Bandit
We hadn't expected her to show up so early…My breath stopped. There before us was a looming, terrifying fox-like creature that had killed my Mother! Half of me wanted to tear her throat open no matter how morbid it was, and the other was terrified of her her, she had killed my Mom, the strongest Erythian I knew…
Heather meanwhile seemed to have no such concerns getting ready to charge. I hissed at her. She shot me a glare but stayed put, the edges of her eyes were lined red though.
"Team?" I asked the younger blue and green elekity in front of me, they gave a swift curt nod. Our opponent was terrifying though, the shadows seemed to darken and dance in her wake, she slowly walked towards us. She seemed even bigger than before as she loomed over us.
Swamp was braver and more outspoken than me and yelled at her. "Leave us alone! You are absolutely bat crap crazy!" As he said this his fur filled with electricity, creating sparks around what would soon be a battlefield.
His friend, who I still did not completely understand. She was a small doll-like Kitsune that seemed to be on our side, but I was pretty sure judging by their interactions this was a mother daughter situation. We hadn't interacted yet but she was pretty aloof. Either way she smacked him on the head, not very hard though, more like a cuff on his ear, "Swamp! You can't just say that!" she gasped, I had to admit I shared the same sentiment.
Still it was for that monstrosity, she killed my Mom, I only survived because she took the brunt force of that explosion. I felt like I should be going in there blazing with an intensity to scare her to her core, to take revenge for what she did, but I just felt numb and stuck in place.
"Try me Princess, besides it's at that psycho thing!" replied Swamp, jerking his paw in her Mom's direction. Heather was getting impatient besides me, her claws scraping deep into the dirt, she may not be able to control the elements but as much as I hated to admit it… she beat me more often than I not either way.
"Mom please." begged Cherry, "Don't hurt them-"
I couldn't help but feel for the little Kitsune, her Mother hardly even acknowledged her, "I didn't realize you were the boss of me." A fireball appeared in her hands.
"Bring it!" I growled with Heather shouting the same chant, she couldn't keep doing this, I might be afraid but we could get out of this. And once I was bigger and older I'd come back to burn her tree to the ground.
I thought I was being exceptionally brave, but maybe Swamp was just stupid, either way, "How does it feel to be the fail of a century? Mother's Day is going to be so empty." My jaw dropped. A strangled noise came out of the pinkish red Kitsune's throat.
Her voice dropped to a deep threatening one, "What did you say to me you disgusting contaminated blooded Elekity?"
Swamp showed no fear, even mocking her, by smiling and dramatically bowing. "Is- Is he okay?" whispered my sister I could only give a confused shrug back "I simply thought I would point out that well, your daughter ran away. And your other one betrayed you… it wasn't even that hard to convince her. "And I just mean that, wow, an elemental the thing your sooo good at tracking down is just casually meeting with your daughter? Laaammmee."
The temperature dropped dramatically, what was Swamp doing? Maybe I shouldn't have put so much faith in his critical thinking skills. We all waited in batted breath. Seconds felt like hours… "I mean what sort of Mother lets her daughter get manipulated by a peasant?"
Every time he spoke he just seemed to wind her up even more. I couldn't help but feel defensive as every second she seemed to be ready to explode, positioning myself in front of my sister.
She shoved me out of the way with a hiss, "I can take care of myself thank you very much."
Then Swamp appeared beside us, "Run. I can handle her."
I wasn't leaving him. He was a little prickly but he had a good heart and I had left him once, and my Mom, I wasn't leaving them again. "No way, Swamp! We'll stay here and fight. I won't leave you again." He made a gag face at that.
Cherry, I believe was her name spoke up next, "Yeah!"
He wasn't persuaded in the slightest though, "If you really want to help stay out of the way, I don't need you to mess anything up. Which frankly I have a feeling you will, so just go."
He didn't give us a chance to disagree. Immediately bolting as the adult's power charged up, we had to go. Swamp easily slid past her while she was still powering up, but now there was no hope and we ran toward the ravine, we just had to get out of the way. We weren't leaving him.
"Argh! You should have left me off her when I had the chance!" said my sister lashing her golden speckled tail lash back and forth.
