Chapter 7
All three of them woke that morning deciding to leave the town. Zuko was especially happy to leave after what happened yesterday. Lenetta noticed he was in a better mood today and that made her happy. Iroh went to grab food from the market while Zuko and Lenetta packed everything onto the ostrich horse.
Lenetta saw something gleam out of the corner of her eye, she turned to look and noticed Zuko was packing some broadswords. Her eyebrows shot up wondering how in the world he got them. I don't remember Zuko carrying broadswords.
She reached over to tap him on the shoulder. Zuko flinched and she pulled her hand away as if she had been burned. " Sorry sorry I didn't mean to scare you". Lenetta put her hands on her lap as she watched him calm himself. " I-It's fine sorry about the way I reacted." Zuko told her after he calmed down enough.
" Well, I was just wanting to ask where you got your swords cause I've never seen you carry them". Lenetta looked at him expectantly as he seemed to struggle to find a way to answer. I have to tell her the truth. He sighed as he ran a hand through his hair as he looked straight into her eyes. I have to look her right in the eyes when I do this. " You remember that guy that made Uncle dance for money"? Lenetta nodded her head. " Well last night I snuck up on him in an alley and disarmed him then I took his swords." Zuko watched her for signs of anger, mistrust, or hatred, he was shocked to only find understanding in her look. " I understand why you took his swords, you were angry with him, I was angry with him too, but I want you to promise me you won't steal anymore, it's not the right thing to do". Zuko nodded smiling, happy she was not angry at him. " I promise". Lenetta smiled at him as they continued packing their things.
oOoOoOo
Iroh returned a few minutes later with some food that they promptly tied down to the ostrich horse. They rode out of the town through the woods for a few hours as they nibbled on some bread Iroh had bought and they finally found a cave they could rest in.
Zuko tied the ostrich horse to a tree and they unpacked their stuff. Iroh created a small campfire and began to roast corn over the fire. Lenetta and Zuko went off to find some meat to have with it.
They found a wild boar and killed it and started hauling it back to camp. It was pretty heavy so they each carried an end. They were both pretty proud of their catch. " Did you know that the Air Nomads refused to eat meat". Lenetta asked Zuko. " They didn't exactly teach us things like that at school". Zuko told her. " How do you know about that"? Zuko looked over at her. " During my travels I learned a ton about not just bending but all the four nations, including the Air Nomads". Lenetta gets a sad look on her face. " It's so sad that Fire Lord Sozin wiped them out, all because he wanted to wipe out the Avatar". Zuko looked down at his feet, that makes him feel sad too, even angry whenever he thinks about that part of his family history.
" There's a lot of Fire Nation history that was locked away by my great grandfather, in the DragonBone Catacombs, I could've gone down there but I didn't think to". Zuko told her. " I could tell you some of the things I read, if you would like". Lenetta looked at him to see his reaction, he smiled at her and said, " Please".
Lenetta talked about the unknown history of the Fire Nation and he listened intently until they got to the cave. He was happy to know that his whole family tree on his father's side wasn't tainted by evil. As they cooked the wild boar Lenetta continued talking with Iroh even listening intently. " And as you know Ozai married Avatar's granddaughter Ursa…" Lenetta was interrupted by a shocked Zuko's gasp.
" Wait what"? Zuko whispered, his eyes were wide with shock. " My nephew had no idea he was never told this by his mother, father, or even me". Iroh looked sad for keeping this from his nephew. " I'm...related to...the Avatar"? Zuko's emotions went from shocked to angry as he shouted at his uncle, " Why didn't anyone tell me this, why didn't you tell me this"! Iroh looked remorseful and very sad as he looked at his nephew's angry face.
" I'm so sorry nephew, I know I should've told you but I didn't wanna make you angry, it seems I've done just that". Iroh looked away from his nephew and friend. Zuko huffed as he stood up and walked over to the ostrich horse and started untying it from the tree. " Zuko what are you doing"!? Lenetta ran up to him and grabbed his arm. Zuko yanked his arm away from her grip. " Let me go Lenetta, I need to go off and find my own path". He hopped onto the ostrich horse and galloped away leaving a distraught Lenetta crying.
