approach than Bret as in she took interest in every guy Kendra associated with becoming a potential suitor.

Honestly, she had no idea who was worse when it came to stuff like that, Bret or her mom.

"We're all fine dear and you? How's work? Are you finally considering becoming a wrestler?" Helen said with a bit of excitement in her voice.

"I'm good mom and no I don't wanna become a wrestler thank you very much." Kendra said with a laugh. Her mom and wrestling. Growing up yes, she actually did have interest in becoming a wrestler she did train a lot and made friends with almost if not all the aspiring and actual wrestlers who visited her house almost daily and also had years of training courtesy of Bret, Owen and Brian Pillman even though Bret loved to take all the credit that time.

But with time, the passion just fizzled away. She still loved the business and wanted to be apart of it but she was satisfied with writing.

"Alright, it would have been nice to see one of my daughters turn pro but I guess I can't force you."

"That's you can't mom. Well it was great talking to you but I have to go back to..."

"Not so fast..." Kendra groaned knowing where this conversation was going. "you must know the real reason I'm calling you dear"

"Because I'm your favorite child and you love me?" She said with a baby voice which made Helen laugh softly over the phone.

"Sure let's go with that" Helen said as the two women shared a laugh. "But on a more serious note, I wanna know how you're taking the news" Kendra's smile dropped as she mumbled 'shit' under her breath. "Language"

"Mom, I don't know what..."

"Bret told me he told you so don't make any excuses though I'm still furious at him for springing up on you off guard, I will be sure to pull his ears when next you visit" Helen said and Kendra could tell she wasn't joking. Forget how tough her dad was her mom was way tougher. "How're you holding up? If you need to talk about it..."

"I'm honestly okay mom. I don't get how you guys expect me to react. It's been six years, I got over it you should too" She said. She didn't get what the big deal was? Why couldn't everyone be as calm as she was?

"Honey..." Helen started in a soft, soothing motherly voice. "...do you still love Elijah?" Kendra's breath hitched. That was a loaded question which she wasn't entirely sure how to answer.

Meanwhile Shawn had been having a mental battle or whether or whether not he should eavesdrop on Kendra's conversation with her mother before finally coming to a decision that he definitely should. Not because he was a naturally nosy person, he was far from that. But he just wanted to find out what was wrong with Kendra and who else was she gonna tell other than her mom?

But soon enough Shawn wished he hadn't come over to stand at the door of the changing room at that very moment because he certainly wasn't prepared for the first and only statement he heard during Kendra's conversation with her mother.

"Of course I love Elijah mom with all my heart. I still haven't found neither do I think I will find anyone that compares to him mom. He's like the best boyfriend I've ever had..." Shawn couldn't bear to hear another second of the call as he immediately walked away from the door and made his way to his gym bag which he quickly packed up not really feeling in the mood to workout anymore as he had come to three realizations that night.

One, his chase after her had been completely worthless because she had a boyfriend. No wonder she didn't want him. She wanted to remain faithful. She'd already warned him that she could never reciprocate his feelings and now he knew why.

Two, she wasn't in any sort of bad mood. He was probably the one who put her in the bad mood. She wasn't pissed off at anyone but him and he still had no idea why.

And three, the fact that he felt a similar emotion to the one he had felt two years ago after his divorce, Heartbreak and utter devastation.

All this just because of some girl he didn't even know all that well. Was she really worth it? He didn't think so anymore. He was so blinded and confused with whatever feelings he had that he actually wanted to break up with Sunny? Hell no. His eyes were wide open now. No more Kendra, he was done.

While walking out of the gym he didn't fail to send a text to a certain blonde who he was sure would be at his doorstep in a matter of minutes. To him this was better than chasing a stupid fantasy relationship. He'd learnt his lesson alright. Never again.

"...but that is what I would have said years ago mom. Sure he still has a place in my heart but I can't forget everything that happened years ago mom. There's no way I can still be in love with someone like that mom. He hurt me, badly and that memory haunts me constantly." She said blinking away tears as she looked at herself in the mirror her eyes flickering to the scar which laid across her cheek "Whether it was his fault or not he definitely deserved to stay in jail all those years. If I ever see him and God willing I don't I'm gonna kill him there's no two ways about it mom" Kendra said with a tone of finality as she let out a deep breath. She couldn't believe she had actually said all that. The powers of a mom.

"Great now to hear that honey. I'm guessing you feel much better now. You know, now that you're not lying to yourself anymore" Helen said. Kendra could tell she was smiling and let out a huge sigh. "How do you feel now honey?"

"Better still shitty but I feel better like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Thanks mom" She said with a little smile of her own.

"Good to hear that. Talking helps try to do it more okay sweetie, it's not good to keep everything bottled up" Helen said as Kendra nodded even though she couldn't be seen. "Well now that you're all better I'll let you get back to 'no one special'" Kendra groaned as she heard her mother laughing at the other end.

"God, I thought you've forgotten about that. He's really no one special we're just working out at the gym" Kendra said her face already red with embarrassment.

"Oh, did you say 'he'? Okay have fun with Mr. No one special, I gotta go get some sleep which you probably should too" Kendra frowned as she remembered her earlier conversation with Shawn. She winced as she figured out how bitchy she acted. No one deserved that especially not someone who obviously cared to know what was wrong with her. "You didn't answer dear"

"Yeah? Sorry mom I just remembered how I acted with Sh... uh the guy. I really need to apologize. Goodnight and say hello to dad for me"

"Will do, and you go sort things out with that no one special"

"Mom!" Kendra groaned as she hung up the phone and yawned. Now that she felt better and the anger induced Adrenalin had worn off, it dawned on her that she was actually very tired and needed a rest. Also her fists ached. That stupid punching bag. She probably had to pay for it in the morning though. Destroying hotel property everyone!

Before she went off to sleep though, she knew she had one task to do. Apologize to Shawn. She had no excuse to take her anger out on Shawn and she only hoped he wasn't mad at her.

"Shawn, I just wanted to..." It was too late he was gone. Shit. He was really mad at her.

She had to sort this out... later in the morning though as she yawned once more. Now was the time to sleep but come morning she would apologize to Shawn. Yes.

Not to be smug or anything but Shawn sorta had feelings for her right? How mad could he be?

She had no idea what she had coming.

Sunny couldn't keep the smile off her face as she made her way out of Shawn's hotel room. Everything was looking bright and dare she say... sunny once again. She had soon forgotten about the weird day she had yesterday as she had been reassured that indeed Shawn still had somewhat of an attraction to her despite being distant the last few days. Even if it was just for a booty call, she didn't care. He was hers and nothing was gonna come in their way.

"Boo!" A voice yelled in her ear causing her to jump up in shock. She turned around and giggled when she saw who it was, with a smirk plastered on his handsome face.

"Haha, real funny Bret. I wonder why you get off on scaring innocent women"

"Innocent women yes, but I don't see any. You dear are a demon" He said making her giggle once again as she gave him a hug. "I guess I don't have to ask you how you're doing, you look really happy" She grinned.

"Yeah, it's a Sunny day"

"I can see that. Well I'll should get going, don't wanna put a damper on things."

"Oh nonsense Bret. You know you're cool. So what's up?" Sunny asked. Bret shook his head.

"Nothing much, I have a few interviews to meet up with. You know as the real face of the WWF. Don't mind whatever Shawn tells you." Bret said rolling his eyes. Shawn giggled.

"God, you two should grow up already. I would've thought you two would be like besties by now. You've got so much in common and..." The glare on Bret's face caused Sunny to stop right there as she cleared her throat. "Right, crazy weather we have here huh?"

"I can never have anything in common with that degenerate. You don't see me posing for playgirl" Sunny laughed.

"Oh come on, that was months ago. Must you always bring it up? There's no shame in what he did" Bret gave her a 'really' look. "Okay, so there's plenty of shame in what he did but big deal?"

"You must've been the only girl who bought that issue of... wait a minute, did you even buy it?" Sunny shook her head no as the two got into a round of laughter. Contrary to what you readers might think, she never even got close to the magazine. "You got me there Bret but that's not to say that others didn't buy it. Hell you have sisters too right, what's to say... I'll shut up now"

"Smart girl"

"Well I gotta get going. It was nice meeting you here, we should definitely hang out again one of these days maybe you, Chris and I. Or you could bring your wife whenever she comes and make it a double date. It's been a while since I've seen Julie"

"Will do." Bret said about to walk away when he quickly remembered something. "By the way, I didn't quite catch what you were saying yesterday. Sorry I had... stuff to deal with" Sunny was confused for a minute before she finally remembered what he was talking about.

"Right. Yeah. I don't think there's anything to worry about anymore" She said and couldn't help the smile which came upon her face.

"Really?" Bret said raising an eyebrow. "It seemed serious and..."

"Nope! Just a misunderstanding" Bret shrugged. "Though you were saying something about your sister, is it Kendra? Is she okay?" Sunny asked a bit worried. Forget everything else, Kendra was still her friend. Bret nodded.

"Yeah, just an issue but it's fine now" Sunny raised an eyebrow.

"What happened?"

"Kinda personal, but all that matters is that she's fine now. And you're fine too"

"I'm fine." She said. "Well, I've gotta run. We'll catch up more later" She said walking away, skipping a bit too. Bret chuckled happy to see that everything was okay with Sunny. Everything was okay generally.

His sister was okay and he'd managed to keep yet another degenerate from messing with her even though she see saw didn't realize what he was doing for her which sucked in a way but he guessed he was used to it.

His mom finally had rest of mind and so did Owen, knowing that the youngest Hart was okay.

And he was as fine as he would ever be. He guessed all's well that end's well.

But how right was he?

"Go easy with the food man, you're gonna have to put more hours in the gym" Triple H told X-Pac who had ordered three different sets of foods as breakfast and had already gone half way through while he and Shawn had barely touched theirs.

"Whatever, I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Right now I need to eat, I need the energy, the potassium, the sulfur, the chlorine..." X-Pac paused when Hunter and Shawn gave him weird looks. "...I've been learning new words, so what?" X-Pac said shrugging.

"Do you know what any of those stuff mean?" Shawn asked amusedly as he gave his friend a weird look. X-Pac scoffed.

"Do you?" He retorted. Shawn laughed taking a drink out of his water.

"Touche" Shawn simply said as X-Pac nodded feeling accomplished as the three continued eating and chatting. Within three minutes X-Pac was done eating and soon enough after Shawn and Hunter were through with theirs you know, the way normal people eat.

"I'm stuffed. What about you guys?" Hunter said reclining back on his chair.

"I dunno, I still feel a little hung,,," X-Pac complained but was silenced by a dirty look he received from Shawn. "...you know what, I'm stuffed as well" He said laughing nervously as the other two laughed along with him. "Bullies" Shawn opened his mouth to talk but was silenced when the waitress who'd served the earlier came up to them with a seductive smile on her face.

"I trust you guys enjoyed your meal, are you interested in anything else?" She said with her eyes fixed directly on Shawn as she twirled her hair in her hands trying to look cute. Shawn smirked, the ladies still loved him.

"We're good thanks, I think we'll jut take the check" Hunter said but the waitress didn't even pay any attention to him. "Uh hello, earth to... what's her name?"

"I am interested in something actually, your number perhaps" Shawn said as the mouths of the other two men dropped open in agape. The waitress grinned and pulled out a piece of paper from her bra and handed it over to Shawn.

"I thought you never asked. My name's McKenzie. Call me." She winked at him before looking over at Hunter. "The meal's on the house" She said finally before walking away not failing to sway her hips from side to side as she did so. X-Pac whistled as he was both impressed and shocked.

"I don't even know who you are anymore Shawn." He said as Shawn gave a little laugh and shoved the paper into his back pocket. "Seriously. A few days ago all you went on about was Bret's sister, Bret's sister and Bret's sister"

"He's not lying man, you were obsessed and suddenly you're back to your old ways. I have a lot of questions" Hunter said with a confused look written on his face. What was really up with Shawn these days?

"No need for questions man, let's just say I got a really harsh wake up call. I'm the Heartbreak Kid for crying out loud! I shouldn't be moping around about one silly girl. I mean, life's too short for that."

"Amen to that brother" X-Pac said laughing.

"I didn't even like her that much anyways. And now she's history" He said proudly.

"Still I still can't believe there was actually a girl Shawn couldn't get to..."

"Speak of the devil..." Hunter mumbled as the other two men turned around to see Sable and Kendra walk into the restaurant. Shawn's look quickly changed into a frown as soon as he spotted her. Did the universe really hate him that much.

"Damn" X-Pac said whistling under his breath and Shawn turned around and glared at him. "Uh... what I meant was... uh, yeah I got nothing." He said quietly as Shawn rolled his eyes and turned back to the men not wanting to keep looking at Kendra. It was about time they left anyways.

Not that her presence affected him or anything, he couldn't care less.

"...and that's for you pretty girls" The cashier told the girls as he handed them their orders. The girls thanked him and began to make their way out of the place.

"Oh God, I need that coffee like right now. Who would have thought that four hours of sleep wouldn't do me any good?" Kendra said yawning. Sable giggled.

"You never sleep. It's always one thing or another keeping you up at night. Are you alright?" She asked teasingly but with a hint of care in her voice. Kendra nodded.

"You know, just a few things here and there. Nothing really" She said. Sable shrugged as they made their way out of the building. "Just so you know, you're driving first" Sable rolled her eyes.

"Don't I always?" She said sarcastically as the two girls laughed. Kendra lazily looking around caught a familiar head of blonde hair and squinted to see if it was really who she thought it was. Her eyes widened as she realized she was indeed right. It was Triple H. Meaning Shawn was nearby. She sighed. She had to talk to him now as she might not get another chance later.

"Sabes, Uh I'll be back I just need to talk to Hunter over there... just go ahead to the car I'll meet you there" Kendra said not waiting for an answer as she walked over to where Hunter stood.

"Okay, sure. Go ahead. Why bother asking anyway?" She commented sarcastically. When did Kendra and Hunter even start talking anyways?

Kendra was not mistaken it was Hunter. She quickly ran up to him.

"Hunter!" She called out. He turned around in confusion wondering where the voice was coming from. He turned to his side seeing a familiar looking brunette running over to him and smiled. "Hunter" She said coming to a stop as she struggled to catch her breath.

"Hey there little one" He said ruffling her hair a little causing her to smack his hand away from her. "It's been a while, how've you been?"

"Uh... I've been good, good. Yeah it's been a while. I just wanted to ask if you've seen Shawn? I really need to talk to him" Kendra asked. Hunter scratched the back of his head nervously. What the hell was he supposed to say? Judging by Shawn's reaction earlier he could guess the man didn't want to see her. But nonetheless, he had to do the right thing.

"No, actually I think he's still at the hotel. Uh... yeah. I came here with X-Pac. He should be here soon, in fact I'll go see what's taking him so long but you... you take care" Hunter said not allowing her to get another word in before running away leaving a disappointed Kendra standing there. The girl sighed and went back to meet Sable with the intent on driving to the next city. The guilt still running through her mind.

"What do you mean she came to see me? What the hell did she want?" Shawn spat bitterly.

"I dunno, but I told her you were still at the hotel. She looked disappointed"

"She did?" Shawn asked before clearing his throat. "Uh, I mean... oh she did. Well that's not my problem. Now if you don't mind we have a trip to make. I'm in the car if you need me" Shawn said walking away.

"Hey, do you think I could get a shot at her?" X-Pac asked as their voices faded into the background leaving a confused Triple H standing there asking himself what the hell was going on.

For some reason he felt that something was off. It wasn't like Shawn to give up like that and for some reason he seemed to be holding on to some kind of anger. And what the hell was wrong with Kendra? Something was up. He sighed.

Anyways, what did he know? If Shawn said all was well, he had every right to believe him.

That's a wrap up for this chapter amigos. Praise God! So, Kendra had a bit of a problem with her ex but she seems to be fine. Poor Shawn, that's why eavesdropping isn't good. Or at least if you wanna do it, do it well for crying out loud! Anyways, Sunny is okay I guess and Bret just wants to protect his sister but he sure has a 'way' of showing it. Hunter is suspicious but bless his heart, I don't think he's gonna do anything. So I guess the real star of this chapter is... X-PAC! Woo!

Thanks for reading guys. Please don't forget to follow, review and favorite! I still remain MissMartinez and I'll be sure to see you all in Chapter 14. Adios!
