Bandit

I stared down at the slightly smaller elekity who had appeared, they were a mossy green with a blue mask across his face, "Hello?" I said softly hoping to not scare him.

Don had left already and as long as we spoke in low voices it seemed to be alright.

Said elekity started scratching the confides of his cage going full beast mode on them, no need for him to be scared, "Why did I have to leave my log?"

Log? That was odd…

I took a deep breath before trying again, it was always best to be patient, that's what my mother always said! "Hey uh fellow elekity!

No response.

I tried again, and again, and again.

No response, typical.

Finally they responded but with more hostility than I expected, their piercing blue gaze fixed on me, "We aren't here to make friends, do you want to alert that thing?"

"Well no…" I said cautiously sifting from one food to the other, this reminded me of the battles I used to have with Heather when she was pissed off at something I did, still despite his short fuse I answered sincerely, "I wanted to check on you."

There was a scoffing sound and the elekity, my only source of company now that the others seemed to scared to talk, perhaps that was a sign, but I had to know more about the elekity who somehow stumbled up here. I had so many questions.

"Thanks but no thanks." said the green electric type, just like me.

Pause.

"Unless you know a way out, I have no need for idle chit chat."

I didn't but I was going to try to suggest some ideas!

"Hey we are stuck in here together!" I said perhaps a bit too cheerfully, "We should work together, what if we knocked our cages off the platform? What's your name by the way,"

"I don't fancy being dead from the impact thank you very much, and what does my name matter to you?"

What made him so grumpy? Yes it wasn't an ideal situation, but I knew we always had to look on the brighter side.

"Do you have any family? I do, I have a sister, her name's Heather." Her name left a sour taste in my mouth… what if I never saw her again… focus Bandit, focus "We don't always get along but she's still my sister and of course my Mom's amazing did you know she raised us both alone since our Dad's joined the war." I left out that he died, seemed like it would put a somber note on this conversation, plus the erythian I was talking to wasn't even listening to me and instead was staring off into the distance.

Looking through the opening in the tree with him I saw what had caught his attention, Don, that trickster, who was apparently evil? I didn't fully understand that. My heart dropped as I recognized the second figure…. my Mother, what was she doing here? Oh no this was bad very bad... At least Heather wasn't here, he didn't think she could dodge those attacks, well then again neither could he with their stubby legs. They seemed to be discussing something but it soon turned south and Don shot a burst of fire at my Mother and their battle commenced, except my Mother wasn't an elementalist, she didn't have powers.

"Cherry!"

"Mom!?" I screamed still in shock at the exact same moment.

In shock I stared at my grumpy jailbuddy and found him already staring at me. Cherry? Did he know my Mom by a different name? He seemed familiar…

"My name's Swamp." he said hesitantly, biting his lip.

"Bandit," I replied smoothly.
