Prologue
"You fox-heart," Sun growled. "After all I did, sacrifice territory for your clan, you try and take more?" Moon let out an angry growl to his sister.
"So? My clan needs more! You have way more territory than us." The gray tom growled, his tail lashing. His claws unsheathed.
"You should be glad I gave you any territory at all, brother." Sun hissed, her gold fur swaying as it bushed out. The molly flattened her ears against her head. "You are cruel."
"Sun, I owe you nothing. Just because you did something kind for me, I did not ask for it. I shouldn't be in your debt." The trees seemed to quiver as the muscular gray tom growled.
"So you won't show basic cat kindness as I did for my brothers' clan I loved? You could go into unknown territory and claim that which is riskier, you could be doing that. Instead, you are threatening your sister for it? Mother would be disappointed in you." Sun said evenly, calming her fur and many cats. But not Moon. The big gray cat hissed, sending whatever rodents were still there down into their burrows.
" Your weak, Mother would be proud of me, you weakling. You always were weaker, your strength, your hunting, everything. You can run fast, but that only helps a cowardly cat." He taunted. But Sun wouldn't back down from the fight. Her clanmates stood behind her. Sorrelnose, Mosspaw, and Cloudrunner wanted her to win this. Her brother had only Brightnose and Shrewfox. She had the advantage if it came to a fight.
"Attack!" Moon howled. Sun flung herself at him, clawing into his shoulder. For the split second she had she looked around. Sorrelnose and Mosspaw were teaming up on Shrewfox; while Cloudrunner had Brightnose in a headlock. She felt claws grip her face and she returned back to her battle with her much bigger brother. She shook around as well as she could but he had her head trapped. Sun narrowed her eyes, and extended her claws out and raked both her claws down his belly. Moon gasped as blood began dripping down his pelt, but she didn't stop there. She flung herself at him. As he braced himself, the gold cat changed their direction upwards. Sun jumped and landed squarely on his back. She dug her claws deep and ripped at fur. Quickly, Moon rolled over, crushing me. He winced as his wound was pressed hard into her fur.
Sun gasped for air as her brother lay on her. 'It hurts. It hurts so much'. The golden mollie squirmed to get free, but she could barely get in enough breath to breathe. 'He's going to kill me!' The thought ran chills up her spine, and she knew she had to break free. She squirmed and kicked under the tom rolled up. Moon immediately got into a fighting stance. He looked down at her with fiery in his gaze. But he was weak from fighting. She still had some fight left in her. She flung herself at him, and let out a yowl of shock as the tom had moved out of the way. He staggered over while Sun was still in shock and pounced on her. He ripped fur and underneath skin. Sun was yowling. 'Brother! Stop stop! 'Her brain drummed.
Moon stopped, suddenly aware of the pain it caused his sister. But she was already gone. As Moon sniffed at her pelt and breathed in her sweet scent mixed with both his and her blood, he stiffened. Sun's scent was fading. 'I killed her. I killed Sun' Moon thought with a painful shock. The pain was consuming him though, and he collapsed next to his sister. Siblings, both dead.
As Brightnose bit Cloudrunner tail, she quickly looked around. Shrewfox was getting cornered from both sides by Sunclan cats, Sorrelnose and Mosspaw. She looked for Sun and Moon, only to let out a gasp that let Cloudrunners' tail free. Both leaders were laying on the ground, bloody. She rushed over to them, not caring if Cloudrunner carried on. She nosed Moon's side, searching for any sign he was alive. She looked to her side and saw Cloudrunner was checking over his leader. He sighed. "She's dead. Does Moon have any life left?" As she shook her head the other cats came over.
"What's wrong with them?" Mosspaw asked quietly.
"They're dead." Sorrelnose meowed glumly.
"I'll go get Ashclaw. Cloudrunner, will you get Rosethorn? I think they need to see this." Brightnose meowed softly.
