An intense agony hit me as I awoke. Light shone down on my face, and body. Covering my eyes as I lay on my temporary bed, I pushed myself to sit, my legs dangling over the edge of the metal parts. Heat radiated off of the metal sides. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, something shiny caught my attention. It was the sword that I used to fight the monsters, and it reflected the sun's bright light.
Staring towards the sky, I noticed how high it was. It must be noon, when the sun itself was brightest in the day. The sky itself was a constant companion on this lonesome journey. Blue skies, with various shaped clouds. The land itself may have changed, but the sky remains the same.
Several minutes passed before I stood up, and retrieved my sword. It was incredibly hot to the touch, and yet the heat barely phased me. The temperature had no effect on me. My days spent travelling revealed how little the effects from staying up for several days would not tire me as it normally would. I could resist the hot and cold climate better than what must have been normal seeing how the nights were. My body was not sweating, which meant that I would be able to do many different sorts of jobs that normal people cannot do.
Once done thinking about what strange things were going on with my body, I looked down at myself. Dust had settled on the side I lay down on. Dusting myself off took several minutes. Taking a final look around showed me that the place must have once been a place of gathering.
Evidence lay around the place. Starting from a faded map, to ripped swirling patterns that loitered the ground.
Once my exploration of the place had been completed, I heard a noise. The noise itself was loud and mechanical. Looking towards the direction of the noise revealed it to be coming from the sky. A machine of some kind was in the sky, whirring blades moving at incredible speeds. The back had two flat sides, and a long middle that went skyward. The machine had a large bulk, color a black shade, and it was moving at incredible speeds. Its destination was north, so I decided to follow it. My only thought was that there might be someone that could aid me in finding a safe haven away from any of the monstrous beasts that roam the world.
Running in the direction of the loud machine in the sky, I stumbled upon a large number of monsters. The group reminded me much of the same one I had seen heading south, but this time it was in much better detail. There were three in total. Four sturdy paws held their bodies, tails furry and striped. Manes orange in color, sabretoothed fangs protruding from their mouths, fiery shaped antlers, and five strange cape-like appendages coming out from behind their heads.
The area these creatures inhabited was a large plain. Much of the ground had darkened, as if the beasts themselves had fought against something powerful. Energy itself seemed to radiate all across the plains.
The distance between me and the people that must have been inside the flying machine was at the least, a hundred feet away. From this distance I would be able to see what the people were planning to do. It had dawned on me that if the group was willing to fight these monstrous foes, then it would be best to observe them from afar.
Suddenly, the creatures themselves reacted to something darting out of the flying contraption. Out jumped a man wearing a blue hood, brown pants, and a yellow shirt. His wrist had a strange bracelet attached, and in his right hand was a massive sword. Only seconds later after I noticed his attire, he landed to the ground causing a small shockwave. Parts of the earth erupted from the ground with a small plume of dust.
The battle had started and my curiosity made me want to see more. Getting closer, I could see just how fast the man moved. His speed surprised me, as he weaved to and fro. Large purple balls zipped past him, hitting the ground itself. After several more blasts, the man slashed at one of the creature's legs.
Suddenly the man held his blade in both hands, and released an immense energy that sliced into one of the creatures, causing it to fall to the ground. Rolling to the side, he slashed at another's tail. This caused it to roar and lash out with its left paw. The man blocked it by holding his sword in the air as a strange round surface sprang to the sides of the hilt.
He seemed to be struggling in the fight, so I began to run towards the monsters in the hopes of aiding him. It would take me a minute to arrive so I hoped he would survive. Watching the battle as I ran forward, he seemed to notice my presence as he began to slash ferociously with his weapon against the beast that had been injured. Moments later the second beast fell to the ground, as he turned to the third. The one he had slain first had begun to melt into the ground, before the man suddenly pressed something on the hilt of his blade. A monstrous mouth sprang forth, biting through the large prone creature, before going back after several seconds had passed.
I was almost there, my left foot making it difficult to run as quickly as I had wanted to. Suddenly, the third beast noticed my presence, before shooting an energetic ball towards me. As the ball hit me, intense agony coursed through my body. The distance between me and the fight had lessened to only twenty feet. I was motionless, rooted in place, struggling to move my body as every nerve in my body protested.
Moments later the massive beast begins rushing towards me with the man on its heels. The agony slowly begins to fade but not enough for me to roll to the side. It took three seconds before the massive creature was in front of me, its paw held out to strike. There would be no one to save me once it made contact, yet instead time itself seemed to have slowed. An intense itch came from my scalp. My arm transformed into a claw, and struck forward toward the beasts strike.
The moment our attacks collided, the monster was jolted back as I ended up sailing through the air several yards behind me. My body rolled along the ground, taking several intense scrapes and bruises. My entire left arm was numb, and bent at an odd angle. The clawed form was gone, as I stared at the spinning world. It took ten seconds before the world stopped spinning, and intense agony washed over me once again. It had become clear to me that I was no match against the larger ones.
The sounds of battle continued as I lay on the ground, whimpering. My sword was no longer in my right hand, and my limbs were heavy. I had no idea how long I spent lying on the ground as the world kept fading into complete darkness over several minutes.
Loud footsteps were getting closer to me. Then I could feel someone's arms snake around my waist turning me towards them. It was the man I saw fighting, his face full of concern. From far away I had not noticed his olive skin. He opened his mouth, words filtering out as my ears continued to ring. Eventually I was able to make out what he was saying after he injected my arm with a strange device.
"Can you stand on your own? Nod if you can't respond."
I tried to nod my head, but found it was still incredibly difficult to move. The man's look of concern changed to one of annoyance as he stared at my broken arm. A sharp snap echoed to my left, as pain laced through my left arm. It was difficult not to yell out from the intense pain.
The stranger placed a hand to his right ear, his sword nowhere in sight.
"Reporting an injured civilian. Took a hit from a Vajra, and she's heavily injured. Awaiting orders.."
So that thing was called a Vajra. Good to know for later. Maybe I could ask him what else he knows once my body stops hurting.
"She's stable, she likely has internal damage."
The sound of whirring blades was approaching, as the man began to carry me in his arms. Dust flew past us as it landed.
"Another newbie. You better not get in the way like the last one." He sounded really annoyed. His comparison of me and someone else had me interested. My body was far too exhausted to protest as he carried me to the machine that had landed. The irksome feeling of knowing what i was called constantly nagged the back of my mind.
The feeling of intense heat erupted from my chest, as my body began to warm. This did not go unnoticed by the man carrying me. He looked down at me, his eyes stern. I was dropped once my body grew too hot for his arms to bear. Bewilderment etched on his face as I laughed. Sweet numbing bliss had begun to wash over my body. I felt giddy, and then the feeling went away. The injuries on my body were gone. The young man was bewildered as he stared at his arms, a few burns on them.
He placed his hand to his ear, an angry expression overtaking his previously shocked demeanor. "You need to get the old man."
Old man? I do wonder who it might be, but it did seem to be a good idea to go with the guy that saved me. Haven't seen any other living person for a while, so this might be my best bet to know what was going on.
"You look like you can walk now, so you better get inside the chopper. Hurry it up, Newbie." His voice startled me. Looking around I spotted my sword was several feet away from me. After retrieving it, I followed the strange guy. He seemed to change his attitude quite often. Probably a tough guy act, but I'm not going to try to figure out what was wrong with him.
As we got inside, I noticed several chairs that were connected to the wall of the machine. He beckoned me to sit down. Once seated, I was given a small device. Suddenly I felt fingers brush my ears as he placed the device into my ear.
"Don't do anything stupid. I'm not going to be babysitting you." His voice seemed to echo through the strange device he placed into my ear. I was able to hear him through the whirling blades.
"So, where are we going?" He turned to me after my question before placing a single finger to his lips. He must have meant for me to remain silent if my faulty memory has anything to say about it. I really want to know what he was doing out here, but I doubt that would be a good idea. He seems to be the kind of person I don't wanna get on their bad side. It's gonna be a long ride to whatever destination this thing is heading. Suddenly he closed the doors before sitting opposite of me. His eyes were studying me, and I decided to remain quiet for the rest of the trip.
Several hours passed as we sat in silence. The sky outside had gotten dark, and the lights inside of where we sat had. My view of the world outside was limited by a glass window in the middle of the door. Staring at me was the man that saved me. While I did want to know his name, something told me it would be best to wait until we arrived at the destination he had in mind.
He seemed to constantly hold his weapon next to him, almost as if he was prepared to strike at me. It was clear that if his goal was to kill me, then I would be dead already. The hours of silence did nothing to erase the tense atmosphere.
The more I began to think about what his name might be, the more I realized that I had forgotten my own. The only memories left with me is a knowledge of flowers, knowing that I should run away from any of the monsters like the Vajra, and an urge to find someone. That was all that would explain why I had been heading north.
It was what I was going to do at first, but looking at it objectively had revealed to me a simple fact. Whatever I was searching for was most likely killed by the monsters in this place, and the only place left for me to go was with the kind young man sitting opposite of me. His attitude made no sense to me, but he was still a nice enough person to help me. Well, besides dropping me.
A tap on my shoulder started me out of my thoughts. He was standing right in front of me, beckoning me to follow. Seeing as there was no reason to object, I followed. Right outside were a few people holding guns. There were strange orange objects connected to their weapons. In the middle of the group was a white haired man, with glasses slowly drooping down his nose.
"So, you're the one I heard about. Come with me young lady." He seemed nice, but he didn't tell me his name. Regardless, I followed. Looking down, I noticed how high up we were from the ground, with the entire place surrounded by a massive wall.
Eventually once inside the building, I was escorted to a strange room. The halls themselves were vacant, and the only people passing by appeared to be uniformed guards. I felt rather underclothed compared to everyone else we passed. Looking behind me revealed the man that had been with me was already gone.
Suddenly my head hit something solid. Looking up I realized it was the man with glasses that had turned around. He must have noticed my shocked face as he smiled. "Looks like you must be incredibly tired my dear. Don't fret, I have a room that you can rest in as long as you allow me to perform some tests in the morning." I nodded. A bed seemed like a much better option than sleeping on the hard unforgiving ground.
Turning behind me, I noticed that the guards escorting us had left. We had arrived at a room that appeared closed. "You will be sleeping in the room on the right. This is my lab, and I do hope you will sleep well. I will procure some clothes for you to wear." Following the man inside
After his speech I looked around. It really was an office, and there appeared to be some lab equipment in the room.
Turning towards the room he told me would be mine, I walked inside. The room was barren besides a mattress with a blanket and pillow. Looking at myself, I realized how filthy my body was. Hopefully there would be a bath I could use.
Laying on the bed, I stared at the ceiling. Today has been an interesting day. Here's hoping to get some answers to what is going on with me and with this world. I know my body should not be doing what it was doing, so maybe what I assume to be a doctor can explain to me what is going on. Before drifting off to sleep, a single thought entered my mind. 'Nobody told me their names.' That was strangeā¦..
Author's Notes: I am gonna be following the canon of the anime. I hope this chapter is not too rushed. Oh, and I have decided to start the next chapter writing progress right now.
