I laid in bed, waiting for the spectacle to begin. I had asked Nurse Pomfrey to not tell anyone about my pregnancy, which she had agreed to of course. But Dumbledore had to be notified regardless. So here I was waiting for the headmaster to walk in through those doors.
"So I hear congratulations are in order." I looked over to find Dumbledore stroll into the Hospital wing. I was perplexed to find him carrying a little teddy bear and a box of candies. Having probably seen the look on my face, he placed the items on the table located at the end of my bed. "On behalf of professor mc."
"Thank you." Sitting up, I rested my back against the headboard. "To answer your question, yes. It appears I am carrying Black's child."
Dumbledore hummed, walking over to me. "Do you mind?" Not sure what he wanted I gave him a nod. His hand laid flat on my abdomen, a slight chuckle escaping his lips. "My what excitement awaits."
"I suppose you're right." I mumbled.
"I am sorry, but you are just a child! I see no reason to be excited!" Professor Pomfrey exclaimed. "A child having a child. Headmaster the father of that child should be charged for this!"
"Ms. Po-"
"No one is charging anyone." I refrained from rolling my eyes. This woman was another Molly. I can only handle one in a lifetime, two is simply pushing it. "The father of my child is my husband, Sirius Black. And I am not a child as you say, I am 18 and by law, I am an adult. Granted I have my moments where even I doubt that to be true, but I assure I am."
"Ms. Black is the one in control." Dumbledore stated. "I assure you there is no need to in prison anyone."
Pomfrey humph, clearly not liking it, but deciding not to argue. "Very well. But there are a few things we will have to do."
I frowned. "Like what?"
"We will have to monitor all your classes. Avoid anything that can and will harm the child." She stated. "Albus, she will need a specific diet from now on." Dumbledore nodded, clearly not really paying attention toying with the little bow on the teddy. "We will have to do checkups every three weeks or so."
I pretty much spaced out after that. I retreated back into my mind. Into my safe zone. I wasn't as you would say super thrilled at being pregnant. I wanted to at least wait a year before this. I wanted to get a grip on my life, help Harry. Now it wasn't just me right now. I had a life being created inside me. Why the hell wasn't I more careful! How was I able to help my friends and Sirius if I was pregnant! I needed to keep this under wraps. No one can know. At least until the year was over. I can't even begin to imagine what Umbridge would say or do if she found out about this. Still, with all of that aside, I couldn't believe I was carrying Sirius's child.
"Athena?" Pomfrey placed a hand on my shoulder, pulling me back into reality. "Are you feeling well?"
Was I? Was I truly feeling well? "Y-yeah."
"Did you hear everything I said?" She asked. "You will need to come back the day after tomorrow, for a check-up."
Dumbledore hummed, handing me the teddy bear. "I suppose you would like us to contact Sirius Black."
My mind went blank for a moment. This wasn't how I wanted him to find out. I also didn't want anyone else to know before him. "No."
"No?" Both professors frowned.
I nodded, trying not to laugh at the look on their faces. "I would prefer to tell him myself, but the hospital wing doesn't seem to the place for that."
"Understandable." Dumbledore replied.
Pomfrey sighed. "We mustn't allow the rest of the staff to know either." That earned her a look from both of us. "With everything that is occurring I don't think I will be wise."
"Yes, of course." Dumbledore pulled out his wand, aiming it towards me. "Don't be worried Athena." A low pink light cast over my stomach, disappearing just at it appeared. "This will hide any evidence of your pregnancy. It will hide the growth of your stomach but will do nothing to stop the symptoms."
"I can handle the symptoms." I mumbled. "Thank you, professor."
After having finally convinced nurse Pomfrey I was no longer feeling like spilling my guts out, she allowed me to return to my dorms. Professor Dumbledore had given me the rest of the day off from classes, assuring me Hermione would bring me back my classwork. I was given a potion to help with keeping the food down and tiredness. Walking into the dorm, I fell face-first onto my bed. Before I knew it, I was out light a light.
"Athena?"
I growled at the invasive noise interrupting the best sleep I have had in a while.
"Athena."
Growling even louder I grabbed my pillow, placing it over my face. Gripping my blanket, I pulled it over.
"Did you just growl at me?" Hermione tugged at the blanket.
"Keep tugging and I will bite you."
Hermione laughed. "What has you in a sour mood?"
"I still feel a bit nauseous." It wasn't that, but I couldn't tell her. Not now. "I am going to skip the first class."
"Again?" Ginny asked. "Won't this back you up?"
"No, Professor Lupin has agreed to catch me up on them later." I mumbled.
"What did the nurse say?" Hermione asked.
I felt the edge of the bed dip as she took a seat. "I have a stomach virus. Have to go back tomorrow for another check-up."
"Is it contagious?" One of the girls screeched.
I swear some of these girls have bricks for brain. "No. It's a stomach flu in a way. You can't get from me."
"Will you be visiting Sirius today?" Hermione asked.
I shook my head, although I am sure they couldn't see me. "No, I plan on staying in bed pretty much. Besides, nurse Pomfrey prohibited me from traveling. At least for a few days." That reminded me, I needed to send Sirius a letter. "Anything exciting happen yesterday?"
"No. Besides Harry drooling after Cho, nothing much."
I tossed the blanket and pillow off me, staring at Hermione. She held some hostility as she said that sentence. Almost as if it had bothered her. "You don't like Cho?" Hermione shrugged. "Don't think they make a cute couple?"
"Don't really care." She grumbled.
"I don't know, I think they make a cute couple." I added. "She's very pretty. Harry isn't my type, but he is a good-looking lad. Imagine the children."
"They can get married on in a fairy tale wedding for all I bloody care." Hermione snapped. "I don't care." She grabbed her coat and rushed out of the room.
"Oh, this is going to be so much fun."
Time jump:
I made my way down to the dining room, skipping down the hallway. I had surprisingly fallen asleep once more, having nothing else to do. Thinking of only missing one class, I ended up missing more than half the school day. This is going to take a hit on my grades I know that much. Not to mention I wasn't an A student, usually always getting B's. Turning the corner, I slammed into someone causing me to stumble backward. Said someone's hands flung forward, gripping my arm and pulling me into them.
With a huff of relief, I unconsciously laid my hand over my stomach. "Thank you."
"You should be more careful Athena."
Great, of all the bloody students and teachers in this school, why must I always bump into him. "Maybe if you made more noise, I'd be able to hear you coming." That would at least give me a chance to avoid you.
Snape exhaled deeply, clearly biting back the words wanting to escape. Instead, he decided to change the topic. "Dumbledore mentioned you had caught the stomach flu." I nodded. "How are you feeling?"
"Better, nurse Pomfrey is caring for me." I wondered why he was asking. It wasn't like he'd care anyway. "I have to get going, Hermione and the others are waiting for me."
"Athena."
"What?"
He paused for a moment, almost as if rethinking his words. "Nothing, carry on."
Brushing past him, I made my way into the dining room. Spotting Hermione and Harry instantly. Hard not to, when they were flinging their limbs in the air. As I walked down the aisle, I could hear the not-so-quiet whispers.
'Did you hear she's a death eater?'
'It's true she has his mark.'
'She's married to Sirius Black. Who is known to have been a death eater too.'
'I heard she and Ian slept together.'
Clenching my jaw, I walked over to the two girls whispering. I knew my eyes had to change to those of my dogs. Placing a hand on each of their shoulders, I leaned in between them. "I know you lot have nothing better than to talk about others, but I would suggest you don't do it where said person can hear you." Tightening my grip on them, they yelped. "I will tell you this only once. If I hear my name leave your bloody mouth again, I will make sure you can never speak again." Leaning in closer, I whispered into their ears. "I will make it as bloody as I can."
"Athena?"
I snapped my head to the left, catching the look of worry on Harry. "What?"
"Let's go sit and eat." His hand grabbed my wrist, gesturing for me to let go. "Now."
Letting go with a slight growl, I followed him to the table. Suddenly the whispers were no longer about me. 'Better.'
'Isn't it amazing what you can do with a little force?'
'I suppose.'
'You could get so much more if only you joined us.'
"Fuck off."
"What?" Ginny gasped.
I looked up to see all eyes on me, bloody hell. "Sorry Ginny, I was talking to myself."
Hermione leaned in close to me. "Are you alright?"
"Yes." Seriously that question was getting annoying. "I am fine."
But was I really?
It was after classes that we all decided to head back into our training. I mainly stood on the sidelines. Harry was explaining the process of our next spell. It may not seem hard to the eyes, but trying to cast it is where it gets tricky. Since the escape of Alcatraz, our group had gotten bigger. In those Seamus was one of the newly added. As I scanned the group, I noticed Cho was nowhere to be seen. Which is weird, that girl was always around with Harry nowadays.
I turned my attention to Hermione as her patronum appeared. It was a small otter, very fitting for the witch. Neville was still having a little bit of trouble in creating his. Ron got a hyper dog bouncing around, bumping into Neville at some point.
"How about yours Athena?" George asked.
"Come on, show us." Fred jumped in.
I shook my head. "Not feeling it today, maybe tomorrow."
"Don't tell me it's a small one?" Seamus laughed.
I swear boys just don't know when to shut up. "It's bigger than yours I'll tell you that much."
"Prov-"
"Seamus." Harry placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him a look to back off. "She doesn't want to. Leave it alone."
Before I could reply, I noticed the chandler shake. We all stopped at hearing a low banging. We all gathered into the middle of the room, staring a the wall. Something or someone was trying to get it. The wall was blown up causing all of us to duck for cover. As the smoke cleared up, Umbridge and her posey of wannabe guards stood on the other side. Draco appeared at that moment, holding onto Cho.
"Get them." Umbridge snarled.
Seeing the look on Harry, I reached over for his arm. "Whatever you are thinking, don't." I whispered. "We can't fight her. Not now."
Harry huffed, allowing himself to be dragged out. We were all thrown into the dining room. The tables were gone, leaving the room bare. Only chairs and desks remained in their spots. A large throne-like-looking chair was placed on the upper platform. After what felt like hours, Umbridge came strolling into the room with Harry being dragged in behind her. We were ordered to sit down and write.
For hours we sat there writing on a never-ending piece of paper. The more we wrote the more they engraved into our hands. Still, neither one of us was willing to give her the satisfaction of hearing out pain. It felt as if a piece of a needle was constantly scraping over the same wound over and over. Glancing up towards the front, I couldn't hold back the growl. How I wanted to leap from my desk and sink my jaws into her bloody neck. Make her squeal like a pig.
'Then do it.'
'You again.'
'Do it, Athena. Show that witch you are not one to be contained.'
'Unlike you, I don't enjoy the thought of killing someone.'
'Ahh, but you want to.'
I growled. 'No, I don't.'
'I am in your mind, Athena. I can hear your thoughts, I know what you want to do. So just do it!'
'You really are annoying.'
"Athena."
I was startled by Hermione standing over my desk. "Hey, we done?"
"Yeah, let's get out of here before she changes her damn mind."
We all walked out in silence. Neither knowing what to say, not that we even felt like talking. I noticed Cho waiting just by the stairs. Everyone brushed past her, completely ignoring her. Ginny even went as far as to bump her shoulder. Harry ignored her as she called for him. I felt for her really. Cho would have never said anything, had she not been forced or threatened to. The others were just too angry to see it. That night we all slept, with a common thought.
Things just got worse.
The next morning after breakfast I made my way to the hospital wing. The others had decided to take a 'stroll' as Hermione called it. Harry was feeling the worse about all of this. I had agreed to meet up with them after I was done.
"I still don't see the need for this." I mumbled.
"The need for what?" Snape appeared around the corner, stopping me in my tracks. "You are heading to the hospital wing again?"
I nodded. "Medication."
"Stomach?"
"Yup." Taking a step backward, I offered him a small smile. "Excuse me, Professor." Just as I walked past him, his hand reached out for mine. The remainder of our punishment came back with a strong sting, causing me to jerk.
Snape gripped my wrist, bringing it closer to him. "What's this?"
"Headmasters new teaching technique." I growled, pulling my hand out of his, shoving it into my pocket.
"I told her not to-" He stopped, his eyes never leaving my covered hand. "You best get going."
"Y-yeah." Walking away, I glanced back to find him just standing there. His gaze was focused on the ground, before turning to leave in a haste. I frowned, watching him turn the corner. "What the hell is up with him?" Before I could even think what I was doing, I was standing outside of Snape's classroom. Leaning against the side of the wall, I listened in.
"I told you not to harm Athena Black."
"Well, she was a part of that so call army. She needed punishment."
"She is important to someone you do not wish to anger."
"You say that, but you never say who this person is."
"I am just warning you Umbridge. Any more harm comes to her, and I will assure you, you will regret it."
"I am the head of this school now. Behind those doors, I make the rules."
"Don't touch her again."
"As long as she behaves, there will be no need."
Hearing a chair scrape across the floor, I ran towards the end of the hallway. Umbridge strolled out of the room, not once faced by what had just happened. Snape on the other hand appeared to have been talking to someone else.
'She's something else.'
'Nothing, but a bug in our way.'
'Well, bug or not you need to put a stop to her. He wasn't to thrill to hear of what happened to the brat.'
'That brat has a name, Bella.'
'Yeah, yeah. I still can't believe you let her marry a Back! Sirius Black none other.'
'Keep your voice down.'
I didn't recognize the voice. It was a female, but I have never heard of her before. 'Who is that?'
'What are you doing here anyways?'
'I came to relay a message. He said to get ready. Hell is about to break loose.'
"What the hell does that mean?" I whispered. Before I could hear anymore, I had to make a run for it. The voices of a few students echoed through the hallway. Making my way to the hospital wing, I kept going over that woman's words. What could she have meant? What did they have planned?
"You're late." Nurse Pomfrey chastened as soon as I walked in. "You were supposed to be here an hour ago."
"I'm sorry. I got sidetracked." I took a seat on one of the beds, grabbing the cup of potion she handed me. "What is this going to do again?"
"It will stop the nausea." She replied. "It will keep the belly hidden as it grows."
"It smells awful." I groaned catching a whiff of the steam.
Nurse Pomfrey chuckled. "I would take it in one gulp."
Doing as she suggested, I threw my head back swallowing the retched potion. I gagged a few times, feeling as if the drink would spill back out. "Ugh! That's disgusting."
"A small nap will help you with that." She pushed me back into the bed, tucking the covers over me. "By the time you wake up, it should be lunch."
"Thank you." Turning to my side, I didn't see the look of worry on the nurse's face.
Time jump:
Before we knew it, it was O.W.L examine day. We all sat at the desks, just like we had before. I was just about to give up. Nothing and I mean nothing on this test, was taught to us. What the hell were we supposed to do?! Guess! Glancing over at Hermione, I stiffed a laugh. She looked ever worse than me. Ron just looked lost. Yet, Harry wasn't looking at his test. His eyes were locked on Umbridge. It's been a while since I have seen such a hateful look on him.
A low bang has us turning towards the back. It sounded as if a small bomb had gone off. Umbridge scurried down the hallway, pushing the large doors open. A small enchanted firecracker flew into the room, going off. A few moments later Fred and George flew into the room setting crackers off. Huddling up with Harry and the others, we watched the show go on. There wasn't much we could do, but enjoy this one moment. Fred tossed out a dragon cracker, aimed to chase Umbridge down the corridor. Umbridge whimpered as the dragon closed down on her. The explosion from the dragon, caused all the rules on the wall to come tumbling down. There was going to be hell to pay after this, but it was worth it. We all followed Fred and George outside, cheering and clapping.
"Athena!"
Hearing Hermione yell my name, had me scanning the crowd for her. "Hermione!" Looking around, I couldn't find her. "Hermione!"
"Athena!"
"Hermione!" Pushing through the sea of students, I found her kneeled beside Harry. "What's wrong?!" Harry had a look of pure fear and anger. "Harry?!"
"Sirius."
"What?" Helping him up, he took off running. "Harry, what about Sirius?!"
"He's been taken!" The boy kept running into the school. "He's in danger."
I glanced down at my ring, not feeling anything. No pain, nothing. It felt as it always did. "Harry, I am not feeling anything. Nothing bad anyways." The damn kid ignored me, rushing up the stairs. "Harry!"
"Athena, Voldemort has him!" Harry yelled.
"Are you sure?" Hermione asked.
Harry growled. "I saw it. It's just like with Mr. Wesley. It's the same door I've been dreaming about for a month. I couldn't remember where I'd seen it before. Sirius said Voldemort was after something. Something he didn't have the last time, in the department of mysteries."
"Harry, please, just listen." Hermione snapped, grabbing ahold of his arm. "What if Voldemort meant for you to see this? What is he's only hurting Sirius, because he's trying to get to you?"
"What if he is?" Harry said it as if it was the most obvious question. "I'm supposed to just let him die? Hermione, he's the only family I've got left."
"Athena." Hermione glanced at me, almost begging me to stop him.
"I-" I glanced at Harry then at my ring. Something was not right here. The ring should be burning me right now. "We need to at least make sure he is safe."
"Athena?"
"If Sirius is in being harmed I will do anything and everything to save him. I love that man and I don't plan on losing him anytime soon." Running my thumb over the ring, I locked eyes with Harry. "He's family. Our family."
"What do we do?" Ron asked.
Harry exhaled a sigh of relief. "We'll have to use the floo network."
"But Umbridge has the chimneys under surveillance." Hermione repeated.
We broke into Umbridge's office, but needless to say, she was onto us. She took Harry and pushed him into one of the chairs. The rest of us were being held a wand point by her wannabe goons. Malfoy walked in at that moment with Neville.
"You were going to Dumbledore, weren't you?" She asked.
"No."
"Liar." Without any hesitation, she slapped him across the face.
"Keep your bitchy claws off him!" I growled, fighting to get the two boys off me. "The second I get loose I am going to tear your throat out!'
"Threatening the headmistress?" Umbridge hummed. "That calls for a severe punishment."
"It wasn't a threat."
"Oh?"
"It was a promise."
Umbridge glared, waving her wand towards me. "You Insolent half-bre"
"You sent for me, headmistress?" We all turned to find Snape at the doorway.
"Snape, yes." She turned to face him. "The time has come for answers, whether he wants to give them to me or not. Have you brought the veritaserum?"
Snape's eyes fell on me, darkening for a split second. "I'm afraid you've used up all my stores, interrogating students. The last of it on Miss Chang. Unless you wish to poison him-and I assure you, I would have the greatest sympathy if you did. I cannot help you."
"You must do something!" Umbridge yelled.
Snape raised a finger towards me. "I will, but first Athena Black will be coming with me." One look from Snape and Umbridge stepped back. "Come."
I refused to move, only to have the kid behind me push me forward. "Touch me again and I will snap your neck."
"Athena, now."
"I-"
"Go." Hermione whispered. "Sirius."
Clenching my jaw, I walked up to him. Snape gripped my arm, pushing me through the door, only to be stopped.
"He's got Padfoot." Harry gave in, pleading what he thought to be his last chance. "He's got Padfoot at the place where it's hidden."
"Padfoot? What is Padfoot? Where 'what' is hidden? What is he talking about, Snape?" Umbridge demanded.
Snape turned to face them, shrugging after a moment. "No idea."
Umbridge sighed. "Very well. You have left me no choice, Potter. As this is an issue of ministry security...you leave me with...no alternative. The cruciatus curse ought to loosen your tongue."
"Are you insane!" I rushed forward, Snape holding me back. "That's illegal!"
"Why are you two still here?" She scoffed.
Snape pulled me out of the room, dragging me down the corridor. "Stop struggling."
"Let go of me!" I needed to get back to Harry. I needed to save him, before saving Sirius. I needed to help them. "Let go!"
"That's enough Athena!" Snape yanked at my arm, being me around to stand before him. "You need to trust me for once."
"Trust you?!" I laughed. "My brother is being tortured by some crazed bitch! One you just turned your back to and want me to trust you! My husband might be dying right now!"
"There is nothing you can do!" Snape yelled back. "When it comes to you and others, I will always pick you."
"I am not like you!" I struggled to get his grip off me, but damn he was strong. "I will give my life for them! I have to try and save them. I have to save him." Using my strength alone was not going to work. I needed a plan. Think Athena. Think! If I couldn't escape like this, I simply needed to change it up. Whispering the chant under my breath, I closed my eyes. Within seconds I felt myself fall to the ground as Snape cursed. Staggering to my feet, I stood on all four. Before Snape had a chance to grab ahold of me, I bolted away from him. I just needed to get away, I needed a way of going home. I needed...
Darkness.
