Bandit
"D-dads dead?" whimpered my sister after a long pause.
"Yes," my mother said gravely.
"L-like dead, dead? Not-" I stuttered not being able to interpret any other way dead could be.
"Im sorry," responded my mother as she tucked us closer.
Months were going by in a blur, we were getting older, and it seemed the older we got the worse the news got.
We were no longer the small sheltered kittens we once were, no the war made things much brutal, my mother blamed herself for telling us too early, it didn't matter though, we would have found out anyways.
Unbeknownst to my mother and even my sister I was quietly practicing my powers in secret, it was part of who I was, I couldn't ignore it, I NEEDED to help the war effort, my sister didn't think it involved us, I disagreed, but Mother forbade the topic.
That didn't mean I was instant war commander though, no, I merely wanted to help. They needed it after all.
"Hey brother," murmured my sister after finding me staring at the pool of water by some cabins, "Have you heard of the newest welp in town?"
Which one? Tons of refugees were moving here, "No,"
"They were Quite fierce, they looked to be about 8 years old, they were living in that old abandoned log, looked sorta like Moss, green and blue," she continued.
"Maybe we can become friends with it?" I said hopefully grinning.
"Doubtful... they attacked me the instant I came close grumbling about his territory, wondering where his parents are," she commented, shrugging, "Maybe though…"
"Race you back home!" I grinned as we bolted towards the cave, I had longer legs than her so I easily ran past her as her stubby legs struggled to keep up.
"Haha!" I laughed at her as I even finished with jumping up the tumble of rocks by our cave and perching on top.
"I'm gonna get you!" she said scrambling up the rock pile and pushing me off as we wrestled each other to the ground laughing.
"Sister…" I started taking a grave tone when I realized Mother would be back soon.
"Yes?" she asked, tilting her small head towards me.
"I need too," I said and that was all I needed to say as her eyes misted over before being replaced by anger.
"You don't NEED to do anything! For Spirits Sake we are 12 years old! What do you think you are going to do? You would die in an instant!" she exploded, lashing her thin tail back forth, "You're an idiot you know! You dont think ahead! Would they even Accept a 12 year old? What has gotten into you?! We lived perfect years of life and then you have to play the Strong Knight the Valiant Soldier, PLEASE Little Brother, This has NOTHING to do with us! Just sit back and actually ENJOY life!"
I winced back from her, I knew she was annoyed but I didn't know she felt…. All of this mess… I didn't think I was wrong though, we can't just sit back and act like it has nothing to do with us, I had powers for goodness sake, powers she liked to act didn't exist, and on that note she stalked away.
She didn't even move a muscle as I walked out casting one glance back at her, I could at least get a good scope of the territory, and I headed towards a place shrouded in mist where I could collect my thoughts… the Swamp.
