Chapter 15 - Trouble In Paradise
Curt didn't keep his eyes off Kendra as he glared intently at her while she was on the phone with Sunny. He still wasn't very thrilled with the whole being "forced" to bowl with Sunny and Chris. In his words, 'the night could only end badly'.
So it's safe to say he wasn't pissed off right? Right.
"...yeah we're both so excited even though I totally suck at bowling... oh Curt, yeah, Curt is..." She turned over to him for a moment expecting his facial expression to change. It didn't. "Of course I'm still on the line, yeah Curt, he's really ecstatic and..." The call ended abruptly as Curt took the phone out of her grasp and pressed the button to end the call. "Curt!"
"Eyes on the road" He said coldly not even trying to acknowledge what he'd done. She rolled her eyes and groaned. He was such a drama king at times. "Hey, I'm just giving you perfect safety tips."
"Well it's good to see you still maintained your over pumped ego even when you're mad at me." Kendra said sarcastically with a frown on her face. Curt sighed. As pissed off as he was he hated seeing her upset especially over him.
"I'm not mad at you Kends, you know I can never be mad at you."
"Yeah but you've been so pissy throughout tonight, if you didn't wanna come you could have just said no" She said rolling her eyes. All he'd done was glare at her and complain when it was his choice to come with her. That was a little unfair wasn't it?
"No? Me? Of course I would've said no ten times over but it's you... and your stupid puppy dog eyes." He said smirking as she gasped in shock of him insulting her lovely puppy dog eyes.
"You... I... whatever. We're here anyways, I'll reserve my comment for later" Kendra said as she drove into the parking lot and found a space to park her car. "Now promise me you'll be on your best behavior. If we can get through tonight okay enough, I'll make it up to you whatever you want" Curt raised an eyebrow suggestively as Kendra suddenly realized the depth of what she'd just said. She blushed. "Uhh... I meant... almost whatever you want. Yeah"
"Whatever you say sweetheart. I'll still hold you up on that" Curt said with a small smirk as they got out of the car and headed to the trunk to get their bowling bags.
"You're so immature" Kendra said slinging her bag over her shoulder as she waited for Curt to get his.
"Maybe..." He said getting out his bag and closing the trunk. "But a promise is a promise. See you inside sweetheart" He said giving her a light slap on her butt. She gasped a little bit ultimately glaring at him as he let out a continuous laugh.
"Jerk!" She said with a pout.
"There you guys are!" Sunny squealed once they pair had gotten inside the building. "We've been waiting for ages for you guys"
"About twenty minutes" Chris added.
"Like I was saying... Ages!" Sunny stressed. Kendra smiled a bit while Curt's lips were still pressed in a thin line. "Hey Curt"
"Hi" He said blandly making Kendra nudge his arm slightly. "Ow! I mean, woo Sunny so good to see you" He couldn't sound more sarcastic but luckily Sunny didn't seem to care as she giggled.
"Thank you for that Mr. Perfect." She said narrowing her eyes playfully at him. "Anywho, I say we all go get changed so that I can start whooping you guy's asses!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. If anyone is whooping asses its gonna be me. You know, Mr. Perfect and all" Curt said to Sunny who scoffed.
"I doubt it, I'm a bowling goddess. Isn't that right Chris?" Sunny asked with a smirk. An amused Chris nodded. "Told ya"
"Well, I am Mr. P..."
"Okay, whatever. You can keep calling yourselves any name you want but you can't back it up until we start bowling so let's change dammit. The last thing we need is to hear Curt talking about himself. We'll be here all night and he won't even completely scratch the surface" Kendra said making Sunny and Chris chuckle. Curt had his usual proud look on his face.
"You hear that guys, I'm just too good, no... I'm perf... hey wait up!" Curt said noticing everyone walking away from him. You know it's pretty weird that people claim he's 'annoying' when he talks about himself but they've never walked away... well until now.
"So, what's it gonna be? Separate? Teams? Guys against girls? Or Blondes against... nevermind" Chris said noticing they were all blonde except for Kendra who was a brunette. "Just had a blonde moment there"
"It's not your fault. I've witnessed much worse. Almost everyone I know is blonde." Kendra said with a small smile. "And I actually vote we do guys vs. girls"
"Yeah I can agree with that" Curt seconded.
"Yeah, I think guys vs girls is a great idea!" Sunny squealed clapping her hands in excitement. Curt rolled his eyes.
"That is such a terrible idea. I don't agree" He said as everyone turned over to him looking at him like he'd grown four more heads. "What? You've never seen a good looking guy before"
"Excuse my annoying best friend, Sunny. He's kind of a jerk today." She said turning over to Curt and shooting him a glare "Guys vs. Girls it is" Kendra said sending a glare over to Curt who shrugged. "So who's teaming up? Chris will you..."
"It'll be my pleasure" Chris said with a smile.
"But what about...?" Curt started but was cut off by Kendra.
"You get too competitive. Both you and Sunny so you guys are gonna team up before a fight breaks out." Kendra said.
"C'mon Mr. Perfect..." Sunny teased only for Curt to groan in reply. "Oh come on, I'm trying to be all motivational here. You love that name don't you? Let's kick their asses"
"I guess. Oh... alright. We're teaming up. But by the record, I'm the one kicking ass" Curt said as he and Sunny walked over to the bowling alley. Of course they were gonna start the match.
"You know this is gonna be a train-wreck right?" Chris asked Kendra as they picked out their bowling balls. "They are so gonna struggle for co-dominance I mean, have you met them?" Chris said making Kendra giggle. "If a fight breaks out just know it's gonna be your fault'
"Maybe but Curt's being an asshole tonight... moreso than usual" She said as they both let out a chuckle.
"Hey I heard that!" Curt yelled over to them. She flipped him the bird in response. "Well how rude" He said as he got ready to start the first round.
It turned out Chris was right about the struggle for co-dominance. And boy was it annoying.
From the very start it was all arguing and trash talking about who played better and who was causing their team to lose even though they had won. Curt had a perfect game as usual while Sunny just missed it narrowly by two strikes but still played a great game. Chris had a good game too but they couldn't come any close to beating the so cleverly dubbed "Perfect team" due to Kendra's bad bowling skills. But you wouldn't have guessed they were the losers judging by how Curt and Sunny were acting.
"You made me miss those strikes and I'm... I'm pretty sure you cheated!" Sunny accused. Curt rolled his eyes.
"Whatever. Just admit it you suck that's why you couldn't come close to my score by a longshot" Curt said in his usual arrogant tone.
"I don't suck, you suck"
"I had a perfect game Sunny, you're the loser here and we all know you suck" Curt said with a small smirk.
"Why you d..."
"Hello you guys won! Stop fucking fighting and celebrate. Gee I was the one who sucked tonight and you don't see Chris and I arguing." Kendra said getting fed up with their fighting. Who really had the bigger ego? She would never know.
"Well you did really stink..." Chris said making her turn over to him with playful glare. "...I mean, yeah. What she said earlier"
"You must be proud" Curt said sarcastically, his face devoid of emotion. "Well if it's gonna be like that, at least there's one thing Sunny and I can agree on, the losers go buy us some drinks, pronto"
"Now that is an excellent idea. No, a perfect idea" Sunny said smiling sweetly. Curt looked pleased and had a smug look on his face. Kendra rolled her eyes. She never thought his already over sized ego could inflate any more but hey, stranger things had happened.
"God, the only thing worse than Curt and Sunny arguing is Curt and Sunny getting along" Kendra said as she shivered a little bit at the thought making Chris chuckle slightly as they waited patiently in line for drinks. "Imagine it for a second"
"Well, Curt seems to arrogant for his own good..."
"You have no idea. I know some people just have competitive streaks but this is borderline insanity. Both him and your...uh... girlfriend" A subtle reminder of Sunny's recent 'actions' with Shawn flooded into her mind as she suddenly began to feel uncomfortable around Chris, fidgeting slightly. And he seemed to notice.
"You alright girl? it looks like the color drained outta your face. Is there something I'm missing?" He asked concern written all over his face. She shook her head no and plastered on a fake smile.
"Sorry Chris, just feeling a bit lightheaded. Busy day" She made up an excuse hoping Chris wouldn't see right through her. If he did though, she would never know because he visibly calmed down.
"Sure you don't wanna go sit down or something, I could..."
"Are you kidding? So I can get my ear talked off by those egomaniacs?" Kendra asked making Chris laugh. "I'm quite comfortable where I am thank you very much" She said folding her arms around her chest.
"If you say so" Chris said letting out a laugh. So..."
"Sp..." Kendra replied back. She figured they both ran out of conversation topics so she asked the first thing that popped into her head. "...how did you and Sunny meet?" She mentally kicked herself in the head for that question when she saw Chris's eyes light up.
"Oh we met in high school and we've been going steady ever since. She really is too good for me but we're stuck together and I won't have it any other way." He said glancing back at the table with an enchanted look on his face. Surprisingly enough, Curt and Sunny were not talking or arguing but instead texting on their phones. Kendra guessed they had nothing else to talk about after after the bowling fiasco.
"Well that's great, um... yeah. You guys have remained solid throughout the years huh"
"Yeah, it's been really tough you know with being on the road and all and you wouldn't believe the stupid things they say about her but we've managed to get all through it" Kendra raised an eyebrow.
"Stupid things? What did they say? And who is they?" She asked in a confused manner. She had never heard of anyone saying anything bad about Sunny backstage. And of course the thing with Shawn was kept under wraps so what else stupid thing could Chris possibly mean?
"Oh it was Scott Hall who told me last year that he saw Sunny and Davey Boy Smith in a compromising position and..." Chris started only to be cut off by Kendra.
"Wait Davey? Like my brother in law Davey. The one who married my sister. Emphasis on 'married'. What the hell?" Kendra tried to wrap her head around what she'd just heard. There was no way Davey was cheating on her sister. Right?
"Hey, I wouldn't let it bother me and neither should you. It's a load of bull. He's always been high on something and he's never really liked him anyways." Chris assured as the line began to move but there were like eight or nine more people left to attend to. Kendra remained silent for a while not really sure of what to make of what she'd just heard. "Hey, it's alright"
She took a deep breath. "Yeah, it's alright. I'm great. Just great"
"Good to know. But that's not even the worst one I heard, it's actually kinda funny..." Chris started with a chuckle as Kendra looked up at him waiting for what he would say though she had a feeling it wasn't gonna be something pleasant. "...so I think like two months ago, a bunch of us went out drinking and well, I stayed a bit sober cause I had a photo shoot the next day. So you know we kept on doing our own things then at one point two brunettes came up to us and well... uh..."
"Flirted with you?"
"Yeah. I wonder why I couldn't say that" Kendra let out a little giggle at his quirkiness. "But anyways, they came unto me and I made it clear that I wasn't interested I mean I had a girlfriend and then I heard one of the dumbest things ever. X-Pac just came outta nowhere ad I say outta nowhere cause I don't really remember him even being at the bar in the first place but whatever."
"Are you sure you weren't a little tipsy yourself?" Kendra asked. Chris shook his head no but then he thought about it for a second then nodded.
"Yes I was. But I was still very conscious. Anyways, I kept pushing the girls away nicely when X-Pac just told me to quote on quote 'just let yourself have fun, after all Sunny was banging Shawn Michaels' and well... then he just crashed down on the floor. I remember laughing my ass off that night. What a clown right?" Chris said still laughing slightly. "Funny right?"
"Hehe, priceless" She fake laughed trying not to explode on the inside. "Um, do you mind I gotta use the ladies room and uh... I'll be right back"
"Okay but the line seems to be moving faster now" Chris observed that there were now about four people in front of them. "So if you don't see me here just come straight to the table okay?" She nodded and practically ran to the ladies bathroom and thankfully she was the only one there. How convenient. She went to the sink, looking at the mirror trying to gather her thoughts. Cue the dramatic sequence.
Her heartbeat accelerated. The guilt flooded on her like a river. Confusion, sadness, pity, disappointment disgust and anger. She didn't know what to feel. Chris was such a nice and trusting man and he deserved to know the truth and she was such a bad person. But how could she bring herself to tell him. Should she even tell him in the first place? She never wanted to get involved but...
If she did, she'd be responsible for a broken relationship and there is the possibility that Chris would not believe her.
But if she didn't, the guilt would never leave her and it wouldn't be fair to Chris.
And there's the issue of her sister. Anger boiled inside her and it wasn't just directed at Sunny but at Davey. How could he even...? Diana didn't deserve this. No one did. But everything was just so complicated and if she says anything she'd be responsible for the destruction of not just one but two relationships. How could two different things seem so right and so wrong at the same time?
She sighed as she rinsed her face with warm water. She knew what to do. It could come back and bite her in the ass but it's what is right at the moment. May God have mercy on her.
"...oh you're back, I thought you fell in or something. It has actually happened to someone I knew back in middle. It was hilarious you should have..."
"Sunny's cheating on you!" Kendra blurted out with her eyes closed. How classy. She slowly opened her eyes scared to see Chris's reaction and it was indeed the scariest of them all; he was smiling! Almost as if he was trying to come to grasp with what she'd just said.
"W...what?" He said his smile wavering. "Are you sure you're feeling alright?"
"I'm so sorry Chris. I'm so sorry. I've known for almost a month now." She said words just escaping her mouth. She looked at Chris's face and he seemed calm. Oddly calm.
It was obvious that something had broken inside him.
"Is she cheating on me with Shawn?" Chris asked still eerily calm. All Kendra could do was nod her head. Before Chris could get any other word in, he suddenly realized that he was at the front of the line. "I'll get back to you" He said before turning over to the bartender.
Kendra's heart felt like it was gonna beat out of her chest. Did she do the right thing? And why was Chris so calm? Why did she also feel that all hell was gonna get loose?
"I've suspected it for a while" Chris said snapping Kendra out of her thoughts.
"Huh?" She asked in confusion.
"Yeah I have. But I just decided to dismiss it because I trust her so fucking much. But yeah. She was the perfect actress but her text messages with him were always deleted. But well, I just thought I could keep on lying to myself that everything was okay. And no one ever told me unless you count X-Pac which I don't" He said with a small chuckle. Kendra could see that even while he was trying to make himself laugh, it was obvious he was hurting.
"Once again I'm really sorry" Kendra said genuinely. Chris nodded.
"It's not your fault. I understand the guts it took you to spit it out. And this is like our first real lengthy conversation so yeah, no hard feelings" He said as he collected the drinks from the bartender handing some over to her.
"So what are you gonna do?" She asked nervously. God if Sunny found out she was the perpetrator... Not that she didn't deserve it anyway.
"Well for one I wanna hear it straight outta the horse's mouth. And I got the strongest thing on the menu for her so she's gonna crack for sure. Don't worry you'll be off the hook just play it cool" Chris said.
"Alright cool. Cool. Cooool. Cool. Yeah, I don't think I can..."
"You can. Just for a short while. It won't take much for her to crack. I've known her since high school. Bottoms up" Chris said as they made their way to the table. It still surprised Kendra how calm Chris was about something like this. If she were in his shoes she was sure she'd freak out and probably burn down Georgia. Probably Minnesota as well. And South Carolina too.
"Finally!" Curt exclaimed as they put the drinks on the table. "You were gone for what two, three hours?"
"How about twenty five minutes. Hi babe" Sunny said placing a soft kiss on Chris's lips. "Drinks ahoy, I can't wait." She said immediately sipping on hers. "Why'd you order water Kends?"
"I don't drink"
"She doesn't drink" Kendra and Curt said respectively, at the same time. Sunny shrugged and continued sipping on her drink.
"You're missing out. That's is all I'm gonna say. Right babe?" Sunny asked nudging Chris in the arm.
"Absolutely" He said in a tone which sounded like he was suppressing all the anger in the world but still trying to seem calm. Kendra shot him a concerned look but he only replied with a smirk and mouthed 'Everything is gonna be fine'
While their little exchange went unnoticed by Sunny, it was noticed by Curt who looked back and forth between them, confusion clear on his face. He looked over at Kendra with a raised eyebrow as if to say 'What in the hell is going on that I don't know about?'
Kendra glanced back at Chris who nodded as if to say 'Sure, you can tell him. He'll figure it out in a short while anyways.' Kendra sighed partly wondering when she learnt how to communicate with stares and facial expression. Then again, stranger things had happened.
With that she tapped Curt and motioned for him to meet her a short distance away not too far from where the bar was at. He complied eager to get an explanation.
"Alright spill. Why are you and Skip making gooey eyes at each other. Am I missing something?" He asked crossing his arms over his chest.
"Yeah I know and I'll ex... wait hold up a sec, gooey eyes?" She asked letting out a laugh. He did not just say that.
"Yeah I said that." Kendra burst out into laughter. "Kendra!"
"Don't Kendra me Curt. And quite frankly I don't even understand what you're trying to imply" She said.
"I won't even be implying anything if I knew what in the hell was going on."
"Fair point I guess. But I was gonna tell you anyways. If you'd just be patient instead of... well whatever." She said not seeing it necessary anymore to talk about Curt implying 'things' "So anyways, um... how do I start this..."
"You lying snake!" They heard Chris scream from the table accompanied by the sound of broken glasses. Shit got real pretty fast.
"What in the..." Curt couldn't even finish his statement when Kendra ran over there trying to keep Chris from committing murder. He was right behind her as well.
"I'm sorry Chris, I didn't mean to. I was... it wasn't my fault please!" Sunny screamed with tears dripping down her face.
"Wasn't your fault Sunny? IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT?!" And with that a few more glasses were broken and people around were running away for their dear lives. "How can you sleep with that bastard for weeks and say it wasn't your fault? And Davey too!"
"What the hell?" Curt muttered under his breath.
"Yeah, you'll probably get an answer to that rhetorical question later but now, please get him outta here before he kills her. I'll take care of Sunny" Curt nodded. "I think he had a bit to drink as well"
"On it." Curt said dragging Chris away while the younger man kept on cursing Sunny out. "Yeah, yeah. I know she's a bitch. But people are watching to zip it" He said and within seconds they were out of sight. Kendra let out a deep breath as she turned to face Sunny who was a crying, mascara stained mess.
She groaned. So much for this being a fun bowling night. Though it still kept on ringing in her head that most of this was her fault.
"It's alright Sunny. It's alright" Kendra said comforting her friend sitting on the other side of the table.
"Oh Kendra!" Sunny said bursting into another round of tears. She still seemed slightly buzzed but at the same time sober enough to know what was going on. "i don't know what came over me. When you and Curt left, I was texting Shawn and somehow the whole conversation turned over to me cheating on him and I fessed up. I don't know why or how but I..." She cried once more not having the emotional strength to finish her statement.
Kendra kept comforting Sunny until she saw the manager coming over to them. Oh shoot. She eyed the broken bottles and bit her lip a little bit. Damn it. Well she caused this mess, the least she could do was pay for it.
"I'll pay for all the damages. My friend's uh... boyfriend got a little... crazy. I'm so sorry" Kendra said rubbing her neck.
"No worries but you'll need to come fill up some paper work. It shouldn't take up to five minutes" Kendra nodded as she followed the manager to fill up the paperwork. What a night this was.
Once she was done with the paperwork and paid a somewhat hefty price for the broken glass and scattered furniture, the only thing on her mind was going back to the hotel and getting a good nights sleep after dropping Sunny off.
But fate had a different plan for her.
"What the fuck is she doing her?" A familiar Texan accent filled her ears as she looked up to see who it belonged to. Shawn freaking Michaels. The mad who hadn't spoken to her for almost a week.
You know Curt said the night could only end badly, but this had gone from bad to worse.
Chapter 15 everyone! I wanna apologize if my writing was a little sloppy I'm still trying to get back into the groove. But anyways, Chris and Sunny finally broke up! Or did they? Yep, they probably did... probably. Did Kendra do the right thing by telling Chris? Is Sunny gonna find out what Kendra did? Will Kendra tell her sister about Davey and Sunny? What's up with Shawn? What's up with Curt?
Does anyone still remember much about the story after a whole month and a half? (I hope you guys do, please)
Stay tuned for Chapter 16. As usual, don't forget to follow, favorite and review! See you guys real soon. I will try my best to be active on again. Maybe a new chapter every week or two every week? We'll wait and see. But for now, I have a lot of stories to read :)
Always remember to stay safe. COVID-19 will come to an end soon.
