Waking up from blissful sleep was nice. It took me about a few minutes before my mind actually managed to process things again. How long had I been out for? That was something I did not know. I needed to at least figure out where I was because it seemed my mind did not register everything as well as it should have.
I'm at a place called Fenrir, which has people specifically trained to fight whatever the monsters were. I don't exactly remember if that guy told me what they were. I was kind of out of it, and I did get knocked down. I might have a concussion but I feel fine at the moment. I am also covered in a lot of dirt, maybe some other stuff I have no real idea about. I am also still comfortably resting on a bed that may in fact need to be washed.
At least the guy in glasses was nice and let me stay even though I got no real clue why they let me in. The weapons were familiar to me, but everything else is kind of fuzzy, so that might mean I got hurt really badly. Without a point of origin I could not piece anything beyond maybe some bits and pieces.
Pushing myself off the bed, I look around the room and spot my sword leaning against the wall. It was at least a clue even if I forgot those strange red tear drops. The only clue left for me was that sword but no memories seemed to surface from it even as I approached to pick it up. As I reached my hand towards it, the weapon seemed to radiate some kind of heat. As I grabbed it, the sword turned out to feel like a living thing, the hardened metal did not seem to be anything like that man's weapon did, but it did give off a similar sensation. How would holding it feel compared to what is already mine? Questions for later as a knock rang through the door behind me.
The knock startled me as I was observing the sword and I dropped it, resounding in a long clang and me shouting in surprise. I need to pay better attention instead of getting lost in my own thoughts. Turning around I told the person on the other end they could enter. It turned out to be the man in glasses, whose name I forgot. He was holding a metal tray with what appeared to be a cup filled with water and a bowl that had something steaming from it. I did not feel hungry but that might be an issue with my head since starvation does seem to lead to some sort of loss in appetite. At least it made the most sense.
The man in glasses informed me about the food being good for people that were incredibly hungry or starving. The more I tried to make myself feel hungry the more annoyed I felt, so instead I told him that I was not hungry. He was surprised but then decided to take the food back somewhere. He returned to inform me he would eat before coming back. It seems likely that he had brought two bowls as I could smell another bowl of food. It took a good ten minutes for him to return, which gave me enough time to put the weapon back against the wall. It was strange to realize how long ten minutes could be when you paid attention to it.
When he returned, he was holding a flat device that emitted light, and yet again something that seemed familiar kept eluding me. This was getting really annoying but for the moment I just needed to gather whatever information the people here could give me. It sounded like a good plan, but how would I go about earning their trust? I clearly lacked the ability to lie well, and it would be obvious to the man in glasses. For the moment being honest was the best thing to do, even if this place made me feel uneasy. The walls on the way here left me feeling extremely uneasy even though I did not understand why.
Regardless of my unease, I needed to focus. Once the man returned, he looked at me, before speaking up. "My name is Paylor Sasaki, and I am a doctor working here. I believe you were far too tired to remember much of the day before. I have several questions that I need you to answer for medical reasons. Do you understand?" I nodded.
Did he ever tell me his name? Guess he was right in telling me his name, since everything seemed to happen either way too fast or way too slow for my liking.
Dr. Paylor looked at me before clearing his throat and began asking me questions. "The first question, can you tell me your name?" My name, that was something I could not remember, but then an image flashed into my head. A flower with white petals, and a yellow center. Yuri?
"Your name is Yuri?" I must have looked startled as Dr. Paylor gave me a gentle smile. I nodded, since this was the only thing that came to mind. He tapped away on his strange device and I answered many other questions as well, such as where I had come from, what I remembered, and the places I had gone to. He looked perplexed by some of my answers and tried to get me to clarify the strange tear shaped objects, and the sword.
After his questions, he pulled out a strange looking patch, and spoke. "I am going to place this on your arm. It is to test out your Oracle Cell levels. This is unlikely to hurt but I must ask if you are willing to let me apply this to your arm. Do I have your permission?"
He seemed quite genuine, and it was not like I had a reason to refuse. I think that young man did this before but I cannot be too sure. Regardless, I nodded and let him try. After about ten seconds the weird patch just burned up. The Doctor noted this before looking at me.
"Thank you for your patience. It is clear that you have had quite a strange week, and hopefully we can find answers for what is going on, but for the moment I think you may have some questions for me. While that is something I am willing to answer to the best of my ability, I do believe you may be wanting to get something clean to wear." He was right, and I did feel filthy. Probably smelled too but Dr. Paylor did not seem to show any kind of judgment
I decided to ask him a few questions about the monsters and he told me they were Aragami. A strangely familiar name. The first ones are considered Ogretails and are apparently the weakest. He was willing to tell me more but I felt like being clean took greater priority.
"Yeah, being clean would be nice right now." He nodded at me before beckoning me to follow him while he called someone on a weird device in his ear. I asked him about the young man and he told me his name was Soma. I told him if he would let me talk to him and thank him for bringing me to this place. To kill time I asked him what the place was called as we walked through the halls. He was incredibly nice even though I still felt a lot of uneasiness being in this place. Fenrir is a place that fought these number of halls we walked through was immense, and even stranger was the fact that we did not encounter a single person as we walked. By the time we made it to what I assumed was the bathroom, Dr. Paylor turned around and told me to head on through. I did remember something about privacy so perhaps that was what he was giving me. He did call someone once more, and I think it was a woman's voice if I concentrated hard enough.
Upon entering the room, I could see walls that looked like small rooms with doors on them. There seemed to be a towel left next to one of these, and what appeared to be some weird smelling containers. The smells were actually quite nice, but were really unfamiliar to me. After a tough few minutes of trying to figure out the strange turning wheels, I managed to turn the water on, and cleaned myself. After drying myself and wrapping the towel I placed my dirty clothes in the corner, and was about to exit before a woman entered the door and stared at me.
She was a tall woman, wearing a teal colored collar, with a light pink blazer, with a dark purple corset. She looked intimidating as she glared at me. Then she opened her mouth to speak.
"So you're Yuri? My name is Tsubaki Amamiya. For the moment I will measure you so please be patient. Dr. Paylor told me to come here." I had not realized I was holding my arm tightly until after she told me Dr. Paylor sent her. Being in this place kept making me nervous and weary, but I should at least calm down.
After a few seconds, Tsubaki took out a strange roll with numbers on them, and began to state numbers on my body before finishing in what felt like a minute. I felt incredibly confused before she decided to call someone. She looked at me and just put a finger to her mouth telling me to remain silent. It took about I believe five minutes unless my counting was wrong for someone to arrive at the door. I only caught the smell of metal and some oily substance before whomever was there left after Tsubaki took the clothes.
"You're going to be wearing these. Tell me when you are done so I can call Dr. Paylor to retrieve you. I will be disposing of your old clothes. They're already beyond repair and of any practical use." I nodded before I began to change into a blue uniform. The outfit came with black and gloves and there was a symbol on the uniform, shaped like a strange animal. The symbol was familiar but it did nothing more than give me a headache trying to figure out why.
"I'm done. Is there something el-?" I was cut off before finishing as she put her hand up motioning for a second before calling Dr. Paylor. It felt a bit rude, but I did not want to disobey her for some reason. It felt stupid, but something told me it was a really bad idea to make her angry. It took a bit before a knock on the door sounded. Tsubaki and I went outside, and Dr. Paylor was there waiting for us.
He nodded at Tsubaki before thanking her and told me to follow. We went back to his office where the room I slept in was. Once inside he motioned me to sit down on one of the seats. I think it was called a sofa. He took out the two identical devices like the one he kept tapping away at and explained to me how they worked. He asked me if I was still not hungry and after telling me I wasn't, he looked somewhat worried. It did feel awkward how he kept insisting I should eat, so I decided to ask for the food. It had gone cold but that was fine. After eating it, I felt a bit different. The only thing that was different was that I at least knew food still tasted normal.
Dr. Paylor looked as if he was making a tough decision before sighing. After pushing up his glasses, he looked at me prepared to ask a question. "This may seem a bit too forward to ask, but would you be willing to work under me as a personal assistant? It would allow you to learn more about yourself, as your condition matches that of people suffering from amnesia, most likely induced by whatever must have happened within the warehouse you spoke of."
I had nothing to lose so I agreed, not finding any other option. At least I would have a safe place to live, and I really was curious what kind of assistance he would ask of me. He explained the different things I would do after I was trained, which sounded incredibly painful. My first task would be to learn about all the different types of Aragami, and how to defeat them. After that I would be taught how to fight each different type in what he called a simulation. I will admit that it sounded fun, which felt really weird. It was like something changed about me but this amnesia was not going to let up.
After giving me the tablet and sending me off to my room I began to go through the different Aragami. Some of them looked really pretty to me, like the one named Sariel. I do not know why but I really liked the color and shape of it. The others were said to be similar to animals but Sariel was the one I liked the most. After rereading each file, I put the tablet down. The words felt strange but regardless, it was fun to learn about these things.
I decided to examine my sword again after standing up, and felt like asking Dr. Paylor if he could also feel the sword giving off some strange heat. He looked a bit startled to see me in front of him after the door opened, holding my sword out to him and then asking him to touch it. Why he looked like he was holding back a laugh I did not know.
After he took a breath, I was told to place the sword on the table. It made a small thunk on the table as I placed it. Dr. Paylor examined it before placing his hand slowly on the blade. He told me that it did give off heat, and seemed to almost hum when it came into contact with his hands. He took out his tablet before tapping away again on it.
"While this is incredibly interesting, I believe it is time for you to have some rest. We can resume tomorrow. Your excitement is good but you should not overwork yourself. Tomorrow I will be giving you the authorization to access the simulation but I need to get the proper clearance for it. Your file is still being worked on as of this moment." I nodded, and he smiled gently at me even though he kept that odd habit of keeping his eyes closed.
Deciding to go back to my room I picked up my sword and left, I could still feel the doctor staring at me before he went back to tapping on his tablet. I had nothing better to do, and this restless energy at the idea of actually finding my memories would not let up. So after placing my sword back, I reread the files on the Aragami before deciding to close my eyes and began to imagine fighting the Aragami like that guy Soma did.
Author's Notes: Sorry I took forever. I hope you like this chapter as I gotta relearn everything I had planned out cause I am a forgetful idiot that played too much Final Fantasy 14. Thank you starhammer for being patient with me. He's a good friend that tries to keep me on track.
