Shinichi Asagi. He was probably known for exactly three things.

One: His agility and tendency to snipe while moving.

Two: His cheerful and playful personality.

Three: His love of cats.

In truth, he was probably one of the more highly skilled recruits, and tests showed he had a high aptitude. But his own non-serious nature tends to not always have these traits be prominent, so despite his skill he has never really made use of his full potential. He is a very easygoing person after all.

And as for what he was doing right now, it was a solo rank wars match with Yuba. It was the final round, with Shinichi having six and Yuba having three matches won. At the moment, Shinichi was in a backpedal, hopping backwards as he continued to fire at Yuba who was charging in. Yuba continued to block with pinpoint shots, but a good chunk of his torso was missing now. No vital spots, but he was leaking trion without a doubt.

"Yuba-chan is skilled as always!" Shinichi announced, as he hopped up a building while continuing to fire. He got Yuba in one arm, but Yuba caught up and unloaded with the other. Shinichi was only barely able to dodge, losing his left leg and a part of his torso, although that was a bit incorrect to say dodge as he was already moving in the first place. Shinichi fired another shot and finally got Yuba in a vital spot, resulting in a defeat for Yuba.

At this point, they were both returned to their mats in the rooms.

"Ah man, that was close. As expected, its hard to dodge Yuba-chan's revolvers".

Shinichi said that as Yuba came around the corner.

"You say that, but most people can't and you managed to get me quite a few times, Shinichi-kun".

"Only because I have better aim and am good at running. If we were to always start in close quarters, you would probably win far more".

"No, it was a good match. And it was good practice, you seem to be getting the hang of moving around in a Trion body".

"And you seem to have gotten a lot better at predicting and blocking shots. I bet you could even shield against hidden planted bullets now with ease".

"Hmmf".

Shinichi then proceeded to start to leave, full of energy as usual.

"Well, I better get going! I have another appointment now! Tell Kan-chan, Obi-kun, Nono-kun and Ton-chan that I said hi!"

"Tell them yourself and make sure you visit" Yuba said in his typical Yuba fashion, as Shinichi ran off.

As for where Shinichi was running off to, it was the area of the base where Engineers gathered to create and test out various possibilities with Trion, and worked on a large assortment of things. And as for who he had an appointment with…

"Kinu-chan!"

"Ah, Asagi-kun, you are finally here" Kinuta replied.

"Oh come on, I told you that you could call me Shinichi. Shi-chan is fine even".

"Enough of that. Anyways, I have the requested product. Its an unusual request for a B-Rank, even a new one, but we needed someone to test this out anyways. If we ever want to properly have Trion Soldiers to work for us in the field, and work alongside our teams, we need to make sure the public wont be scared off by them after all".

At those words, a small and lovable looking cat walked into the room and looked at Shinichi. Shinichi immediately knelt down with open arms, and the cat jumped into them and licked his face as he closed his arms and held it softly.

"…just remember that thing is actually a Trion Soldier and a weapon. I wanted to make it more practical, but then Netsuki complained that we would get obliterated by the press if I did that".

"This form is perfect. And it feels right, and smells right, and its showing true love and affection like a proper cat would".

"Make sure you properly submit reports and tell us what is going on with it, okay!"

"Rodger that! I will be responsible and take care of it!"

"That's not what I…oh, nevermind that. Just make sure you get those reports in!"

"Okay!"

And so, just like that, Shinichi acquired a cat that he could have around the base and in the Forbidden Zone! As he was leaving, heading through the maze of hallways within the base, he had become totally engrossed with his new cat.

"Oh, sorry! Kitty, are you okay? Ah, and are you okay too?"

The cat just meowed, while the other guy that Shinichi had knocked into seemed a bit dazed but was recovering.

"Ah…you look familiar…"

The border agent seemed to be a bit worried for a moment, but then…

"Ah, now I remember! You are the one who just got an operator and formed a team, right? What was your name? Ah! Sei-chan!"

"…that's where you remembered me from?"

"Yep. Why, was there something else?"

At those words, Seiji Meisho couldn't help but laugh a little bit at such a comment. He stood up, while Shinichi was still on his knees holding his cat.

"Ah yes, that is right. My name is Seiji Meisho, of Meisho Squad. Well, if you can count a single person and an operator as a squad that is".

"I heard there was actually another squad with just one agent and an operator, so I think its fine Sei-chan!"

"Ah…by the way, since you know my name and all, what is your name?"

"Shinichi Asagi! But you can call me Shi-chan for short!"

Seiji extended a hand to help him up, and Shinichi gladly accepted it. He was pulled back up to his feet, as they heard a bit of commotion and clatter in the background.

"Quickly, hide!"

Seiji quickly pulled Shinichi into a small space, out of view as what appeared to be about a dozen or two dozen civilians ran past.

"Civilians in the base?"

"Netsuki's idea to promote border, made a whole tour thing for today. But of course, a number of them just infiltrated to look for me".

"Oh! So you are famous!"

"…yes. Does that matter?"

"Eh, I just thought it was cool was all".

"You're a weird kid, aren't you?"

"Pretty much".

At those words, the cat licked Shinichi's face, and Shinichi ended up rubbing noses with it as it meowed playfully.

"…I wasn't aware cats were allowed on base".

"Ah, this one is special. I got it from the engineering team".

Seiji had so many questions as he gazed at Shinichi with a perplexed look, but seemed to decide not to pry into the matter further.

"So, Shinichi, have you found a team yet?" Seiji asked as he watched the cat crawl to the top of Shinichi's head and lay down there, meowing innocently.

"Not yet. Not sure why, I am always super friendly with them".

You probably overdose them with friendship.

Meisho thought such a thing as he looked over at Shinichi.

"So, want to join my team?"

"Sure!"

And so, in what might have been a day full of oddities, what might be one of the most simple and casual team formations in Border history was done on that day.
