Chapter 5: The Skywing Princess

Urchin

I didn't know what I did to offend him, Basilisk had always been a little touchy though, a little different, I didn't dislike him any less for that though.

I was Urchin of the Seawing Rebellion against the Skywing's. I knew my purpose in life, to seek revenge for my parents who had been slaughtered in front of me. Still the whole situation felt wrong… it just didn't make sense.

I was still serving my time, I could have easily left if I wanted to. One glance at the weak chains or unattentive guards could tell you a thing about the Skywings, no I was in here for a reason…

… It wouldn't bring back the dead though…

Before I could continue down that treacherous train of thought a gruff looking Skywing littered in scars flew up towards my podium, their expression betrayed nothing, guess I was flying blind.

They tugged at my chains and they clattered uselessly on the platform underneath me, "Does the Queen wish to see me?" I questioned flicking my tail back and forth, certainly she did, I was a very important prisoner afterall.

The red skywing didn't respond instead choosing to poke me towards the direction he wanted me in, all with the perfect model guard face plastered all over his face, seriously could these guards become more mindless drone if they tried? Sheesh!

"Okay okay, I get it, less chatter, you could have asked politely, your lucky I'm in a good mood," I said flashing a smile at him trying to get under his skin. It didn't work.

Instead I was poked around the palace's winding corridors, gold glimmered off of the walls as we approached the chambers of the Queen, the castle was nothing special, a boring lump of rock with hideous golden decor decked out everywhere, honestly would it hurt to add some blue or green?

I was presented before not the Queen but her daughter, Princess Sunrise. Her body was decked out with various cuts and scratches, she was scarred but not that deeply except for her hind leg that had almost like black veins running down it, still with only 3 legs she was a formidable opponent.

Everyone had heard of Princess Sunrise's misfortune accident. Somehow a prisoner had escaped brutally injuring her, it was as early as last year too, seemed to have been what turned her from the usual spoiled brat to a hardened warrior.

Princess Sunrise's gaze sharpened on me from the lavish bed she was stretched out on, we didn't have a spectacular history either, she clicked her tongue in distaste, "Your smaller than I expected,"

"Yeah well you're not all that spectacular yourself your highness," I snapped back instantly, before covering my mouth, heck, I was so dead.

Sunrise made a strained chortling sound, pausing, before swiping forward at my muzzle, "Want to repeat that, goon," she said her voice cold and controlled again, hopping down and spreading her wings an obvious sign that she was in control, "Let's make this short and simple."

"Just the way I like it." I responded coolly, "Your demands first I suspect your majesty?"

"That Rainwing, so exotic weren't they? Have you seen any more like him, perhaps?" hissed Princess Sunrise in anger, "I'm looking for one to add to my… collection."

Not good, alarm bells were ringing off in my head.

I needed to keep it cool and calm though. I was an adult now, not a moony dragonet. I could do this, "Unique how?"

"A black rainwing." said Princess Sunrise inspecting her long sharpened talons as if it was perfectly obvious, before snapping her head back towards me, inspecting me

I held her gaze steadily an equally unimpressed expression on mine, "Forgive me if I'm pointing out the obvious. But they do change color."

I decided to ignore how that was a lie. Basilisk's life was on the line so I kept myself in the heat of the moment. Calm, like the ocean but ready to strike at any moment.

The annoying princess made that chortling sound again, a gleam in her eyes, it was her territory and I was just as predictable as any other dragon who had this conversation with her, "Want to know how I got these scars?"
